It had been two weeks since Evalynn had fallen from the tree in the park. Connor had spent most of that time sitting next to Evan by her bed. He had bonded a bit with his Soulmate's twin during that time. When he found out that Connor was avoiding his family's calls and texts, Evan had offered to talk to them for him. So he had handed the phone to Evan, listening in awe to the conversation that followed.

"Hello, Mrs. Murphy? My name is Evan Hansen."

Evan listened for a moment, nodding to himself.

"No, Connor's fine. He's with me."

Another moment and then…

"My sister's in a coma and Connor's a good friend of mine. He's been sitting in the hospital with me while we wait for her to wake up."

He smiled, glancing over at Connor and winking.

"Of course. Thank you for the concern. Good bye now."

Evan handed him the phone after hanging up.

"You can stay as long as you want to," he informed him.

"You didn't mention me being her Soulmate."

"No… I didn't know if you'd told them yet and I figured that's not how you wanted them to find out if you hadn't."

"T-thanks."

Connor tore his gaze from Evan to the other Hansen laying in the bed. Everything around him was still dull, but it hadn't quite gotten to the point where it was back to black and white yet. He figured as long as the colors were still somewhat present, it was a good sign.

"Hey, boys. Any change?" Heidi asked, entering the room.

For once, she wasn't in her scrubs. The hospital had let her have some time off so she could be with her daughter. She headed over to sit on the other side of Evan from Connor as both boys shook their heads. Just then, Connor's phone buzzed and Zoe's name flashed across the screen. Excusing himself, he stepped into the hall to answer.

"Hello?"

"That lie Evan Hansen fed Mom might have worked on her, but I'm not buying it for a second. Where are you and what are you up to, Connor?"

Connor sighed, rolling his eyes.

"I'm at the hospital sitting with Evan and his mom beside Evalynn's bed while we wait for her to wake up from a coma."

"I told you, that lie worked on Mom, but it doesn't with me. Tell me the truth," Zoe demanded.

"I am telling the truth, Zoe. Evalynn Hansen tried to commit suicide and now she's in a coma and I'm sitting with her mom and brother while we wait for her to wake up."

There was silence from the other end for a moment. While he waited for a response from his sister, he noticed the plant next to him get a little brighter green.

"Zoe, I have to go," Connor said, hanging up.

Rushing back into Evalynn's room, he stared at his Soulmate in the bed. Her hair was more yellow than before and her lips around the tube in her mouth seemed a little more rosy.

"Evalynn?" he asked softly.

Evan and Heidi both stared at him curiously, but Connor only had eyes for his Soulmate. Reaching out, he took her hand in his, praying that she would respond in some way. However, moments later, the colors dulled once more.

"No. No, Lynn, come on. Come back to me, please," Connor pleaded, squeezing her fingers.

Evalynn remained motionless on the bed. The only sounds were the beeping of the heart monitor, the pssh-clunk of the oxygen machine that was helping her breathe, and the soft gasping sobs of her Soulmate as the colors remained dull.
