Scene 1: Plymouth Sound Harbour
[Track 1] Captions say December 27, 1831.
A man dressed elegantly, clearly a man of higher status, hugs a woman.

FITZROY: You must continue with your life whilst I am gone.

WOMAN: I shall miss you dearly.

FITZROY: Farewell.

Fitzroy starts to board the boat.

FITZROY: Well, then. Anchors away! Let's depart!

Crewmates start to lift the anchors out of the water as a large boat starts to move away from the dock. People wave as it starts to drift. Through the window, a grandfather clock materialises.

Scene 2: The Master's TARDIS
The room is dark, and the bright console, like the shape of the room, is hexagonal. The time rotor emits a red glow. Struts have Gallifreyan writing on them. The Master pushes some buttons on the console.

MASTER: Yes, yes. All good.

The Master disguises himself as a crew member. He then peeks out from the door of the TARDIS to make sure nobody sees. He walks out of the TARDIS.

MASTER: Now, I wait.

Scene 3: Shore
Captions type: Four years later…
The Doctor walks out of the TARDIS, along with Amy, Rory, and River.

DOCTOR: The TARDIS has detected something wrong here.

AMY: Do you think it could be the Master?

DOCTOR: Who else could it be? We were right behind him.

RORY: Okay, and? What is wrong?

DOCTOR: Well, we'll have to find out.

RIVER: Hey, Doctor, do you see that ship over there? Could that be-

DOCTOR: The HMS Beagle!

The four walk over to the ship. They see a crew member on the deck that looks quite familiar. This person gets overshadowed when they look away from the ship and see a face that more people would be able to recognize: Charles Darwin.

DOCTOR: That's Charles Darwin! You know, I've always thought about meeting Charles Darwin, but didn't want to risk screwing up the past. But now's the chance!

AMY: But Doctor, shouldn't we be finding out what's wrong?

DOCTOR: Let's speak to Charles first.

The Doctor jogs over to Charles.

DOCTOR: Hello, there!

CHARLES: Hello? Am I supposed to know you? And what are you wearing?

DOCTOR: Oh, right, I'm… not from your ship. I come from another.

CHARLES: But why would you set sail in that?

DOCTOR: It's not important. Now, how are your studies of wildlife going along?

CHARLES: You're an odd man. How do you know that I'm studying- and I would like to correct you? I'm not here studying the animals- I mean, I am; I just wasn't really invested in this. I am skilled when it comes to knowledge of the creatures, but I just don't want to be involved with that. I just want to be a parson when I get back to England.

DOCTOR: Wha-

CHARLES: Have you got a problem that that? I've never wanted to spend my whole life studying animals; I just want to be a parson. That would be quite a boring life. I only accepted coming here because I wanted to see what it's like outside of England. I'm not enjoying it much.

Amy, Rory and River's eyes are wide. The Doctor's jaw hits the ground.

CUT TO:

[Track 2] The Doctor looks back to Charles.

DOCTOR: Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. You have no interest in studying the life here?

CHARLES: I never did. I just said, I wanted to see the world, but it's not as interesting as I thought. Also, we should be leaving today. I urged Captain Robert FitzRoy to leave earlier.

The Doctor checks the time on his watch. It's the eighth of October, the day they should've just arrived.

DOCTOR: You're leaving the day you arrived on this island?

CHARLES: What do you mean? We got here on the fifth. Anyway, I should really be going.

DOCTOR: No- I mean, could you stay a bit longer? I mean, you should really be studying the animals here. You're a big part of the future. You MUST stay here. If you don't, then you could ruin the future.

CHARLES: The future?

The Doctor looks back at his companions with a bit of regret.

DOCTOR: Look, we're from the future. You came up with the theory of evolution from these islands. Please stay longer.

Charles looks at him with silence.

CHARLES: Pfft, really. I don't believe a word you say. Time traveller? That's impossible! Evolution? What is that? Look, I'm sorry guys, but it sounds like you've just walked out of a pub. Do you have a pub on your ship or something?

The Doctor groans and looks down while crossing his arms. He taps his foot repeatedly.

DOCTOR: Would you believe us if we told you things that only a time traveller would know?

CHARLES: No, you're drunk!

