Cat Tails I

Xaramuk | A devil of the Old Faction
"They killed one of us, and they still wander around the Underworld, what a disaster," Jallzen whispered with a fierce look that drew her incredibly powerful aura.
"But the devil killed isn't from the new Devil Society, maybe those mongrels from the Devil Society deserve it, don't you think so, Xaramuk?" Bagrul said.
I was drinking my beer as my underlings discussed the situation regarding the cats. Or should I say, Nekoshou, a distant cousin of the Nekomata tribe. Differently from the latter, the Nekoshou lived here in the Underworld, away from the humans. While the Nekomata were all inside of the Kansai Region of Japan in the real world, hiding behind the powerful Youkai Faction.
The Nekoshou were here at our doorstep, just waiting for their demise.
I responded to their question. "The civil war has nothing to do with this. An outsider race has killed a devil, that's all that matters. Even if we are in conflict with each other, no other race messes with us, devils."
It quelled their fighting for a while, a Nekoshou had done the unthinkable and killed her King, a man from the new Devil Society, and even the old faction was calling out for blood after this issue was brought to light. This problem united all Devils for a common issue, the utter extermination of the evil race of the Nekoshous.
Of course, the new Devil Society would not dare go to war right now, but it would conveniently look the other way if the small Nekoshou population disappears in the near future.
Some younger Peerages of the new devils were now on hunting season in secret from the wider society, and some devils of the old faction wanted in on the carnage that was about to happen. And the serving game was Nekoshou lives on the table, I wonder how much their hide sells on the black market.
Maybe some live slaves will be a better deal. But I don't want to bring any live ones, I want to kill them all.
And both Jallzen and Bagrul agree with me.
We were born in this faction after the civil war and trained since young to kill the super devils on the other side. However, we weren't there yet in terms of strength, the maximum rank we are now is comparable to the Ultimate Class Devils of the New Faction. Still, we are not to be taken lightly, and exterminating a single race should be a done deal, an easy population to slaughter.
Now the hunt begins, and I want to kill a lot of cats.
On the plains of Sekh, we were ready for combat, with three buildings destroyed and nothing but rubble. Sekh was a region of the underworld where the damn cats were located. They had fortified their defenses, brought their warriors, and were preparing for a siege. And yet, so many pairs were interested in their downfall.
The New Devils, the Old Faction, and finally, some of Hades minions were all here trying to get their fill of murder.
There were some rogue parties just interested in the killing and murdering of thousands.
Regardless of how prepared these cats were, the invaders would massacre each and every one of them.
"... And yet, you do not understand. Why do you defend them?"
I asked the boy beneath my feet. Pressing against his organs, making them explode with the pressure of my unrivaled strength, the metal soles helped further the damage on the boy's skin and muscles.
Little Riser Phenex, the third son of the Phenex Pillar family. What was strange was that he had been here, trying to protect the building in front of us, where 12 of these cats were hiding. A fringe location, not within the protective circle of their Nekoshou Warriors. Not two days after the invasion of the plains of Sekh, this fool had arrived, a child meddling in a war, this was a cosmic joke.
Jallzen, a female devil from the old faction, had peach-colored hair and red eyes that glowed with her power.
"Why haven't you killed him, Xaramuk?"
"He's an important piece for Devil Society. No need to kill him now."
I then, counter to my own words, stabbed The young 7-year-old boy on the shoulder, and traced his green blade down to his arm, cutting the crevices.
"Argh." The boy groaned in pain, and then I removed his arm from his socket for complaining. I threw his arm to the grass nearby, the wind blew as the blood pooled on the dirt, the blood of a phoenix… huh?
A child charging into unneeded trouble, thinking that he could be a hero, what an ignorant idiot. Kids can't make a difference, no matter how hard they try. Kids are irrelevant and a waste of space until they reach adulthood. Brats can't do anything right to save their lives.
Don't you think so, Riser?
You fucking idiot… a noble child who has everything, status, money, and a future bride, and now you squander it all by going on dark alleyways with an idiotic sense of justice.
The little phoenix is getting burned is all I say.
Jallzen was dragging two women and four children. They were hiding in their closets. Jallzen had a clear tube of glass impaling their calves. They were linked to her body... Jallzen's magic was exceedingly strong.
Bagrul was a tough man with dark red hair. His arms were like the trunk of a tree.
"You should just kill the boy." Bagrul dragged the two fathers, two families barricading themselves. Jallzen had defeated them, not Bagrul.
"Did his flames hurt you much? Hahahahaha. Imagine getting hurt from a child's attacks… Ahahahaha..." Jallzen laughed at her own ally.
"Stop laughing, you felt it as well. If not for Xaramuk, we'd be dead." Bragrul complained before her, before being scared when her face darkened, and her next words came from her lips.
"At least you'd be, I could kill this child with my eyes closed." Jallzen fired back, Bragul just grunted in displeasure and went away after being scared.
Riser was left there in the flowing grass, the flow of blood aided by the harsh wind… bleeding from an arm socket with its limb removed.
There was one woman seven months pregnant, Jallzen summoned a clear tube from her hand that glowed aquamarine. It was almost like those noodles that help people float on private pools. However, this tube-like thing went towards the woman's stomach as some sort of attack.
The Nekoshou woman cried as the clear tube pressed on her pregnant belly, and with a smirk on Jallzens face, the tube rotated, like a boring machine used to excavate mountains.
Everyone could see what came next. However...
Pieces of clear glass broke off, stabbing the woman as her stomach was literally being blended by Jallzen's magic as innumerable pieces of tiny glass embedded themselves into the woman's body and the nearby dirt, the glass was so sharp it went through the ground like it was a solid blade going through water.
Both the baby inside and the women were no more as a column of blood and sticky tissue was shot in the air like a grizzled fountain of gore and putrid smells and landed on Riser's face, pieces of an unborn baby, and pieces of a dead mother. Riser spat some of the blood off. However, the brat could do nothing else after suffering a complete defeat.
Jallzen's magic is sure to be something else to see.
As I witnessed this, I formed another blade and then slashed one of these cats in the crotch, it was one of the young girls. Bagrul sure did like seeing them bleed from their asses which was sometimes funny.
Bagrul went for their limbs instead, removing two of them, and letting them scamper about, running on the grassy hills before falling from exhaustion and severe blood loss. The men, however, tried to fight us. But I impaled them both on my summoned spears and then cut off their heads with a swipe of one of my summoned blades.
We left the idiot kid there, without one of his limbs. Devils from the new faction were still important, it's their shitty ideology of reincarnating people from other species that grinds my gears. Devils getting help from other races…?
What a foolish talk, we should be fine without any help, devils reincarnating people of other races is just something so ridiculous it makes me mad just thinking about it… aah, I want to kill another cat to stop this frustrating feeling I'm having. Sometimes their hypocrisy is so infuriating it fucking kills me.
The trio went away after massacring the family. Leaving a broken Riser behind, as he slowly healed off the wounds.

