Farore sat on Link's bed as he went to finish the rest of his chores. She could hardly believe she was inside her chosen home. Mother Hylia always told her to watch over her chosen hero once he was born. And she has been doing that since the first time she saw him. All the way back to the Hero of the Skies. Many of the Reborn Heroes went under different titles. She didn't mind the titles that were given to each hero. But Farore will always know them by their share name, Link.
She looks up and sees Link walking in, a little winded but clearly ready to go. Farore got up, and walks up to him.
"I heard about the Knight Ceremony. Mind if I come along?" She asked.
Link looks at her, not able to shake the feeling there was something different about this person. But she was great company. She let him finished his chores and stood out of the way, only speaking up if he wanted some help.
Link nodded, and Farore smiles.
"Thank you." She said.
Link turns to the blade she gave him, and picks it up. He could hardly believe this weapon was made by the Goddess of Courage, and Farore was named after the same Goddess, but the blade felt right. As if it was telling him he was meant to wield it. He puts it on his back and looks over to a shield on the wall. It was a gift from his grandparents when he set out to become a knight. It was made mostly out of wood with a bird on it that almost looks the same as the Hyrule Family chest. Link pulls it down and places it on his back.
Farore watches as Link stood ready and smiles. No matter how many times she sees it, it was the same each time. All her chosen look ready for anything, to face anything thing without fear. Farore was the Goddess of Courage, but most of the time, she was inspired by them. The amount of courage they show seems to rival hers at times.
"Are you ready?" She asked.
Link nods, and the two headed towards Hyrule Castle.
Hyrule Market...
Since the Knight Ceremony wasn't until a few more minutes, Farore and Link decide to spend some time in Hyrule Market. Link did bring some rupees and look over some of the food. Farore knew that the people grew and sell food to live. While she doesn't eat, she has understood why they do. Plus, she was in her mortal body. She might as well try some of the food later.
Link looks over at Farore and couldn't help but to smile at her. He wasn't sure, but there was something about her he liked. True, they just met, but it felt he knew her for a long time. He then buys the food he was going to take back before walking up to Farore.
"Farore." He said, making her looked up.
"I take its time?" She asked, getting a nod.
Farore nods back. Link was ready to become a knight. A knight that will protect Hyrule. The two headed towards the castle, and Farore felt something wash over her. She groans and grabs her head. Link notices and checks on her.
"I'm fine. Just a slight headache." She said.
'What was that? I just felt some magic wash over the castle just now.' Farore thought.
It didn't feel like her sisters, that she knew for sure. But she decides not to distract Link from this day. She'll bring it up later.
Knight's Ceremony...
Farore stood with the crowd as she watches many people that were fighting to become knights. Her eyes were always on Link, watching him using a training sword and his wooden shield. He wasn't allowed to use real swords during the ceremony, but he was just as skilled.
'Just like the others, ready to face any danger head-on without any fear in his eyes. Most of the people show some fear, but do stand their ground. But none of them has the same amount of courage Link has.' She thought.
"Wow, that rookie has some skills!" A man said.
"Tell me about it! He'll make a great knight!" A woman said.
Farore smiles. All of her chosen made great knights. Some even started out as a farmer or just became a hero by accident. But they all prove themselves to be worthy of her piece of the Triforce.
"I see you been eye the rookie a lot." A woman said next to her.
"Oh! Sorry! I'm just so amazed by his skills." Farore said, not knowing she was staring.
"We all are. But you look like you've seen it before." The woman said.
"I have. I was lost yesterday, and ran into a pack of Wolfos. I'm normally good at defending myself, but I was caught by surprise. The Link came and save me. He let me stay at his place for a bit, and I decide to join him for the Ceremony." Farore said.
"Oh? He was a knight before the ceremony? That's sweet! Reminds me of those fairies tales I read as a little girl." She said.
Farore turns back at Link, who knocked down his opponent, who yield. Link pulls the sword away and puts it on his back. He then offers a hand to his opponent, who grabs it. Farore smiles. Brave, courageous, and kind. Just like the others.
After the Ceremony...
Everyone waited to hear who would become a Knight of Hyrule. Farore knew Link would be one. Many people thought he was going to be an excellent knight. Farore saw the lead guard steps up and looks over the group.