DOCTOR: You were born on the 12th of February, 1809. You were the fifth of six children. You spent the summer of 1825 as an apprentice doctor, helping your father treat the poor of Shropshire. Is that enough proof?

CHARLES: Sorry, but I was not listening.

The Doctor turns away to face his companions.

DOCTOR: Let's just go on the ship with him. They won't leave immediately. We can convince the captain to also stay here.

CHARLES: You're… coming?

DOCTOR: Yes.

They walk off together.

Scene 4: The Mess Room
It's a crowded scene. Crew members are bustling about. The chefs are prepping foods, the Royal Marines wander around, keeping an eye on everyone, and the rest sit around, talking to one another and drinking. Everyone is compact into a small space.

DOCTOR: You guys keep an eye on Mr. Darwin while I search for the Master. Or, if I get the chance, speak with the captain. I can guarantee you the Master is somewhere on this ship.

AMY: Okay, we will.

The Doctor walks off.

RIVER: How about we get to know the crew?

RORY: Well, I wouldn't mind. But we should be keeping an eye on Charles.

AMY: He's easy to notice, Rory.

RORY: Well, sure then.

A Royal Marine walks by them.

RORY: How about we speak to that man in red who just walked by us?

RIVER: Sure.

River taps the marine's shoulder.

RIVER: Hello, sailor.

AMY: (to River) Don't forget you're married!

ROYAL MARINE: Hello.

RIVER: Who are you, then?

ROYAL MARINE: My name is Doyle. You?

RIVER: Doctor River Song.

AMY: Hi, I'm Amy. This is my husband Rory.

RORY: Hello.

DOYLE: What brings you here on this journey?

She hesitates.

RIVER: Well, we wanted to see the world, so we're helping with the survey here in South America. It's quite beautiful, isn't it?

DOYLE: It is nice to know that you are enjoying it, but I haven't been enjoying the trip very much. My friend Williams died just a year into the trip. The trip was supposed to be only two years, but it's already been 4. This is getting absurd. Now, you must be working with Charles Darwin, do you know him?

RIVER: Why, yes.

DOYLE: He's a nice guy, right?.As he is of high standing in the ship's staff, being close to the captain, he's been rapidly speeding up the time spend on the islands. He agrees that we should be back in England. He doesn't like it here. We've lost around 5 crew members since the beginning! I've known Williams since I was only a youngling. He was also a Royal Marine.

RORY: That's very unfortunate. I hope you make it through the trip okay.

DOYLE: Thank you very much.

As Rory and River speak to Doyle, Amy notices the same person they noticed when they first arrived in the Galapagos. It seems as if they came out of nowhere. She grows suspicious of this person. She looks back to the others.

AMY: I'm going to check something out, okay?

RORY: Okay, sure. Just…be careful?

Amy goes to where they saw the person come from. It's a corner with nothing but a grandfather clock.

AMY: That's weird.

Amy looks at the clock.

AMY: Could it really be…?

Amy pushes into the grandfather clock, revealing that is not a grandfather clock, but a TARDIS.

Scene 5: The Master's TARDIS
Amy enters the TARDIS.

AMY: What on Earth?

Amy then hears a familiar voice shout out.

DOCTOR: Amy!

Amy rushes to the sound.

DOCTOR: Over here!

The Doctor is tied up.

Scene 6: The Mess Room
River and Rory say goodbye to Doyle so he can continue his duty.

RIVER: Okay, now, how about we do some of our own investigation while Amy does her investigation, shall we? We should be able to find the Master in this crowd.

RORY: Oh, right, I forgot to mention, earlier, I saw someone who looked eerily a lot like the Master. Do you think it could be them?

RIVER: Really? What were they wearing?

RORY: Well, they were wearing your stereotypical 1830's civilian outfit. Suspenders, a cap, all that. In fact, now I can see them again, just walking out of… a corner? With nothing but a clock?

Suddenly, a loud noise blares. They put their hands on their heads, in agony. As the sound subsides, they look at each other.

RORY: Wait, what were we doing again?

RIVER: I'm honestly not sure. You?

RORY: I just asked what we were doing. Why are you asking me?

RIVER: I am not sure.

The two stare at each other in confusion.

