"So you're saying you don't recall feeling any negative emotion during the time you and Chijinda were on your premarital honeymoon?"
Narue shooked her head.
"Hm-mh. Thank you for your time. Yes, this information has proven quite useful."
Narue held her breath. Just by looking her face I could tell she was thinking about something, but since she's my bride to be, I'll keep her thoughts private to herself.
Narue felt dismayed. She had promised to herself that despite all the backlash against her she would not let their taunts reach her heart, she had accepted that deep down she had some naughty inclinations but still. She declared herself a superheroine when she donned on the Turtle Miraculous. And now?
"Before I dismiss the both of you there's one more thing I'd like to know."
Looking up from his desk, the Chief quickly noted Narue's sideways glance before looking down at his papers.
"Before you were akumatized, what was the last emotion you remember feeling?"
Her voice quivering, Narue answered.
"L- it was.. was"
The Chief motioned for her to continue. Narue's eyes darted for a brief moment before she continued to speak and as she did so, her pupils dilated.
"Love."
Jotting that down, the Chief then dismissed us. Jumping out the window and into her awaiting hand, Narue brought me close to her breast pocket and slid me inside. I wanted to talk with her, to tell her it would be alright.
Man! It's just been one thing after the other. As Narue carried me to our usual spot, I could feel the pounding of her heart. At last we arrived, Narue sat down cross-legged and allowed me to climb out from her breast pocket.
"Narue I-"
Narue placed her index finger on her lips, signifying for me to remain silent.
"Chijinda. Take care of yourself."
"N-Narue?"
"It's much too dangerous for us to remain together. I'm too dangerous!"
Trixx hovered nearby, place his stubby little arms on her shoulders as if console her.
"That's not true. You were the under the effects of that foul Miraculous holder, Udaspes Folus. You weren't in your right mind." Wayzz objected.
"Influenced or not I still broke my vow. I caused all this."
Seeing her like this, it just- it just gets to me. Ha. I- uh, I think I'm starting to understand how she must've felt that one time I was nearly done in by Mia's bird sentimonster.
"You've been akumatized before. So what." Trixx stated.
"Trixx! What has-"
I wanted to object but suddenly Wayzz interrupted me.
"He's right. You may think you're doing your love there a favor, but think about it. You must be afraid that you'll turn into some supermonster again."
Narue nodded.
"What's to prevent you from becoming akumatized again? Do you expect to keep Chijinda safe by staying far away from him?"
Narue blinked at Wayzz's words before slowly shaking her head.
"Of course not. If anything, you'd probably hurt or even kill him without realizing it. Can you imagine the sheer horror you would feel if that villain deakumatized you right then and there?"
I gritted my teeth right then and there. That- sounded like something that reprobate would concoct. I can just imagine the sheer joy he'd get. What a fucking loon.
"You're not going to let one major incident hold you back, are you? My owner, Chijinda was akumatized just as well and all because he cared about you."
Wayzz nodded.
"He might as well akumatize your love here. Either way you cannot hide, you cannot run."
Narue held her fist close to her heart.
"But I can fight."
Trixx and Wayzz looked up at her, their faces smiling, their heads nodding.
"I can persevere and overcome. You're right Trixx. I- I should've seen it earlier."
"No problem." Trixx stated.
I smiled. It was good to see that she was back in high spirits again. Now hopefully we can still get married. Narue then picked me up and carried me home. After thanking her for the lift, I then ran inside the apartment building and up to my room. Next I turned to look over at my kwami.
"Trixx. Did you mean what you just said? I thought you said earlier that the Butterfly Miraculous has a range limit. Was that just a lie?"
Trixx just shrugged.
"Figures."
Closing his eyes for but a second Triss folded his little arms.
"I'm the Kwami of Lies and Deception. If a comforting lie is all that's needed to bring you humans to an era of prosperity, if a single lie can save many, then that's what I'll do. I'll hide away the truth so that your kind won't have to suffer because of it."
"I understand."
I got under the covers.
"Trixx. I just wanted to say, thank you."
And so I retire for the night and as for the Chief? Back at the Agency's headquarters, a man in a blue tuxedo paced about his office table. Taking a puff he pulled out his smartphone.
24 minutes passed.
