Okay I am going to be honest with you guys, I have no idea what I am doing this my first fic.

I thought that the YU-GI-OH universe was the one that made the most sense to make a self insert or in this case an OC insert, I mean you dont have to be a masterful fighter or a super genius in there just be good playing a childrens card game, comparing that to for example the Naruto universe, yeah much easier to survive.

Anyways here is the fic.

Blinking away the spots in my vision the first thing that I saw was a ceiling, an unfamiliar ceiling for starters. Focusing on my other senses I also felt the bed in which I woke up, "Is this silk?" I murmured half paying attention half trying to go back to sleep.

"Wait a minute..., my bed isn't this comfortable" I asked nobody in particular.

Suddenly waking up much faster on that realization, using my hands to rub my eyes just in case I was somehow wrong or still sleeping somehow, I was confronted with the fact that this indeed was not my bed, and definitely not my room, of course not being still 100% there the first question that I asked myself was.

"Was I kidnapped? "I spew forth. Now a lot less sleepy than before, I carefully and slowly look around the room and at myself.

Okay good news I wasn't cuffed or restrained in any form and there wasn't anyone else in the room, BAD news I didn't recognize this room at all, I also DID NOT go to sleep with these clothes on "What even is this shit, who am I? Scrooge Mcduck" I must have been looking at the most generic looking rich guy pajamas I had ever seen, with the bathrobe looking ass top part and even a sleeping cap.

Deciding that enough is enough I slowly make my way to the mirror I see near the corner of the room alongside what must be quite the expensive desk. "Okay what is going onnn... WHAT IN GOddamm?!" I shouted reflexively before taking notice of the fact that there may be someone else in wherever I am.

But truly could anyone blame when the person in that mirror looks NOTHING like me, I mean sure we have a pretty close body type, the man (even though I used the term loosely, he cannot be more than sixteen years old) I was looking at was fair skinned and quite tall for his age at about 5ft 11in (around 180cm), he also had charcoal black hair that covers his left, which were an intense amber color, "ha, kind of looks like a genderbent Cinder Fall".

"Okay Jack, think what the hell is going on?"

"Maybe there is a phone or laptop around here." Looking at the desk drawers I found what looked like a phone, opening the device with my fingerprint was an odd surprise but all in all not the weirdest thing of the day.

Looking through the device I saw something that made my heart stop for a second.

DUELIST PROFILE: JACK GRAYWARDEN

DP: 2000

"What" I whispered to myself in disbelief, before I finally remembered, "Holy shit! this is a PDA weren't they from the YU-GI-OH anime? yeah, I remember them from the Tag Force games as well".

The first name was correct at least, though I have no idea what surname is about. Looking further at the drawers I found what could undeniably be consider a duel disk from the GX era and a deckbox, though looking at the duel disk properly, "There is no chance in hell that's plastic" Fitting the device on my left arm I wasn't as shocked as I could have been when it activated itself and expanded.

"There is one final step before I confirm my theory" open the deckbox I was greeted with a familiar card "Guardian Angel Joan man does this card bring back memories"

Guardian Angel Joan (Level 7/ Light/ Fairy/2800 ATK/ 2000 DEF)

(When this card destroys a monster by battle and sends it to the GY: Gain LP equal to that monster's original ATK in the GY.)

"Good to know, that you are familiar with me master" An ethereal voice filled the room, and I almost dropped the deck from the scare, focusing back on the deck I could see the depiction of the card moving, before suddenly in a flash the room was filled with light.

Blinking away the blurriness in my eyes the first thing that I saw was (literally) angelic woman, whit orange hair wearing white dress. I couldn't hope of hiding my surprise even if I wanted to, this was without a doubt a duel spirit I don't know how I am so certain, maybe there is something primal in my brain when in contact which such a potentiality dangerous entity or maybe it was the fact that I finally could tell, without a shadow of a doubt I am in the universe of YU-GI-OH and magic is real here.

Having come to this reality shaking realization I of course answered smoothly and suavely.

"Huh" I answer smartly.

Thankfully all that got me was a giggle (which was admittedly great) from the spirit. Coming to my senses I remember my manners and tried to start a conversation.

"Um, hello who are you?" I asked respectfully because even if she had angel on her name, you never know with duel spirits.

"Oh? Am I supposed to imagine that you don't know what I am even if you can see me and aren't surprised?" She said mischievously and with more sass than I expected for a card literally called guardian angel, and what was I supposed to do ignore her? Yeah, right that would have been both rude and stupid.

"Okay then new question, are you responsible from me being here?" really hoping for a straight answer here.

