Chapter 3: Found

Edward's POV

I had to get a handle on emotions. It was hard. Right now all I wanted to do was leave school and go confront the Denalis. Make some sense of all this madness.

I watched my daughter as she headed off to her next class. My daughter. It was hard to look at this teenage girl and know that she was my daughter. The very last time I saw her she had the physical appearance of a five year old human girl.

I still remember the day she went missing very vividly.

I was in the garage with Rosalie who was working on my Volvo and giving it a tune up when suddenly I heard a loud scream coming from the forest. It was Bella. Something was wrong. Something was very wrong. Without even thinking about it I ran to the forest looking for my wife and daughter.

I found Bella alone and panicking. My daughter was nowhere to be found. "She's gone Edward! She's gone! I can't find her anywhere!"

"Bella what's wrong? Who is gone?"

"She is! She's gone!"

It only took a fraction of a second to figure out who she was talking about. Nessie was gone. I tried to remain calm for Bella's sake but internally I was panicking just as much as she was.

I listened for Nessie's thoughts but the forest was eerily quiet. I searched everywhere and my daughter was just gone.

Jacob got the packs involved as soon as we told him. With my family and the wolves involved in the search we quickly covered a wide range of area including Forks, Port Angeles, Seattle, and eventually the entire state of Washington.

It didn't make any sense. It was as if she'd vanished off the face of the Earth altogether. But who could get past a family of vampires and a pack of wolves to kidnap her?

When we didn't find her we quickly told our friends all over the world to keep an eye out for her. Even the Volturi told us they'd let us know if they ever saw her. Initially we thought the Volturi were the culprits but when we stormed their castle right away I knew they were innocent. Their thoughts told me that this was the first time they had heard of he disappearance.

Seconds turned into minutes, minutes turned into hours, hours turned into days, days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months, and months turned into years. Time was passing and the more time that passed the more I has begun to lose hope that we would ever find Nessie again.

Until something happened. Something that would change everything. It had been years since we had seen the Denalis and we wanted to come visit.

I knew something weird was going on from the beginning. Tanya's less than enthusiastic response when we told them we wanted to visit was the first clue. It wasn't until Tanya asked Bella to shield their thoughts that I really began to wonder what was going on. Jasper even said that they'd been way more anxious than usual.

I remembered how clean their house smelled when we got there. Their house smelled like it had been doused in bleach and a million other cleaning products. It was way too clean. I hadn't connected the dots at that time. I knew they were some secret they were desperate trying to keep. I never once imagined that it would be this though.

I tried to stay calm. I had to keep it together at least until after school. Bella knew something was wrong. I caught her giving me worried looks several times throughout the day. But she would wait until we were alone to ask me what was wrong.

I kept an eye on my daughter all day. She was worried about some girls that had been bullying her. From what I had gathered from various teachers mind as that none of those girls in particular had shown up for school today.

At lunch time Nessie bought her food and then went to sit with her sister and their friends. Her sister seemed like a nice enough girl. It was hard to listen to my daughter's thoughts earlier and see everything she and her siblings were going through. It was really hard when I thought about how unnecessary their struggle was. If she were with us she'd be well taken care of.

At least we had found her though. If Emmett hadn't come across her scent in town a few days ago we would've never known. He tracked her scent all the way to her house and saw her with his own eyes. Nessie never saw him though as Emmett managed to stay hidden.

It was hard to believe that after all these years we had found her. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it in Emmett's thoughts first.

I only had to suffer through two more classes before we could leave school and I could confront those traitors I had once considered family.

At last the final bell of the day rang and I walked a little too quickly out of that room. I stayed quiet as I drove. I could only feel my anger growing. Once I saw Tanya outside of the house I could not contain my anger any longer.

I got out of the car and threw myself at her and slammed her into the side of the house much to the absolute shock of my family.

"Why Tanya?!" I roared.

"Edward what are you doing?!" Bella shouted.

"Edward stop!" the others yelled.

"What's going on?!"

"How could you do this to us Tanya?! How could you not tell me that my own daughter has been living her for the last five years?!"

I could feel Jasper's attempts to calm me down as he and Emmett tried to remove me from Tanya.

"What are you talking about Edward?" Bella was confused.

"She knew our daughter was here!" I shouted. "and don't you dare deny it Tanya. Nessie told me earlier that you all have been friends with her for the last five years! Why didn't any of you say anything?!"

"What?" everyone said at almost exactly the same time. Rosalie, Alice, Emmett, Jasper, and Bella looked at Tanya.

"Because it was for the best. That's why,"

Somehow I grew even angrier. "For the best?! Keeping a daughter away from her own family was for the best?!"

"Listen Edward," she pleaded. "She was dying of cancer. She was going to die. We thought it would be better not to tell you where she was because we wanted to spare you the pain of losing her again. We thought we would help by looking after her. Being friends with her," her weak attempts to explain herself made me more angry. I was dangerously close to losing control.

"and when she got better we knew you wouldn't understand why we chose not to tell you about her. So we decided to still keep her a secret,"

"How dare you?!" Bella growled. "How dare you keep my own daughter a secret from me!"

"She and her siblings visit a lot. We look after them as best as we can. But not telling you all was for the best. That's why we even erased all traces of her scent when we knew you-"

Just like that Bella and I lost all control of ourselves.