Riser | A fool trying to stop a genocide
I looked up to the sky, and then I breathed hard. With it, I smelled the blood of the family now slaughtered. And now I sighed as I realized that I failed massively.
When the news came that a reincarnated Nekoshou murdered a king, I knew that tensions would rise between the two races as time went on. However, the devils are much fiercer and more vengeful than I realized, I thought they were a slightly more emotional race than humans were but... not this…
I do not know what the answer could be but I am just a 7-year-old kid, I can't do much on the political scale.
Begging my parents would not work at all since they do not even consider me to be a person who is worthy of attention. They only look towards profit and both my older brothers delivered that in spades, you could say that my brother Rosir is adept at turning my parents against me for whatever reason. And things have gotten worse over the years.
And so what should a 7-year-old do when faced with this injustice happening right at his doorstep?
I do know what they should do, most kids would probably be at home, probably complaining about it to their parents to do something instead.
I chose to go here, I have a lot of power, and I am older by 13 years, I thought maybe I could make a change. However, I did not expect this part of the underworld to be filled with this many strong enemies. Xaramuk and Jallzen were dangerous beyond belief, I was frankly unprepared.
"You can come out now, they're long gone."
"My—My family, mom?"
The one coming out as a teenager, a boy of about 13 years old. I couldn't protect the two families, but I was able to hide this one from the conflict.
"They killed them all. THEY KILLED THEM!"
The little teenager cried out as his eyes turned red and he started absorbing natural energy from the ground and the wind around him. His fur all stood up and he became a very hateful monster of revenge as he cradled his previously pregnant mom and little sister. The fetus wasn't that far off, removed by that woman Jallzen with her "surgical procedure". Some of their parts even landed on me.
This was only the beginning of this conflict. The Old and New factions of Devils, a few Fallen Angels and Hades's minions were all encroaching on this land.
All of them single-mindedly wanting a full genocide, and the wider supernatural society conveniently turned their eyes away, a few savages were the cause not us, and they could all pretend they were civilized.
"I'm gonna destroy them. I'll murder them ALL!"
The teenager cried out.
As for me, I slowly crawled out, to see if some of the Phenex tears could save the victims, but there was no reaction. These two families were dead. Even the little girls were dead, bled by a cut to the crotch, breaking the hip bone as well. Blood and parts came pouring out as squishy sounds were still being made. I sighed and left the bodies there. And went to the house to search for anyone else, but this was it.
The boy's anger was reasonable, but he was ready to go get his revenge right now, not realizing the three devils that killed his family were so far above in power it wasn't funny.
"I hope you're not seeking revenge—all you're going to do is be the next victim on their plate," I said so quietly after much deliberation to the young Nekoshou who had survived.
"Why did you save me? You could have hidden my little sister or my pregnant mother."
"Don't know, maybe it's because you remind me of the past. Then again, maybe it was for nothing after all." I said as my lost limb regrew out of the socket. Regeneration was key, and these Nekoshou had some of it using their Senjutsu. Though, not enough to survive the onslaught on their species.
The teenager calmed down, yet he still absorbed more and more natural energy. "Thanks… At least... you tried to save my family."
"I don't want to be thanked for a failed job."
The teenager was able to get a chuckle despite the whole situation around us.
I used [Observe] to get his name Haru Matess…. Haru was it?
"If this didn't happen, maybe we could have been friends."
"I don't care for friends, and I don't want to even know the name of people that don't learn, and charge to their deaths." I turned around, spatting at the boy's recklessness.
"But you came here, recklessly charging to die in our stead."
The boy named Haru Matess shot back at me.
I didn't answer anymore, I hate people who charge to their deaths, and I hate people who point out my hypocrisy even more.
The boy did a war cry, he consumed so much natural energy that his body would break down in a few hours, an even more horrifying death than radiation. I could see that his DNA was destroyed, and his liver and kidneys would shut down. His skin would pop from the muscle tissue, and he would die before today even ended. Another fool, desperately charging to end his life.
"Why seek revenge for your dead family, anyway?"
I silently asked the charging Nekoshou teenager, Haru didn't answer. He was already rushing through the thicket, going after the killers who murdered his family, another idiot.
"Family... huh?"
I did not have a "family". Not in this life, not in my previous life.
"..."
I felt the wind in my skin, as I was surrounded by corpses.
"…"