"Whatever could you mean by HERE? She had a raised eyebrow, but I could see the vulpine grin she had on her face.

"You Know what I mean, how is it that I am in this place?" Was it a risk admitting that I wasn't from here? Maybe but truthfully, I don't think her intentions are bad, call it a gut feeling.

Hearing my question seemed to drop her mood a tad, but she carried on with an interesting answer.

"I am partially responsible for bringing you here .I "grabbed" your soul and inserted it in the body you are residing now, but you must understand that when I found you were just that a soul, you did not have a body floating in the space between dimensions" She said turning dead serious, the answer shook me of course It does not seem that a god or such entity pulled me here, but there is one thing that doesn't make sense yet.

"I know dual spirits are powerful, but there is a limit, this seem to have passed that limit by quite the margin, and no offense but there many monsters spirits stronger than you" I mean looking at the stats and effects I would assume she was as strong as Dark Magician If not stronger, but that isn't really that strong compared to other spirits, especially divine beasts.

"No offense taken, after all I know my limitations and I am no arrogant enough to claim my power equals a god. When it comes to your question the answer is simple, I am incapable of doing what you are thinking, what I did while similar in result varied wildly in context"

It seems there were some pre-requisites for bringing me here, that's good would not want to know that sending people's soul through dimensions was easy, especially if that other person also had the meta-knowledge, I have shudders, yeah that could get really messy, quickly.

"May I ask what was so different in my situation compared to others?" I have been rather calm throughout this conversation, I mean I always was a calm person, but this may be a touch too much, could it be Joans doing? I mean an angel generating calm and peace isn't that weird of a theory "Question for later Jack" I gently remember myself

"I believe our partnership will work far better if we are honest which each other, so I see no reason not to tell you now. Essentially and keeping it simple, your soul and the soul that resided in that body are what could be consider "close"," she says making more curious though thankfully she answered the rest.

"Now I know how that sounds and I can see from the expression on your face that you don't understand. That's fine, expected really from a regular human being. What you must understand is that closeness when it comes to magic, and souls' "distance" doesn't exactly mean a physical measurement, what it really means is what makes you, well YOU, your dreams, ideals, creeds, preferences be they as simple as a favorite dish to as complex as what you desire in a life partner; and what made the previous wielder of that body HIM were extremely close, there were some differences of course but the very core of you two was as close as two souls could be, and that made my job much easier"

Well, this just got complicated, so what she means is that our personalities were really similar? Seems more complex than that, but what are the chances of two souls randomly being that close, going to ask that to Joan, she surprisingly beat me to the punch.

"No, it wasn't a coincidence that you were so similar" did, did she read my mind? I ask myself anxiously "No I didn't you dummy; you had your face all flustered," Oh that's awkward I thought with a lite blush "though we could talk with telepathy if you wanted" Wow I really need to ask the specifics of our... Bond?

"The reason that you two were so similar is the fact that you are parallels of each other, you share more than your first name, the previous Jack was what you would most likely be like if you were born in this dimension; It is because of that, I was able to bring you here" she said calmly, but her tone also carried an undertone of sadness, wait now that I think about it.

"Wait a minute, what exactly happened to the previous Jack, how am I able to use his body, am I possessing him like a ghost?!" I asked in rapid succession, and slightly nervous, I mean if you thought you were a dimensional parasite you would be too.

"Wait, a second and calm down master, just let me explain!" She said while I felt what could only be described as an ethereal slab in the back of the head.

Taking a deep breath, I let my emotions calm down and start listening to what she has to say. She seemed to prepare herself before starting what I don't doubt will be a conversation, she really doesn't feel comfortable talking about.

"The previous Jack was like you yes, but he also had a really important difference; Jack wasn't a healthy kid growing up, he suffered from a heart disease, which weaken him as a child, he did not have a lot of stamina, but the worst symptoms seemed to have gone away by the time he was a teenager thanks to treatment and modern medicine" she explained even though the tone she was using was enough to tell me that it didn't all end up smelling like roses.

"What you must comprehend is that while being bonded to a duel spirit can help, especially one like me, there are still limits, it is due to this that I was never able to communicate with Jack or should I say you, I was too busy making sure this body would not collapse in itself. So, when a spirit that looked so much like Jacks own, seemed to just wonder to my area of "view", in one of his worst episodes, I took the chance for what it was and brought you to each other instead of watching you slowly decay to an early grave; the result of which is you"

"Me? you make it sound like we fuse or something?" sure I felt odd, but I still felt very much like myself, unless the calm I have been feeling is the previous Jacks personality?

