Oh, boy. I am excited to release this one. This chapter was a lot of fun to write and I really hope you enjoy it. This is a long one too, but I didn't want to release it as a two parter. Let's get into the reviews!
404, Matinas, Daedakus, Aidan and Guest: thank you for the predictions!
WomanlikeMegan, GoatedReads and tdfan: Thank you. Your support means a lot.
Kirbystar: I'm glad you liked the Sammy/Amy stuff in the last chapter.
Whatheheck: Believe it or not, Duncan and Sanders grew on ME too. But now, I kinda ship it hard.
InfinityWizard: A while ago, you asked me why I wrote Sammy's name as Samey. I think you got the answer in the last chapter. Lol.
The McPlane was flying through the blue sky. "Last time on Total Drama Legends," Chris's voice announced. "We went back to where it all began. Italy! More specifically, Rome. The competitors battled it out like the gladiators of old. There were races, arrows, horses, chariots...ok, wheelbarrows, all culminating to the ultimate five way clashing of swords. Who was gonna come out on top? The tough, but reckless Jo? The competent, level headed Sanders? Her ex-convict boyfriend, Duncan? Or could it be the scheming sister known as Amy? In the end, it turned out to be...Sammy. And yes, you heard right, I called her Sammy. Why? Because she did the unthinkable and actually chose to eliminate her own sister. Talk about a complicated family."
The camera flashed, revealing Chris in his usual co-pilot's seat, with Chef next to him. "I don't blame her though. In a high stakes competition like this, you only need to be looking out for one person...yourself. And we're gonna put that to the test." He rubbed his hands devilishly. "We have a few surprises for these competitors. Ones that might change the way they look at the rest of the competition. We just hope they can handle the massive bombshell we have in store for them." He chuckled. "I know you can't wait to see it, so don't go anywhere. You're watching an all new episode of...Total...Drama...L...egends!"
Sammy sat at one of the tables, in the first class section. She had her elbows on the table and her head rested on her palms. The Twin was staring forward, clearly with a lot of her mind. She sat in silence for a while, until she heard something. It sounded like a tapping noise. It was persistent and very annoying. Sammy snapped out of her trance and looked around. She couldn't see anything that indicated where the sound was coming from.
Maybe there's something wrong with the engine. She thought, getting up. She passed by a covered window and noticed that the sound was getting louder. Curious, she walked towards it and lifted the cover. Then her eyes went wide and her jaw dropped.
"Amy?!"
Sure enough, Sammy was right. There was Amy, right outside her window, standing on the wing and looking terrified.
"Amy?!" Her sister shrieked again. "What happened? How did you get there?"
Whatever Amy said, it was impossible to hear because of the window. Sammy thought quickly and looked for a door. She saw the emergency exit, next to the table and ran to it. Without any hesitation, she pulled the handle and opened the door. The wind was howling and she almost slipped. "Amy!?" She called out. "How did you get on the wing?!"
The Terrified Twin looked up at her. "My parachute went off early and it got snagged on the wing. I had to pull myself up, but I lost the chute."
Sammy was scared, but knew she had to act. "I'll go get Chris. He can land the plane and then-"
"No!" Her sister screamed. "You have to help me now! I don't know how much longer I can hold on for!"
Sammy thought about arguing, but seeing the look on Amy's face was enough to convince her. "Alright," She said nervously. She extended her arm. "Grab my hand!"
Amy tried grabbing it. "I can't reach! You have to come closer!"
Sammy looked down. All she could see was white clouds. We're really high up She told herself. But despite that, she grabbed a pole from the inside of the plane and reached out again. "Try it now!"
Amy did so, but it still wasn't enough. Sammy extended more. This time, their hands connected and they grabbed each other. Sammy sighed in relief. "Alright, now I'll-" Suddenly, the sky went pitch black. The wind died down and all was quiet. "What's going-" Sammy looked back at her sister and nearly went pale.
Amy was staring back at her, but her expression was cold and her eyes were covered by shadows. Now Sammy was even more scared than before. "Amy, what are you-"
"You betrayed me," came the frosty reply. "I wanted to be your sister again, so badly, and you ruined it. Like you've ruined everything before."
"Amy, I didn't-"
"You still deny it!" The now unrecognizable figure snapped. "You've always been selfish and always play the victim. Did you ever think about how I felt? Did you ever stop to think about someone other than yourself?" She paused. Sammy looked down, thinking about her sister's words. Amy suddenly tightened her grip.
Sammy winced. "Ow, Amy! What are you-"
"Now you will pay!" An evil grin formed across her face. "Have a nice trip." She pulled forward, pulling Sammy from the pole and out of the plane. All Sammy could do is scream as she plummeted into the darkness. The last thing she heard was the maniacal laughter from her sister as she watched the plane disappear and everything went black.
Sammy suddenly opened her eyes and let out a yelp of terror. Her body jolted up and she grabbed onto whatever was underneath her. She was breathing heavily, as she looked up.
Wait a minute... She started to gather her thoughts. She looked around and realized she was in the first class section. The thing she was holding onto was a blanket. She finally saw that she was back in her PJs and laying in one of the foldout beds.
Sammy breathed a sigh of relief and rested her head against a pillow. She was still trying to calm herself, when her eyes shot open again. Scrambling out the bed, knocking the blanket off, in the process, she ran to one of the windows on the other side.
She opened the window and pressed her face up to it. Ok, there's the wing and there's...Her heart was still pounding as she scanned the outside. She looked at the plane's wing and saw…nothing. No one was on the wing.
Sammy closed the window cover and took a deep breath. Then she leaned back against the chair and stared at the ceiling, letting out a long sigh.
Later that morning, Jo found herself in a familiar spot. Stuck sitting across from two sickly sweet lovebirds. Duncan and Sanders were next to each other and, much to Jo's disgust, were holding hands.
Confessional (Jo): She let out a grunt. "It's bad enough those two are an actual couple, but they actually have to show it in public." She pointed at her mouth and made a gagging sound. "Talk about barf inducing."
Static.
"Y'know?" The Jockette spoke up. "Some people might call this a show of public indecency."
Duncan and Sanders gave her a weird look. "What?" They both said.
Jo held up her hands. "I'm just saying."
"Well, do us all a favor and stop saying." Duncan glared. "You're just jealous that you don't have anyone looking out for you."
The Jockette scoffed. "Whatever. Relationships, on a reality show, is a disaster waiting to happen. You're both holding each other back, and you don't even realize it. But if it means an easy win for me, go right ahead."
Duncan was about to retort, but Sanders spoke up. "Didn't Mike and Zoey make it to the finale of All-Stars? While they were still a couple?"
"That hardly counts. Spikey spent most of his time as some evil dude-"
"And weren't you the third person eliminated?" Duncan interrupted, a sly grin on his face.
Jo scowled, while the couple laughed. "Well, you know what? I-"
"Let's just not give her the attention." Sanders whispered. "She's not worth it."
"Couldn't agree with you more, babe." Duncan chuckled.
The two immediately went back to talking, completely cutting Jo out of their minds. The Jockette stopped, realizing she was being ignored.
Confessional (Jo): She sat with her arms folded, a venomous scowl plastered on her face. She harrumphed. "Rude…"
Static.
Sammy sat at the bar, with a bowl of fruit. She stuck a fork into a grape and plopped it into her mouth. She took her time chewing it, as a lot was on her mind.
Confessional (Sammy): "I'm starting to wonder if I made the right choice to eliminate my sister. It didn't feel right, but we were still getting along, weren't we?" She let out a heavy sigh. "Maybe getting a second opinion would help."
Static
The Twin had just eaten a piece of pineapple, when she heard footsteps. She turned and raised an eyebrow. There was Chef, with a large sandwich, in hand. He saw the nearby couch and sat on it. Sammy was confused, but realized something.
Confessional (Sammy): "Well, beggars can't be choosers."
Static.
"Excuse me, Chef?" she asked. "What are you doing here?"
Chef, who was in the middle of unwrapping the sandwich, gave a dull glare. "I'm allowed to have a break for breakfast, ain't I?"
Sammy was about to ask who was flying the plane or why his breakfast was just a large sandwich, but decided against it. She took a deep breath and turned to face him. "If it's alright with you, can I get your advice on something?"
Chef rolled his eyes. "What do I look like: a therapist? Some know it all who's had the answers to everything? You want my advice? Sit down, shut up and let me enjoy my moment of peace." He went back to focusing on his sandwich.
