Heidi Hansen was in the middle of a shift when she heard her daughter had been brought in, barely alive. They said her Soulmate had found her. He had done CPR that had kept her alive long enough to reach the hospital where they could tend to her. She burst into the room where Evalynn was being kept, letting out a sob when she saw all the tubes and wires hooked up to the teenager.

"Oh, baby," she gasped, heading closer to the bed.

She pushed a curl out of her daughter's face, a tear sliding down her own as she did so.

"Mrs. Hansen?"

Heidi looked over, seeing a young boy not much older than Evalynn sitting in one of the plastic chairs. He had shoulder length hair, deep chocolate eyes, and wore all black.

"M-my name is Connor Murphy. I'm, um, the one who found her…"

"You're her Soulmate?"

"T-they told you?"

Heidi nodded, studying Connor's worried expression.

"They said her Soulmate had found her and called it in, yes."

Connor swallowed, biting his lip.

"They, um, said she's comatose. I-if I had been just a few minutes later…" Connor trailed off, shaking his head.

"H-how did this happen? W-why would she…"

She watched him shift uncomfortably.

"I-I don't know… I mean, s-she was getting better, so I… I don't know."

"Mom?"

Heidi turned, seeing Evan standing in the doorway, Jared at his shoulder.

"Hey, sweetie. I, um, I have to get back to work. I'll try to be back as soon as I can."

Evan nodded solemnly, stepping aside to let his mother pass. As she vanished down the hall, he looked further into the room, eyes falling on the intubated form of his twin sister.

"What are you doing here?" Jared asked.

Evan looked at him, then turned to follow his gaze, eyes landing on Connor.

"I, uh, I called her in," Connor shifted uncomfortably, looking at his feet.

"No. No, that can't be right. They said her Soulmate found her," Evan shook his head.

Connor bit his lip, raising his gaze to meet Evan's. His face was almost guilty looking, as if he had committed some terrible crime. Jared let out a barking laugh of disbelief.

"You're her Soulmate? No wonder she tried to off herself."

Connor's face contorted in rage and Evan rounded on his Soulmate, a fire in his blue eyes.

"Stop it, Jared."

"I'm just saying. I'd try to kill myself, too, if I found out Connor Murphy was my Soulmate."

"But he's not your Soulmate. You're mine, and that's my sister you're talking about so either shut up or get out."

"But, Evan-"

"Jared," Evan growled, glaring.

Jared stared back at his Soulmate, mouth agape in surprise before turning on his heel and heading back down the hall. Evan watched him go before turning back to face Connor, who was staring at him with a similarly surprised expression.

"Y-you didn't have to…"

"You're my sister's Soulmate. Yes I did."
