A very long time ago…
Scene 1: Gallifrey Plains
[Track 1] A Dalek Ship hovers above the ruined Citadel. Daleks patrol the hills, heading towards the ruins.
Scene 2: Gallifreyan Temple
There are screams and blasts in the distance. Romana sits in the middle of the room. A Chancellory Guard bursts in.
CHANCELLORY GUARD: Madame President, its time to go.
ROMANA: No! He'll come, he always does.
CHANCELLORY GUARD: He's on Skull Moon.
ROMANA: What of the Master?
CHANCELLORY GUARD: He's not been seen since the Daleks took the Cruciform.
ROMANA: This is it, then. The End of the Time War. I shall not run any longer. I shall face my enemies with dignity.
CHANCELLORY GUARD: Madame President, I strongly protest-!
ROMANA: Go, now. Whilst you still can. That is an order!
The guard hesitates.
CHANCELLORY GUARD: Yes, Madame President.
The guard runs out. Romana gasps, as she hears the whirring movement of a Dalek.
DALEK: Lady President Romana Of Gallifrey!
Romana sighs. She stands and turns to the four Daleks that block the exit.
DALEK: You have been summoned by the Emperor. He has plans for you.
ROMANA: Whatever you're thinking of doing with me, forget it. I'm not coming, so you may as well kill me.
The Daleks split down the middle as one Dalek with a needle shaped weapon in place of the sucker enters the room. Romana backs away screaming, as the Daleks look emotionless towards her. Suddenly the screams subside.
DALEK: President procured. Preparing for teleport to mothership!
Scene 3: TARDIS
[Track 2] The TARDIS is in mid flight.
DOCTOR: That's when I told Aristotle that Pythagoras was indeed right, and that the Earth was indeed round. But then he said it was a triangle and threw a bottle at me. He was very drunk. Then again, so was I.
RORY: I don't believe it. I don't believe it!
DOCTOR: I have a picture if you want to see. Look, me Aristotle and King Richard. Bowling night, 1998.
AMY: Doctor, how long's that been flashing?
Amy points to a red light on the console.
DOCTOR: Oh, hello. Distress signal, 250 years old. Comes with a message.
RORY: Well, what does it say?
DOCTOR: Let's have a look.
The Doctor fiddles with the controls, then is quite taken aback at what it says on the scanner.
AMY: Doctor? What is it?
DOCTOR:Old High Gallifreyan...It says...Help Romana.
The Doctor looks to his friends fearfully.
ROLL TITLES
Scene 3: Disused Factory
[Track 3] The Doctor wakes up.
DOCTOR: Augh…Amy? Rory?
He looks around. His companions aren't there. What is there, though, is broken shells and instruments of Time War Daleks.
DOCTOR: Okay…Not liking where this is going.
A door opens. The Doctor ducks behind a wall and sees a red Paradigm Dalek enter.
DRONE: Dalek Zone 4 clear. Extracting materials.
DOCTOR: Extracting materials? For what?
There is an explosion. The Doctor turns to see a dirtied and charred tundra with a burnt stormy brown sky in front of him. Bombs fly down from advanced paradigm Dalek ships.
DRONE: Unregistered life form detected. Locating!
The Doctor sneaks away and climbs through a small hole within barbed wire.
Scene 4: Dalek Corridor Ruins
The Doctor climbs through to a lift. He sonics it open and presses the buzzer for the top floor.
Scene 5: Dalek Bridge Ruins
The Doctor runs to a window and looks out. In the landscape, there are hundreds of destroyed Dalek ships and flames among the burnt trees and rocks.
DOCTOR: It's a battleground.
He steps forward looking down.
DOCTOR: Who did this to you?
The Doctor sees that he is in the ruins of the Dalek Mothership.
Scene 6: Dalek Holding Cells
Rory wakes up. There is a Drone Dalek guarding him. He gasps.
RORY: (Whispering) Okay...
Rory looks through a hole in the wall. Amy is sitting there.
RORY: (Whispering) Amy! Amy, are you okay?
AMY: (Whispering) You took a while.
RORY: (Whispering) Daleks? What's going on here? Where's the Doctor?
AMY: (Whispering) I don't know. We need to get out and find the Doctor's friend.
Rory's cell door opens.
DRONE: You shall reveal what you know of the Doctor's weaknesses.
RORY: I don't know about that.
DRONE: You lie. The Supreme Council wish to meet with you.
