For those who don't know, Saphron and Terra are unaware that Mike is J'onn J'onzz and that he's actually an alien, only Adrian does.
It was daytime in Argus, and at the Atlesian Military Base, various soldiers and guards were working on their daily jobs. Weiss Schnee was also there, walking alongside Caroline Cordovin and dragging a large luggage case behind her. They were also accompanied by Saphron Cotta-Arc, who was holding her son Adrian in her arm, as all of them were escorted by Cordovin's two Guards.
"Ah, I was relieved to hear that you came to your senses, Miss Schnee." Cordovin said with a joyful smile. "Many of us were devastated when we heard you would be attending... Beacon Academy." She said with disdain at the last part of her sentence. "Knowing that you'll be returning to Atlas just warms my old heart."
"It was... time to get my act together and go back to my roots." Weiss lied as she and the others approached the waiting airship.
"Oh, I can't wait to see you follow in your sister's footsteps." Cordovin smiled.
"Absolutely..." The former heiress lied again, this time cringing with an fake smile.
"I'm sending two of my best guards to personally escort you. Make sure General Ironwood hears that part." Cordovin winked before turning around and walking away.
"Allow me to assist you with your bag." One of the guards hups over to pick up Weiss' luggage, which he found was surprisingly heavy. "My, what a heavy bag!"
"That's alright!" Weiss insisted, keeping a strong grip on her luggage.
"Nonsense!"
"Allow me to assist as well!" The other guard also moved in to help.
"I can take care of it by myself!"
As Cordovin was walking away, she suddenly stopped in her tracks as she overheard Weiss and the Guards' conversation, which prompted her to gain a look of suspicion on her face. Fortunately, Saphron noticed this and was quick to act. "Just like we practiced." She whispered to Adrian. Nodding at his mother, the baby let out a loud wail that could be heard throughout the entire base.
Pretended to cry, Adrian began fussing in his mother's arms. "Oh no! Look at that, he's just going to miss you so much! You should hurry on out of here!" Saphron exclaimed, playing her part in pretending to comfort her son.
This caused the two Guards to stop trying to assist Weiss and turn their attention to Adrian.
"A crying child?" One guard cried out.
"We must console it!" The other exclaimed.
The two guards quickly hupped over to Adrian and began performing odd poses in order to amuse him, but to no avail. Cordovin, still a little suspicious, continued walking with an unamused look on her face. While they were distracted, Weiss quickly got onto the airship with the luggage behind her.
"That was close." The former heiress sighed in relief.
"Is everything okay?" Ruby asked via the earpiece that was in Weiss' ear.
"Call me heavy... It's all muscle! I'll show them a thing or two about heavy!" Maria's muffled voice was heard from inside Weiss' luggage.
"We're on board." The former heiress confirmed.
Elsewhere, Ruby, Jaune, Nora, Ren, Oscar, and Qrow were waiting along the cliffside between the forest and the ocean.
"Alright, we'll all watch our scrolls. The second Weiss is out of range of the comm tower, that'll mean she's out of range of the radar too." Ruby explained.
"And that's when Blake steps in. We're almost at the drop off." Yang's voice came over the radio.
Meanwhile, in another area, Yang was driving Bumblebee through the forest with Blake sitting behind her. The cat Faunus was receiving instructions from Terra Cotta-Arc via her Scroll.
"Okay, remember: one, the radar box is seperate from the rest of the communications equipment. So if you disconnect it properly, it won't take out comms for the rest of the city. Two, this conversation never happened." Terra said with a very serious tone.
"Don't worry, this isn't the first time I've disabled Atlas security." Blake reassured her with a smile.
Terra simply stared back with an unamused look. "Never. Happened."
After a little while, Yang arrived at the drop off point and Blake stepped off the motorcycle before proceeding forward. "You sure I shouldn't come with?" The blonde asked tentatively.
"More intruders means we're more likely to be seen." Blake said. "Besides, stealth isn't exactly your, um..." The cat Faunus nearly flinched when she noticed her partner staring at her with an unamused look. "I mean, you're great! And I'll hurry back."
