ROLL TITLES
Scene 1: Rain Valley
[Track 1: The Other Half's Inside the Shark] Amy hears the gunfire. They approach a well.
AMY: Please, I'm not with them! I was tricked!
MORGAN: We don't have time or the resources to waste on shooting you. We'll just drown you.
AMY: Please, no, please, please! Where's the Doctor, I've got to find the Doctor!
MORGAN: I already told you, there ain't no Doctor here!
AMY: There's been some misunderstanding, please don't throw me down there!
Amy looks scared.
Scene 2: Rain Valley Outskirts
The Cacti continue to surround Rain Valley. The settlers fight back, terrified.
SETTLER: It's not working! We're going to die!
Their eyes widen with fear. Suddenly, the Cacti stop, inches away from the town.
Scene 3: Cave Opening
The Doctor has reached into Superious once more.
OLLIE: What are you doing?!
DOCTOR: Hopefully? Confusing it. If Superious wants your culture, why not give it the weirdest things? What about Twitter and Kim Kardashian? Oh, and Gangnam Style! Do you want a jelly baby? If you want this world, prepare for all the complexities on it! Thrift shops, McDonalds, the Olympics, YouTube, have it all!
SUPERIOUS: I...I...I…
Superious stammers.
DOCTOR: Okay, now to find a way out.
RORY: But James, he destroyed the tunnel.
DOCTOR: Yes, good point.
The Doctor looks to the walls, which are damp. He notices a thin stream of water breaking through. He grins.
DOCTOR: Gotcha.
Scene 4: Rain Valley
Amy is on the edge of the well, where Morgan is aiming a gun at her.
AMY: You won't fire that. You need to save resources against those things. I can help you, please.
One of the villagers run over.
AUSTIN: Stop!
Morgan turns around. Amy notices a sheriff badge on Austin's coat.
AUSTIN: What are you doing?
MORGAN: She led them to us, Sheriff.
AMY: I didn't mean to, I'm looking for the Doctor. He left to cure the cacti problem last night.
MORGAN: You can't have travelled across the desert unless being one of them!
AUSTIN: Unless she was tricked.
MORGAN: What? You seriously don't believe her, do you?
[Track 1 ends]
AUSTIN: I don't want to hand her to her death if she's innocent. Come with me. You, go help the others. They've stopped, so now you can get involved instead of acting like a coward and pretending to be too busy to die for your friends.
Austin and Amy walk off.
Scene 5: Cave Opening
The Doctor is using a large rock to carve a hole into the wall.
OLLIE: What the hell are you doing?
RORY: The water - I'm assuming the Doctor's looking for some sort of well or something.
OLLIE: There's a well at Rain Valley!
DOCTOR: Exactly! This water must be linked. We just go down here, and hopefully arrive at Rain Valley.
RORY: That's a wild assumption.
DOCTOR: Assumption? I never assume!
The Doctor looks up.
DOCTOR: Slight lie. Anyway, look! Hope you don't mind getting a bit dirty!
The Doctor crawls through a narrow cave. They look at each other before hesitantly following.
Scene 6: Office
[Track 2: The World Waits 0:00 - 2:38] A clock ticks. Amy is sat at a chair whilst Austin pours himself a whiskey. She notices the villagers watching her through the window. Austin clears his throat, catching her attention once again.
AUSTIN: So.
AMY: So.
AUSTIN: What's your business here?
AMY: The cacti, I've got friends who came here to help. But clearly, they didn't arrive.
AUSTIN: When did they leave?
AMY: Last night? Seven-ish.
AUSTIN: Your friends are almost definitely dead, then. No-one survives the desert at night.
AMY: I did.
AUSTIN: I think those Cacti tricked ya. For some reason, they didn't know how to find this place.
AMY: I got a map. I thought I could save the infected.
AUSTIN: Sorry for your loss.
AMY: They can't be dead.
There is a knock at the door.
AUSTIN: Come in.
One of the villagers runs in. There is a lot of commotion outside.
SETTLER: Sheriff! There's other visitors.
AUSTIN: Cacti?
SETTLER: No, earthly.
Austin and Amy run out.
Scene 7: Rain Valley
A few people are climbing out of the well. Amy's eyes light up with delight as she recognises-
AMY: Doctor! Rory!
Amy and Rory hug, but she steps back.
AMY: Ugh, you're soaking! Where've you been?
RORY: Underground. Listen, we've found these-
AUSTIN: Show us your skin!
A few settlers raise shotguns towards them. They put their hands up.
RORY: Don't shoot!
DOCTOR: Skin?
OLLIE: It's a precaution, they want to know if we're infected.
DOCTOR: Right, yes.
Ollie and Pete roll up their sleeves to show their clean skin. The Doctor and Rory do the same.
DOCTOR: Look, not infected, see?
