Stubbornness

It was a cool, windy fall day in the cul-de-sac of Peach Creek.

Summer has well ended and the students of Peach Creek High were getting ready for another day of test and books.

Most of the kids had already gotten up and were getting ready for another day of school, while others were still clinging to their bed sheets, wants to avoid school for a while longer.

"EDWARD SKIPPER MCGEE! GET UP RIGHT NOW!..."A loud voice shouted.

One of those kids is a 16, almost 17 year old boy named Edward Skipper McGee, or Eddy, as he is known by his friends, who had abruptly been forced awake by his very irritated mother, who had marched into his room and yelled at him to wake up and get ready for school

Again!

"Mom, what's with all the noise?..."Eddy complained as he was still drowsy.

"Eddy, you overslept again!..."His mother said in annoyance.

"Oh, come on...it's only..."Eddy stopped when he saw exactly WHAT time it is.

"7:10?!..."Eddy yelled at the sight of the time.

"Exactly! I tried to tell you to get up three times already, but each time, you said that you were getting ready..."His mother said.

"And you believed me?..."Eddy questioned only to see the un-amused look on his mom's face.

She then handed him a towel and pointed to the bathroom across the hall.

"You have exactly 20 minutes to get ready and have breakfast before the school bus comes..."His mother nagged.

Eddy would have complained but his mother would have none of it as she kept pointing to the direction out of the room, making it obvious what she wants.

Eddy grumbled as he begrudgingly did as he was told and rushed to get ready for school.

Just like every, single morning.

Later

After a short shower and an even shorter breakfast, Eddy ran as fast as he could to the local bus stop.

He saw his friends were already waiting there for him.

Eddward Marion Smith and Edwin Horace Jackson, or Edd and Ed as they are known by all. Since neither of them could afford a car of their own yet and with the exception of Edd, their parents don't trust them with theirs, they had to rely on the bus.

Anyway, they saw him and smiled.

"Hi Eddy!..."Ed said happily.

"Good morning Eddy, fashionably late as usual..."Edd said with a knowing look.

Eddy grumbled under his breath as he rolled his eyes. He felt a breeze and shivered.

"Darn it, I hate it when it gets cold like this..."Eddy said as he rubbed his hands together.

Fall was already cold and it was getting colder and colder each day.

"Now Eddy, Fall is a time to admire nature's beauty and change..."Edd said as he pointed to a leaf that was turning colors.

"Like underpants?..."Ed asked in a clueless way.

"Uh...not quite, Ed..."Double D said while Eddy rolled his eyes.

Just then, the bus arrived and the Ed's boarded on it.

Last year, they all sat close by but this year...things were a little different with the seating arrangement and not because of the school.

No, there was something EVEN WORSE that caused such a change.

"Hiya, Big Ed~..."A certain blonde waved two rows back.

"Hi there, Oven-mitt~..."A blue haired girl said as she blew kisses.

They are May and Marie Kanker, two of the three girls who had been pains in their necks since they were 12 years old, along with their older sister who Eddy does NOT want to mention.

Unfortunately, there was a huge change during the Summer and both Ed and Edd had lost their minds and began dating them!

Now, every time these two girls show up, his friends turn into lovesick morons and totally forget about him.

Like right now.

"Marie, my darling. You look as radiant as ever~..."Double D said as he took a seat next to her.

"You aren't hard on the eyes yourself, Handsome..."Marie said in a flirtatious way.

Meanwhile, two rows behind them, Ed went to May, looking at her like a lovesick puppy.

"Hi Ed..."May said.

"Hi May..."Ed said as he took a seat next to her.

"You look pretty today..."He said in a dopey way.

"Aw, you're so sweet~..."May said as she kissed him on the cheek, and unlike when he was a kid, Ed enjoyed it.

All the while, Eddy gritted his teeth and looked annoyed.

"Every...single...morning..."He muttered as he knew that he can't sit with his pals anymore.

Now, he had to deal with the dilemma of trying to find a spot on the bus to sit on. Thankfully, since the incident at Mondo-A-Gogo a few years back, Eddy is no longer a pariah at school and actually made friends with the kids he used to try and rip off.

However, he saw that the bus was practically crowded now.

Jimmy and Sarah were sitting together and talking about fashion, Rolf and Kevin were sitting together and talking about some sport and Johnny...well, Eddy and Johnny haven't exactly had the best relationship since Mondo-A-Gogo to put it lightly and he rather not sit next to him.

The rest of the rows were preoccupied by older or younger fellow students but Eddy managed to find a spot in the back and sat there. Then he saw another person board the bus.

Eddy's grin picked up and a blush formed on his face when he saw that it was Nazz.

She's Kevin's on-again, off-again girlfriend and the most beautiful girl at their school...as well as the future Mrs. Eddy McGee, if he has anything to say about it.

"Hubba hubba!..."Eddy said upon seeing her.

He thought she was cute when they were pre-teens, after she lost all that chubbiness but now, she is HOT!