AMY: Don't hurt him.
Rory and the Drone walk off. Amy looks off. She hears a psst and looks across.
AMY: Hello, what's your name?
It is Romana.
ROMANA: My name is Romanaveratnalunda.
AMY: Romanaver...Romana? You're the Doctor's friend!
ROMANA: He's come? The old fool.
AMY: Old? The Doctor's not old.
ROMANA: I guess he must've regenerated again.
AMY: You knew the Doctor in the past, then?
ROMANA: Yes. He changed so much over the time I knew him. Once, he was an eccentric, mad traveller. Then, the killer of worlds.
AMY: What? He's not a killer.
ROMANA: That's what I thought. But then War changes people. I saw him do things I didn't believe he was capable of, killed people I...He killed people who got in the way. I'd gone so far to think that it wasn't the Doctor.
AMY: That's not true, it can't be.
ROMANA: I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.
Amy looks away.
AMY: Well, then. I'll have to prove you wrong. I'm Amy. Any idea how to get out?
Romana looks about, checking for Daleks.
ROMANA: One.
Romana snaps a piece off her Time Lord head gear and pries it into the lock. The circuitry fizzes and the door opens. She smashes Amy's lock and the door opens.
AMY: Let's go find my husband.
Scene 7: Paradigm Dalek Ship Entrance
[Track 4] The Doctor runs across the tundra towards the ship entrance sneakily, and jumps in.
Scene 8: Paradigm Dalek Ship Corridors
The Doctor sees Rory and the Dalek Drone waiting for a lift. The walls are metallic and grey, and have hexagonal patterns, similar to the walls in City of the Daleks.
RORY: What am I needed for? I'm not going to tell you anything.
DRONE: Silence!
Rory sighs. The lift door opens. As Rory and the Drone enter and the lift starts to move, the Doctor holds onto the bottom.
Scene 9: Paradigm Dalek Ship Bridge
The room is similar to the Control Room from Victory of the Daleks, except the colour is greyer and there are two stages on both sides of the Progenitor Chamber. A White Supreme, a black Supreme, a purple Supreme and the Eternal Dalek stand on them, surrounded by a few scientists and strategists around the Dalek terminals.
ETERNAL: The human approaches.
The door opens, and the Drone and Rory enter.
RORY: Uh...Hello.
PURPLE SUPREME: You shall reveal everything you know about the Doctor.
RORY: Uh...I don't think so.
The Doctor sneaks in and hides.
RORY: What do you want from him?
The Supremes look to the Eternal. It almost looks disturbed.
ETERNAL: Time and time...
WHITE SUPREME: After our resurrection, we hunted for the progenitors. One remains. The most important. The Eternal looks through the Time Vortex to find it, and we shall use the Doctor's TARDIS to procure it.
There is a brief sonic whirr. Rory looks about.
PURPLE SUPREME: What is the secret to the TARDIS?
RORY: I don't know. I wouldn't tell you anyway.
WHITE SUPREME: Bring the rest of the Doctor's friends to me. If you do not reveal the secrets of the Time Lords, they shall be hurt.
RORY: If you kill Amy, I'll never let you leave alive.
Two Drones exit, going past the Doctor, who is rewiring a Strategist Dalek.
BLACK SUPREME: There are other possibilities aside from death. If you wish for them to be unharmed, you must confess.
RORY: I don't know!
DRONE: Supreme! The Eternal Scanner is being intercepted by a different transmission wavelength!
A screen showing the Time Vortex to a Dalek POV. Time War Daleks are being hunted over the Tundra - Romana is freed by Paradigm Daleks and recaptured. On the Mothership, the TARDIS lands and the crew are ambushed. A gas emerges and the Doctor falls down a hole in the floor. Amy and Rory are captured.
RORY: We were drugged. That's why I couldn't remember!
DRONE: (over radio) The prisoners have escaped!
The Supremes turn back to Rory.
BLACK SUPREME: What treachery is this?
RORY: I didn't realise!
BLACK SUPREME: You must be punished! Drones, activate your torture weapons.
Drones drop their gun and the back slats start to move like a conveyor belt. Another gun replaces it.
DOCTOR: (In Dalek Voice) Halt!
The Doctor walks over, wearing the Strategist helmet. He takes it off.
DOCTOR: Sorry, couldn't resist. Hello!
WHITE SUPREME: Doctor!