Sammy let out a sigh of defeat. "Sorry…" She turned on the stool. "I've been sitting on what happened in Rome all night, and I really wanted to talk to someone about it." She went back to slowly eating her breakfast.
Chef was just about to take his first bite, but stopped and looked at the Twin. She had her back to him, so he couldn't see her face. But, even so, he had an idea how she was feeling. He thought for a moment and glanced back at his sandwich. He grumbled, put his breakfast down and headed towards the bar. "Alright, I'm only gonna tell you this once, so listen up." He sat a few stools away. Sammy was surprised, but didn't say anything. Chef began. "Now, I don't know what you, or your sister, have been through, but I think it's safe to say you haven't gotten along that well, for a while."
Sammy nodded. "Not since we were kids."
"Don't interrupt me." Chef pointed. "But, all that changed, not too long ago, I'm assuming. But then you decided to throw it all away." Sammy frowned, wondering if Chef was actually helping her. "I think you should first remind yourself that you can't take anything back. You made the decision, so now you have to live with it. Trust me, it's easier if you just accept it." Sammy thought about what he said. "And if you really want my opinion, I think you did the right thing. You thought about what you were doing and didn't do it just for laughs. You did it for yourself, and there ain't anything wrong with that."
The Twin was stunned. She had not expected Chef, of all people, to say that to her. The two stood in silence for a few seconds, before she spoke again. "Wow...thank you, Chef. That...that actually made me feel a little better."
Chef couldn't help but grin, but he quickly put it away. He then got off the stool and headed back to his couch. "If you got anything else to tell me, I don't care. I earned this break."
Sammy smirked. She could tell he was happy about what he did, even if he didn't want to admit it.
The plane was beginning to descend. It was about to land at an airport. Chris' voice spoke to the competitors. "Once we land, we'll take a shuttle to the next challenge site."
"Where are we exactly?" Sanders asked.
"I'm glad you asked, we're in…" The camera suddenly flashed white and the competitors were standing in front of a large building. Chris had his arms outstretched. "...Thailand! More specifically, Bangkok. And even more specifically, one of the largest shopping malls in the world: CentralWorld!" The competitors looked up. Though they could only see the front entrance, they could see just how massive the structure was. Chris continued. "At almost six million square feet, Central World is the fifth largest mall in the world."
"Only fifth?" Duncan questioned. "What's a matter, Chris? Your pockets empty or something?" Sanders giggled.
Chris rolled his eyes. "Very funny, Duncan. At least I-"
"And where is everyone?" Jo said, looking around. "I thought this was supposed to be a shopping centre."
Chris groaned at being interrupted. But Jo was right. Aside from them, no one else was around. "I was able to rent out a portion of the mall," Chris explained. "It might not seem like much, but even a small section is still very big." Chef suddenly pulled up in a golf cart. Behind it was a roofless four seat trailer. Chris pointed at it. "Get in and we'll head to the challenge site."
As Chef and Chris drove through the mall, the competitors looked around. They saw all various stores. There wasn't a single person in them and no one was walking in the halls. There were a few employees in the stores, but that was it.
Sanders didn't know how long they were gonna be on the cart, so decided to start a conversation. She turned to The Twin. "Hey, Sammy. How are you feeling?" The Blonde looked at her and raised an eyebrow. "Y'know, since the whole thing in Rome?"
Sammy gave a somewhat uncomfortable expression and looked down. "I don't know. I'm still debating if I made the right choice or not. But, I guess I should just accept the fact that I can't take it back." She glanced at Chef.
Sanders gave a pitying look, debating if she should've brought it up. Jo, who was next to Sammy, scoffed. "Well, if you ask me, that smooth brained blonde had it coming." She looked at Sammy. "You made the right choice, as far as I'm concerned."
Sanders frowned. "Jo, be respectful. It wouldn't hurt to-"
"It's alright, Sanders." Sammy interrupted. "Honestly, hearing more people say I made the right choice makes me feel...a little better." A thought struck her and she couldn't help but laugh. "Even if it is coming from Jo."
Sanders, Duncan and the Jockette all went wide eyed. Sammy smiled nervously. Suddenly, Duncan burst into laughter. "Good one." He held up his hand. "Welcome to the 'everyone hates Jo' club." Sanders couldn't help but snicker.
Sammy seemed proud of her joke and graciously accepted the high-five. Jo watched her with suppressed fury.
Soon, Chef and Chris arrived at a food court. There were small cafes and food stands all around, with lots of tables and chairs. Like earlier, there was no one there and all the establishments were closed. Chef braked the kart and got out. Chris and the others followed.
The competitors quickly noticed something. In the center of all the tables there was a small elevated stage. On it, were four large and tall presents. They were red and white and each had a bow on the top. The competitors took their seats, at one of the tables.
"Alright, everyone." Chris said with a grin. He walked towards the boxes. "You probably noticed these presents. You'll be happy to know I got each of you something. And trust me, when I say, you will enjoy them."
Jo, Duncan, Sanders and Sammy looked at each other nervously.
Confessional (Sammy): "Knowing Chris, the surprise is probably a bear…"
Confessional (Jo): "...a shark…"
Confessional (Duncan): "...a sasquatch…"
Confessional (Sanders): "...or some weird combination of all three."
Static
Chris stared at the four, not breaking his smile. They all looked back at him. No one moved or said anything. Chris' face slowly fell. "What are you guys doing?" He asked. "Do none of you want these gifts?" The competitors didn't answer him. Chris gaped at them. "I can't believe this. I do something nice for you guys and you seriously want to question it?"
Sammy, reluctantly, spoke up. "Chris, no offense…"
"Actually," Duncan interrupted. "All the offense."
The Twin continued. "But, after all you've put us through, it's hard to imagine you actually have something nice, under those boxes."
Chris grumbled to himself and looked at Chef. "Can you believe these guys?" He whispered. Chef just shrugged. The Host turned back to Sammy. "Ok…" He mockingly spoke. "How 'bout this? Chef will open the presents for you, then we'll laugh when we see just how wrong you are."
Sammy was still unsure, but figured that the present was going to be opened, no matter what. She nodded. Chris turned and pointed at the far left box. Chef walked up to it, and started lifting the top. The competitors braced themselves for what they were about to face. Chef stepped back and the four sides of the boxes dropped to the ground.
Inside the box was a...woman. She was wearing a red sweater with white cuffs, as well as white pants. Her shoulder length hair was blonde and curved at the tips.
Jo, Duncan and Sanders stared confusingly at her. "It's a woman." Duncan confirmed.
"Is she supposed to fight her?" Jo speculated.
"Why is that your first guess?"
"I don't know. Chris has made us do worse."
Duncan shrugged in agreement. Sanders raised an eyebrow. "Guys, I think that's-"
"MOM!?"
Sammy stood up suddenly, nearly knocking Jo off her seat. She looked absolutely shocked, as she tried to comprehend what was going on. The woman, in question, looked at her and smiled. That was enough to convince Sammy. She sprinted towards the stage and practically dove into the woman's waiting arms.
"Hi, Sammy." She said quietly.
Sammy's response was nothing more than muffled blubbering into her mom's shirt.
Confessional (Sammy): She was fanning her eyes. "Oh, man. I was so close to breaking my promise with Leshawna." She pondered for a moment. "Or would she be mad at me if I didn't cry when I saw my mom?"
Static
Still unable to properly speak, Sammy just tightened her hug. Her mother widened her smile.
From the table, Duncan, Jo and Sanders were still watching. Chris turned to them. "In case you guys couldn't figure it out, that woman is Sammy's Mom, Deborah."
"We got that, Einstein." Jo snarked.
"What exactly is she doing here?" Duncan asked.
Chris waved him off. "I'll get to that later." He pointed at the Ex-Con. "In the meantime, your present is next."
The Ex-Con gulped. After seeing what was under Sammy's present, he was sort of hoping that a sasquatch was under the box. Chris noticed it and grinned cheekily. "Whatsa matter, Duncan? Wondering who we got? Anyone you don't want to see?"
"A lot more than you think," Duncan muttered to himself. He suddenly felt a hand wrap around his fingers. He turned to look at Sanders, who gave him a reassuring smile. Duncan took a deep breath and nodded.
Chef opened his gift and revealed the surprise. Once the sides fell, Duncan froze, with his mouth agape. It was revealed to be two people inside. One was a tall guy. He had a green shirt and was wearing a white skull cap. The other guy was a pink button up (that wasn't actually buttoned up) and a cowboy hat. In case you couldn't figure it out, it was…
"It's your buddies from season one: Geoff and DJ!"
