Scene 1: Parking Lot
[Track 1] It is dark. There aren't many cars parked. A white van stops outside the big, modernised building. The doors swing open, and surgeons carry multiple bodies under sheets.

Scene 2: Lobby
The surgeons walk through the empty reception. A man in a tight suit walks over.

THORNS: Ah, hello! You've made it. How many have you brought?

The surgeons don't respond.

THORNS: Ah, heheh...I see you're not talkative, are you? Let's see...is that 12? I think it's 12. Well, go down to the biology specimens and leave them with the others.

The surgeons walk past Steven. They enter the lifts, which start to move down. He walks off, obviously intimidated by them.

Scene 3: Basement
The surgeons carry the bodies along.

Scene 4: TARDIS
The Doctor carries a big, white, cylindrical device into the console room.

AMY: Sorry, who?

DOCTOR: The Antrepol.

RORY: Right. One more time.

DOCTOR: The Antrepol.

AMY: And what are you making?

DOCTOR: An atmospheric amplifier. The Antrepol are having issues with the weather on their homeworld due to a failed invasion - thanks to me. They need some help fixing it.

AMY: And how long will that take?

DOCTOR: Oh, not long. I've nearly got it working. But there's one thing missing.

RORY: What's that?

DOCTOR: I'm not sure. It malfunctioned when I tried to turn it on in the garden.

AMY: The TARDIS has a garden?

DOCTOR: Well, not anymore…I think it's because of this weird clicking noise.

RORY: Clicking noise?

DOCTOR: Have a listen.

The Doctor fiddles with the knobs on the device.

AMY: No!

RORY: No!

DOCTOR: What?

AMY: You just said that you blew up the garden using this.

DOCTOR: Oh, relax. I'm not going to set it off. I'm just switching it on. There's a manual fuse right here.

AMY: Oh, good.

The Doctor switches it on. It starts to whirr, with a quiet clicking in the background.

RORY: Oh, I hear it. I think it's coming from the back.

The Doctor looks at the back of the device.

DOCTOR: Oh, dear. I see. It's the quantum solar engine. Now where's the closest place to find one of those?

The Doctor types into a keyboard. He freezes.

DOCTOR: Oh, dear. Oh, that's not good.

AMY: What? Where?

DOCTOR: Earth. There's...alien technology on Earth.

He pulls a lever, and the TARDIS starts to materialise.

ROLL TITLES

Scene 5: Parking Lot
[Track 2] There are a lot more cars now. The TARDIS lands in a parking space. The Doctor opens the door.

DOCTOR: Hmm...I don't like this.

Amy and Rory walk out.

AMY: Where are we?

DOCTOR: There's some interference, not exactly sure. Definitely Earth, though. early 21st century, I'd say.

AMY: That's only three years in our future! We could go and read the news, see what's been happening whilst we've been gone.

DOCTOR: Ah, best not. By the weather, I guess…England… early October?

RORY: So what's this building?

DOCTOR: Looks like a hospital. Let's go inside.

They start to walk off.

RORY: We can't just wander in there, can we?

DOCTOR: Oh, come on, Rory. This isn't your first day. The psychic paper, remember!

RORY: Oh, right. So what are we going to be?

Scene 6: Lobby
One of the receptionists look at the paper.

RECEPTIONIST: Health and safety inspection?

DOCTOR: That's us.

RECEPTIONIST: Alright, then. If you could wait here, thank you very much. I'll just contact Mr Thorns.

They step away from the desk and go and sit down.

AMY: Okay, so what's the plan now?

DOCTOR: Well, we go meet Mr Thorns, I'm guessing he's the boss man, and then…

RORY: You don't have a clue after that, do you?

DOCTOR: No…

Scene 7: Morgue
Thorns listens in on his radio.

THORNS: A health and safety inspection? I didn't get notice. Send a confirmation email to the Government. And hurry up. We cannot have an inspection today.

Thorns turns off his radio and looks at the surgeons.

THORNS: So, are you done?

Thorns hesitates.

THORNS: What?

One of the surgeons approaches him with a needle.

THORNS: What...what are you doing with that? Get away from me! No! No!