SALLY: Wait, where's-Where's James?
PETE: I'm sorry. He saved our lives.
Sally bursts into tears, and a few villagers console her.
DOCTOR: Superious, they've been directing the cacti to find Rain Valley, why Rain Valley?
MORGAN: Superious?
RORY: Alien intelligence invading the Earth using plants. It's a whole thing, you get it.
MORGAN: Oh.
DOCTOR: Something's making them focus on this town specifically. I need a records office or library-
OLLIE: A library? We got one this way.
DOCTOR: Thanks, Ollie. Just what I need! I could also do with some fish fingers, anybody got some?
AUSTIN: Just a second! Who are you?
DOCTOR: Help. We can stop this invasion before it gets out of hand. I've confused Superious for now, we have about...one and a half hours. So let's get to work.
AMY: I'll explain what's happened to the Sheriff.
RORY: I'll come with you.
The Doctor and Ollie walk off to the library, whilst Amy and Rory rejoin Austin in his office.
Scene 8: Office
Austin squints his eyes.
AUSTIN: Say that again?
RORY: Something's come from another planet. It wants to take over this one using the plants.
AMY: Why here though? Using the plants, it's not like there's much to possess. This area's pretty empty.
RORY: Well- Perhaps that's it. What if Superious takes over the quiet places and then sabotages the British Empire?
AUSTIN: They're a bit late, then. The British Empire left months ago.
RORY: Yeah, but the Doctor said-Never mind.
AMY: What is it?
RORY: I'll tell you later.
AUSTIN: Well, how do we fight them then?
RORY: I don't know that yet, that's what the Doctor's working out.
AUSTIN: I need some air.
Austin walks out.
AMY: So? What is it?
RORY: The British Empire are coming back next month - perhaps they're going to pass through this town?
AMY: It's a quiet, backwater place, they wouldn't notice.
RORY: We should tell the Doctor.
AMY: I'll go do that, you make sure that the villagers are okay.
RORY: Okay.
Amy and Rory kiss, before she walks out. [Track 2 ends]
Scene 9: Library
The Doctor's chucking books off the shelf. [Track 3: Lifeboat]
DOCTOR: Nope. Nope. Nope. Ooh, nice. But nope.
OLLIE: Sorry, what are you looking for?
DOCTOR: Records of stuff falling from the sky, you know.
OLLIE: Perhaps it could link to the crystals.
DOCTOR: Eh? What crystals?
OLLIE: The crystals in the cave, by Superious.
Ollie gets a book and hands it to the Doctor.
OLLIE: It's one of the reasons why we chose this site - the crystals are supposed to have power beyond belief, but we just can't work out how to harness this power.
The Doctor flicks through pages of text and diagrams.
DOCTOR: Interesting.
OLLIE: What's even more interesting is the man who wrote that book 20 years ago. My grandfather. Archie Reynolds.
DOCTOR: Why, what's interesting about him?
OLLIE: The ones he found, they were on the surface. Yet he was certain that, theorised that there were more powerful ones underground.
DOCTOR: And there were, we saw them.
The Doctor looks to the middle of the book.
DOCTOR: Yes, here.
OLLIE: He spent ages trying to find some - then he disappeared. He never finished the book.
DOCTOR: Disappeared, of course he did. The description from these crystals, it's so blatantly obvious. I can't believe I didn't work it out before.
OLLIE: Never saw him again.
The Doctor looks at Ollie, realising, and stopping.
DOCTOR: Oh, right. Uh, sorry. You must miss him.
OLLIE: Don't remember him that much, but...yeah. So, what are they?
DOCTOR: They're psychoactive energy enhancers. That's what attracted your ancestors. Superious was sending out a mental distress signal, calling out to your grandfather. His disappearance is connected to Superious. Had the plans for the town been finalised when he went missing?
OLLIE: No.
DOCTOR: It makes sense now. Superious was collecting intel for this planet, and what did he find? A man who was trying to find Rain Valley.
[Track 3 ends]
OLLIE: That's why we hadn't had any infected arrive at the town until yesterday.
DOCTOR: The infected don't retain their memories unless they've had direct contact.
[Track 4: Dinosaurs on a Spaceship/Pteryodactyls 0:40 - 1:44] There is a clap of thunder outside, yet as the Doctor runs to the windows, he sees no clouds.
DOCTOR: What's that? Ollie?
Ollie stands still and is screaming at an A# pitch.
DOCTOR: Ollie, can you hear me? Ollie!
The Doctor watches as a white light coarses through his veins. He makes his way towards the door.
Scene 10: Rain Valley
He runs outside and notices the same thing has happened to the villagers. Amy and Rory run over. The camera circles them as they talk.
AMY: What's happening to them?
DOCTOR: Psychoactive background radiation. This village and anyone in it for a prolonged time is connected to Superious. Superious has been looking for Rain Valley, it absorbed someone who was trying to find somewhere to build it.