Duncan continued to stare. He looked over to Sanders, to make sure he wasn't seeing things. She smiled warmly and let go of his hand. The Ex-Con got up and walked towards them, still with his mouth hanging open.
"It's been a while, man." DJ exclaimed, walking down the platform.
"We got some serious catching up to do," Geoff added. Soon, they were standing right in front of their friend. Geoff held up his hand. "Up top, bro."
The Ex-Con kept staring. He didn't know what to say. After a few seconds of silence, Duncan suddenly jumped forward and wrapped his arms around his friends' necks. DJ and Geoff were caught off guard and nearly fell over. They looked at each other, both with the same idea. Is Duncan hugging us?
"I missed you assholes so damn much," Duncan sniffed.
His two friends looked at him, then back to each other, before smiling. They both returned the hug. "Us too, Duncan." whispered DJ. "Us too."
As Duncan, Geoff and DJ walked to a nearby table. The Ex-Con had his arms over both of his old friends shoulders. Sanders couldn't help but smile at just how happy her boyfriend was.
"Sanders." Chris called. "Any guesses as to who we got for you?"
"I think I have a good idea." Sanders chuckled, looking at the box Chris was standing next to. Strangely, it was bigger than the other three.
Chef took off the top to the present. Sanders immediately laughed when she saw who it was.
"What up, partner?!" Macarthur exclaimed.
Sanders' smile only grew as she stepped towards her friend. "Good to see you too, Mac-" Suddenly, she froze and her eyes locked onto something. Macarthur gave a knowing look and stepped to the side.
Macarthur wasn't the only one inside the box. Behind the burly cadet stood a man. A tall, somewhat portly, man with a short brown afro. He was wearing a policeman's uniform, complete with tie and badge.
Duncan, from his table, was looking at the man. Immediately, he was reminded of a talk he had with his girlfriend.
Chris chuckled. "Sanders, I see your shock. But you are not seeing things. We did bring back your partner, Macarthur, but we also got...your dad, Sergeant...Sanders!"
The man gave a warm smile. Sanders suddenly felt herself breathing more rapidly. Her eyes started to water.
Macarthur grunted. "Just get over here, and give this old man a hug!"
Sanders couldn't hold it in anymore, and she bolted towards her dad, tears already streaming down her face. She dove to him and wrapped her arms around his neck, crying into his shoulder. The Sargeant smiled warmly, and returned the hug. The man was so tall, his daughter's feet were hanging above the floor. Not only that, his large arms completely engulfed her body.
Macarthur was also starting to tear up. "Oh my god," she sobbed. "I promised myself I wouldn't cry…" She proceeded to sob into her arm.
While DJ and Geoff watched on (the former of whom was also in tears), Duncan stared, absolutely flabbergasted.
Confessional (Duncan): He looked to be processing something in his head. "Her dad's...a sergeant?"
Confessional (Sanders): She wiped her eyes and gave a smile. "When I was five, my neighbor's house was broken into. The babysitter had left early, and the only person in the house was my friend, Serena. I heard the noise and I told my dad. Without asking any questions, he ran out the house and into the neighbor's." She took a deep breath and exhaled. "It was a good twenty five minutes before more cops showed up and my dad...my dad came out, carrying my friend in his arms." She paused, thinking back. "That was the moment I wanted to be a cop and help people." She looked at the camera. "My dad's an inspiration to me. We're really close." She thought for a moment, and chuckled. "I hope he and Duncan can get along."
Confessional (Duncan): By now, the Ex-Con had a death grip on his mohawk. He looked to be in the middle of a panic attack. "Her Dad's...A SERGEANT!?"
Static
While the Sanders' walked off stage, Jo looked at the last box, unimpressed. Chris noticed this. "What's on your mind, Jo?"
The Jockette just scoffed. "You're not getting me, McLean." She shot a thumb at the others. "The others might be overly emotional weaklings, but I'm made of a lot stronger stuff." She hit her chest for emphasis, then crossed her arms. "So whatever you got, bring it on."
Chris glanced over at Chef, who was looking back at him. Both had cheeky grins. "Open it." Chris said. Chef was more than happy to oblige.
The sides of the box fell, and everyone was surprised by who was under. It was young light-skinned women. She was wearing a white bell sleeve crop top and white pants. Half of her head was shaved and her long black hair went all the way down to her waist.
Duncan and Sanders both looked confused, but Sammy seemed to recognize her. The Ex-Con turned to look at Jo. The Jockette was still standing firm, with her arms crossed, but something was different. Duncan could see she was shaking, and her mouth was twitching. Is she trying to hold back something He thought, then looked over at the woman. Who is this chick?
He didn't have to wonder for long, as Chris walked up. "Most of you are probably wondering who this woman is." He paused. "This...is Ambie. An internet sensation with several social media accounts, all with nearly half a million followers." He smirked, and looked at the Jockette. "But what does Jo have to do with this?" He pointed at the woman. "Ambie is not only an internet celebrity, but she's also...Jo's girlfriend."
The competitors felt their jaws hit the floor upon hearing this.
Confessional (Sanders): "Jo has a girlfriend?!"
Confessional (Sammy): "Jo's dating an internet celebrity?!"
Confessional (Duncan): "Someone voluntarily decided to date Jo?! Like, were there no other options?!"
Static
"There's my little Joey!" Ambie called, with a big smile.
Everyone else looked at Jo, all thinking the same thing. How on earth did Jo land this girl?
Jo's face blushed red, but she still maintained her cold disposition (as best she could).
"Joey?!"
The Jockette turned and glared. There was Duncan, keeling over and clutching his stomach, dying of laughter. His two buddies looked down at him, wondering if he was going to be ok.
Jo's face only went brighter, as she narrowed her eyes. Suddenly, Ambie ran to her and wrapped her in a tight hug. She pressed her cheek against her girlfriend's. "I missed you so much!" She beamed.
Jo glanced at her, then looked back at Duncan, who was still struggling to breath. She sighed. "I missed you too," She mumbled quietly.
Ambie was so happy, she planted a big kiss on Jo's cheek. The Jockette's eyes went wide, and she blushed the deepest shade of red possible, as she saw all the people staring at her.
Confessional (Jo): She sighed. "Fine. Since I know you nosey perverts are dying to know..." She gathered her thoughts. "After String-Bean won the million bucks, he gave some of his winnings to me. I used it to build my dream gym. Then I thought, being the genius that I am, I could make some money by letting other people use it. It brought in a decent profit and, well…" Her cheeks grew warm, despite her forced frown. "She started showing up, as a regular, and...I think you can figure out what happened next." She groaned and put her hand to her forehead. "Why did Chris have to bring her here? I've built up too much of a reputation as an ass kicker. I'm basically the female equivalent of the Terminator. I can't have the others thinking I'm some lovey dovey petal puller." She thought for a moment. "I hate to say it, but I can't let Ambie ruin this for me."
Static.
Chris watched as the competitors reconnected with their friends and family. He clapped his hands twice. "May I have your attention for a minute, everyone?" The competitors and their loved ones turned to look at him. "The interns are still setting up today's challenge, so I'd like to let you know of a few things. Firstly, today's episode will not end in elimination. It will be a reward challenge." The competitors all sighed in relief. Geoff and Duncan high fived, while Sanders hugged her Dad by the arm. Chris continued, pulling a small card out from behind his back. "I'll explain the challenge later, but I can tell you what you're fighting for. The card, in my hand, has $5000 on it. The winner of today's challenge will receive it and go on an all out shopping spree, with their loved ones."
Ambie's face immediately lit up. She hugged her girlfriend's arm. "Jo, if you win that, I will love you forever." She said aloud
Jo remained stone faced, but was clearly aware of all the stares she was receiving.
Chris chuckled. "You picked a good one, Jo." The Jockette immediately blushed and looked down. "Anyways, I'll get back to you all in twenty minutes. You may use this time to catch up." He grinned and waited for the competitors to thank him. He didn't receive any, as the competitors immediately went back to talking with their loved ones. Chris' face fell.
Confessional (Chris): He sat with his arms crossed and was frowning. "Ok, I get it. The competitors still don't like me. It's like they're still not over me attempting to leave Courtney in the middle of the desert. It was in the contract and she-" Immediately, his phone rang. Confused, Chris pulled it out of his pocket and pressed a button. "Who's this? I'm in the middle of a-" His face quickly went pale. "Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to...yes...no, I won't bring it up again...It was...completely my fault...ok, thank you...goodbye." He hung up and nervously glanced at the camera. "How are her lawyers that fast?"