The surgeon stabs Thorns. He looks at them.

THORNS: What...what...have...you...done?

Thorns' speech starts to slur, before he suddenly collapses.

Scene 8: Lobby
The Doctor sits with Amy and Rory.

DOCTOR: Go on, go to the little shop if you want.

AMY: Fine. Come on, Rory.

Amy and Rory walk off. Guards look at the Doctor suspiciously, but he doesn't seem aware. They walk over to him and grab him.

DOCTOR: What's going on?

GUARD: If you could come with me, sir.

The guards escort him away.

DOCTOR: Tell you what, this is definitely going on the report.

Scene 9: Morgue
The surgeons are gone. Two doctors walk in, noticing Thorn's body lying on the tile floor facing away from them.

LAKEMAN: Oh, my goodness! Are you okay?

WHITE: Careful.

[Track 3] The doctors run over to him. Lakeman rolls him over, to reveal rashes and buboes.

WHITE: Oh, my god!

LAKEMAN: That's horrible. We have to warn upstairs, it might be contagious.

WHITE: What...is that?

LAKEMAN: I don't...I don't…know. It's familiar though...

WHITE: Check the fingerprint log. Look at who's been inside this room over the past...by the appearance, I'd say, 30 minutes.

Lakeman starts to approach the door, but slips.

LAKEMAN: I'm fine, I'm just...uh, oh…no, no, no...

WHITE: What's wrong?

LAKEMAN: I don't feel so good…

WHITE: Oh, god. It is contagious!

White steps away from Lakeman.

LAKEMAN: Help me!

WHITE: I'm sorry. I can't help you. I've got to put the hospital into quarantine.

LAKEMAN: You can't leave me down here! What's going to happen to me?

WHITE: I'm sorry. I don't know.

LAKEMAN: Oh, god!

White runs out. Lakeman looks woozy, and collapses, knocking over a bed as he falls.

Scene 10: Interrogation Room
The Doctor is chained to the chair he is sitting on.

BAKER: Now, why don't you tell us what you really want?

DOCTOR: I work for the Government, there's a health and safety inspection in this place, and I'm it! Honestly, if this is how you treat one-time visitors, how do you deal with resident patients?

BAKER: He won't tell us the truth.

PHELL: Just tell us. Why did you try to impersonate inspectors?

DOCTOR: Fine, fine. I just came to look for something here. Something wrong here.

The guards look at each other.

Scene 11: Generator Room
White stumbles in. His vision is blurry. He goes to a computer and types into it. He rocks back and forth dizzily.

WHITE: Bub...bubonic...

As he presses enter, he collapses. An alarm blares and the lights go out.

Scene 12: Interrogation Room
[Track 4] The lights go out.

DOCTOR: What's going on?

The guards switch their torches on, allowing for the only shred of light to enter the dark room. However, the torches are dim and are failing.

BAKER: I'm not sure. Power failure, I'm guessing. That's the problem with faulty solar panels. It'll restart in a moment.

DOCTOR: Alright.

PHELL: Uh, the door's locked.

BAKER: What?

PHELL: The door, it won't open.

DOCTOR: My betting is the door's linked to a magnetic seal. The power goes out, so does this door. And I'm guessing the same type of door works the main one out the front too. Bit advanced, mind. But this isn't a normal power cut.

PHELL: Of course it is. What are you talking about?

DOCTOR: Uncuff me, I'll show you.

The guards hesitate.

DOCTOR: Oh, for god's sake, I need to learn how to escape from cuffs. Like Houdini. Good old Houdini.

Baker walks over to the Doctor and uncuffs him.

DOCTOR: Thank you. Now, look at this. If this is a normal power cut, I should be able to open this door by loosening the magnetic seal.

The Doctor takes out the sonic screwdriver and points it at the door.

DOCTOR: It's not working. As I thought. Something's blocking the signal. So...we're trapped in here.

The Doctor takes off his jacket and rolls up the sleeves of his blue shirt.

DOCTOR: Any ideas?

PHELL: I repeat, does anyone read me?

Nothing.

PHELL: Not even white noise. It's like my radio's been switched off.