AMY: That's why Superious didn't know where it was.
DOCTOR: Exactly, and being around Superious for a while would leave some effect. It'll wear off after a while, but we can work out what this means.
AMY: We can?
DOCTOR: Superious is regaining control. We have about an hour left, I didn't realise his processing speed. They're clever than I thought.
AMY: What do we do to stop them doing this?
DOCTOR: We need to run interference. Ollie said there were some psychic crystals above ground. If we can use them to create a negative wavelength, it'll break their connection.
AMY: Where are these crystals?
DOCTOR: They've got mass amounts of power, so somewhere secure.
RORY: A bank?
DOCTOR: It could be there, come on!
They run off down the street, passing the civilians. [Track 5 ends]
Scene 11: Bank Entrance
They run in.
DOCTOR: So, the British Empire are going to be infected by Superious?
RORY: Pretty swish.
DOCTOR: Try in the back.
Rory jumps over the desk. The Doctor looks out the door.
AMY: Doctor?
DOCTOR: I need to go back and confront Superious again.
AMY: What? Now?
DOCTOR: We can't let them build power.
AMY: That's too dangerous and you know it!
DOCTOR: Like any other day, then.
AMY: Okay, suppose you get down there. What are you going to do when that happens?
DOCTOR: A thing.
AMY: A thing?
DOCTOR: A clever thing.
AMY: Oh, come on!
DOCTOR: I'll work it out when I get there.
Rory walks back holding a large crystal.
RORY: This is it.
DOCTOR: Good man.
The Doctor takes out the sonic and it whirrs.
Scene 12: Cave Opening
[Track 5: Emotions Get The Better of Him 3:26 - 3:56] There is a loud bang.
Scene 13: Bank Entrance
The floor rumbles. The three all steady themselves.
RORY: Uh...please don't say that is what I think that was.
DOCTOR: Switching on the crystal boosted Superious' more we do, the stronger it gets.
AMY: It's like it's always one step ahead of us.
DOCTOR: Okay, just got to change the wavelength to negative.
The Doctor places his hand on the crystal. Rory runs to the doors to look at the villagers.
RORY: Nothing's changing.
DOCTOR: Psychic reversal is harder than it looks, a bit of hush, thank you!
Scene 14: Rain Valley Outskirts
The cacti all reawaken. The villagers all stand up straight, clearly under Superious' influence.
Scene 15: Rain Valley
Both cacti and humans lumber towards the bank slowly.
Scene 16: Bank Entrance
Rory whimpers.
RORY: They're coming!
DOCTOR: Nearly got it! I need to channel excess artron energy into this...it'll-Aargh!
A fluctuating blue energy flows through the Doctor's hand into the crystal. He falls back, dazed, and Amy catches him.
DOCTOR: Thanks, Pond!
RORY: They've stopped.
DOCTOR: Negative shockwave using the power of the time vortex. I should do that more often!
Amy and Rory stare at him, their eyes wide.
DOCTOR: What?
[Track 5 ends] Suddenly, a loud screech, deafens them. They cover their ears.
SUPERIOUS (oc): So you countered my little trick. Well done.
RORY: Seriously, what is it with this dude and telepathy?!
SUPERIOUS (oc): You may have worked out my plans, but now I know who you are...Time Lord. You've connected to my psychoactive energy enhancer.
RORY: What?
DOCTOR: Magic crystal. I'm limiting your power, Superious! Soon, there'll be nothing left of you! How about we have a chat, this is very painful.
SUPERIOUS: Very well. Send a sonic signal and I will come.
The screech stops.
DOCTOR: Okay, you two wait up here, whilst I antagonise an alien being hell bent on conquering your world!
AMY: This is stupid!
DOCTOR: Never stopped me before.
The Doctor waves at them and runs off.
RORY: What's he going to do?
AMY: "A clever thing".
RORY: He's going to get us all killed, isn't he?
AMY: Yep. Let's go help the villagers.
Amy and Rory run to the villagers.
Scene 17: Rain Valley
[Track 6: Run, Sexy] Morgan is collecting water from the well. The Doctor runs over.
DOCTOR: You, what was your name?
MORGAN: Uh- Morgan.
DOCTOR: Morgan, the crystals, they power the town, right?
MORGAN: Right.
DOCTOR: Where is the strongest point of power?
MORGAN: The station, the train station. Our ancestors worked out that the trains were more efficient around that area.
DOCTOR: Superious' knowledge would be broadcasting to nearby drivers, that could work. That's the place - make sure there's no one around the station. I'm going to face Superious there.
MORGAN: Me? You want me?
DOCTOR: Yep, quickly as possible.
The Doctor runs off, and Morgan dubiously hurries after him.