Haru Matess | A teen Nekoshou.
Wasn't that kid the weird one?
A devil trying to save us is an unbelievable sight. Even more, a kid younger than I am.
Talk about how I am an embarrassment compared to this kid, a completely mediocre son to my parents when compared to what this kid tried today.
What has the world come to?
Kids don't get to decide, kids don't do anything. And yet, a kid tried to save us, the sight was so comical it would have made me laugh, if not for the way my family was murdered.
We knew that things were worsening between the Devil Society and the Nekoshou after all that happened, but we didn't realize that some of the devils and other groups were only using this as an excuse to murders us all.
We informed ourselves after the hatred began, the two Nekoshou that took part in the incident were now known to us. They had a devil as a father and a Nekoshou as a mother. So the two, Kuroka and Shirone, were more Devils than Nekoshou. They were raised by the devils, not by our community, they had nothing to do with us.
And yet, because of their association with our race, Devil Society is staying quiet, while some bloodthirsty groups are killing us.
We didn't deserve any of it, we are just a convenient scapegoat that devils and others here can vent their frustration and violent tendencies on.
Could there be some other way that this could have been resolved?
Wasn't the leader of the devils a good working man?
Why did they have to target my family?
As I asked these questions, my body was breaking down. This is a consequence of not knowing how to handle the large amounts of natural energy flowing in my body. We are users of Senjutsu but I am no warrior, I am just a kid trying to get more power to avenge my family. My mother was pregnant, and my little sister was there with her, and they got murdered without any semblance of empathy from their murderers.
We were just living here, not bothering anyone… then why?
My tears fell, not knowing if it was because my skin was peeling off along with blood, or if it was because of the painful reminders that my whole family died. My father tried to fight them off, but the enemy was just too strong. My father was just a normal worker, not some warrior that trained since birth, and they enjoyed torturing him, those bastards.
"In the end, it just takes one thing to wreck your life…"
The devils were all hypocrites, saying they changed after the civil war. Only to allow things like these to happen, right in their borders.
Still, that kid had saved me back then, hiding me… Normally you would save either my little sister or my pregnant mother, isn't this how films go?
Nobody even cares about an unruly teenager like me, people like me are usually expendable in these sorts of situations, right? If he cared about my life, then I must apologize.
I know that I am marching towards my death, but staying away from my family is soul-crushing. If I can get one or two of them down with me, then that's fine. I'm not holding out on hope. I probably will be killed without accomplishing much, or anything. I'm not a warrior, and I'm not the protagonist of a revenge story, even the sudden powerup moment has left me with wounds all over my body, so painful that I'm crumbling.
I'm just a kid.
Just like him…
Hahahahahaha…
I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.
Dad, Mom, Leiko, I—