DOCTOR: Yep, that's going to happen. Someone's draining the power from the building, or something. We could kick through the door.

BAKER: Kick through the-? You realise that you're still a prisoner, don't you? And don't you think it's strange that all this started happening whilst you're in our custody?

DOCTOR: Except it didn't.

BAKER:...W-what?

DOCTOR: I'll bet that there's been power fluctuations recently, am I right?

BAKER: No…

DOCTOR: Okay, good. So it's nothing to do with Cybermats.

BAKER: What?

DOCTOR: People love correcting you. Use that skill to interrogate people. Don't they teach you this at security school?

PHELL: Should I lock him up again?

BAKER: Do it.

DOCTOR: What? Hey, no!

The Doctor is cuffed to the chair again.

DOCTOR: Get these off me, we need to work together to figure out what's going on.

BAKER: This doesn't concern you, sit tight whilst WE formulate a plan, not you.

DOCTOR: Oh.

The guards step aside.

PHELL: You know, I think he's right. Our only option is to kick the door down.

BAKER: If you think about it, it's not possible. The door has magnetic locks. You need to disable them first.

PHELL: And how can we do that?

BAKER: An electromagnet?

PHELL: Wait…

Phell walks over to the mirror embedded into the wall.

PHELL: This is one sided glass, right? Could we smash through this?

BAKER: We could, yeah.

PHELL: Then let's do it.

Phell picks up a chair and beats it against the glass.

DOCTOR: Are you going to uncuff me?

BAKER: Doubtful.

DOCTOR: No, you're not leaving me here! Did you hear me? I said you're not leaving me here!

The glass smashes.

BAKER: You'll stay here until the situation's sorted out.

The guards climb through, leaving the Doctor behind.

DOCTOR: No, no! Hey!

Scene 13: Guard's Lounge
Red lights light up slowly and then fade away. The guards walk through.

PHELL: What is up here? Where is everyone?

BAKER: That's just what I was thinking. It's weird that the lights still work. It must be the emergency backup system.

PHELL: Hate to admit it, Jim, but the guy was right.

BAKER: How do you mean?

PHELL: Something was blocking the power.

BAKER: It's clearly not, though, otherwise we wouldn't be able to see each other.

PHELL: And what about our torches? Why do they barely work? And my radio?

BAKER: The batteries, that's all. They just need changing.

PHELL: Okay, try your radio, then.

BAKER: Alright.

Baker unclips his radio and holds it to his mouth.

BAKER: This is Jim Baker, is anyone there?

Nothing.

PHELL: See? Nothing.

BAKER: I repeat, this is Jim Baker.

PHELL: Maybe we should go back for him.

BAKER: I'm not going to risk my job just because of a power cut.

Phell walks over to a laptop and tries to turn it on.

PHELL: Oh, my god.

The screen reads:

QUARANTINE PROCEDURES ACTIVATED.

PHELL: Quarantine. Oh, my god!

BAKER: Christ, uh...Christ.

Baker starts walking to the door.

BAKER: Okay, we've just got to work out what's happened to the others, and-

As Baker goes to open the door, he looks through the window and sees lots of mutilated bodies.

BAKER: Agh!

Phell runs over.

PHELL: What, what is it?

BAKER: They're the guards!

PHELL: Some of the guards, some of the doctors…

BAKER: Okay, I don't care about my job, that guy is still vulnerable to whatever's affected those people. I've changed my mind, let's go back for him.

DOCTOR: Don't worry, I'm here!

They spin around quickly, and see the Doctor behind them.

PHELL: What the-how the hell?

DOCTOR: I just remembered meeting Houdini back when I was younger and teaching me how to escape. Sorry, I'm getting older. Now, what are we so worried about in…

The Doctor looks through the window.

DOCTOR: Oh. Oh, dear. Bubonic plague.

BAKER: The Black Death? It can't be.

DOCTOR: It is. This means the hospital's been put on quarantine. Has it spread to upstairs?

BAKER: We don't know. It's possible if there was enough exposure.

DOCTOR: If it hasn't, we've got to stop it spreading. I've got friends up there. I've got to look after them.

PHELL: Not to mention the hundreds of patients as well.