"That is because you are, you don't realize it yet, because it was such a seamless transition, but you without a doubt have Jacks memories and part of his personality" Thinking it over I try to focus on past experiences and got quite the surprise when a well of new memories hit me like a train wreck. Wow did this kid have a tough time, not only sickly, but his parents were, well not bad per se but definitely distant, though then again that is probably a good thing for me, that they seemed to hold a live and let live philosophy will make things much smoother, hell they aren't even in the country right now!

"Is it because of this... merge that I have felt differently since I came here?, calmer I suppose" I asked, what I believed to be an extremely important question. When I saw her shake her head, I grew a little worried.

"The answer to that is both yes and no, yes the merging of both souls has change slightly though that is more a change in perspective brought about by new memories, they do say that the past has a great impact on our conduct" she recited with certainty "The no part comes from the fact that I have been affecting your mind; now don't be hasty I know that sounds bad but let me explain!"

She says like it was not a big deal, before speaking rashly the last part once she saw what must have been an expression of disgust and a little fear. I will be the first to admit that the idea of having someone having an influence on my brain is one of my biggest fears, with the merge is different it's already done, and we weren't all that divergent from the start, so I can say not much has changed, but this has the potential to end wrong very wrong.

"The reason why I have affected you and continue to do so is not a choice of mine" say what now? "The moment I merged your souls together I also bonded myself with you, the differences between having a dual spirit with you accompanying you and being fuse with one cannot be overstated; for example, if you were to lose on shadow game a normal duel spirit would just be able to flee, while in my case I would be pulled with you to the shadow realm"

I was to stunned to reply, she bonded with me to such a deep level? Why though? And this situation reminds to much of Yubel and Jaden for it to not be related somehow, not taking notice of my confusion or perhaps despite it Joan continued her explanation.

"We are now for all intents and purposes linked for life, and one does not, go through such a massive change without some side effects, in this case we both have taking characteristics from the other, I am an angel, serenity is one my precepts in life, so it is easy to see how that can come about from the link; on the other hand I have experience this feeling of mischievousness and pridefulness, that I am pretty certain I didn't have before"

Well... shit, okay let's see, this DOES make some modicum of sense, they do say your deck represents what you are in this universe, so having such a close relationship with one of your cards, no doubt will affect your personality just like Yubel affected Jaiden, sure the method of fusion was different, but the end result isn't all that dissimilar.

"Okay, I think I understand" I say, and I can see some tension leaving her shoulders. At the end of the day does getting frustrated help me at all, the answer is a big fat no, so I believe I can roll with this.

"What other effects can I expect of this... partnership? at least tell me I am illness free" Man, I am already getting exited thinking of the possibilities, there have been some crazy powerful human in the YU-GI-OH universe, outside of dueling, hell the first main villain of the GX anime was able to restore his youth and make himself functionally immortal, the only problem was that he depended on three cards that were worth jack shit when it came to dueling.

"I am glad you asked... partner" she said like she was tasting how the word felt in her mouth, before she smiled and continued her explanation "First of all I am happy to announce, that you are officially healthy, more than healthy really, you are probably one of the healthiest men on the planet, and you are only at the beginning of your adaptation, once your body gets used to my power, you will be able of superhuman feats of strength and even some minor healing and regeneration".

Oh my god, after she ended her explanation, I was already celebrating inside my head "SCORE!", man is this good there are a lot of problems in this franchise that could be solved by punching the right people in the face, just imagine the dark scorpions come to steal the spirit keys, when suddenly, bang! Chick the yellow gets kicked through a window or Titan tries faking a shadow game only to get hit on his huge chin.

"So where do we go from here?" I asked getting out of my fantasies of bringing some common sense to this world.

"Well Jack that is really your choice, though if I remember correctly before all this happened you were going to take the entrance exam for Duel Academy"

Oh right, the exams are in a week, huh neat. I will have to duel before that to test if people were as bad at dueling in general as the anime, hoping that is the case at least, if I ever desire a challenge there is plenty of it, no need to have the general population growing a brain when it comes to a children's card game. Wow that came out odd.

"There is a tournament today, no? I previously wasn't physically fit enough to compete, and there was a rare card as a prize if I am not mistaken, well then Joan I know what we are going to do today" I couldn't help but get excited, if there was one thing that I loved when playing YU-GI-OH back home were local tournaments.

While preparing for the tournament I took a look through my deck. It was actually (all things consider) pretty good for the GX era , sure it didn't have an Archetype to help with the synergy, it was a Light, themed deck mainly focused on Fairies but what it did have were solid staples. Cards like Pot of greed, Monster reborn and Delinquent duo made a great base for spell cards, and the trap cards weren't that far behind, you will not see me complaining about having mirror force and bottomless trap hole on my deck. When it came to the actual monsters of the deck well Gellenduo was great for bringing out stronger Fairy type monsters and freed the brave wanderer was decent removal, there weren't any other high-level monsters like Joan but that was to be expected.