Static
Sanders and her Dad quickly found a table to sit at. After taking her seat, Sanders looked up and immediately noticed Macarthur, grinning like a child. Sanders raised an eyebrow. "What are you doing?"
"I think you already know." Macarthur responded, not breaking her smirk.
"I really don't."
"Oh, I think you-"
"Macarthur. What are you talking about?"
Her partner pointed, and Sanders looked. Macarthur was pointing at the table that Duncan, Geoff and DJ were sitting. The Skinny Cadet looked back at Macarthur. "You're referring to me and Duncan, aren't you?"
Macarthur vigorously nodded. "I gotta know the deets about it."
"Macarthur, I'm not talking about this in front of my dad."
The Burly Cadet put her hands up. "Nononono, I wasn't making fun of it. Honestly, I kinda ship it. Though, I'm a little disappointed that you gave up so easily." She pointed at her partner and gave her a serious look. "You almost ruined Danders for me."
Sanders let out a heavy sigh.
Confessional (Sanders): "I forgot just how...Macarthur-like Macarthur can be...and I kinda missed it." She broke out into a small smile.
Static.
"I would like to talk about him too, actually." Sarge suddenly said.
Macarthur and Sanders both turned to him. "You're not about to ruin this for me too, are you Sarge?" Macarthur pointed.
Sanders pushed her hand down, and glared. Macarthur immediately realized what she was doing and quietly calmed down. Sanders turned to her dad. She had an idea of what he would say, but was still nervous.
"I like him." he said plainly. "He seems nice."
Sanders let out a sigh of relief. "Thank you. I know it's a little soon, but I'd love it if you guys could talk at some point."
Sarge smiled and nodded. "Of course." He reached and put his hand on his daughter's shoulder. "As long as he makes you happy, I'm more than willing to talk with him."
Sanders smiled warmly and put her own hand on her Dad's. "That really means a lot, Dad. I missed you so much."
"You too, Mikayla."
The two continued smiling, until Sarge put his hand down. Sanders turned to her partner and chuckled knowingly. "Alright, Macarthur. What do you gotta say about me and Duncan?"
The Burly Cadet's cracked her knuckles. "Oh, it's way more than that. First, I wanna talk about…"
From another table, Duncan watched the trio nervously.
Confessional (Duncan): He had his hand on his forehead and was sweating nervously. "Why couldn't her dad be a janitor, or a dentist? Those guys aren't intimidating. And, seriously, does the guy eat twelve pound steaks everyday? How is he so massive?"
Static
DJ and Geoff noticed the panicked look in their friend's eyes. They glanced at each other, then back to Duncan. "You good, Duncan?" DJ asked.
The Ex-Con snapped from his trance and turned to him. "Oh...I'm...I'm good." He shook his head and took a deep breath. Then he looked at his friends and gave a small smile. "What about you guys? I haven't seen you in forever, what have I missed?"
Geoff and DJ both grinned. "Glad you asked, dude." Geoff started. "Bridge and I have been going steady for a while. We're actually working on opening a surf shop."
Duncan nodded and turned to DJ. "What about you, Deej?"
The Big Guy smiled. "Not too much. Found a nice job at a cat cafe."
Duncan gave him a weird look. "A cat cafe?"
"It pays well and I like the animals." DJ shrugged. "I actually started talking to someone."
"That's awesome, dude. You gotta tell me about it."
DJ opened his mouth, but Geoff tapped him on the shoulder. "Hold that thought, bro." The Surfer said, looking at Duncan. "We've already shared our piece. Now it's your turn." Duncan gulped. He knew what Geoff was referring to. "What is going on between you and Sanders?"
The Ex-Con groaned slightly. Geoff and DJ were both staring at him with cheeky grins. It was bound to happen at some point. He thought. Might as well get it over with. "Well," He began. "I'm...dating her. A cop."
"What's she like?" DJ asked.
Duncan felt his cheeks warming up, as he scratched the back of his head. "I dunno. She's...cool, I guess. She's easy to talk to, she's straight with me and...I-I guess...she's kinda hot." He could see DJ and Geoff sniggering. He gave an annoyed look. "Alright, if you guys have anything funny to say, just say it. I knew this was going to happen at some point, so lay it on me."
Geoff put his hands up. "Chillax, man. We ain't gonna judge. If you like her, that's all that matters." DJ nodded in agreement.
Duncan quickly forgot to be upset, and smiled. I need to call these guys more often.
Deborah sat across from her daughter. She was smiling, but it soon fell. "Sammy…" She stopped whatever she was going to say, as Sammy kept glancing to the side. "Samantha, are you ok?"
Sammy finally snapped back and looked at her mom. "Oh...I'm sorry, I just…" She pointed. "Ambie's over there."
Deborah looked over at the table that Jo and her girlfriend were sitting at. "Sammy, I don't see why…" She trailed off, noticing her daughter was already getting up. "Where are you going?"
Sammy stared at her, giving a guilty look, but also walking away. "I'm sorry, mom. I really, really want to talk to you about what's happened, but that's...that's Ambie. She's, like, my biggest inspiration and this might be my only chance to see her. Again, I'm really sorry."
"I flew all this way to see you and…" Her words fell on deaf ears, as Sammy was already heading to the other table. Her mom sighed.
"What's up, guys? I'm here in Thailand, in one of the biggest malls in the world!" Ambie spoke to her phone. "My girlfriend's here and guess what? If she wins this challenge, she's taking me on a $5000 shopping spree." She squealed in delight.
Jo rolled her eyes, but was grateful for the lack of attention. She never wanted to be on Ambie's online show and, thankfully, her girlfriend respected that. However, something was still bothering her.
Confessional (Jo): "You know what pisses me off sometimes? Ambie makes more money than me, in one video on her channel, than I do in a week's worth of gym rentals." She grinned to herself. "But that's all gonna change when I win the five million." She shot a thumb at her chest. "I'll finally be the breadwinner in this relationship."
Static
"Oh my god, are you filming a new episode?!"
Jo and Ambie looked up. Sammy was standing a few feet away, shaking and stuttering. "Hi...I'm...I'm Sammy...I'm like...your biggest fan."
Ambie turned and smiled. "That's awesome." She held up her phone. "Do you wanna be in my next vlog?"
Sammy gasped and nearly passed out upon hearing this. She nodded excitedly. Ambie stood up and signaled Sammy to stand next to her. The Star Struck Twin did so and Ambie hit the record button on her phone.
"Hey, guys. I'm with one of the competitors here on the show. Apparently, she's a big fan of mine." She turned. "Tell the audience who you are."
Sammy tried to answer, but couldn't speak properly because of her constant stuttering. "I'm...I'm...I-I'm...I...I-I...Hello, my name is Samey- SAMMY!" She quickly corrected.
Ambie laughed and continued. Jo watched the two, with her arms now crossed and a prominent frown on her face.
Confessional (Jo): She was pouting. "Who said anyone could waltz up to my girlfriend and just…" She stopped, realizing what she was saying. "Actually...I...I don't care. I'm not...jealous or anything. She can hang out...with...whoever she wants." She said this through a forced smile and gritted teeth.
Sammy returned to her table, still giddy. However, once she sat down, she calmed down and looked at her mom. "Sorry about that…"
"It's alright," she chuckled. "How have you been doing? What with all the traveling and being from home for so long."
"It's been...unlike anything I've ever done. I've made a lot of friends, been to some cool places, it's been kinda amazing. But I do miss being home and talking to you." She reached over and gave her mom a side hug. She returned it with a smile. However, once they released, she frowned. Sammy noticed, and immediately knew what it was about. "Alright, Mom. You wanna talk about Amy?"
Deborah was hesitant, and a little surprised, but nodded. "I just wanna know what went through your head when you chose to eliminate her." She reached over and put her hand on her daughter's shoulder. "Just to clarify, I'm not upset and I'm not going to force you to do anything. I just want to know." She put her hand down.
Sammy gathered her thoughts, and let out a sigh. "It wasn't something I was planning on doing originally. I was surprised that we were getting along and I...I guess I got caught up in the fact that we weren't fighting." She paused and looked at the ground. "But then...it didn't feel so good. I felt like I was becoming Amy and...I kinda hated what I was doing." She glanced back up Deborah. "I thought our relationship could be fixed, but I didn't want to do it that way." She paused again, rubbing her arm. "I hope you're not mad at me."