Yang's expression softened as she smiled. "Go."
Smiling back, Blake turned and headed off.
"Heading in on foot. Won't be long." Blake said over the comm.
"Yes! It's all going to plan!" Jaune exclaimed as he pumped his fists, only to notice Ren and Nora staring at him with neutral looks. "I mean, uh... roger."
Ren and Nora briefly looked at each other before rolling their eyes in amusement at their leader. Oscar noticed that Ruby was looking at her uncle with concern. The drunk Huntsman was leaning against a tree with an uneasy look on his face, no doubt worried that his Semblance might complicate things.
"Hey, this is gonna work, right?" Oscar asked.
The young Huntress-in-training simply smiled at him. "Yeah."
On the airship, Weiss was sitting in the passenger seat. She looked at her scroll and noticed her friends' signals slowly going out of range. Seeing this, the former heiress knew that it was time to make her move. Unfastening her seat belt, she got up and headed toward the cockpit.
"Miss Schnee! For your own safety, we must request-"
"What?!"
Wasting no time, Weiss quickly activated a glyph and proceeded to attack the two guards.
"Traitor!"
Sounds of struggle and grunts from the guards were heard. Afterwards, the airship flew by as the two guards could be seen tied together by a black Schnee glyph, slowly descending thanks to the parachute Weiss provided them with.
"This parachute won't excuse you of your treachery!" One of the guards yelled. The glyph then deactivated, causing one of said guard to hang onto the leg of the other guard for dear life in a rather comical way.
Back on the airship, Weiss (still remorseful for what she did) walked over to the controls while Maria took the pilot's seat. "And you're sure you can fly this?" The former heiress asked as she sat next to Maria.
"Missy, I was the Grimm Reaper! What part of 'best Huntress of her generation' don't you understand?" Maria asked with a smirk.
"Right, but your eyes." Weiss pointed out.
Noticing a small device that was plugged in the controls, Maria chuckled. She took out the device and plugged it into her goggles, which was followed by a text appearing on one of the screens, reading "TRANSMITTING SENSOR ARRAY DATA". This caused Maria's prosthetic eyes to grow wider. "You were saying?" The former Grim Reaper smirked.
"But you said your eyes were in desperate need of repair!"
Maria simply held a finger out at Weiss. "Bup bup bup."
"But-"
"Bup!"
Finally relenting, the former heiress placed on her seat belt while Maria turned the airship around.
Back on the ground, Ruby watched her scroll as Weiss' signal disappeared.
Seeing this, she turned to her friends. "Alright guys, this is it." She said before placing her fingers on her ear. "Blake, you're up." However, no response came from their Faunus friend. "Blake?" Again, no response.
The young Huntress looked back to her friends in worry, who, in turn, looked equally worried.
Yang was sitting on the ground next to Bumblebee, waiting for her partner to finish the job. As she was waiting, Ruby's voice suddenly came over the comm. "Yang, what's going on?"
Hearing this, the blonde got up and looked over to the relay tower, which still appeared to be active.
"I don't know..." Yang responded with genuine confusion. Like her friends, the blonde felt worried and slightly panicked by this unexpected turn of events. Looking to her scroll, she saw that Weiss' signal came back on.
Inside the Atlesian base, Cordovin was watching her men working the terminals with her hands clasped behind her back. As they were working, a beep was heard. "Ma'am, we've got something on radar." One of the men called out, noticing something was amiss.
"And who would be foolish enough to enter our airspace unannounced?" Cordovin asked with an annoyed tone.
"Apparently... us, ma'am."
Hearing this, Cordovin immediately caught on and realized what was going on. However, whatever action she was about to make was halted as she and the other people in the room suddenly froze in place, almost like statues. Something had influenced their minds and was compelling them to not take any action.
The reason for this was because J'onn J'onzz was also present in the room with them, standing not too far from the now-motionless Cordovin. With his ability to become invisible and intangible, J'onn easily infiltrated the base in order to act as a contingency plan in case things took a turn for the worst. While he disliked using his telepathy offensively on others, he had do something in order to allow his friends to pass safely. Harmlessly, he disabled the minds of everyone in this base, leaving them in a comatose-like state. After he and his friends pass, he will allow their minds to return to normal with no recollection of what happened.
