Page Three: Jumping To Conclusions
...
Elizabeth had to admit that she didn't entirely believe she'd actually get him to talk. From what Emily has told her, he wasn't exactly one for words, but she's glad that he feels comfortable enough with her to open up, even if it's only little things. All great things have to start somewhere, right?
She couldn't put her finger on it just yet, but something about him captivates her to no end. It's not even the words he's saying but the way he says them. Making her feel like every word he says is to be cherished and kept close to her chest. For a person like him to give up any information, it's something she won't be taking for granted, that's for sure.
"So, chocolate's in and coconut's out," Elizabeth muses as they get to the back patio, thankful to see that the people that had once been there are now nowhere to be seen, giving them the last moment alone. "I'll be sure to remember that."
"I'm not sure if I should be worried about that."
"You've only known me for a few hours and you already get me," Elizabeth laughs softly, a slight smirk touching her lips. "Anyway, I should go find your sister before she sends the search dogs out looking for me."
"Right," Jason accepts, pulling open the door for her. "Wouldn't want that."
"No, we wouldn't," Elizabeth confirms, walking inside with him close behind. "Trust me."
"I'll take your word on that," Jason replies, getting the sense that it's happened before. "Looks like she's by the donation booth."
"Looks like it," Elizabeth says, turning to say something when a girl walks up to her, stopping anything she was about to say.
"Jason, there you are," the girl says, giving Elizabeth the sense that they had history, almost tempting her to stay put and see just what this interaction entails. "I was looking for you everywhere. I was hoping we could continue our conversation from earlier."
"I'll...uh, leave you guys to it," Elizabeth voices when she can practically feel the tension radiate off of Jason, lifting one hand to gently touch his arm and get his attention. "See you later."
"Sure," Jason says, doing his best to soften his features when he turns to her.
"Um, excuse me, but I don't believe we've met," the girl turns her attention to Elizabeth, obviously not knowing Elizabeth barely needs an invitation. "I'm Robin Scorpio, the commissioner's niece."
"That's something you take pride in?" Elizabeth throws back, slightly wincing at such a brag, if you could call it that, unknowingly cutting Jason off. "Really?"
"I beg your pardon?" Robin looks at her in disbelief.
"No need to beg, it's quite unbecoming really," Elizabeth replies, giving her a once over before meeting her gaze. "Of all the things for someone to take pride in, being the niece of someone shouldn't be the first thing to admit to when introducing yourself, but hey what do I know? That could be all you're proud of. If so, more power to you."
"Are you related to Carly or something?" Robin questions, growing slowly frustrated with this interaction.
"Never heard of her, but if you relate her to me then she must be someone worth meeting," Elizabeth throws back before turning to Jason. "Is she?"
"Yeah," Jason admits. "She's my best friend."
"Huh, someone that gets on this girl's nerves and she's your best friend," Elizabeth mulls that over. "Love her already."
"You know what, I don't care who you are anymore," Robin snaps, losing all patience with this girl. "You can leave now. Jason and I have personal things to discuss."
"I'll leave when I feel good and ready," Elizabeth replies, finding her demanding nature laughable. "Fortunately for you, this conversation lost its entertainment value almost instantly."
"Who do you think you are?" Robin blurts out, completely dumbfounded by her.
"You always this indecisive?" Elizabeth counters. "You wanna know, you don't wanna know, now you wanna know again...seriously, a girl can get whiplash from talking to you."
"Jason, are you just going to stand there?" Robin looks at him in disbelief. "Say something."
"Ah, you're one of those types," Elizabeth says with understanding. "Now I get why you felt the need to mention your uncle."
"Excuse me?" Robin looks at her confused. "What type of person do you think I am exactly?"
"The type that needs others to fight your battles," Elizabeth says simply. "Mentioning that your uncle's the commissioner must do wonders at preventing people from messing with you. Seeing that it doesn't work with me, you think that Jason can step in as your defense. Man, dating you must have been so exhausting."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Robin questions.
"I just get a feeling that your mouth can get you into some sticky situations and, if I had to be the one to get you out of it all the time, well, that would just be exhausting," Elizabeth answers honestly. "Now, excuse me, but I really do have to get going. Good luck with your victim complex."
"I'm not done talking to you!" Robin states angrily as Elizabeth gets ready to walk away.
"Yeah, well, I'm far past done talking to you," Elizabeth counters with ease. "Jason, till next time, and you...well, I hope I never have the displeasure of talking to you again."
Ignoring the rambling of the other woman, she decides to make her way to Emily, finding she's had her fill of drama for the night. Getting to her, Elizabeth finds that her best friend had been all too aware of the little squabble that she was partaking in, clearly finding amusement in it. Rolling her eyes, Elizabeth just shakes her head, not at all interested in a replay of the conversation, something she's thankful Emily understands.
"Can you believe that girl?" Robin questions Jason in annoyance. "Who does she think she is talking to me like that?"
"..."
"And you...how could you just stand there and let her say all that to me?" Robin turns to him in disbelief. "I know that things are rough right now, but you could have at least defended our relationship."
"And prove her point?" Jason counters, not seeing her logic, growing closer and closer to the end of his patience.