Riser | A fool trying to stop a genocide
I cremated the bodies of the two families with my flames of life, but they did not resurrect. My flames did not offer much of anything, but some comfort that a creature known as a phoenix had sent them to the afterlife. Strange, since we're in a version of hell... For those in the supernatural world like these people, where even is the afterlife?
I found the Nekoshou teenager later on, in some shallow water. Haru's body was tortured and almost unrecognizable.
I flamed my white fire and cremated his broken body, turning him into white pearly ash just like with his family and their friendly neighbors. And I then scattered their ashes. May they find some peace in the cosmic flow of life.
"Goodbye. I wasn't able to do much for any of you."
I said so, silently, as the pretty ash flowed through the winds of the underworld. Being forgotten by everyone, even their killers would eventually forget what they did to them.
How many more bodies would I have to cremate until this was over?
Their whole race?
No…
I won't let it end like this...
The grass felt the touch of the flames of wrath.
And the hatred of the Nekoshou poured within him.

Riser is a not-so-great guy, but he has gone through many things in both his lives, now he doesn't care for many of the leading powers of the DxD world.

This is a fanfiction story—I don't care about correct facts from canon. If you want a canon-following story, why the hell did you pick a crossover AU story to read?
I'll be putting an AU warning on the first chapter because there are so many people complaining about me not following all the canon facts and trivia they love.

Author's notes
X✹X
The beginning of the massacre, this will not be an easy arc to follow.
Since I'm scattering my arc all over, this one will be revisited many times. Some say that the Nekoshou race doesn't exist, but I think I told enough times that canon events don't matter, I'm just using the world and setting if you wag your fingers all excitedly and tell me canon facts all I'm going to do is laugh at you. Next will be the intro to Fuyuki's grail war...Yes, a Fate/Zero retelling. And it will be quite different as well. In the next few chapters, I will be focusing entirely on telling the stories of the Queen and Knight. The Pawn and Bishop and Rook arcs will be happening later on.
