Dear diary,
So apparently I died. It was only a few days after we had returned from overseas in search of the Miraculous. We had embark on a quest to stop the Advance Sciences Society from obtaining their wish. We failed yet in the end Mia decided to forfeit and revert her wish. The only way this could be done is if someone made an offer and she accepted. That someone was me.
But I don't ever seem to recall ever offering her my life, and as far as I can tell, she doesn't remember that being the case either. It's strange though. Why did it work? How was she able to bring Hatusune Miku back from the dead without anyone dying and furthermore, why did I die a few days after returning? Was that the price to pay to cancel out Mia's wish? But if that's the case, then that would only mean none of the sacrifices have to be consumed immediately. It's strange though.
When Miawa first brought me back using the secondary active superpower of her Miraculous, upon seeing Chijinda nowhere in sight I grabbed her. I was certain she had done something to my man. Nope, turns out she needed my help, said something about Chijinda going loco. I didn't want to believe it but the Chief insisted I come along. When I saw that she was speaking the truth and that Chijinda really had changed, all I could think about was getting him back.
A month. That's how long I was dead. Some time after Chijinda was deakumatized I asked him to update me. His memory during the time he was akumatized is hazy, though he does recall that just before I died, he tried using his psychic skill reincarnation on me. It didn't work, which therefore meant using a silver, red or gold feather wouldn't work either and nor would a phoenix down, the only feather guaranteed to bring a dead person back to life. I truly had died and it was my death that pushed him fully into the akumatized company.
Speaking of sacrifices, I think I know why Mia was able to pull off her wish without anyone dying. It's just a hunch but I should go over another thought I had.
If a wish is made to bring someone back from the dead, an equivalent price would be that someone else dies. If you wish to have somebody permanently rest, another soul has to return. An equivalent exchange, yin and yang.
I wonder if there's someone else other than Chijinda that Mia hates so much? Still, if there is, I don't find it likely the cancellation of her wish resulted in such a revival especially since the activation of hers did not result in a death. Then again, there may be someone else we don't know of yet that she equally values. Could it be that some random person Mia treasures that we don't know about died? Who knows.
Assuming no one died or came back to life as the direct result of the activation and cancellation of Miawa Totsetemo's wish, I can only harbor this guess. I plan on chatting with Mia to see what she thinks.
"You sure you want to do this?"
"I have to. I want to know why, Chijinda."
"Be careful."
Right, now to call her up…
"What do you want?"
"I wanted to see if you're game."
"For what? We're not friends you know."
"I know. Just wanted to see if you'd be willing to share with us your ideals."
"About?"
"What happened on that day you got your Miraculous wish."
Mia stood silent.
"What's your hypothesis?"
"Me?"
"Yeah, I want to hear from you first. Your that detective's assistant, so I want to see your analyzation skills."
That's a fair point.
"Alright then. Here's what I think happened. You ready?"
Mia clicked her pen.
"You and I both know the wish of the Miraculous calls for an equivalent exchange."
"In return for brining someone back from the dead, someone close to you that you treasure must die,"
"To heal someone, another must become sick."
"Right."
"Uh-huh. Yet maybe we've been thinking this too simply."
"You're saying?"
"There's no doubt you would've much liked to see Chijinda dead."
"By golly I would."
"And you were certain his death would bring about her revival."
"Yes."
"But you also were concerned that your friend Erika would die in order to satisfy the sacrifice requirement of the Miraculous wish."
"True. That was a concern of mine."
"If either could work, then we should conclude the parameters of what is considered an equivalent exchange might be a bit looser than we thought."
"So you're saying the cost for bringing Hatsune Miku need not be someone's death."
"Right, and likewise to cancel your wish, that is to say, to bring Miku back to the dead need not result in another treasured person, whether admired or hated to be brought back to life."
"Uh-huh."
"That still leaves us the question then what exactly was sacrificed. I'm harboring it has something to do with your relationship with Hatsune Miku."
