Hi everyone, I'm back with a new story, that will be ten chapters. I'd like to thank jrobins33 for the idea of this story.
Take Me Out to the Ball Game
"Today we are lucky enough to have the star center fielder from our Giants, Brett Pierce." the radio host for the Giants says.
"Hello John, it's good to talk to you again." Brett says flashing John a megawatt smile.
"I'm sure it is. Tonight, you are playing the Yankees. I have one question." John says.
"And what is that?" Brett asks playing along.
"Are we going to win?" John asks.
"Yes, we are. We have Carlos pitching tonight and he's not likely to lose. Plus, our hitting has been on fire the last three games." Brett tells John.
"Well good luck tonight."
Once off the air, Brett and John chat a bit before Brett has to head to the clubhouse.
"Good luck tonight," John says again.
At the age of twenty-four, Brett is one of the young stars in the MBL. He was drafted right out of high school by the San Francisco Giants. He spent his first four years playing in the minor league for the Sacramento River Cats, the triple A affiliate of the Giants. He was called up during spring training at the start of his fifth season. He took the starting center field job after the first game and has yet to give it back. He's currently in his third season and is hitting an average of .295 and has hit fifty homers over his first two and change years.
"Hey man," Jack, Brett's best friend on the team says.
"Hey," Brett says nodding.
"Heard the interview." Jake says smirking.
"Shut up," Brett says shoving him.
The continue to get ready to go warm up. Meanwhile a local singer arrives to warm up and get a walk through of what's going to happen when she sings the national anthem.
"Thank you for agreeing to do this on short notice." the club worker says leading her through the tunnel.
"No problem, I'm just honored to get the chance." Santana Lopez tells the woman.
Santana Lopez is a semi struggling singer. She performs mostly in bars and clubs and is still waiting for her big break. When she got the call to sing the national anthem for this game yesterday, she jumped at the chance. This game is going to be nationally televised and being that it's against the Yankees the game is sold out. It's taken some time but Santana is slowly starting to make a name for herself and this is another step towards her goal.
"Okay so we're going to have you do a sound check and you're welcome to warm up here." the club worker tells Santana.
After clearing the sound check, Santana starts warming up her vocal cords. She's so focused on warming up that she doesn't notice the team come out to warm up themselves.
Brett is one of the last ones out of the club house. He stops dead in his tracks when he sees a very beautiful Latina off to the side. He's never seen anyone as beautiful as her. All he wants to do is walk over to her and kiss her.
"Dude," Jake says slapping Brett on the back.
Brett shakes his head, following Jack, looking back a few times at her before focusing on warming up for the game.
When Santana finishes warming up, she looks up and sees that all the players are warming up. One catches her eye. A tall blonde guy who's in the outfield. There's something about him that intrigues her. She wants to get to know him.
"We're heading in now to wait." the club employee tells Santana.
She nods and follows, but not before glancing back at the blonde.
"Let's see how good the singer is this time." Jake says as they line up for the national anthem.
"I don't get why you care so much." Brett says shaking his head.
Santana steps out ready to sing as soon as they announce her. She blocks everything out.
"Singing the national anthem tonight is a upcoming singer Santana Lopez." the announcer says.
Santana's hands shake a little as she steps out and starts singing.
'O say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the at the twilight's last gleaming
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free'
Santana holds the last note for a long time and when she finally finishes some of the audience clap and cheer.
'And the home of the brave'
When she finishes the last note the whole stadium claps. Santana bows before heading off the field.
"Wow," Brett whispers.
He was completely memorized by her singing. He can't take his eyes off of her as she leaves.
"Dude come on; we have to get out there." Jake says lightly shoving Brett.
That brings Brett out of his haze. He grabs his glove and jogs out onto the field. He's not completely focused the game putting all thoughts of the hot Latina out of his head for now.
By the time Santana makes it to the box that she was given, the Giants are up to bat.
"Who is that?" she asks the worker who is with her.
"That is our lead off hitter and center fielder, Brett Pierce." the worker tells her. "He's our best player and one of the best players in the league."
Santana nods, very intrigued by him. She's not a huge fan of sports and honestly wasn't planning on staying for the whole game, but now she is. She wants to watch the blonde play.
"Would it be possible to meet some of the players after the game." Santana asks.
"I'm sure we can make that possible." the worker says.
Brett plays really well, making two amazing catches and going three for four with a single and two doubles.
"Come on, I just got word that a few of the players would like to meet you." the workers tells her.
"Great," Santana excited to see if Brett is one of the players.
"We'll be in the clubhouse with reporters so please no pictures." the worker tells her. "If the players offer that's okay."
"Got it," Santana says nodding.
They head down to the clubhouse.
Inside the clubhouse, Brett is impatiently waiting for Santana to arrive. He had asked to have her brought in but then a few other guys inquired about her. He wants to be the first one to talk to her. The moment Santana is shown into the clubhouse, Brett is up and greeting her.
"Hi," Brett says standing they're like an eager puppy.
"Hello," Santana says in what she hopes is a cool, sexy voice.
"You were really good." Brett says biting his lip.
"I wasn't that good." Santana says not wanting to and concealed.
"Trust me you are. I hear that song almost everyday during the summer." Brett tells her.
Santana blushes at this. "You played really well."
"I wanted to impress someone." Brett says staring directly at her.
"Did it work?" Santana asks a glint in her eye.
"I don't know, you tell me." Brett says smirking.
"It did," Santana says. "I have to get going." she says and Brett's smile faulters. "But I'd love to exchange numbers and maybe we can keep in touch." she suggests.
"I'd love that."
