Rumi frowned as she sat on her apartment couch holding a small vial of dark blue liquid in her metal hand. True to Oscar's word, the supposed miracle drug had been in lab C of the black site. Honestly the entire mission had been a cakewalk, which made Rumi even more suspicious of Oscar's intentions. It had been easy to knock out the local power grid at night and then simply make her way inside with brute force. Of course she had not worn her hero outfit, opting instead to wear baggy clothes and a cheap halloween mask as a disguise. To cover her tracks, the rabbit hero had trashed several labs and freed almost a dozen animals being experimented on. With any luck, the Ministry of Defense would simply write it off as an attack by one of the many international eco-terrorist groups.
Now here she was, waiting in her apartment for Oscar to show up and collect his hard drive. The hard drive was the size of a brick and almost weighed as much, and several times Rumi had been tempted to simply destroy it and tell Oscar to go fuck himself. However, doing that would only make more problems for her, and at this point Rumi simply wanted to never talk to the creepy American again.
As the nearby digital clock beeped to announce it was three in the morning, there was a polite knock on Rumi's door. Standing up and putting the vial in her pocket, Rumi went over to the door and peered out the tiny spyhole to make sure it was not an unexpected visitor. Truthfully, Rumi could already smell that disgusting aroma that clung to Oscar from the couch, but it never hurt to be careful. As expected, Oscar stood patiently in the hallway. But as soon as Rumi laid eyes on the American, Oscar somehow seemed to sense her presence and gave a friendly wave.
Her frown deepening, Rumi opened the apartment door and immediately shoved the hard drive into Oscar's hands.
"There, we are even. Now fuck off." She said with undisguised hostility.
Deftly catching the hard drive, Oscar gave Rumi a mock offended look. "Is that really how you treat a guest? You are not even going to invite me in for tea?"
Her patience already running out, Rumi gave Oscar a cold look. "Not for you. Stop messing around and leave before I throw you out the window."
Peeking over Rumi's shoulder, Oscar smiled cheekily as he inspected the dark apartment. "Aww, is your little love nest feeling empty without Mister Mido? How long have you guys been living together?"
Okay, now that was definitely crossing the line.
Stepping into the hallway and slamming the apartment door closed behind her, Rumi snarled and roughly poked Oscar in the chest. "You better watch your mouth Oscar. I have no problem breaking your legs right now if you want to keep talking shit. Or are you threatening to blackmail me? Because if that is so then I will be more than happy to make sure you eat through a straw for the rest of your life."
For once, Oscar seemed surprised. Blinking several times, Oscar curiously rubbed the spot on his chest where Rumi had poked him.
"Huh...you got stronger…" The American said quietly. "Interesting…"
Sensing that for once Oscar was caught off guard, Rumi decided to pay Oscar back for all the crap he had given her. Slowly walking forward, Rumi forced Oscar to back up as she mimicked his sinister smile.
"Damn right." Rumi chuckled evilly. "Consider this your one and only warning. If you so much as touch a single hair on Izuku's head I will hunt you down and kill you myself. Honestly, I would probably be doing the world a favor. But I am not a cold-blooded murderer like you."
Frowning, Oscar gave Rumi an annoyed look.
"Oh calm your tits Miruko." Oscar said with slight annoyance. "Contrary to what you might think, Mido is one of the last people I would willingly hurt. I understand him better than you ever will, and when the time comes I will welcome him back to where he belongs with open arms."
Pausing, Rumi growled at Oscar threateningly. "You know nothing about Izuku. You might have the same training, but Izuku is your polar opposite. Besides, I would never do anything to betray him. He is staying with me, so stop acting like you know what is better for him."
Oscar was quiet for a few moments before chuckling in amusement. "Oh you naive little rabbit. Just you wait, one day the people you call heroes will turn their backs on Mido and toss him to the wolves as if he never did anything to help them. The thing is, Mido knows that to change the world you need to get your hands dirty. Something you heroes don't have the balls to do. It's only a matter of time before your people stab him in the back, and when that happens, I will gladly say I told you so."