Later

Arriving at the local card shop where the tournament was going to take place, I pause after paying the entrance fee. It cost 500DP, that is like 50 bucks, man Kaiba really created his own cryptocurrency around his favorite card game; and the best part was that it actually worked! The value of DP in relation to the mighty dollar was better than 90% of all currency types in the southern hemisphere. It was not an exaggeration to say that Kaiba Corp was as powerful as literal countries.

At least I can benefit from this, I should probably start betting on all of Aster Phoenix matches that I can, after all I know for a fact that he was undefeated in his win streak.

After finishing my gambling plans, I was called by the announcer of the small tournament into a relatively simple dueling arena for my first duel of the day.

My first opponent was named Tristan, he was rather short, then again, a lot of people in this universe were short, just look at Jaiden and Syrus, there we also tall of course like Bastion and Zane, though maybe the hair added a lot to formers height just like Yugi. Besides that, he had blue hair that knowing this world was somehow natural styled all the way back showing his huge forehead.

I was cut of my musings, by my opponent coming to shake my hand.

"Hey, are you new here? I don't remember seeing you at least, anyways let's enjoy the duel shall we, though fair warning I have been fine tuning my deck recently. So, don't feel bad when I win" Was said with as much false modesty as I have seen in a long time. I had almost forgotten how most people seemed to have supreme confidence on their skills in this universe, then again that is expected when knowing what a Field Spell does is a question on an elite academy in this world.

"I wouldn't be so sure of yourself If I were you, that way when you get crushed you won't cry to much" I fire back accompanied by the biggest smug smirk I could give, which considering How much I looked like Cinder, well it was very smug.

I mean really who does this guy think he is messing with, I have the literal heart of the cards with me, and an eternal partner watching my back, he doesn't stand a chance.

Wow maybe I am as prideful as everyone else… nah I can actually back it up. Nevertheless, seeing his strained smile was worth the thrash talk.

"Well then save the jabbing for after the duel, commence round one!" Spoke loudly the referee. Well then, let's begin.

Turn 1

"I will start then if you are feeling so sure!" He shouted, and merely nodded my approval and drew my five cards, and focusing my attention on my opponent.

"Well then DUEL!" Jack LP:4000 Tristan:4000

I will draw!, and my first play will be summoning mushroom man in attack mode and activating the field spell Gaia Power which boosts the attack of all earth element monsters by 500 hundred at the cost of 400 defense, but they do say the best defense is a good offense"

Mushroom Man (Level 2/ EARTH /PLANT/1300 ATK / 200 DEF) (After boost)

I almost laughed out loud when I saw fucking mushroom man of all thing, bringing memories of seeing the abridged series. Though I will admit the memories I had of dueling were nothing like seeing the three-dimensional holograms come to life before me, making even Mushroom man look fearsome and the field spell was just incredible, Damm is Kaiba good.

"I will then set two cards face down and end my turn, your move now new kid" he said like he had just summoned Cyber End Dragon.

I drew my sixth card and a grin grew on my face "It is indeed my turn and this duel ends now!" I screamed dramatically for shits and giggles, sometimes you just have to enjoy the little things, and the atmosphere on tournament was infectious.

"First thing first, I activate Heavy Storm destroying all spell and trap cards from the field" I saw the field spell dissipate and the two face downs appeared for a second, "So they were Michizure and Reckless Greed, the former could have been annoying"

"I follow that play with the spell card Graceful Charity, drawing 3 cards, but I have to discard 2 afterwards" an angel appeared making a sign of prayer, while I did as the effect dictated

"I summon Gellenduo in attack mode" as soon as I let the card on my duel disk two small fairies appeared together on the field.

Gellenduo (Level 4/ Light/ Fairy/ ATK 1700/ DEF 0)

"But that is not all as I activate the spell card Double Summon which allows me to summon twice in the same turn," At this point I already see Tristan getting nervous, oh he should be.

"I sacrifice Gellenduo, to summon my ace monster, Guardian Angel Joan!" Joan appeared in a flourish of light her wings shining brightly, she even turned to me throwing me a cheeky wink.

Guardian Angel Joan (Level 8/ Light / Fairy/ATK 2800/ DEF 2000)

"Wait, a second, level 7 and above require two monsters to be sacrifice, and 2800 ATK points that's more than Dark Magician, that's cheating!" The fool screams, I had almost forgotten how the average knowledge of the cards in this world is very poor, people seemed to only know the cards on their deck, of pro duelist or the ones they lose too.