DOCTOR: If you wanted my TARDIS, why didn't you just ask? Rory, you alright?
RORY: Bit shaken.
DOCTOR: Understandable, you've been hanging around with these metal maniacs. Been busy hunting down inferior Dalek classes, I see. I also noticed they tried to make Romana forget about anything she learnt around them. Interesting. Now I have a proposition for you. Let my friends go free, do not harm them in any way and I will give you my TARDIS. Do we have a deal?
WHITE SUPREME: ...I agree.
The Doctor grins.
Scene 10: Paradigm Dalek Ship Entrance
[Track 5] Amy and Romana climb down. Time War Daleks advance past them.
AMY: More Daleks.
ROMANA: I don't think it's us they're after. The Daleks on board that ship are made from progenitors, and they're pure Dalek. The Daleks that remain were made from Davros, they're impure and dying. They're being hunted down by these Progenitors, so they're going to fight back.
AMY: How do you know all this?
ROMANA: When I was captured, I was taken to Davros. I nearly died, but then we were rescued and taken to the future. Then the Doctor destroyed most of the Dalek fleet, but a few ships survived. This is all that's left of the Daleks.
DALEK: Prepare the cannon! Destroy the Supreme Council!
A large cylindrical cannon moves forward. It's colour is similar to the Time War Daleks and there is a red light growing inside of it.
ROMANA: I don't know about you, but I think we should go.
AMY: Where?
ROMANA: Back to their ship.
AMY: Are you nuts? There'll be Daleks everywhere.
ROMANA: I've been with them for ages. I've picked up stuff. We can destroy them.
AMY: And then what?
ROMANA: The Doctor will be stopping the Daleks on the ship, we can get rid of them all right here right now. But we have to act quickly. Come on!
Romana stands up. A Dalek looks at them.
AMY: No, wait!
DALEK: Exterminate!
The Dalek shoots Romana. She screams as she is engulfed in a blue light.
AMY: No!
Romana collapses. She gasps and writhes in pain.
ROMANA: No...not again...I can't deal with it again! I don't want to go again!
AMY: What do you mean, again?
Romana looks at her hands, which are starting to glow.
ROMANA: No! It's started!
She gets up.
ROMANA: Get back!
Amy stumbles away. Romana starts to regenerate.
ROMANA: Please...! Stop it! I'm regenerating! No! Amy, I'm sorry. I'm sorry!
Romana regenerates. The Dalek fires multiple times at Romana. She flies back, hitting her head against a rock and falling to the floor. The fiery light fades away as she goes limp. Amy rushes over to her and kneels by her side.
AMY: Romana! Romana, are you okay?
DALEK: Stand away from the Time Lady!
AMY: She's dead.
DALEK: You shall be exterminated! Exterminate!
The Dalek is destroyed. A Drone is behind Amy.
DRONE: Follow me.
AMY: Wait! Why did you save me?
DRONE: The orders of the Supreme Council. The Doctor waits for you.
Amy follows the Drone inside, looking back at Romana once more.
Scene 11: Paradigm Dalek Ship Bridge
[Track 6] The Doctor watches as the TARDIS is brought in.
DOCTOR: Hello, old girl. I'm sorry, it's time to say goodbye.
RORY: Is there nothing you can do?
DOCTOR: I'm sorry, Rory, but I've got to keep you safe. That's why I'll show them how to control the TARDIS by taking you home. We've just got to wait for Amy and Romana. You need to look after them both. Our planet is gone, Romana's got nowhere to go to.
RORY: You're not coming with us?
DOCTOR: If I can stop the Daleks, I've got to try. But I don't want to risk your life.
RORY: I get it.
ETERNAL: Progenitor located!
The Doctor and Rory turn back to the Eternal.
PURPLE SUPREME: Download temporal co-ordinates.
ETERNAL: Affirmative!
DOCTOR: I guess that means we've run out of time.
RORY: I've never said this to you, but...thank you. I'd have never imagined doing this as a young kid back in Leadworth. And I'd never have missed it for the world.
Amy runs in.
AMY: Rory!
Amy hugs Rory.
AMY: Doctor...I'm sorry. The Daleks, they...they killed her.
DOCTOR: What?
AMY: Romana's dead.
The Doctor looks down.
RORY: Are you okay?
The Doctor stammers.
DOCTOR: ...Yeah. Yeah, I'm okay. She...was the only other Time Lord in this Universe, and now she's...
