A/N at the bottom
When Jaune Arc walked up to the Headmaster's office he was shaking. When he had randomly been called to report there Jaune had gone through a quick review of everything that could have gotten him in trouble, but he couldn't think of anything he had done recently. So it had to be about his transcripts and the thought of being expelled sent shivers up his spine. It had to be now of all times; he was finally starting to show some improvement and now he was going to be kicked out.
"Mister Arc you may come in." Ozpin's voice echoed through the corridor.
Jaune stepped into the office and took a seat in the chair in front of the desk.
"Mister Arc, do you know why I called you here?"
"No." He could feel himself shaking.
"As you know all of the first-year teams were supposed to go on missions this week."
Jaune nods So it isn't about my transcripts He infers
"And as you also know your team was supposed to assist a Village outside the walls."
"Yep."
"And your team decided to go to Vale to assist Team RWBY with the breach of Vales walls."
"Yeah, I got a call from Ruby"
Flashback
Jaune ran into the battlefield; Crocea Mors at the ready, the rest of team JNPR by his side prepared to charge into battle like a fully functional team-and they're gone. Jaune sighed and put up some bravado
"Alright who's first!"
"I know you did it."
"Oh," Jaune replies lamely
Ozpin stands up from his chair and turns around to face the window obscuring his face
"Even though your team didn't go on your mission I still gave you the credits."
"You didn't have to do that sir."
"It's the least I could do, You and your team fought bravely" Ozpin stated. Something about this comment rubbed Jaune the wrong way
"Anyone would've done it."
"Not any first year student."
"And yet 7 people died," Jaune responds bitterly
"You tried your best."
"AND YET MY BEST WASN'T ENOUGH!" Jaune screams. Ozpin turns to face Jaune, their eyes meet thin cedar against steely cobalt.
"Is that why you want to be a Huntsman?" Ozpin inquires.
"Pardon?"
"Is that why you want to be a Huntsman? To protect those beneath you?"
"No! No no no. That's not why I want to be a Huntsman."
"Then why do you?"
"I want to protect those who can't protect themselves."
"Isn't that the same thing?" Ozpin calmly quizzed.
"No." Jaune rises to his feet, "It's different because they're not beneath me, no one is."
"And why is that?"
"Because I'm just a 17-year-old child who ran away from his family, dreaming to be a
hero-" Jaune covers his mouth.
"Relax Mister Arc I've known about your transcripts since the moment you applied, truthfully I am slightly offended that you would believe that I wouldn't find out."
"But why would you let me in if you knew that my transcripts were fake?"
And more importantly, Jaune thought, Did I let myself be threatened by Cardin for nothing?
"That is a discussion for another time. Please inform me more on your reasons for becoming a Huntsman."
"I… okay, in a comic I once read the phrase 'with Great power there must also come great responsibility," which means that when you have an ability you have a responsibility to use it for good. But that's wrong."
"Oh, and why is that, Mister Arc."
"Even when you don't have things like Aura and Semblances you still have an obligation to help people. You don't have to be a Superhero or Huntsman to help people. You could be a doctor and heal people, you could be a social worker and give kids a home, you could even just volunteer or do community service."
"And yet you decided to be a Huntsman."
"It was the way I wanted to help people by keeping them from danger, protecting them from Grimm and criminals. I wanted to be their shield. I just decided too late."
"It doesn't seem like you were too late," Ozpin replies.
"What do you mean?"
"You are here right? You're here training to be a Huntsman."
"Yeah but-" Jaune tries
"No buts, you're here training to be a Huntsman, you passed initiation, you succeeded where many who went to combat school failed. Yeah, you had your team and friends to help you, but a good Huntsman should know how to rely on their teammates. And you are still here correct, even with no previous experience or training you are still here working hard to catch up and even surpass your peers."
"I guess you're right." Jaune mused "Does this mean I get most improved in the yearbook?"
Ozpin chuckled, "We shall see."
"I would like to thank you though,"
"What for Mister Arc?"
"Thank you for giving me that chance, I promise I won't disappoint you."
"I know you won't." Taking that as his cue to leave, Jaune turned around and walked out of the office.
Once he was sure Jaune was gone Ozpin called for Ms. Goodwitch.
"Glynda, please add Mister Arc to the list of students of interest."
"Are you sure Ozpin?
"Mister Arc has proven that he already has the heart of a Huntsman no, he has the Heart of a Hero."
A/N: Firstly this was meant to be published yesterday, I know it sucks ass but I do plan on writing more on this and making it better. The only reason I published it today was because yesterday was my Birthday and Celebrate Bisexuality Day. I would really like constructive criticism because I really want to improve this and my writing ability.