Scene 18: Station
Morgan is ushering people out, whilst he looks to the Doctor through the window, who waits on the platform, using the sonic.
Scene 19: Platform
The lone horse brays, tied up to a pole. The Doctor beckons Morgan to join him. He edges out.
MORGAN: All clear?
DOCTOR: For now. Take the horse and get out of here.
MORGAN: You sure?
DOCTOR: Go on. See you later.
The Doctor feels the ground shake.
DOCTOR: Go now!
Morgan jumps on the horse and gallops away. Suddenly, Superious breaks through the dry dirt on the other side of the tracks. The Doctor grimaces.
DOCTOR: Hello, again. Nice weather, don't you think?
Morgan turns back to the Doctor, his hand on his pistol, but shakes his head and continues on. Superious' shape shimmers and grows into a humanoid model. An older man appears, with white pupils and an ivory aura bouncing off his skin..
DOCTOR: Archie Reynolds, I presume?
SUPERIOUS: I took his form, and my power shall spread to influence this rock.
DOCTOR: If it's a rock, why do you want it? Who are your orders from? The Elite?
SUPERIOUS: Correct.
DOCTOR: Who are the Elite? Tell me. Why does everyone know about them?
SUPERIOUS: A certain collective has been assembled to conquer Earth throughout its history. There are two other invasions coming. What this is for, we don't know.
DOCTOR: Well, everyone's failed so far.
SUPERIOUS: As predicted. But you're getting tired, old man.
DOCTOR: Have you looked in the mirror lately?
SUPERIOUS: Joke while you can, for this world will fall into darkness.
DOCTOR: Bring it on.
Unexpectedly, a javelin tied to a rope cuts through Superious' arm. They phase through it and the javelin falls to the ground. Native Americans climb down from the roof of the station, armed with big, pointed sticks, and start to attack him with expert precision. A few slide under his legs, swiping them and causing him to topple over. Others hit him in the stomach.
DOCTOR: Oh, hello.
The leader of the tribe pushes the door back to the floor and aims a spear at him.
DOCTOR: Was it something I said?
SUPERIOUS: Idiots.
A big blast repels the Americans. Superious gets back up and charges towards the Doctor. They raise their arms and lowers them swiftly, about to hit him, but the Doctor holds them back; his hands fighting Superious' strength.
SUPERIOUS: I will access your mind! You will be one of us!
The Americans run over and use their sticks to support the Doctor. They knock Superious back onto the tracks.
SUPERIOUS: You think you can stop me with sticks?
DOCTOR: No. But we can stop you with that!
The Doctor and the Americans are looking away. Superious turns to see what they are looking to - Morgan is driving a train, it's engine power on max, thrusting Into Superious' body. It screams and disperses into shards of white particles. [Track 6 ends] The Doctor laughs. Amy and Rory jump off the train, breathing heavily. [Track 7: Our Town's Little Protector]
DOCTOR: Perfect timing, Morgan!
MORGAN: Thank you, sir.
RORY: Next time, perhaps get someone who actually can drive a steam train.
Superious' dissolved body is spread out on the floor. The Doctor goes over to it.
SUPERIOUS: This isn't the end for the Elite. We are more powerful than you understand. Something is coming. You may have won now, but you cannot protect this Earth for long.
DOCTOR: I disagree.
SUPERIOUS: Your time is running out. You are nearly at Trenzalore.
DOCTOR: Trenzalore? What do you know about Trenzalore?
Superious fades into the dust and the rocks of the dry earth. He frowns.
DOCTOR: What does the Elite know about Trenzalore?
The Doctor looks out to the landscape, then back to the Americans.
DOCTOR: Thank you.
TRIBE LEADER: We have fought our own land for months. Yet now, you have helped us defeat the menace, and we can focus on the real invaders to our lands. I apologise for the violence I forced upon you, I was mistaken.
DOCTOR: Ah, it's okay.
AMY: Is that it, then? The end of Superious?
DOCTOR: Not entirely - Superious was part of a group wanting to destroy this planet - like the Sinister Six! There's more coming.
RORY: Better get back to the TARDIS, then! Long train ride home!
MORGAN: Uh, I can take you if you need to.
AMY: No, no, we're good!
RORY: Yeah, no thanks.
DOCTOR: Well, he has some experience.
Amy and Rory groan, whilst the Doctor chuckles.
DOCTOR: Thanks for the help, Morgan.
MORGAN: I started this day as a coward. You've shown me to be a hero. Thank you.
DOCTOR: Back to Mexico, we go! Come along, Ponds!
The Doctor, Amy and Rory climb aboard the train, whilst Morgan starts to fuel it up again.
MORGAN: Next stop - Mexico!
The train starts to move. The three poke their heads out of the window and wave goodbye to the Americans, then to Rain Valley in the distance. The Natives return their farewells, and the train disappears into the sun. [Track 7 ends]