Scene 7: The Master's TARDIS
Amy looks at the Doctor. [Track 3]

AMY: How'd you find the Master's TARDIS so quickly? You've only been gone for, like, five minutes!

DOCTOR: The Master has used this exterior before. As soon as I saw the grandfather clock, I already had a feeling it would be the Master's TARDIS… and I was right. Plus, the mess room isn't that big. The Master caught me and knocked me out for a long enough time so that he could tie me up. Now untie me already.

AMY: Alright.

Amy unties the Doctor.

DOCTOR: Okay, so, here's what the Master must have done. The Master used the TARDIS to hypnotise all of the crew members to believe that he is one of the crew members, which also goes with the captain, who also thinks that he recruited the Master. And in the case of the Charles Darwin, well, his hypnotisation was the most drastic. The Master must have gotten on the ship years back- maybe, four years ago. As Darwin got his idea of evolution from the Galapagos, and Darwin no longer has an interest, its obvious the Master got here awhile back. Pretty much everyone is used to having the Master as a crew member. And because the Master got here so long ago, the hypnosis has specifically prevented Darwin from coming up with the theory of evolution. Phew, that was one lengthy explanation.

Amy stares blankly.

AMY: Wow, that's…a lot. So, what do we do with all this information?

DOCTOR: So, if we reverse the hypnotic effects Darwin will finally no longer be so stubborn about wanting to learn about the creatures on the island and will be capable of making the theory of evolution. We just have to talk to Darwin to ignite that. In case you had no idea what I just said, to put it more simply, this hypnosis is just a wall preventing Darwin from learning. Okay?

AMY: Yeah, okay, let's hurry so that the Master doesn't walk into the TARDIS.

The Doctor looks around the desktop.

DOCTOR: There they are.

The Doctor pushes the buttons on the desktop.

DOCTOR: Okay, Amy, now, the hypnotic effects of the TARDIS have now been reversed. Even though the Master has been with the crew for four years, he's still going to be recognized as a non-crew member. Now we just have to capture him. Let's go meet up with River and Rory.

Scene 8: The Mess Room
The Doctor and Amy meet up with River and Rory, who are sitting down on chairs near the main hatch.

DOCTOR: We got 'em. It turns out everyone was hypnotised, including Darwin. The hypnotisation prevented Darwin from wanting to learn about evolution. We should be able to persuade him a lot easier now. Now come with me and Amy to the Master's TARDIS.

RORY: We were hypnotised? Is that why is seems as if I had just snapped back into reality?

DOCTOR: The Master got you both too? Darn. Okay, come on.

As the Doctor turns around to march at the Master's TARDIS, he sees the Master sneakily make his way into the TARDIS.

DOCTOR: Oh, no…

The Doctor charges at the TARDIS while a few people watch. He pounds at the door, but it's deadlocked. It then proceeds to materialize.

DOCTOR: No, no, no, no, no, no, no!

There is no longer a grandfather clock.

The Doctor looks back and sees some of the crew of the HMS Beagle staring at him.

DOCTOR: Well, this is awkward, isn't it? Just ignore me. Please.

Everyone obeys and walks away from the scene. The Doctor walks back to Amy and the others.

DOCTOR: Well, I tried. We'll get them next time.

Everyone looks down, disappointed. Then the Doctor looks up quickly.

DOCTOR: We're not done yet, however. We still have to convince Charles to study evolution, you know.

AMY: Oh, you're right.

RORY: But do we know where Darwin is?

DOCTOR: I thought I told you guys to keep an eye on him?

RIVER: Well, the thing is, Amy went off to "check something", and while she went off, we decided to do investigating. But then everything just went blank from there. Try asking Rory.

RORY: Well, pretty much everything River said, but we were actually talking to this guy who isn't enjoying the trip much. Someone wanted to get to know the crew.

RIVER: Fine, I will admit that was me. We did just waste time talking to someone instead of keeping an eye on Darwin. But your wife suspected he would be easy to find, anyway. But it appears he isn't?

RORY: But yeah, everything did go blank. Probably from the hypnosis we were just speaking of earlier.

DOCTOR: What matters now is that we look for Captain FitzRoy and convince him to not leave. After that, we go find Darwin. Is that clear?

RORY: Yeah, sure. Oh, I see Darwin over there.

