Hello!

This is the first fanfic I will post on this website and I'm...kind of nervous. This is the first fanfic I ever wrote and I wrote it about 6 months ago as of September 2021. I hope you enjoy it and if you do please give me a review! I always appreciate feedback and ideas.

In this story, Yugo is 7 and has not met any of the other Wakfu characters. It has themes of bullying and violence so proceed with caution.

Tanned hands gently caressed the light blue fabric jammed on his head. In all his seven years, Yugo had never really taken off his hat, mostly because it was comfortable and comforting. But for the last couple of weeks, it had also been because he needed to hide a secret. He tried to control his breathing, but he was starting to hyperventilate. It's okay. I'm telling Dad soon anyway. Yugo slowly lifted his hat off and tried not to feel sick. Once his hat was off, he held his breath. Among his sandy hair, small glowing - horns? wings? - protruded a few centimetres from his head. Yugo tried not to cry, but he could already feel hot, wet tears slipping from his eyes. In front of the large mirror, no one could see him in the safety of his room. And yet he could still feel all the judgemental stares he would get if anyone found out about his secret. He had already seen almost everyone in town, including his father, without hats, and none of them had them.

"YUGO! Come down for dinner!"

Yugo jumped at Alibert's yells. But he wiped his eyes, clenched his fists, took a deep breath and steeled himself. Just don't let anyone see them. Just don't tell anyone, and it'll be okay. He grabbed his hat and ran down the stairs.

-5 minutes later-

"Yugo? Are you okay? You haven't said anything all dinner." Alibert looked at Yugo with pure concern and care in his eyes. That only made Yugo feel more guilty about not telling his dad about his problem. But he averted his eyes and smiled softly. "Yeah, Dad, I'm okay. Just tired." Yugo held his breath, hoping his father would buy it. But Alibert wasn't convinced. "Hey. Yugo. What's going on?" he asked softly, making Yugo start to sob again. "D-dad. I don't want anyone to know, I don't know what's happening, and I hate it! What am I?" cried Yugo, as Alibert scooped him up into his arms. Yugo sobbed heavily into his chest.

-Another 5 minutes later-

Yugo was in his bedroom and about to take his hat off again, but his dad was with him this time. As he lifted his hat off his head, his breath caught at what his father might think. Still, he tossed his hat aside, closed his eyes, and held his breath. Alibert gasped slightly at seeing the glowing blue horns protruding from his son's head. He could also see tears starting to slide down his son's face. "Y-yugo, what are those? How long has this been going on?" Yugo just stood there crying, shaking and trying to breathe but he couldn't. The small wings were glowing a bright blue and made Yugo's feet hover a few centimetres from the ground. After a while, Yugo got his breath back and started speaking. "A- a few weeks ago, my head started itching like crazy. Then, one morning, I-i woke up and my head was fine, but my head was glowing. I felt through my hair, and my fingers brushed them. It felt so, so painful...it was like someone sticking needles in my head. I didn't touch them after that. They slowly got bigger, until they made me...float."

-The next day-

Yugo was walking to Jason's house to pick up some bread and to play with Mia. It was around 6:30-ish, so customers would be coming for breakfast soon, and Yugo needed to hurry. As he crossed the town square, he felt a quick, sharp tug on his hat's tassel! He only just managed to keep it over his wings, but even the soft fabric brushing against them felt like agony. As soon as he had jammed it back firmly on his head Yugo whipped around to catch whoever had grabbed it, only to see a well-known troublemaker of Emelka, Rani. She stood a good head over Yugo, and she had a devilish smirk on her face that meant trouble. Big trouble. Yugo winced, remembering the last time he had ran into Rani without an adult around. Rani was the sneaky type bully, the kind that would be a perfect little angel until all adult backs were turned, then she would become a small demon. Bruises, cuts and even sliced fingertips were often seen. There were even rumours she had Shushu blood in her veins. "Hi, Yugo! Do you wanna come and play?" Rani asked in a sing-song tone, with a sweet smile replacing her smirk. Yugo wanted to run straight to Jason's but held himself steady, smiling as well. "Sorry, Rani, I need to go to Jason's, then I'm busy all day. Maybe another time?" Yugo tried to be as polite as possible, he didn't want another black eye. But Rani looked around to see if any adults were around, and when there weren't any, her smile became a smirk again. Yugo felt dread settle in the pit of his stomach, as she grabbed his wrist and whispered "Don't worry Yugo, so long as you don't struggle it will only take a second."...