BAKER: The lifts will have shut down, but there's still a fire escape leading both outside and upstairs.

DOCTOR: We need to defend that. Lead the way.

They walk out.

Scene 14: Corridor

They walk through.

DOCTOR: I think I've worked out why none of our devices work.

BAKER: Oh? Why's that?

DOCTOR: It's the quarantine. It's jamming all communications, any SOS calls, anything. It's to stop anyone breaking in. This is all very advanced, this is very wrong.

PHELL: Oh!

[Track 5] They turn around. The surgeons stand there. The three start to walk towards the surgeons.

DOCTOR: Hello! You've survived, then. Where've you been hiding?

The surgeons remain silent.

DOCTOR: Are you listening? I'm the Doctor. Well, not a Doctor, but I'm a Doctor that can help. What are your names?

The surgeons are still quiet. They stop.

DOCTOR: You know, I think we should move away.

PHELL: What?

DOCTOR: State your planet of origin and intent.

The surgeons do not start speaking.

DOCTOR: Wow, this must be the most interesting conversation ever. Can you speak?

The surgeons simultaneously take off their masks. They are skeletons.

GUARD: Oh, my god. Oh, my god.

DOCTOR: I don't believe it. They're carriers.

PHELL: Carriers?

DOCTOR: Carriers of the Plague. They've been long dead. Some sort of time wind must've caught the bodies and dropped them off here, say...600 years in the future? That would explain the futuristic technology, they must've adapted it into the building work.

PHELL: 600 years? They time travelled? Don't be ridiculous.

DOCTOR: Don't believe me if you want, but that's what's happening. The Time Winds must have reanimated them, as did the plague. It's advanced, now. It can use humans as a host to spread.

BAKER: This is stupid.

DOCTOR: Say that to all those dead people back there. Listen to me. If you're intelligent, listen. I can take you home. What do you say?

PHELL: (to Baker) Jim, they're between us and the fire escape, what can we do?

The surgeons walk off.

DOCTOR: They know about the fire escape. Oh, no. No, no, no!

They run after them.

The surgeons start to walk to the door. Suddenly people in hazard suits burst in. They spray a strange liquid at the skeletons, who suddenly collapse. The Doctor and the two guards run over, and stop.

DOCTOR: Aah! Don't shoot! Friendly! Very friendly!

ARCH: What's happened down here? We received a message about the bubonic plague before the building went into quarantine.

DOCTOR: Speaking of quarantines, I think you breaking in lowered it, so well done for that. There's been a small case down here. Any casualties upstairs?

ARCH: No. Is everyone dead?

DOCTOR: I think so.

ARCH: Then we need to move out and sterilise the place. Go, go!

The people fan out across the halls.

ARCH: You three will need to be sterilised as well.

DOCTOR: Oh? And how will that be done?

A few men spray them with the liquid.

DOCTOR: Oh, stop, stop!

Arch nods. The men stop.

DOCTOR: Let me guess, some sort of anti-plague solution?

ARCH: That's correct. That should be enough. We'll be holding you in quarantine for another hour before we let you go. Come on.

The three are escorted out.

Scene 15: Lobby
[Track 6] The Doctor walks down, clearly soaked in the solution. He is wearing his tweed jacket again. He runs over to the Ponds and hugs them.

AMY: All better?

DOCTOR: Yeah, all better.

AMY: We never stopped telling them, you know. We saw you get arrested and we knew you were stuck down there. We forced them to come and rescue you.

DOCTOR: Thanks. You alright?

RORY: Yeah.

They start to walk out.

DOCTOR: I managed to find the quantum solar engine. It was generating the heating for the building.

RORY: Right, then. Let's go help the...what were they called again?

Scene 16: Parking Lot

They walk through.

DOCTOR: The Antrepol.

RORY: The Antrepal?

DOCTOR: Antrepol. Pol!

AMY: Antrepol. And where do they live?

DOCTOR: Anaresztucturatiumao Minor.

AMY: I'm not even going to try to pronounce that.

They walk over to the TARDIS. There is a parking ticket taped onto it.

DOCTOR: Typical.

They walk into the TARDIS, and as it takes off, the ticket dissolves and disappears.