Deborah gave a sympathetic look. "Of course not, sweetie. I'll admit, it was nice to see you and your sister acting like...well, sisters." She put her hand on her daughter's leg. "But you did what you thought was right and I can't blame you for that. I'm still proud of you no matter what happens."
Sammy smiled as she looked at her mom. She almost found herself crying again, but held it back. The two embraced in a tight hug. "Have you talked to Amy yet?" Sammy asked, once they separated.
Deborah shook her head. "She's home now, but I'm not going to do anything, until she, and you, are ready."
Sammy sighed in relief. "Thanks, Mom. Can we talk about something else, while we have the time?"
Her mom nodded and the two continued talking.
After a while, Chris indicated the start of the challenge. He was holding several white cards in his hand. "Now that all of you are finished catching up, it's time for the fun stuff to start." He slowly turned his head, looking at each competitor. They were all standing in front of four different tables, each occupied by their loved ones. He held up the cards. "I like to call this game, the $100 Challenge! You'll each be given these cards and will have to find a select number of items. In total, they'll add up to 100 dollars, and the higher the amount, the harder it will be to find the item. $75 is the highest it can go, and $25 is the lowest. You may only search for one item at a time, and must be carrying that specific card with you. Once you find the item, bring it back here and you can head out to find the next item. First person to find all their items wins the $5000 shopping spree."
Ambie jumped in delight. She turned to her girlfriend. "I really want you to win, but even if you don't, I'll still love you because you're my little Joey." She went over to give her a hug. Jo saw this, and looked at the competitors. Duncan was staring at her, with a sly grin. The Jockette thought of a plan and defensively brought her hands up. Ambie noticed and stopped. "Is something wrong, Jo?"
The Jockette's face scrunched up, like she was still debating what to say. "I...I can't have you acting like this."
Ambie blinked. "Like what?"
"Like a...sickly sweet...puppy. Like I'm supposed to give you affection every minute."
"But you're my girlfriend." Ambie sounded confused. "What's wrong with that?"
"There's nothing wrong with it." Jo sighed. "But, I can't have you...ruining my image." She forced herself to say that. Ambie's jaw nearly fell on the floor. Jo pointed at the other competitors. "If these losers see me acting all sentimental, they're gonna spring on it like a mosquito and a middle aged man's arm. I'm sorry, but my reputation is too important." Despite her declaration, Jo wasn't looking too confident.
Ambie felt her heart shatter. She was shaking and stuttering. Jo noticed tears forming, and she turned away. Eventually, the Internet Sensation wiped her eyes. "Fine," she mumbled sadly. "If that's what you want, I won't get in your way. I was just so happy to see you...but I guess it was a mistake." She miserably went to sit down, leaving Jo by herself. She kept telling herself it was the right choice, but she was still doubting it.
Soon enough, Chris had all the loved ones give their cards to the competitors. "The numbers on your card were determined by the people that are handing them to you." He explained. "Let's see if they made it easy for you."
Geoff handed his cards to Duncan. He quickly realized that he had four $25 cards. "I have to find four items?" He looked up at his friend. "That's the most possible, why would you give me that?"
The Surfer Dude held up his hands. "Slow and steady wins the race, man. No matter how many times I read the book, the tortoise always won."
Duncan stared at him, dumbfounded. "Didn't you almost win a competition, where 85% of the time, you were running?" All he got in response was a shrug.
Sanders wasn't too thrilled at her cards either. "You gave the $75 one? Why?"
Sarge just tilted his head towards Macarthur. "It wasn't my idea, Macarthur insisted on giving you the challenge."
The Skinny Cadet immediately understood and accepted it.
Jo had also been given the $75 card. She was a little annoyed, but didn't say anything.
"I thought giving you the highest amount would make you fight harder for me," Ambie choked, not even bothering to look up. "But I guess it was wrong of me to think like that."
The Jockette wanted to say something, but held her tongue.
Sammy's mom had just handed her daughter her cards. Sammy stared at them. It was two $25s and one $50. She nodded and looked at her mom. "I can work with this, thanks." Her mom responded with a smile.
Chris soon instructed them to line up horizontally. The challenge was about to start, and they waited for the signal. They were all carrying a card with them. Sammy looked over at her mom, who waved to her and gave her daughter a thumbs up.
"You totally got this!" Macarthur bellowed. Sanders smirked.
"Remember man, slow and steady." Geoff called out. Duncan just rolled his eyes.
Jo looked over at her girlfriend. Ambie sat quietly by herself, looking away from everyone else. The Jockette faced forward. Good she thought She's...she's doing what I asked.
Chris blew his whistle, signaling the start of the challenge. All four competitors ran off into the mall.
Duncan watched, as the other split off from him. He slowed down and checked his card. On the back was the description for the item.
"A belt with words on it." He read aloud, before looking around. "Where am I…"
He suddenly noticed the store right next to him. The store was called 'Piper's.' The Ex-Con looked inside and saw that all the items and clothes had the same name on it. He looked around a little more and found the section for belts and, sure enough, they also had the name on it.
He chuckled to himself. "That was easy." He took the belt, left the card at the cashier's and ran back to the food court.
Sanders ran around a corner and stopped. She saw all the stores she had to search through and thought of a plan.
Confessional (Sanders): "I figured the $75 item wouldn't be on the first floor...or is that what they want me to think?"
Static
The Cadet saw an elevator and headed to it. She pressed the button and walked in, once it opened.
"Hold up."
Sanders looked up and saw Sammy heading towards the elevator. She stepped forward and stopped the doors from closing. Sammy soon entered. "Thanks."
"No problem."
Both stood in silence as they waited for the doors to close. Sammy glanced at the Cadet. "So…" She started. Sanders turned to her. "Have either of us actually talked to each other one-on-one...like, since this whole thing started?"
Sanders raised an eyebrow and looked to the ceiling. "Aside from earlier today, I don't think so." She shrugged and turned her head. "Do you want to? It's a non-elimination, so it's not a huge deal."
Sammy shrugged. "I guess so." She tapped her chin, thinking to herself. "You and your dad must be close, right?"
The Cadet couldn't help but chuckle. "Yeah, pretty much. It's just been him and me for as long as I can remember. He's...kinda my inspiration for becoming a cop, in the first place." Sammy smiled, noting how Sanders perked up once she started talking. "What about you and your mom? You seemed pretty happy to see her."
"Yeah, it's a...long story and we've had our ups and downs, but she's been there for me when I need it."
Sanders nodded. Then a thought struck her. "Hey, I know I talked about it earlier and it's none of my business, but...good job on standing up for yourself in Rome. That probably wasn't easy, but I think you did the right thing."
Sammy sighed. "That's what everyone's been telling me. Maybe I should start agreeing with them." She looked down at the ground, deep in thought. Then she suddenly realized something. She stared forwards. "Have those doors been open the entire time?"
Sanders looked and saw what she was referring to. The elevator doors hadn't closed, or moved, and neither of them had noticed. The Cadet reached over and pushed one of the buttons. "I guess I forgot to tell it what floor to go to."
The two stared at each other, then laughed as the doors closed.
Confessional (Sammy): "Sanders is pretty cool. So far, out of everyone left, she's the only one I've had a positive interaction with. Duncan hurt my knee that one time and Jo...well, Jo is Jo."
Static.
Speaking of, Jo was confident, as she ran through the hallway. But despite her grin, she couldn't stop thinking about Ambie.
Confessional (Jo): "Do you think I enjoy telling my girlfriend she can't be affectionate around me? No. I don't. I'm not a monster." She folded her arms and looked away from the camera. "But it was the necessary thing to do, in order to ensure my win. No distractions! No…" She froze. "No time for...pesky relationships."
Static.
The Jockette slowed down and held up her card. She had the $75 one and flipped it over to see what she was looking for. "A green sweater?" She scoffed aloud. A clothing store was nearby and she stopped at the entrance. Looking in, she could immediately see a rack of sweaters, near the back. Jo grinned as she walked in. "This is almost too easy."
Deborah was still at the food court. She had a magazine, which she was quietly reading.
"Pardon me?"
Deborah looked up and saw Sarge walking up to her. "Mind if I take a seat?" He pointed at the nearby chair. "You're the only other adult here, and I don't really want to be stuck with…" He shot a thumb behind him.
Deborah looked over and saw Macarthur, DJ and Geoff. The Burly Cadet was carrying the Surfer Dude like a bride, and was demanding that DJ take a picture of them. Geoff was smiling, but was clearly getting uncomfortable. Deborah looked back at the Sarge and smiled. "Not at all." She put her magazine down and extended her hand. "I'm Deborah."