Amy hugs the Doctor, whose eyes start to tear up.
WHITE SUPREME: Enough of this. You shall let us enter the time machine now.
The Doctor opens the doors.
DOCTOR: Well, then. Won't you come in?
Scene 12: TARDIS
The Doctor, Amy and Rory walk in, followed by the Purple Supreme and two Drones. The White Supreme appears on the scanner.
PURPLE SUPREME: Report log 32281. The Dalek Stratagem was successful. TARDIS now possessed by the Daleks.
DOCTOR: Stratagem? What do you mean?
PURPLE SUPREME: The Time Lady was the bait to entice you into the trap where we would steal the TARDIS.
DOCTOR: And this was your idea, was it?
WHITE SUPREME: Cease this procrastination!
DOCTOR: Fine. Right, so to take off, you need to first lift off from the ground.
The Doctor pulls down a lever. The TARDIS suddenly springs into life.
Scene 13: Paradigm Dalek Ship Bridge
The TARDIS hovers a few inches from the ground, spinning. The Daleks move back slightly.
Scene 14: TARDIS
The Doctor then presses a few buttons and pulls another lever. The lights flicker slowly. [Track 7]
DOCTOR: You then drain the power for your weapons systems!
The Daleks look at their guns.
DRONE: Power failure! Power failure!
DOCTOR: Then you smash into the Dalek power unit. Amy, Rory, get down!
The Doctor slams a lever down.
Scene 15: Paradigm Dalek Ship Bridge
The TARDIS smashes into the controls and the ship. The room explodes into flames.
Scene 16: Time War Dalek Ship Bridge
The Dalek alarm blares.
DALEK 1: Paradigm Ship defences weakened!
DALEK 2: Fire cannon!
DALEK 1: Proximity alert-!
The TARDIS smashes into the Bridge, throwing debris everywhere.
DALEK 1: We are under attack! Exterminate!
The roof collapses.
Scene 17: Planetary Orbit
The TARDIS zooms into the sky.
Scene 18: TARDIS
The TARDIS judders.
DOCTOR: Now what to do with you? Any ideas, Pond?
AMY: No.
DOCTOR: What about Mr Pond?
RORY: No idea, but I think it should be something humiliating, what do you think?
DOCTOR: I know! How about we say hello to gravity? Hold onto something!
The Doctor spins a wheel and flicks a switch. The doors open and the Daleks fly out as the TARDIS turns on it's side. Rory slips and falls.
Scene 19: Planetary Orbit
Rory hangs onto the TARDIS. The Daleks fire at the lamp before exploding. The TARDIS goes out of control.
RORY: Oi, help!
Scene 20: TARDIS
The TARDIS sparks.
DOCTOR: I can't stabilise the TARDIS! Rory, catch!
The Doctor hits a button and a sonic screwdriver forms. It falls out of place.
Scene 21: Planetary Orbit
Rory catches the sonic and uses it on the lamp. It starts to dematerialise, and Amy helps Rory inside as the doors shut. The TARDIS disappears.
Scene 22: TARDIS
Rory slumps against the wall, tired.
RORY: Never again...
The Doctor smiles.
CUT TO:
[Track 8] The Doctor sits on the chair, looking at his companions.
DOCTOR: Romana was a Time Lady, like me. We knocked about a bit, helped me reassemble the Key To Time, but then the Time War came. She was President, and had to do her duty. She was one of the only companions who understood what it feels like to outlive your friends. To outlive everyone. And now even she's gone. For a moment, I wasn't alone anymore.
AMY: You've still got us.
The Doctor hugs them both.
DOCTOR: For now.
RORY: What of the Daleks?
DOCTOR: Oh, they're weak, dying. Both clans will die out soon enough. Hopefully. We should destroy that progenitor, just in case. We've got the coordinates, let's go get it.
RORY: What was in it? What's the most important Dalek?
DOCTOR: It's better we don't know.
The Doctor starts playing with the controls. Amy and Rory look at each other.
Scene 23: Paradigm Dalek Ship Bridge
The White Dalek Supreme is on its side. It groans.
DALEK: Dalek Supreme!
It looks to a few damaged Time War Daleks.
WHITE SUPREME: My legion is weak. Spare me. We cannot harm you.
DALEK: We too, are of few numbers. That is why we propose an alliance!
WHITE SUPREME: An alliance?
The Supreme looks around at the ruins around them.
WHITE SUPREME: An alliance!