DOCTOR: I said we find FitzRoy first! Yes, tempting to just go up to him right now, but we gotta stick to the plan. We split up and go look for the captain. Unless one of you want to talk to Darwin while we look for FitzRoy?

AMY: I'll volunteer to speak to Darwin. After all, I did free you!

DOCTOR: I'm not playing favourites here, Amy, but sure, you may be the one to speak to Darwin. Alrighty, let's split up.

[Track 4] The Doctor, River, and Rory leave to split up to look for the captain. Right away, Amy spots Darwin. Amy hesitates.

AMY: He's right… there! Should I?

Amy is nervous due to Darwin being such a big figure of history. Amy finally walks up to Darwin.

AMY: Uh- hello! Are you going to change your mind about leaving?

DARWIN: Of course I'm not. Why are you imbeciles still pestering me? I am not leaving!

AMY: Oh- uh, okay! I'll leave you be.

Amy walks away.

AMY: Oh, dear, how will I explain this to the Doctor?

Scene 9: The Captain's Cabin
The Doctor barges in.

DOCTOR: Aha! I found yo- I mean- greetings, captain.

FitzRoy is confused at first, but responds anyway.

FITZROY: Hello. What is it you wish to speak of?

DOCTOR: You must stay here at the island, captain.

FITZROY: I apologize, but what makes you think that you, a Midshipman, can say that to me? I would only take your word for it if the majority of the ship agrees to it-

DOCTOR: Darwin thinks we should go.

FITZROY: Does he?

DOCTOR: Yes, he does. Why don't you go speak to him?

FITZROY: Well, if he doesn't, then this would have been a very big waste of time and I will be very unhappy with you. I was in the middle of writing in my diary!

DOCTOR: Just speak to him already. He's in the Mess Room.

FITZROY: Just remember…

DOCTOR: Remember what?

FITZROY: Forget it.

FitzRoy walks out of the room slowly and intimidatingly. The Doctor walks out after him.

Scene 10: The Mess Room
The Doctor comes into the Mess Room with River and Rory.

RORY: You got the captain to talk to Darwin?

DOCTOR: Of course I-

Amy interrupts the Doctor as she finally finds him.

AMY: Doctor.

DOCTOR: Yes?

AMY: Darwin wouldn't comply.

The Doctor suddenly loses hope.

DOCTOR: What?

River barges into the conversation.

RIVER: This is why you shouldn't celebrate too early. The Captain is going to go absolutely berserk. They call him "Hot Coffee" for a reason.

DOCTOR: Where'd you hear that one from?

RIVER: A crew member on here referred to him as that.

DOCTOR: Oh, dear.

The Doctor continues to watch helplessly watches as Darwin and FitzRoy talk to each other while knowing that this is not going to work. FitzRoy then looks in the direction of the Doctor. The Doctor whispers to the others.

DOCTOR: Wish me luck.

The captain, aggravated, stomps toward the Doctor. The crew suddenly turn away, trying to avoid the commotion.

FITZROY: Care to explain yourself?!

DOCTOR: No.

FITZROY: I see how it is. Just trying to get a reaction out of me, eh?

DOCTOR: Yeah, sure. I'm leaving now. C'mon guys.

FitzRoy is confused, but walks back to his cabin, agitated. The Doctor, at the same time, walks out the ship through the main hatch as the rest of the TARDIS crew hesitates, but then decide to walk out with them. Due to the large crowd in the Mess Room, it is like nothing even happened.

Scene 11: Shore
After the crew is all off the ship, the Doctor reassures them. While the group walks in the direction of the TARDIS, the Doctor speaks.

DOCTOR: This is all a part of the plan, sort of. Considering they denied our request, the Master is probably still out there. It seems unlikely that he'd still be in the ship. Now, let's find the Master before the ship leaves- wait, what is that?

A grandfather clock stood blatantly right in the open, next to the TARDIS.

DOCTOR: There is no way he would've done it so obviously- just so… well- obvious.

The Doctor examines the grandfather clock for good measures.

DOCTOR: I want you all to wait outside of the grandfather clock. If I am not out in ten minutes, then you know something must have gone wrong, alright?

The crew hesitates at first, but they nod their head in unison.

