Chapter 13: Darkness

Nessie's POV

I listened to Edward and got in the car. I didn't look back. I didn't want to see what he would do with those rapists. Instead I thought about what he said. No one even thinks about hurting my daughter and lives to talk about it. What was that supposed to mean? As far as I knew none of the Cullens had any biological children of their own. Even if Edward did have a child what would that have to do with what happened to me?

I was startled when the driver's door suddenly opened. "Are you alright?" Edward asked me as he sat down. I could see how genuinely worried he was.

"I'm okay," at least physically I was okay. Mentally I felt like I was going to pieces. Maybe I'd heard Edward wrong earlier. Maybe I was just so mentally screwed up right now that my brain misinterpreted what he said.

"You're not mentally screwed up," he said seriously. "and you did hear me correctly your brain did not misinterpret anything,"

I froze. What the actual fuck just happened here? It's like he knew exactly-"

"Exactly what you were thinking?" he finished. "I know because I can hear everything that you're thinking. Oh and don't ever curse like that again not even in your mind,"

"How-"

"I know you have a lot of questions and I think that it's time I explained everything. Well it'll be easier if I show you instead. You won't believe me if I tell you,"

"What are you talking about?" I was getting more confused and annoyed by the second.

"I'm done with keeping secrets from you. There is things you need to know about my family and yourself. But it will be a lot easier to explain after you see for yourself,"

My stomach was churning. Maybe I was slipping into shock. I didn't know for sure though I wasn't a doctor.

"Everything will be fine," I heard Edward say.

"How do you do that?"

"Read my mind," the words sounded crazy when I said them out loud but the evidence was right in front of me. He was answering all of my thoughts which was seriously freaking me out.

"Where are we going anyways?"

"To the forest,"

"In the dark? Why now? Can't this wait until morning?"

"No and it's not that dark yet. There's still a little sunlight out,"

I thought about it and he was right. This couldn't wait until morning. Knowing me I would be up all night wondering.

But still this made me a little anxious. Other than murders and rapists who took teenage girls into the forest at night? I shook my head. Edward hadn't done a single thing to make me think he was dangerous. He'd just saved me from dangerous people. But he himself was not dangerous.

"I really wish that you would stop thinking that I'm not dangerous," he almost sounded angry.

"Are you trying to say that you are dangerous then? Because I don't believe that for a second,"

"Watch," was all he said.

Watch I did. He sniffed the air but what he was trying to smell I wasn't sure. "Stay back," he ordered. I didn't move a muscle.

Then I did smell something. It was something I had never smelled before. I heard a strange beating sound. Then I saw a mountain lion emerge from hiding. The animal didn't see us.

I could hear it's heart beating. The smell coming off the animal was good. My throat burned in a way it never had before. It wasn't like the sore throats I got when I was sick. This was worse. Somehow my body knew what it needed before my mind did.

I ran faster than I ever had before. Faster than I ever had before. The animal turned around just as I launched myself at him. I got my arms around him but he wasn't going to give up without a fight. He clawed at my skin and a part of my brain registered the pain but the rest was focused on one thing only. As soon as I saw my opportunity I bit into lion's jugular and started drinking.

I'd never imagined that blood could taste so good. It soothed the ache in my throat. The animal's attempts to fight me off grew weaker and weaker until he stopped moving altogether. I didn't stop until there wasn't any blood left.

When I finished was when what I had just done fully hit me. What the hell?

Edward was still standing exactly where he was. He just stared at me with wide open eyes. "Renesmee don't you ever do that again young lady! You almost gave me a heart attack!" I didn't need to read his mind to hear just how scared he was.

"What just happened?"

"This did not go according to plan at all,"

"and what was the plan exactly?"

"I was going to attack that lion! I was going to show you what I was instead you-" he shook his head.

"What are you?" What am I?

"I'm a vampire," he whispered yet somehow I could still hear him. "and you're half vampire,"

I wanted to call him crazy. But after what I'd just done I couldn't. Only question is why did I do that? That's never happened to me before.

"I don't know," he said. "I think you're vampire side is beginning to reawaken,"

I sighed. "Can you please stop answering my thoughts it's freaking me out. Also how do you know what I am?"

"Remember what I said earlier in the car?"

Nobody hurts my daughter. That's what he said. "Are you trying to tell me that you are my father?" but how was this possible? He was the same age as I was or at least close to it. How could he be my father? My head was starting to spin.

"I'm actually over a hundred years old. Once I became a vampire I stopped aging. I might look 17 but I'm not,"

"So-" I gasped struggling to get the words out. "are all of you vampires? Even Jacob?"

"Well Jacob is not a vampire. But he's not exactly human either. But that's his secret to share. As for the rest of us? The answer is yes,"

This was a lot of information to take in and I felt like my head was going to explode. "If you're my father than who is my mother?"

"Bella is your mother," he answered.

"But if you're both vampires than wouldn't that make me a full vampire?"

"No because your mother was still human when she got pregnant with you. We didn't even know it was possible. You're a blessing nobody would've ever thought possible. I know you have a lot of questions but I think we should go home first. There's a lot of things we need to discuss and if we don't get home soon your mother will come looking for both of us. She worries a lot especially after you were kidnapped,"

Kidnapped? The questions kept piling on and on.

"Do they know that you told me everything?"

He shook his head. "No. I wasn't exactly planning on telling you today either. I'm just tired of keeping this a secret from you,"

"Well," I sighed. "I guess that kind of explains your reaction earlier," I rubbed my belly.

"I'm sorry about that. Your mom says I have a tendency to overreact,"

"I'll say," I laughed. It felt weird to laughter after everything I'd just learned.

Ten minutes later we were walking up to the house. Bella was standing out there looking worried. When she saw me her face changed from worried to downright horrified. Confused by her reaction I looked down and noticed that my clothes had been nearly destroyed by the mountain lion. My legs and arms were covered in large cuts and scrapes caused by the animal in questions. Though the wounds looked weeks old rather than minutes old there was dried up blood all over my body.
