?'s POV

I stared at those accused papers in front of me. My first trial is basic enough. Just shred them... but... what's the poi-

?: Hello there.

I hear a familiar voice. I look to my right to see a man, much like me, clad in darkness. I could only make out his silhouette.

?: Just a random question but, do you know what a majority vote is?

What?!

Me: O- obviously!

?: Hehe, there's no need to get mad. It's much easier to start a conversation with an easy question.

Me: Wh-

?: Oh? Looks like people are over there.

I didn't have the guts to tell him off. I look off in the distance to see a man in blue and a woman in red. They seem to be having an enthusiastic conversation.

Mr. Blue: I love majority votes! They represent the way a democracy should be, following the will of the people! It's a method that minimizes conflict!

Ms. Red: I hate majority votes! They're just a way to silence the minority! It allows more darkness to build in the shadows!

?: Oh dear... it sounds like they're having some tedious argument. Incidentally, whose opinion do you support? Mr. Blue's, or Ms. Red's?

Me:... I guess support... Ms. Red's?

Suddenly, the collar around Mr. Blue's neck exploded. Instinctually, I grabbed my own neck to feel ice cold metal. The reality of my situation began to sink in. I felt my blood run cold.

?: Aww... he died, but good for you! Your opinion had more support! Although, it's sort of ironic for that fanatic of majority vote to be killed with a majority vote. Even more so with you and Ms. Red. I mean... she's only alive because of you and you used a majority vote.

My breathing became heavy. I feel my own face distort with various emotions. Rage... Despair... Disgust... and then some. I aimed them all toward him. He was unphased.

?: Hmm? What's with that look?

Me: Wah?! Huh?! YOU! YOU KILLED THAT MAN!

?: No, I didn't. Your vote was what killed him.

I recoiled.

Me: I-

?: You wouldn't have voted if you knew someone would die? In this world, you sheep... you trash will not get anywhere, okay?

I wanted to counter him... but I couldn't. He was right. I know the rules of this place and here... A Majority Vote is what stands between life and death.

?: Hey, let's hold a vote... and be honest with yourself. Do you think someone like you can really survive in a place like this?

I remained silent. I felt my spine shiver

?: Let's hold a vote!

Me: About what?

?: About whether or not someone as weak and cowardly as you can survive here of course!

I had nothing to say. I felt my will waiver. The figure leaned closer to me, and I realized who I was talking to.

?: Okay then... Let's go.

His face twisted into a wicked grin filled with no emotion... no empathy. This is where I must... sacrifice myself.