DOCTOR: Okay, I will see you all when I hopefully get out.

The Doctor vanishes into the grandfather clock.

RORY: Hmph, "hopefully".

Scene 12: The Master's TARDIS
[Track 5] The Doctor enters and looks around.

DOCTOR: Alright, you so-called Master, come out here. Explain the meaning of this.

A figure comes out from the corner of the console room.

DOCTOR: I wonder, how long were you waiting in that corner for that dramatic entrance of yours?

MASTER: Not as long as you'd expect.

DOCTOR: Okay, thanks for answering that question; but more importantly, why'd you put your TARDIS right next to mine without even changing your chameleon circuit?

MASTER: You should know that I did that on purpose.

DOCTOR: Yes, of course, but please- just answer the question.

MASTER: Alright, then. I'll explain the meaning of this. I would like to barter with you.

DOCTOR: And what is it you would like to barter?

MASTER: Stop chasing me around and I'll free those people of my hypnotisation.

The Doctor waits for anything else to be said.

DOCTOR: That's it? Really? That was anticlimactic.

MASTER: Yes, that's it. Stop following me. I want to be free to do what I like. I'll even make it so that they get all the correct info shoved into their brains so that you don't have to tell them to do the "right thing".

DOCTOR: And what is it that you want to do?

MASTER: What I do is my personal business, not yours.

DOCTOR: I don't like this. I don't want to stop following you, but in an effort to restore history to the way it's supposed to carry it out, I don't think I have a choice. Fine. If you want me to stop, do as you say and fix history.

MASTER: You can trust me.

DOCTOR: Oh, can I?

MASTER: Okay, get out of here before I decide to change my mind for no reason whatsoever.

The Doctor walks out, looking back at the Master who is grinning.

Scene 13: Shore
The Doctor walks out.

RORY: Wow, that was awfully quick.

DOCTOR: Yeah, it was. The Master wanted to barter with us- or, me. He said that in exchange for not following him around, he'll reverse all the hypnotic effects and even cram all the correct information into their heads so that we don't have to speak to them again. I'm honestly curious as to whether they'd even remember us.

RIVER: Hopefully not.

The grandfather clock then starts to dematerialise, then disappears.

DOCTOR: Well, time to start heading off, eh?

RIVER: Yes, please.

The Doctor and River hastily make their way into the TARDIS while Amy and Rory lack behind, stumbling a little. The TARDIS materializes off the rocky beaches of Santiago Island as the HMS Beagle prepares to set sail.

Scene 14: TARDIS
The Doctor and River work at the controls.

DOCTOR: Present day?

RIVER: Sure. I want a break from all of this.

The Doctor gives a questioning look at Amy and Rory. They're both slumped out in different areas of the TARDIS. Rory is bent over a railing and Amy on one of the chairs.

DOCTOR: Are you guys okay?

The two are silent.

DOCTOR: No? River, can you check their vitals while I set the TARDIS off to London?

The Doctor pushes some buttons and pulls the lever to head off to present day London. The Doctor then rushes to see what is going on with Amy and Rory.

DOCTOR: How are they? Are they okay?

RIVER: No, I don't think they feel too good. Neither do I, to be honest.

Both Amy and Rory are dead silent.

DOCTOR: The moment we land, we should take them to a hospital immediately- and fast. You better get ready to help carry them.

The Doctor checks the scanner, concerned about his friends.

Scene 15: Trafalgar Square
The TARDIS lands in a London square. The Doctor opens the door of the TARDIS, only to find the sky filled with smoke.

DOCTOR: Looks like pollution has finally taken its toll on Earth. I'd say that we're in the…210th Century. Not too far off, I guess.

River, who finally finishes bringing Amy and Rory up to the door, climbs over the rubble that surrounds the TARDIS, and sees the ruins of Nelson's Column. The Doctor picks up a newspaper buried in the rocks.

RIVER: What is that?

A massive silhouette makes its appearance clear to the Doctor and River when they take a long and hard look at it. The surrounding buildings are all crumbled, with bodies littered in the area. There are flames in countless areas.

RIVER: Do you actually think the Master kept his promise?

The Doctor is too shocked to speak.
There is a crashed & wrecked freighter in the distance, stretching so far that the Doctor and River cannot see either end.