There. He did all he could. No doubt this new insight would prove to be unsettling. He made sure not to reveal the existence of the Miraculous, though there was no point in hiding the behaviorism of those pink butterflies or as they are properly known, the akumas. Of course, the Chief never referred to them as that. That was something the Ministry of Defense didn't need to know.
"R-repeat that again to me? One more time?"
"The pink butterflies that have been plaguing us now are no longer limited to extreme negative emotions. They can also target individuals in a state of exuberance, passion, love and joy."
Silence.
"Wha- what are you saying?"
"They've adapted."
"E-even still! We can't go around making people emotionless! That's an impossibility!"
"Right, emotions are a part of what makes us human, that said however we're going to have introduce new protocols to the general public."
"I see. Thank you for informing me of this."
"No problem. Oh and one more thing?"
"What's that?"
The Chief smiled as he proceeded to ask the Minister of Defense a favor.
The next day Chijinda awoke to a text message from the Chief.
[
Just wanted to let you know your marriage license to Narue has not been revoked. I have also contacted the Ministry of Defense. Preparations are set for you 2 to tie the knot tomorrow.
]
Well that's some good news. I'd best head off to work now.
Narue did not come to pick me up this time. That's alright. I'll just take the metro. As I boarded the shuttle I could see several had their eyes on me. Quite a handful of them looked at me with disgust but I was alright.
This whole day I mostly worked in the office, filling out papers and organizing spreadsheets. Not once did I see Narue. Huh. I wonder what's going on? I hope she's doing alright. It's getting late now. I clocked out and started heading back. As I walked out the front entrance I decided to check my cellphone one last time.
Location: Somewhere in Yabaize, Japan
A man twirls about on his heels before letting himself drop backwards before suddenly stopping his fall. He then throws the glass cup he had been holding.
"Heeheheehe- weee this is so delightful!"
"What is? Your plans have been foiled."
"Oh have they, Nooroo? Only now can I spring it into action! (snaps his fingers) Your previous owners never took into consideration they might lose. Sure, Narue's back to normal and I hardly have gotten any cred from that overrated detective, but it will all work out."
The face on the man's fare terrified the little kwami. He could feel his heart pressure rising.
"DOn't bE aLarMed! Ah hAhaha! I- haave a speciaal treat for them. Consider it a gift. Say. My sources tell me they're having their wedding tomorrow."
"No doubt you won't be invited."
"Of course not, but do I care?"
"Y-you wouldn't-"
"I'll just invite myself."
That was the last straw.
"I won't help you."
"Ooh, we're getting a little feisty aren't we? And what makes you say that?"
Crossing his little arms, the Butterfly Kwami started answering.
"I don't want to help you and knowing you, you wouldn't dare force me to obey using the privileges granted to the holder of the Miraculous. It's not in your nature. Go ahead. Rely on your friends to do your dirty work. As for me, I'll have no part of this."
For some reason this greatly pleased the man.
"Well said. It's about time you grew a spine, of course that does mean you'll either have to reveal my identity or-"
The man's voice trailed off.
"Make your own superhero and defeat me."
"That's-"
"Improper? Oh. But I thought you wanted to stop me. Why that's a brilliant plan, though let's not forget we're in the sector of a city surrounded by the worst of humanity."
"A hero will rescue me."
"That may be, but statistically speaking your chances of falling into the hands of someone who will treat you like Hawkmoth is significantly higher. What. You're going to rely on hope? No my dear friend. Save yourself. Stop relying on others. Only you can carve out your own destiny- or do you forever wish to be chained?"
Nooroo shooked his head.
"I don't get you. Just what are you planning?"
Smiling, the man answered curly.
"Sorry, but that's my secret."
Nooroo looked on.
"Tell me."
The man just smiled. This was getting nowhere.
"Relax. All you need to know is, even if you refuse to help, all the preparations for my brilliant design have come into play. It will all work out and you'll be greatly rewarded if you cooperate. Of course, like you said, I'm not the type to force others, though I can't say that will be the same for your future owner- oh. Right. You're still holding onto that hope you'll find a better owner. Well how about this? Why don't I help you then?"
"H-how?"
The man smiled.
"First. Let's go and crash a party, shall we?"