Turning around, Oscar spat on the carpeted floor disrespectfully. "Don't bother coming to me for any more favors. You deserve everything that is coming to you, and I will greatly enjoy watching you all burn in hell along with me."
Before Rumi could say anything, Oscar had walked into the elevator and closed its doors.
Feeling her frown deepen even more, Rumi huffed in annoyance and returned to her apartment. Back inside, Rumi walked to her bedroom and began changing into some regular clothes as she mentally talked to herself.
"Stupid asshole. He has no idea what he is talking about. I would never betray Izuku. If he ever did something bad I know he would trust me enough to tell me and explain himself. That is the man I fell in love with, and nothing will change that."
Done changing, Rumi felt her spirits rise a little as she carefully held the vial of medicine in her human hand.
Time to see if this miracle drug actually works.
The endless black void was comforting to Izuku. Nothing to bother him, no nightmares, just blissful eternal silence. Floating in the darkness, Izuku felt his sense of self slowly begin to disappear.
"Is this what it feels like to die?" Izuku mused absentmindedly as he felt his limbs begin to go numb.
Honestly, he was quite satisfied with how he had gone out. Best case scenario, Rumi lived and now has the rest of her life ahead of her. Worst case scenario, he might be seeing her real soon.
TIme had no meaning in the darkness, and as far as Izuku knew it could only have been a couple hours since he died, or years.
"I hope I get to see mom again."
Suddenly, a tiny pinprick of light flared into existence. It was like a singular star shining brightly in the distance, and Izuku could not help but be curious as to what it was.
Before Izuku could comprehend what was going on, the light began to grow in size and brightness. It gradually grew so large that the blinding light enveloped the bewildered Izuku, causing the green-haired man to wonder if he was going to heaven or hell.
Then he woke up.
And boy was he in pain.
Blinking his bleary eyes, Izuku looked around while he tried to figure out where he was and what had happened to him. It seemed he was in some sort of hospital room and was connected to all manner of life support equipment and medical devices.
Groaning in pain, Izuku finally realized that he was stuffed full of tubes and wires. Gagging, Izuku frantically pulled a long tube out of his throat and stomach with a gasp of pain. At this point alarms were starting to go off, but Izuku was too delirious to notice. Just as he was about to rip out a set of wires that had been surgically inserted into his abdomen, a doctor and a trio of nurses ran into the room with panicked shouting.
"Sir please stop!" The doctor yelled as he grabbed Izuku's arm to prevent him from doing any more damage. "Sir you are in the hospital recovering from near fatal injuries! Calm down and let us help you!"
At first, Izuku paused as he listened to the doctor. It was a reasonable request, and Izuku was sure the doctor knew what he was talking about.
Then something strange happened.
It was like a red fog blanketed Izuku's brain and began to amplify the feelings of distress. Adrenaline began to pump through his veins, and Izuku barely noticed the heart rate monitors begin to beep loudly in the background.
"GET OFF OF ME!" Izuku roared demonically.
With surprising strength, Izuku knocked the frantic doctor over as the nurses began yelling for restraints and sedatives.
"WHERE IS RUMI?!" Izuku yelled in desperation and fearful anger. "WHERE IS THE MOTHERFUCKER THAT STABBED ME!?"
Like an angel answering Izuku's call, Rumi burst through the door with a happy but concerned look on her face.
"Izuku!" The rabbit hero cried out in relief as she ran over to her boyfriend's side. "Izuku it's okay! I am right here! Calm down and let the doctors help you."
Like a beast being tamed, Izuku groggily nodded and slowly let himself lay back down. "mkay...I was...I was worried…"
Feeling his heart rate begin to slow, Izuku finally realized how tired he was. Mumbling his apologies, Izuku kept a tight grip on Rumi's human hand as he drifted off to sleep.
"Get some rest Izuku." Rumi said softly. "I promise I am not going anywhere."
As Izuku closed his eyes, the last thing he saw was Rumi smiling down at him as doctors and nurses warily approached with medical instruments in hand.