Back on the airship, Weiss and Maria heard J'onn's telepathic voice in their heads. "Weiss. Maria. I have stopped Cordovin from doing any harm to you. But the relay tower is still active, and I sense another mind with Blake."
Hearing this, the two women felt both relieved and concerned at the same time. Relieved that Cordovin at least was taken care of, but also concerned that something may have happened to their friend. Weiss quickly placed her fingers to her ear and called her friends. "Ruby, J'onn took care of Cordo, but Blake might be in trouble because the radar still up."
"We know, and Blake isn't responding." Ruby replied.
"What do we do now?" Oscar asked, feeling slightly panicked.
"I will go and check on Ms. Belladonna. You all stay where you are." J'onn said to them via his telepathy.
"But what about Cordovin?" Nora asked.
"Worry not. I will put Ms. Cordovin and all her men to sleep. They won't be waking up anytime soon."
The group momentarily looked at each other in contemplation before agreeing. "Alright, J'onn. Just please make it quick." Ruby said.
"Understood."
Meanwhile, at the comms tower, Blake's scroll was laying on the ground with its owner nowhere to be seen.
"Ruby, J'onn took care of Cordo, but Blake might be in trouble because the radar still up."
"We know, and Blake isn't responding."
It was then that someone stepped on the scroll as they ran, crushing it. Blake herself, who had a completely terrified look on her face, was running as fast as she could before she hid behind cover, only to discover the dead body of an Atlas guard next to her which made her reel back in horror. The cat Faunus was forced to take cover again when a gunshot was heard. Looking to the floor below her, Blake saw none other than her former White Fang partner and mentor: Adam Taurus. The bull Faunus had discarded his Grimm mask and was now wearing a black blindfold to cover his eyes. Sheathing Wilt into Blush, Adam looked up at Blake with a twisted smile on his face. "It's nice to finally have time to ourselves. Don't you think?"
"Leave me alone!" Blake cried out as she fired at Adam, who easily blocked and absorbed the kinetic energy of the bullets with his sword.
"But I've waited so long, for you to be away from them." Adam said.
Terrified, Blake quickly ran over and used a cable to zipwire herself down, but Adam was quick to cut the cable with his Semblance, causing Blake to land on the same platform he was on. As soon as she fell, the two proceed to clash blades, followed by Blake kicking Adam back a distance.
"Why did you have to come into my life and ruin everything?!" Adam growled.
"You stalked me across Anima! I don't want anything to do with your life!" Blake yelled back.
Furious by the response, Adam rushed forward and clashed swords with former teammate once again. After a short back-and-forth battle, Blake leaped up and used her Semblance to land on the platform above. Looking over the rail, she switched Gambol Shroud to pistol form and pointed down but found no sign of Adam. Looking behind, Blake was caught by surprise when she got hit with the hilt of Adam's sword, which bounced back in his hand. Switching Gambol Shroud to kusarigama form, Blake swung around and clashed with Adam again. After another short sword fight, Adam grabbed her by the arm and tossed her near the edge of the platform, where she landed on the rail and quickly dodged out of the way of Adam's Semblance, landing on the platform above. Before Blake could even react, Adam appeared right in front of her and grabbed her by the throat, pushing her to the edge of the railing. Thinking fast, Blake stomped on his foot, causing Adam to lose his balance and allowing both of them to fall over the rail.
The two crashed through multiple tree branches, breaking their fall as they landed on the ground.
"Let go of the past, Adam. Do it for yourself." Blake said as she slowly got back up.
"Just forget it all?" Adam asked, almost in disbelief. "Is that what you did to me?! You just threw our memories away?!"
"Adam!"
"I let you go once already, Blake. I'm never making that mistake again..." The bull Faunus declared as he placed his hand on the hilt of his sword.
With that, the two former partners took defensive stances as they prepare for another battle against each other.
I hope you enjoyed this chapter. The next chapter is where Martian Manhunter will really start displaying his abilities.