"Tha...that's beside the point," Robin sighs. "After everything we've been through together, the least you could have done is defend me to that stranger."
"Stranger to you," Jason corrects. "Not me."
"I..." Robin found her words falling off at the look in his eyes, what is that look, she knows that look. "What is she exactly to you?"
"What does it matter to you?"
"Jason," she says pointedly. "What is she to you?"
"Something you're not," Jason says but doesn't elaborate. "I'm done talking."
"Jason, seriously!"
"Goodbye, Robin."
Internally groaning, she mentally curses his hardened exterior, swearing that this whole situation has grown far more difficult than she had prepared for. Honestly, if it weren't for that girl, she would have been further along with Jason, wearing him down inch by inch, but no! That girl had to weasel her way into Jason's life and make their reunion that much more challenging.
Challenging, but not impossible. If that girl thinks she's just going to stand down and let her have Jason, well, she has another thing coming. Robin walked away too easily last time and she's not about to make that same mistake again. One way or another, she'll get Jason to forgive the past and they will move forward. She just knows it.
"Hey, man," Sonny voices when he gets to them, clearly having noticed what had just gone down. "Heading out?"
"Yeah," Jason confirms, having his fill, more than ready to end this day. "You guys good?"
"Yeah, we're good," Sonny assures. "Go get some rest."
"Just say the word," Carly comments, itching to go a round with that brat. "You know I'm more than willing to..."
"No," Jason cuts her off, knowing she was about to go on a rant about it, gesturing to her stomach. "That's all that should concern you."
"So you're saying that once I give birth..." Carly smirks slightly.
"No," Jason shuts that down immediately, making it crystal clear. "I love you, but no."
"Fine, fine, go," Carly waves him away. "Maybe you'll be more agreeable with sleep."
"Not likely," Jason shakes his head. "I'll see you guys later."
Making sure to say his goodbyes to his grandmother, Jason leaves the estate with only one destination in mind, his bed. He's not at all sure what's going through Robin's mind, but he doesn't see how she can be delusional enough to believe that there's any future for them. He had thought he made himself crystal clear when they ended. Clearly not clear enough. Something tells him this wasn't going to get any easier.
"Well?" Elizabeth looks at Emily curiously.
"I'm all yours for the rest of the night," Emily assures. "How about I grab my car and we head to Jake's? Now that we're legal and all."
"Sounds good," Elizabeth agrees. "I'm sure Jake will appreciate the change of pace."
"No kidding," Emily laughs. "Give me five minutes to bring the car around?"
"Sure."
Waiting long enough for Emily to walk off, Elizabeth makes her way to the beverage table to grab a bottle of water, not at all expecting the brunette from earlier to approach her again. For being a complete stranger, the girl sure finds herself entitled to information that has absolutely nothing to do with her.
Seeing as she had time to kill, Elizabeth figured she makes decent entertainment in the meantime. Of course, she wasn't at all prepared for the accusations thrown at her, not that she'd be opposed to such a thing. She wanted to delve into that train of thought further, but she found herself beaten to the punch by an unfamiliar, quite pregnant, blonde.
"This has nothing to do with you, Carly!" Robin snaps. "Stay out of it."
"Stop talking about Jason and I'll gladly stay out of it," Carly counters plainly. "You no longer have the right to ask about anything or anyone remotely pertaining to Jason."
"I was just telling her..." Robin defends herself but stops when Carly simply rolls her eyes.
"Pretty sure the whole room knows what you were saying," Carly points out. "What she is or isn't to Jason is none of your concern. Something I'm sure Jason made abundantly clear to you earlier."
"You know what, I don't have to stand here and take this," Robin says in annoyance, turning to Elizabeth. "This is far from over."
"That was so terrifying, I forgot to be scared," Elizabeth throws back sarcastically. "Like you fight your own battles."
"She really doesn't," Carly confirms as they stand side by side. "She relies on the intimidation of others to carry the weight of her words."
"Yeah, I picked up on that," Elizabeth agrees. "No wonder she wants Jason back."
"I was thinking the same thing," Carly replies before turning to Elizabeth, holding her hand out. "Carly Corinthos."
"Jason's best friend, I've heard of you," Elizabeth says, shaking her head. "Elizabeth Webber. It's a pleasure to meet you."
"Of course you two would hit it off," Robin scoffs. "Ridiculous."
"I'm sorry, did you hear something?" Elizabeth asks Carly. "I could have sworn I heard the echoes of a whiny squeaky voice."
"Well, it is an old house, could just be floorboards," Carly says with a shrug. "I should be getting back to my husband, but I'm sure this isn't the last we'll see of each other."
"Real mature," Robin spits out before turning on her heels and walking off.
"I look forward to it," Elizabeth admits. "Till then."
Shaking her hand once more, Elizabeth shares a slight smile with Carly before making her way out to the front porch, knowing Emily should be out front waiting for her by now. She may not know the history that exists between Jason and that girl, but clearly it was bad enough to cause others to weigh in.
Whatever the case, for the girl to think anything of substance exists between her and Jason that requires such threats, well, Elizabeth's game. To think it's only her first night back and she's already got a new upsetty spaghetti. That's impressive even for her.