She also looked like she was looking for a place to sit. Eddy grinned as he saw an opportunity. Sure, he and Kevin got along better now, but he and Nazz are on break right now and that means that she is available.

"Time to make my move..."Eddy thought with an eager grin.

"Is this seat taken?..."A feminine voice said and Eddy turned around, only to his dismay to see that it is the wrong female.

It is a tall girl with curly red hair, freckles and an opportunistic smile on her face. It is Lee Kanker, May and Marie's older sister and the biggest thorn in his side.

"Yes, it is!..."Eddy barked.

"Yeah, by me..."Lee said as she quickly sat in it.

"Hey!..."Eddy yelled.

He then saw to his horror, that Nazz sat down next to some sophomore friend of hers and he lost his chance and even worse, the bus started moving and they were off to school.

He is stuck sitting next to LEE KANKER!

"And I thought this morning couldn't any worse..."Eddy complained.

"Don't worry about it, Dream Boat. I'm here..."Lee said as she scooted closer to him.

Eddy scooted back.

"That's what I mean!..."Eddy barked.

"You know you love me, Eddy..."Lee said in a coy way while the Ed-boy scoffed.

"As if..."Eddy said.

Thankfully, Eddy knew that Lee wouldn't try any funny business on the bus, since the bus driver was close by and Lee and her sisters always seem to pretend to behave when there are adults around and they can't get away with their usual obnoxious behaviour.

But once they are gone, all bets are off.

"Come on, Eddy. When are you going to admit that you love me?..."Lee said in a playful tone as she placed her hand on his.

Eddy angrily pulled it back.

"That will happen the day Lumpy grows a brain!..."Eddy yelled while Lee merely smirked.

"Well, I say he's getting smarter, since he finally accepted that May is the one for him..."Lee said and Eddy growled as he looked away from her.

"Just because he got poisoned by your sister, doesn't mean I will be!..."Eddy said.

Lee rolled her eyes, or he presumed... it was hard to tell given her bangs were covering her eyes, but she just sent him a playful look again.

"It's not poison. It's call love, Sugar..."Lee said while Eddy sent her another glare.

Ever since they met, she has been after him and when high school started, she has tried to get him to give her a chance but Eddy refuses each time. It got worse when his friends began dating her sisters and Lee got even more persistent but Eddy is NOT going to make the mistake his friends are making.

He will NEVER submit to a Kanker.

Sure, maybe to a stranger, Lee doesn't look so bad. She has certainly grown up and is no longer that gangly, gross-looking girl who used to chase him all over the culd-de-sac.

She was taller now, still taller than him (which he does not enjoy). She has grown out her hair and it reaches past her shoulders, which she often ties in a pony tail. She also started wearing more make up and she still seems fond of wearing polka bots but she now sports a jean skirts and boots. She still has the bangs covering her eyes and she still has that stubborn look on her face.

Sure, some guy who doesn't know her might say that she is average at best and maybe has the potential to be cute if she tries but Eddy is no stranger. He knows who and what Lee is and he wants nothing to do with her.

Lee, however, was very, VERY stubborn and kept persisting.

"Come on Eddy, go out with me today. We can catch a movie and...do other stuff~..."Lee said in a flirtatious way.

"Not happening!..."Eddy said stubbornly as he looked away.

Lee continued, though.

"Oh, come on Eddy. I know if you give it a chance, you'll see that you can't resist me..."Lee said as she leaned closer and the boy growled.

"IN YOUR DREAMS!..."Eddy yelled loudly, attracting attention from the other people on the bus.

"QUIET BACK THERE!..."The bus driver yelled.

Eddy was forced to shut up and ignored the amused look on Lee's face. Thankfully by then, the bus stopped and they arrived to Peach Creek High and everyone rushed out of the bus to get to class.

"Looks like we gotta take a rein-check, Dream boat..."Lee said as she looked like she was about to leave, much to the Ed-boy's relief.

Except...when Eddy lowered his guard, she planted a kiss on his right cheek, leaving it stained with her red lipstick.

"Ew! Kanker!..."Eddy yelled as he angrily wiped his cheek.

Lee giggled and blew him another kiss, before walking off the bus. She was practically skipping as she entered the school to go join her sisters.

Eddy growled as he pulled out a handkerchief and wiped off her lipstick before walking off the bus. His so-called pals had already went inside the school with their girlfriends and Nazz had already gotten off and inside before he did.

"I can't believe this!..."He growled in frustration.

He woke up late, only ate some half burned toast and jam for breakfast and had to run to the bus stop. Not only that but his friends had abandon him again, he missed the chance to sit next to the girl of his dreams and even worse, he had to sit next to that Kanker and got her germs on his cheek again.

What rotten luck!

"Lousy Kanker!..."He muttered as he begrudgingly went inside the school, convinced that things can't get any worse than they already have.

Unknown to him, the bus driver saw Lee kiss and Eddy's attitude. He merely chuckled as he went to go park the bus.

"Teenagers, they can be so stubborn..."He said to himself as he recalled his own youth before he went back to his job.