"Michael." Sarge said, once he sat down. He graciously accepted the handshake. "You must be proud of your kid for making it to the final four."
"Of course. She's been through a lot and it's amazing to see just how far she's come in life." She looked over and glanced at the Sarge's badge. "And what about your daughter? Isn't she training to be a police officer?"
Sarge smiled. "She's always wanted to be one, ever since she was little." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a wallet. He took out a small picture and held it up. On it was a picture of a very young Sanders, with a big smile, a navy blue shirt and a police hat that was too big for her head.
Deborah chuckled. "That's adorable." She pulled out her phone and opened the photos app. "Sammy loved to play dress up when she was little. Her favorite was this pirate's costume." She held up the phone, revealing a picture of a young blonde haired girl with pigtails. She was wearing a pirate's outfit, including a vest and striped shirt, bandana and eyepatch.
Michael chuckled and was about to comment, when they heard footsteps. Both adults turned to see Sammy heading towards them. She was carrying a cereal box with a wolf mascot on it. "Alright, that was the $50 one." She put the box on the table. "Now finding the other two should be…" She finally noticed the Sarge sitting next to her mom. "Oh, hi, I didn't see…" His eyes trailed off. She saw her Mom's phone...and what was on it. The Twin's face immediately went red. "Mom?! What are you doing? Why are you showing him that?"
Deborah raised an eyebrow. "We were just talking about you and Sanders." She said casually.
"I...but...why are you-" She stammered. She tried to find her words, but couldn't finish her sentence. After a while, she grunted, took another card and ran off. However, as she did, she caught a glimpse of Ambie sitting by herself. She noticed how miserable the internet celebrity was looking. Sammy frowned and thought about Jo.
Duncan soon entered the food court with the belt. He placed it on the table and was about to grab another card, when Geoff put his hand on the Ex-Con's shoulder. "Hey, dude. You should probably talk to the Sarge at some point. You're dating his daughter, so you might as well get it over with."
Duncan gulped. "Yeah, I'm not ready for that."
"C'mon, man. He's honestly a pretty cool guy."
"I already said I-" He froze, realizing something. He turned to Geoff. "You talked to him?"
The Surfer Dude nodded. "So did DJ. He's big, but he's a really nice dude. I think you guys would-"
Duncan suddenly grabbed Geoff by the collar of his shirt and pulled him closer. "You TALKED to him?!" He sounded very distressed. Geoff was too surprised to answer. Duncan looked back at the Sarge. He was still talking to Deborah. When he noticed the Ex-Con staring at him, he waved casually. Duncan's eyes went wide. He pushed Geoff back in a panic, grabbed his card and ran off. The Surfer Dude watched him, confused.
Once again, Jo was running through the halls of the mall. But this time, she looked frustrated.
Confessional (Jo): Now, she looked like she was about to blow a gasket. "Red sweater! Purple sweater! Blue sweater! But no stinkin' green sweater!"
Static.
The Jockette groaned and stopped. I'll have better luck if I start with the smaller card. She thought. She turned around and headed to the food court. However, as soon as she did, she bumped into something. She fell on her rump and rubbed her head. "Hey, watch where you're-" She stopped, finally seeing what she had bumped into.
Sammy had also fallen to the ground and was clutching her arm. "Sorry." She said. "I didn't know you were gonna turn around."
Jo scoffed and started to get up. "Whatever, just stay out of my way."
"Wait," Sammy quickly stood up. "I think you should check on Ambie." Jo froze. "She looked really upset. I think something's bothering her."
"Well, what would you know?!" Jo snapped. "Why don't you mind your own business?!" With that, the Jockette pushed the Twin aside and ran off. Sammy watched her leave, wondering what that was all about.
Sanders was in another hallway, looking from store to store. She had the same idea as Jo and had gone back to get her other card. Now that she had the new one, she hoped it would be easier to find. She rounded a corner and saw someone heading towards her. And she immediately perked up.
"Glad I ran into you." She slowed her pace down.
Duncan saw what she was doing and did the same. "Same here."
Once they stopped, Sanders looked down, noticing something. "You already found your first item?"
Duncan held it up. It was a red and white foam finger. "It's actually my second. I guess I gotta thank Geoff and DJ for giving me the easy ones. What about you?"
Sanders shrugged. "Still on my first. But it's not a big deal."
"Let me see it," Duncan held out his hand. "I might be able to help."
The Cadet raised an eyebrow. "That's not exactly the thing you do in a competition."
"Like you said, it's not a big deal. There's no elimination, so I don't have much to lose." He scratched the back of his head. "I...also still feel bad about what happened in Rome."
Sanders gave a playful smirk and handed him the card. He started reading it, when she spoke again. "By the way, I know it's a little soon, but since he's here, do you think you can talk to my dad at some point? He really wants to meet you." Duncan froze and went wide eyed. The mere mention of Sanders' Dad made him sweat. Sanders noticed. "Are you-"
"You're looking for a bedazzled phone case, right?" He suddenly said, sounding very panicked. "I think I saw a cell phone store on the second floor." He looked up and pointed. "Should be right next to a pet food place." He handed her the card and sprinted in the direction of the food court.
Sanders watched, surprised by his behavior.
Confessional (Sanders): "Is Duncan...scared of my dad?" She thought for a moment. "That is...adorable."
Static.
Jo just entered the food court and ran straight to her table. She put her $75 card down and took the $25 one. She was about to go back out, but stopped. Ambie was still sitting at the table. Her head was looking in the other direction, and her arms were folded. The Jockette remembered what Sammy said to her earlier. "I…" She started awkwardly. "I couldn't find the $75 sweater."
Ambie scoffed. "Couldn't find it? Or didn't want to try? It's not like you actually care about this relationship, so why would I expect you to put any effort into it?"
Though she was facing away, Jo could tell Ambie was fighting back tears. She looked sadly at the ground, then quickly grabbed the other card and ran off. Once she was gone, Ambie wiped her eyes.
"Are you ok?"
Ambie turned to see DJ taking a seat, next to her. She quickly rubbed her tears away. "Oh...I'm...I'm fine. Just...had something in my eye."
DJ frowned. "You don't need to lie. I just wanted to see if I could help with anything."
Ambie looked at him, confused. "But I don't even know you, why would you want to help me?"
The Big Man smiled warmly. "Momma always said to look out for others, even if you don't know them. Everyone's got a story and they deserve to be heard."
Ambie was hesitant, but decided to go along. She put on a brave face and began.
Later, Duncan had returned with the foam finger. He was grinning confidently. "Two more items, and I'm done." He put it on the table and looked over at Geoff, who had made himself comfortable in the chair. "You wanna hit up the bar and spend the $5000 on shots?"
Geoff shook his head. "No can do, bro. I promised Bridge I'd come back sober."
"Oh, come on. Malibu isn't even here. You'll probably get it out of your system before you get home."
Before Geoff could reply, DJ stepped in. "Duncan, I need you to do me a favor."
"If it's anything related to alcohol, I'm in."
"It's not that. It's about Jo."
Duncan laughed. "If there's anyone I don't want to chug beer with it's…" He thought for a second. "Yet again…"
"Dude, it's not about drinking. I need you to help her with something."
"What? Why would I help that walking trash-can?"
DJ pointed at her table. Duncan looked and saw the saddened state of Ambie. "That girl is miserable right now. Jo's too focused on the competition and won't show her any affection, and it's making her miserable. Do you think you could talk to her and get her to stop acting like that?"
Duncan was about to protest, but saw the pleading eyes from his long time friend. He turned to see if Geoff could help. The Surfer Dude simply shrugged. Duncan turned back and sighed. "Alright, I'll do it. But, if I win, you're both doing shots with me."
DJ nodded. Geoff was hesitant, but agreed. With nothing more to say, Duncan ran off.
Confessional (Duncan): "Under normal circumstances, you'd never see me do something like this." He paused. "But if DJ's telling me to help someone, how am I supposed to say 'no'?"
Static
Sammy headed into a clothing store. I need to find a sweatshirt with a custom hood. She looked at the cashier lady. She glanced at her card and noticed something. Underneath the english description was some markings that Sammy didn't understand. It must be Taiwanese. Maybe the cashier can help. She walked up and handed the card to the lady. She took it and read it. She looked around the store, before shaking her head and handing the card back.