"Funny. I was thinking the same thing."
"Wanna share?"
"Miku and I are close friends, so maybe, just maybe…"
"Yeah, I figured as much."
After our meeting we hung up. It makes sense. Miku's behaviour was just unlike her, it was though she herself had changed. We both agreed that the sacrifice for the wish of the Miraculous must've resulted in a detrimental exchange in this relationship. Likewise, there must've been something Mia admired about my relationship with Chijinda which therefore made my death later on an appropriate substitute for cancelling out her wish.
"Hm. So you say."
"Right."
"I guess that could work. It's not something I was expecting. I guess I'll have to give her the benefit of the doubt."
It's going to take some time for Chijinda to trust her. I don't very much trust her myself, but from what I hear, she's been actively making strides to improve herself.
After he was deakumatized, the Chief had Chijinda take various therapy and counseling sessions. It was obvious Chijinda didn't like it, but still he held on.
"Cheer up, Chijinda. It's not like you will always be doing this."
Chijinda smiled up at me. Chijinda may try to put on a tough act at times but I get the impression he's embarrassed. He just doesn't want to admit it. My little friend assures me he's doing alright.
When did I start writing freely about the Miraculous here in my diar? I think it was Trixx who taught me a spell I could use to scramble up my words. Now, unless they know the correct password the letters that appear will look like I'm talking about something else.
Strange, come to think of it, wouldn't this be a case of transformation? In any case, I still can't say I know how to do magick. Trixx spells it that way. He says there's a difference between magic and magick. Not sure what that is. Maybe it has something to do with history or etymology. It's a shame I didn't pay that much attention to my history lessons. In any regards, I'm surprised Trixx knows this spell.
"I don't understand. How does this constitute as an illusion spell?"
Trixx just nodded.
This spell has its limits. It can only be used to help hide the existence of the Miraculous so provided the caster is the one writing about them, and it has to be written. It's certainly made my job a whole lot easier.
Today I've received word that our marriage request has been approved. I can tell you, nothing fills me with such joy now knowing our wishes have been accepted. Everything has been arranged and set up ahead of time.
Here's a list of some invitees. This list is not to be considered complete and is only a suggestion:
Kanda
Medea
Izumi
My family
Chijinda's family
a couple of our other co-workers.
The Chief said he would be busy that day so he won't be around.
Ah, cake. Should we have cake?
"Huh. So you two lovebirds are finally getting married."
"Yes we are. You jealous or something Mia?"
"As if I could be jealous. Soon I'll have the whole world worshipping the very ground I walk on, Ohohohoho! Break a leg you two."
She's still planning on taking over the world, but at least this time she's doing it through a constructive manner. I think it's a major improvement on her part. As for us?
"Hey Chijinda. I've been thinking. Since we'll be having our wedding tomorrow, why don't we get to know each other."
Chijinda scratched his head.
"Like intimately?"
"Like the story in Genesis."
"Adam and Eve."
I smiled. He knows where I'm going with this. It will be quite experience. I'll have to make sure not squish him from within my nethers.
"How about we just enjoy ourselves in the bask of this sunset first."
"Ho? You like foreplay do you? What? Don't think you can handle me?"
Chijjinda stammered. He's so cute when he gets flustered like that.
"I'm kidding, I'm kidding. Still, let's get to know each other carnally before our wedding, honey."
"Will do, my love."
Yes, tomorrow's the day we finally get married. Our pre-wedding honey-moon is the perfect time for us to hype ourself for this special occasion. Before I would've said the day I got my pet gerbil was the cheerfullest day of my life, prior to getting hired. Now getting married to the love of my life will be the first of my hallmarks as a 73.04 meter tall giantess.
This world truly has come far and I am proud to preserve it and see it progress. We will encounter troubles along the way yet I know we will persevere. It is within our blood.
I can't wait for our wedding tomorrow, Chijinda-kun.