-30 minutes later-

"LEMME GO RANI!" Yugo was screaming as loud as he could, but no one in Emelka could hear him, not in the shadowy folds of the Dark Forest. She was standing over him, trying to grab his hat. Yugo was trying to stop her from grabbing it, but his 7-year-old self was getting tired. It was almost 7, so Yugo was really late. His dad would be getting worried, and impatient. But Rani had him pushed up against a tree, which really hurt, and she had seen some form of light from under his hat and she was determined to find out what it was. So far, he had managed to evade her grabs, but the 10-year-old was stronger, bigger and had more stamina. Luckily, Rani's father's messenger bird came with a message, so she was distracted for a while. Yugo was really tired now, he wanted to run home to his dad and have a massive plate of Gobbal stew and he wanted to sleep with Az. Az! Yugo suddenly had an idea. He pulled his little Tofu out of his pocket. "Az! Go home and get Dad. Bring him straight here. Be quick!" Yugo whispered as fast as he could. Az chirped once, turned around and flew as fast as his tiny wings could take him. Rani turned and grabbed Yugo by the fluffy tassel on his hat, scraping his wings and causing an immense amount of pain, making him scream in agony. Rani took a step back, shocked, but her mouth quickly curled into a cruel smile. She crouched down next to Yugo, fake sympathy written all over her face. "Aw, Yugo, did I hurt you? Better check twice!" she giggled as she pulled the tassel again, much harder this time. Yugo erupted into fresh screams, tears pouring down his face. "RANI! STOP!" he squealed as Rani looked at him with a confident smirk. "Oh, but Yugo, we're just starting to have fun! Don't you wanna play?" she pulled the tassel again, as hard as she possibly could, and it was all Yugo could do to keep his hat on. He cried and screamed, she pulled and pulled and pulledandpulledandpulled, fast and hard as she could. And every single time she did, Yugo wondered how no one could hear him, but the thought was always cut off by a fresh wave of pain. But just as Rani pulled the hardest, Alibert and Rani's father, Sothra, came running in. Both men stopped in surprise at what was happening. Yugo was crying and screaming, clutching his hat, while Rani, the sweetest girl in the village, was pulling on it with all her might, clearly causing him extreme pain. Rani was obviously enjoying it, but quickly stopped when she saw the two. "RANI! What, in the name of Eniripsa, are you doing? You had better have a good explanation for this!" Sothra asked, hands very firmly on his hips before Rani answered confidently "Yugo's hat was stuck on his head, and he needed some help getting it off. It looked like it really hurt, so I stopped pulling it off. But he said to keep going, so I did. I really never meant to hurt him. Really." Her face was angelically innocent, but her eyes were panicked and...cruel? Alibert pushed past Rani and picked Yugo up. "Oh, Yugo, what's wrong?" Alibert lowered his voice. "Is it your wings?" Yugo gave a small nod, then started crying harder. Alibert nodded and carried him back to Emelka. Yugo buried his head in the folds of his dad's tunic as they walked through the square, everyone was staring at him. It was just like his worst nightmares, but his hat was thankfully still firmly stuck on his head. As they entered the inn,

Yugo finally calmed down enough to talk. But he didn't. He ignored the questions of Sothra, Alibert and half the villagers who had followed them to the inn. He scoffed down a plate of Gobbol Stew and silently walked into his room. "Okay, okay everyone. Please, leave until morning at least. Yugo is in pain and needs rest." It took 15 minutes for Alibert to get everyone out. He walked up to Yugo, slightly anxious about how he would react to what had just happened. Yugo was sprawled on his bed, covers under him, and strangest of all, his hat was off. He was sleeping peacefully, and his wings looked just fine. Alibert smiled and tucked Yugo in, and ran down the stairs to serve more customers.