Sammy sighed and went to head out. But then she stopped. There was a mirror in the corner of the wall. From where she was standing, Sammy could see her entire body. She stared at it, for a while, much to the confusion of the cashier. Without saying anything else, Sammy walked out, seemingly processing something in her head.
Duncan had just walked out of another store. He looked at his card and narrowed his eyes. Where else could I find a- He stopped, and looked up. Ahead, he could see Jo heading towards an elevator. She pressed the button and waited. Duncan kept staring at her. Eventually, he sighed and walked over to her.
The door eventually opened and the Jockette stepped in. But before she could press the button, Duncan suddenly appeared. He pushed her back and pressed the 'close' button on the panel.
"What the-" Jo exclaimed. "What are you-"
Duncan shot his index finger at her. "Listen to me. I don't want to do this, and I know you probably aren't going to listen. If you hear me out, I'll...I'll help you with one of your items."
Jo opened her mouth to protest, but thought for a moment. She closed it and nodded. She also moved her left arm behind her back.
"What is your deal with that girl?" Duncan asked, still holding down on the button.
The Jockette was caught off guard. Of all the things she thought Duncan wanted to say to her, that was the last thing on her mind. "Why do you care?" She asked defiantly.
The Ex-Con rolled his eyes, knowing this would happen. "I don't care, but I wanna know what's going on between you two." Jo didn't say anything, for a while. She just glared at him. When Duncan didn't get a response, he went to plan B. "Yeah, I didn't think so either." He said slyly. "I mean, I don't know what you see in her. I've seen her channel. Honestly, I just found her annoying." Jo's eye twitched, as Duncan continued. "She's loud, has nothing really interesting to say and, I hate to say it, I think she's overrated."
A hand suddenly grabbed Duncan's collar and she slammed him on the elevator door. "Try saying that again with a broken jaw!" Jo yelled. Duncan just stared at her, and smirked. Jo seethed and gave him a death stare. After a few seconds, realization struck her. Feebly, she released her grip and crossed her arms. "Alright, you got me. Happy?"
Duncan gave her a confused look. "What's your deal, Jo? I thought you, of all people, wouldn't give a crap what everyone else thought of you."
"I have a reputation to keep," Jo retorted. "I don't need people thinking I've gone soft or something."
"So, you're willing to lose your girlfriend, if it means people will think you're cool?" Jo didn't respond, but clearly wanted to say something. Duncan knew he was getting to her, so he relaxed his tone. "Look, Jo...I was gonna make fun of you, no matter what. Not because you're dating someone, but because you're literally a walking dumpster fire."
"Thanks for the kind words, Softie." Jo said sarcastically. "You should be a therapist."
Duncan ignored her and went on. "My point is, you already think you're better than everyone here, so why do you suddenly care about their opinion of you? I'm dating a cop, but you don't see me worrying about my image…" He paused and scratched the back of his head. "...anymore."
Jo thought about what was said, and looked down. Eventually, she sighed. "Alright, fine. I'll...I'll fix it." She quickly shook her sad state away, and narrowed her eyes. "Now it's your turn. You said you'd help me with one of my items."
Duncan couldn't help but chuckle. "What are you looking for?"
"A green sweater."
The Ex-Con thought for a moment. "I think I saw one on the second floor. One of the smaller clothing stores."
Jo nodded. Duncan finally released his finger from the button. The door opened soon after and the two walked out. Duncan was about to head off, but Jo called out. "Hey...Duncan." The Ex-Con turned around. For the first time, he saw Jo giving him a small smile. "I...I just wanted to say thanks."
Now it was Duncan's turn to be caught off guard. Was Jo actually...thanking him? He debated if he had actually been talking to Jo, or some altered clone. Or maybe he stepped into an alternate universe. He shook away his thoughts and thought of a response. "Yeah...no problem. I...I'll admit I was not expecting you to-"
Jo's smile turned to a smirk. "Thank you…" She brought her left arm forward revealing a small blue frying pan in her hand. With her other hand, she reached into her sweatshirt pocket and revealed a $25 card. "...for handing me the win." She cackled and ran in the other direction.
Duncan stared, unsure of what just happened.
Confessional (Duncan): "Jo...is literally the worst."
Static
Sanders finally returned with her first item. She still had to find the $75 one, but was confident. She placed the phone case on the table, and went to pick up the other card. But before doing so, she looked up. Macarthur was in the middle of a really intense arm wrestling match with DJ.
Curious, she walked up to them. "What are you guys doing?"
DJ had a strained face, as he desperately tried to slam Macarthur's hand down. Macarthur was also struggling, but far less so. She turned to her partner, while still holding her grip. "We got bored of thumb wrestling, so we moved to using our arms." She took a deep breath and pushed against DJ's hand, slamming it on the table. DJ winced and clutched his hand. Macarthur raised her's in victory. "Sixteen in a row, baby!"
Sanders raised an eyebrow and looked over at Geoff. He had been rubbing his right arm. His fingers twitched and his forearm was red. The Surfer Dude looked up at Sanders and gave her a pleading look. Sanders clearly felt bad for him but, nonetheless, quickly grabbed her next card and ran off.
Confessional (Sanders): "I didn't want to leave DJ and Geoff like that, but...it's really hard to stop Macarthur when she gets competitive. She broke three windows, at the academy, while we were playing a game of Uno."
Static.
As soon as Sanders was gone, Sammy entered the food court. She had found the modified sweatshirt and placed it at her table. Deborah looked up at her, and smiled. "Good job, Sweetie. Only one more to go."
Sammy couldn't help but grin. She grabbed the last card, and was about to go out again, when she suddenly stopped. "Everything alright, Sammy?" Her mom asked.
The Twin didn't answer immediately. She looked down at her cheerleading outfit. "Mom?" She said, looking up. "Did you bring your purse with you? More importantly, your wallet?"
Deborah stared confusingly at her daughter. "Um...yes. I did." She paused. "Do you need something?"
Again, Sammy thought for a moment. "I...might. I'll explain later." Before Deborah could say anything else, Sammy was already out of earshot.
Ambie was still silent, at her table. She was still clearly upset, but was looking more bored than anything else. Jo came running down the corner and towards the table. She put the frying pan down and grabbed her second, and last, card. Ambie turned her head in the other direction, like last time, but was surprised when Jo didn't immediately leave. She was expecting to hear running footsteps, but nothing happened. However, The Internet Sensation suddenly felt something soft press against her cheek. She glanced to her left, startled. Jo's face was directly next to her's. After another second, she pulled away and ran off. Ambie sat, stunned by what just happened. She slowly put her hand up to where she felt the soft spot.
Did Jo just kiss me? She thought.
Sanders ran past several more stores. She still had one more item to find, which was going to be difficult, but was still focused. She ran past by another store, then suddenly stopped. She walked back and looked inside.
It was a punk rock store. It had red and black jackets, belts with silver trimmings, plaid skirts and an entire section dedicated to eyeliner. She walked around. Maybe I can get something for Duncan while I'm here. She thought. Hopefully, Dad brought his wallet. I can't buy anything with this card.
She walked out and was about to run off again, when Jo suddenly ran by, shoving the Cadet down in the process.
The Jockette was in a furious panic. Sweat and tears were streaming down her face. She frantically looked around. I checked there. I checked there. I checked- Wait, I didn't check that one.
She ran into a clothing store and went to the sweater section. She looked through them, throwing others off the rack. Finally, when she reached the end of the section, she found one, lone...green sweater. The Jockette grinned, took the sweater, slammed the card onto the cashier's table and bolted out of the store.
"So it was me, Officer McLane and Seargeant Powell. It was an intense drive down fifth street and we had the robbers in our sights. So I pulled out my gun, aimed for the tires and, next thing you know, Powell swerves and we nearly hit a tree. Thankfully, that's when I…"
Sergeant Sanders had been entertaining everyone with a story from his past. Geoff, DJ and Macarthur were enthralled by it while Deborah sat near them, quietly listening. Ambie had also brought herself over to hear the story. Anything was better than sitting by myself she had told herself.
It was suddenly interrupted, as they all heard footsteps heading towards them. They all faced the entrance and waited. Duncan soon entered, carrying a small orange water gun.
Geoff clapped. "Nice going, D-man. Only one more to-"
Duncan's walk was rudely interrupted, as Jo suddenly appeared, carrying a green sweater. She shoved Duncan to the ground and ran to the others. Ambie was surprised and got out of her seat.