"Gellenduo is an effect monster, in this case the effect allows me to count it as two sacrifices if the monster is a Light Fairy Monster" I explain calmly, though in reality I am a little mad, how dares this little shit say I am a cheater.

"Next, I play Monster Reborn, which allows me summon a monster from either of our graveyards, I will be summoning a monster from my own, go forward Dunames Dark Witch" After the card was activated a cute fairy with purple hair and what seemed to be metallic wing appeared alongside Joan.

Dunames Dark Witch (Level 4/ Light/ Fairy/ ATK 1800/ DEF 1050)

"Now for the finishing move, I play United We Stand, this equip spell card grants the monster equipped with 800 attack and defense points for each monster on my side of the field, and I am equipping it to my Guardian Angel Joan!" Man was seeing him pale satisfying, I could get used to this, there are so many people who think they are invincible in this series I am sure bringing them down a peg or two will make having to stand there chattering almost worth it, almost.

Guardian Angel Joan (Level 8/ Light /Fairy/ ATK 4400/ DEF 3600)

"4-4000 th-ousand?" he asked as if hoping he was dreaming. Hell (or in this case I suppose Heaven), I would wish I was sleeping to in his case Joan wings grew immensely looking like they would fit a dragon and her sword grew a menacing gleam.

"Now this is the end for you, Dunames Dark Witch attack his mushroom man, Guardian Angel Joan attack his life points directly! Light Beam! HOLY NOVA!" I shouted, because when in Rome and all that. I have to say seeing my best card destroy my opponent is a feeling I didn't expect to enjoy this much... I could get used to it.

Tristan LP: 4000-1000

3000- 4400=0000

After my victory was declared I left the arena to wait for my next match, there wasn't much to tell to Tristan, it isn't like I was Jaiden, I wasn't interested in helping everyone I dueled, or teaching them a lesson, I mean sure if they had potential to help in the future like Syrus and Bastion I will, but those guys are an exception, Syrus has even more potential than Zane, and if the heart of the cards wasn't a thing Bastions way of looking at the game would have made him one of the best players out there.

The tournament went just like my first match after that, the average duelist just couldn't compete with my deck much less, my deck juiced with the heart of the cards.

The prize card for winning the tournament was a great acquisition for my deck. Meteor of Destruction is a good burn card normally, but in this world were duels started with only 4000 LP, well, it was great to put it simply, and it even was the anime version that "Joey" used, so there was no reason why I couldn't run three of them on deck.

I also learned that there was also a cash prize of 5000DP, which considering that I already had the same amount on my PDA, means I have the equivalent of 1000 dollars in my account which is just ridiculous, I will probably save it for when I arrive to the academy, students get a discount in buying singles if I remember correctly.

I spent the rest of the week, dueling who I could and brushing on the odd cards from my memory their stats, effects and the like, I remembered the test from the games I played and while many were stupid simple, they could always ask you curved ball, like what is Zone Eater DEF STAT? Or questions like that related to cards no one plays.

Finally, though the day of the exam has arrived, I was feeling really confident all things consider, maybe I will meet the "main gang", how exiting, "what do you thin Joan?" learning how to speak with Joan in my mind was so worth it, now I won't be dragged to a psych ward for speaking to the air.

"I can feel your excitement Jack, maybe you are expecting to meet some beautiful girl? "She teased me lightly, man I sure wasn't expecting for the literal angel to be so troublesome, still like her though.

Well, there is no point staying home.

Duel Academy, I am going to become the new king and that's a fact the only thing I got to do is beat Zane Truesdale.

I can not wait.

Well there is that, I suppose.

I am already making the second chapter, that being said I have some ideas to run through you guys.

1) I will use cards and their effects from the anime when I think it will make for a healthier game and story as you guys saw with meteor of destruction, I will not do the same with cards like graceful dice ( I mean REALLY multipling your monsters attack by six is to much)

2) I will NEVER do the thing were everyones deck suddenly from one reason or another get brought the modern era, I think that kind of stuff can be a fic killer.

3) That being said I may bring ONE or TWO cards I believe are necesary to pad an Archetype .

4) Jack will have more than one deck ( and you guys can send deck recipes if you want, just no blue eyes or something stupid like that), but the main duels of the series will be with the Fairy Deck (the Deck WILL change during the fic but cards like Joan have to stay)

Also I would like your guys feelings on a Lightsworn deck, if you like the idea or you think it should be a secondary Deck.
