AN: I'm back!

The Hansens no longer sat at Evalynn's side constantly like those first few weeks. However Connor Murphy refused to give up on his Soulmate. It had been three months and the doctors were saying it might be time to pull the plug. With every passing day, it seemed more and more like Evalynn wouldn't be waking up. The only reason that they hadn't was because of Connor. He insisted that since he could still see the colors, she would wake up.

The second that the colors dimmed more, that was when he would give them permission to give up on her, and not a moment before. So the Soulmate remained vigilant by her side, talking to her, reading her books and telling her all the new tree facts he had learned while she slept.

"Connor?"

Connor snapped awake, lifting his head off the edge of the bed to stare up at Heidi Hansen. She was in her scrubs and had tears in her eyes.

"Connor, it's time."

"What? No. No, you can't."

"She's not going to wake up, sweetie."

"Yes, she is. The colors-"

"The colors are still dull, Connor. They haven't stopped being dull for months. It's time you just accepted the fact that she's gone, and she's not waking up."

"No. No. You're wrong."

Connor shook his head as Heidi squeezed his shoulder sympathetically.

"Connor-"

Heidi was cut off as they heard a gasp, and then some choking come from the bed. Turning, they saw Evalynn, eyes open, as she choked on the tube in her mouth.

"Evalynn!"

Heidi pushed the emergency button beside Evalynn's bed, summoning the doctors and nurses to the room. She helped her daughter remove the tube in her mouth so she was no longer choking as the room became crowded quickly. Connor and Heidi were pushed out of the room while the doctors worked on checking on Evalynn. Now that Connor wasn't in the dark room, he noticed the slightly brighter colors around him that he hadn't while he argued with Mrs. Hansen.

Heidi pulled out her phone, dialing Evan to let him know. Once it was determined that Evalynn was healthy and totally responsive, they were allowed back into the room.

"Connor? Mom?"

"Hey, sweetie," Heidi smiled, pressing her lips to her daughter's forehead.

"Hi, Lynn."

"W-where's Evan?"

"At Jared's house. I just called him to let him know you're awake," Heidi informed her.

Evalynn swallowed, nodding her head. She kept her gaze in her lap, refusing to meet the looks from either her mother or her Soulmate.

"H-how long?"

"It's been three months," Connor said, unable to keep the bite out of his voice. "Why'd you do it, Lynn?"

Evalynn shook her head, eyes scrunched tight against an onslaught of tears that threatened to escape. All that she could think about was how it hadn't worked. She had screwed up a second time. She had failed again. And the bitterness in Connor's voice as he asked her about it stung. It made her wish she hadn't failed. But she couldn't say any of that. Not while her mother was in the room.

"Evalynn?" Heidi's voice was gentler than her Soulmate's.

She opened her eyes, staring up at her mom.

"What is it, honey?"

"I-I can't…" Evalynn trailed off, fighting against more tears.

"Can't what?" Connor glared.

"C-can't… tell you," Evalynn whispered.

"Why not?"

"Connor, be gentle. She just woke up," Heidi reprimanded him.

"You weren't there! You didn't see her laying underneath that tree three months ago! You didn't see the colors dim before your eyes! I want to know why the hell she would do something like that!"

Evalynn bit down on her lip to contain the sobs that threatened to escape as she heard her Connor yell.

"Wow, what happened to the Connor that's been sitting worried beside her bed the past few months?"

Connor spun around as they all looked at the newcomer. Evan was glaring at the Murphy in front of him, arms crossed over his chest. Connor scoffed, rolling his eyes.

"I just want to know-"

"Oh, I'm aware. I'm pretty sure everyone on this floor is aware. This just doesn't fit with the Connor we've seen the last few months," Evan spat bitterly. "Where's the concerned Connor who didn't want us to pull the plug on her the last few weeks?"

"P-pull the plug? Y-you guys were g-giving up on me?"

The boys both turned guiltily to look at the girl in the bed who was staring from them to her mother and back, eyes wide.

"Lynn," Evan started, but Connor spoke over him.

"Yeah, they were. But-"

"So it's your fault."

"W-what?"

Forgetting about her mother and twin, Evalynn glared at her Soulmate, suddenly very angry.

"It's your fault I didn't succeed!"