Chris watched as the Jockette sprinted towards her table and slammed the sweater down. "I believe that's Jo's second item. That means she-"
Whatever Chris was saying, it was ignored, as Jo suddenly bolted towards Ambie. The Internet Sensation was caught off guard and braced herself. She felt the sudden impact and her feet left the ground. Not only that, a pair of arms were wrapped around her waist, as she was carried backwards.
"Jo, what on earth-"
The Jockette stopped and looked up. Ambie could see the water running down her eyes, the snot coming out of her nose and the noticeable pout on her face. Before she could say anything, Jo sniffed. "I'm...so, so, so sorry." She cried.
Ambie had no idea what was going on. "Jo-"
"I was an idiot, I was selfish and, above all, I was too concerned with my ego to not realize the amazing person I was with." She lowered her down to the ground, but didn't release her hold. "I made the biggest mistake of my life when I put something else above your happiness. I don't care what these idiots think of me. You're the only one I should be caring about here. I know I don't deserve to be forgiven, but I wouldn't know what to do with myself if you were no longer a part of my life."
Ambie stared, absolutely shocked. Everyone else was also flabbergasted. Duncan had just walked over, rubbing his head. "What the hell, Jo? I wasn't even finished."
Everyone ignored him. Eventually, Ambie's look of shock started to scrunch up. Her mouth started to pout and she was blinking a lot. "Hold on," She said and reached into her pocket. She pulled out a white cloth and rubbed it over Jo's face. "I can't do this with all the snot."
Jo giggled as her girlfriend wiped the snot from her face. Soon she was done and she tossed the cloth to the side. Almost immediately, she grabbed the Jockette's face and went straight for the lips. The two shared in a long, passionate kiss. Jo tightened her grip and the two pressed their bodies against each other.
The others couldn't help but smile at what they were seeing (ignoring the fact that Jo called them all idiots). Even Duncan was grinning. Geoff walked up to him, and put his arm around his friend's shoulder. "Sorry, you didn't win, man."
The Ex-Con just shrugged. "It's no big deal. I'm pretty sure $5000 worth of shots was a bad idea." He stepped forward. "Now, hold on. I've been planning jokes about this since we started." He cupped his hands around his mouth. "Hey, Jo!" He called obnoxiously. "I think I saw a psychiatrist's office around here. Maybe we should bring your girl in and make sure she's mentally sane."
Still in the middle of kissing, Jo released one of her arms and shot a middle finger in his direction. He just laughed. Eventually, the two released, as Chris walked up to them, handing Jo the $5000 card. "You have six hours to shop. It's no good outside this store, so try to use as much as you can."
Jo took the card and stared at it. She then glanced at her girlfriend. Smiling, she handed it to her. "I'll carry anything, and everything, you buy."
Ambie gaped at the card, then to Jo. "I love you so much," She beamed, taking the card. The two held hands and left the food court.
Duncan smirked as they walked past. He turned around and was about to make a snide comment, when he suddenly noticed something was standing behind him. Its shadow engulfed him. He looked up and gulped.
"You must be Duncan." Michael said, staring down at him. The Ex-Con's mouth went dry as he tried to speak. He didn't have to. The Sarge held out his hand and smiled warmly. "Pleasure to meet you."
Duncan didn't know what to do, but decided to shake his hand. Once the two shook, Duncan winced as he felt the pressure from Michael's incredible grip. Despite this, he still forced a smile.
While the two were still shaking hands, Sanders showed up. She quickly realized that Jo had won, but wasn't disappointed. Just seeing her dad and boyfriend interacting was worth it.
"How it goes, Sandy?"
The Cadet turned and saw DJ and Geoff heading towards her. She smiled. "Good to see you, Geoff." She turned. "You're DJ, right?" She extended her hand. "Nice to meet you."
"Likewise," The Big Man accepted the handshake. "Glad to see you and Duncan getting along."
Sanders blushed. "I promise I'll treat him right."
"You better!" Macarthur suddenly butt in. "I've been banking on this redemption arc for too long and I can't let anything ruin it."
Sanders just laughed. "Sure thing, Macarthur."
And the four friends took their seat at a table and chatted away.
Confessional (Duncan): He was holding his wrist with his left hand. His right hand was still throbbing from the handshake. "Ow." He winced.
Static.
After a while, Sammy came back with one of her items. Chris explained what had happened. While Sammy was bummed about not winning, she was happy to spend some time with her mom.
But as she walked to her, she had a thought.
Deborah smiled at her, and held her arms out for a hug. But once she saw the uncertain look on her daughter's face, she frowned. "What's wrong, Sweetie?"
Sammy didn't answer immediately, and just stared at her mother. "Mom?" She finally said. "I know this might be a little strange, but I was thinking we could do some shopping."
Deborah raised an eyebrow. "But you didn't win…"
"I know. But there's a few things I really need to do before we leave. I don't think it will be that expensive, but either way, it's very important for me."
Her Mom seemed unsure, but after looking into the eyes of her daughter, she knew how significant this was. "Alright. We'll do it. Lead the way."
Sammy smiled and hugged her mom. The two headed out to the other stores.
Later, as the sun was setting, the competitors and their loved ones entered the McPlane. They all walked into first class, one by one. Ambie entered first, casually carrying a single white shopping bag. Jo was behind her, engulfed by the massive amount of bags in her arms. No one could see her face, but she was clearly struggling. DJ was nice enough to take a few off of her. Geoff and Duncan were next, both laughing with their arms over each other's shoulders. Macarthur, Sanders and Michael went to find a place to sit.
Deborah entered, but stopped at the entrance. She glanced back, smirked and faced the others. "Excuse me, I have an announcement to make." She called. Everyone turned. "My daughter has gone through an incredible journey. She's been through so much and I'm very proud of her."
"Mom, what are you doing?" A voice whispered. Sammy was about to enter, but her Mom pushed her back.
"And her next step in life begins now." She was still struggling to keep her daughter from moving forward. "I...am very excited to introduce the new look of my darling Samantha. She's confident that you'll love this-"
"Mom, stop!" Sammy finally pushed her way into first class. She was red faced, as her mom chuckled. She finally noticed all the stares she was receiving and smiled nervously. Sammy's new look was very different. She had ditched her high heels, in exchange for a pair of black and white sneakers. She had also completely gotten rid of her cheerleading getup. Now she was wearing a pair of blue jeans and a blue and white striped spaghetti tank top. But the most remarkable change was in Sammy's hair. It was shortened to just above her shoulders and was more wavy than before. She also had the tips of her blonde hair dyed black.
Taking a deep breath, she stepped forward. Most of the people gave her approving nods. When she walked past Ambie, however, she stopped. The Internet Sensation looked her up and down and smiled. "That's a great look for you."
Sammy nearly felt her heart leap out of her chest. "Thank you," She said, through her beaming smile.
From the entrance, Chris watched all this happen. He turned to the camera. "Talk about starstruck." He joked. "There might not have been an elimination, but there was still a lot of excitement, don't you think? Don't worry, in the next episode, we will see someone go home. Who's it gonna be? I have no idea. But we're certain these competitors are more determined than ever. And you can bet we'll put them to the test. Find out who's gonna pass and who's gonna fail that test, on the next episode of...Total...Drama...Legends!"
When I first started this series, this was the chapter I was most excited to write for. Maybe I overhyped it for some, but I couldn't help it.
Like I said before, my favorite reality TV show is Hell's Kitchen. My favorite episodes were the ones where Gordan brings in family and friends. I knew I wanted to do something like that for this.
I figured Geoff and DJ were good choices for Duncan, as I felt he still wasn't talking to his parents or siblings.
Sammy's mom was also an easy choice because of what happened in the previous chapter.
Macarthur was obvious and I thought it would be fun to bring in Sanders' dad. My headcanon is that he's a single parent. Still haven't decided if the mom is dead, or just left. Oh yeah, Sanders' first name is Mikayla.
I have a feeling some people might question Jo having a girlfriend (especially the Jock shippers), but here's my theory: Jo has never really thought about relationships and having a partner. And even if she did, she wouldn't date someone who was already in the competition. I still haven't decided if she also likes guys, so I'll let you decide. And if anyone's curious, Ambie is part Indian and her name is short for Ambali.
And with that, I'm done with this chapter. Leave a review and let me know what you think. I love hearing from y'all.
What did you think of all the loved ones showing up?
Where do you think the next challenge location will be?
Who's not going to make the final three?
I'll see you next time! Take care and have a good one.
Also, I left two references in this chapter. One was from a Christmas movie starring Bruce Willis and the other was from a YouTuber gaming series where the stars are known for being very 'grumpy.'