"Each of you has performed well beyond than I thought. However, the path of the Knight is only starting. I'm only able to choose ten of you. For those that don't make it, please keep training to try again next year." He said before pulling out a scroll.
Link stood ready, but Farore could feel his excitement. She knew that Link made the list. He was too good to pass up. Everyone could see that. However, as the names were called, both Link and Farore were starting to get worried. They haven't heard his name, and even the townspeople were getting restless.
Finally, the guard reaches the bottom of the list. He knew the people were waiting for the name they wanted him to stay. He lowers the scroll and looks at the people.
"I know who you are all waiting for. I, too, want him in the ranks of knights. But I'm afraid he's not going to join." He said.
'WHAT?!' Farore thought as Link looks shocked and heartbroken.
Even the townspeople couldn't believe it. The guard then walks to Link and sighs.
"I'm truly sorry." He said sadly.
Farore couldn't believe it! They were passing him up?! He has the skills to be a knight and hero! Who in their right mind would overlook her chosen?!
The guard then named the last person to join the ranks of the knights before thanking each of them for coming and told the rest to train for next year.
Both Farore and Link both walked back to his house. Link looks like he just lost all reason to become a knight. Farore, on the other hand, was mad.
"I can't believe it! Why would anyone pass you up! The Lead Guard even admits he wanted you in the ranks!" She shouted.
She had half in mind to go back to the Castle in her goddess form and demand why they overlooked Link. She turns to Link and saw he was still upset. She's seen her chosen look like this more than a few times. A look as if they couldn't go on. As if they lost all hope and couldn't go on. However, they all overcame their doubts and continued on, but that later in their quests. Link hasn't even started his, and he already lost his hope.
"Link, listen. Don't let it get you down. I know you're a knight without being one. Regardless of what they did, I know you're an amazing fighter, and I'm sure the Goddess of Courage thinks so too." She said.
Link looks at her, confused.
"During the Ceremony, I was watching how you fought. You faced each opponent head-on, without any sign of fear. Some of the others flinch at their opponents and have a small trace of fear in them. But you never falter, you never back down. You faced each opponent head-on and fought them. If they can't see that, then they don't know what they're passing up." Farore said.
Link smiles. He was started to feel better.
"Remember when I saw the Goddess of Courage thinks you're an amazing fighter? I was always told that the Goddess of Courage watches over those that have courage in their hearts. And I saw that. And so did she." Farore added.
Link then turns and hugs her. Farore was shocked. She's never been hug by anyone except her sisters. But she returns the hugs anyways. Link's body felt nice. They broke, and Link smiles.
"Thank you." He said.
Farore smiles, and the two continued back to Link's House.
Later that night...
Farore was quite surprised at her chosen cooking. While she didn't have to eat, she decides to try out his food anyway. The minute she took her first bite, it explodes in her mouth. It was like nothing she tasted before! If the people made food this good as her chosen, she would have come here more often! Maybe bring her sisters down to try it out!
But there was one problem. Farore couldn't return home, and Link was letting her stay the night. Only, he had one bed! Farore wasn't sure what to do. Even Link was stumped. He spent most of his adult life in this house by himself, never thinking about having company staying the night at his place. He didn't have time to make an extra bed, and sleeping on the floor was very uncomfortable.
There was only one option, but he wasn't sure if Farore would take it. Farore had already placed it together as well.
"I know you're worried about it, and truthfully, so am I. But I guess we could share the bed for tonight." She said.
Link was surprised, but nodded. He pulls out a nightshirt and shorts and hands them to Farore. Understanding what he was telling her, Farore took them and headed for the stream outback. Link stood in his room, feeling a bit sad that he didn't become a knight. But Farore seems to cheer him up. He had to admit, for someone he just met, she was better than he thought. She was very nice and understanding. She could even understand his silence. When he hugged her, he felt something he never felt before. Happiness. His grandparents always told him to look out for someone that would give him true happiness, even if he didn't become a knight. Maybe Farore could give him that happiness?
Farore sat in the stream, her clothes off to the side. She was still upset that the kingdom didn't let her chosen into the Knights of Hyrule, but she knew he couldn't let it get to him. He was a skilled warrior, a wonderful cook, and a really handsome guy.
'Whoa! Where did that come from?' Farore thought, surprised.
She didn't deny that each time her chosen was reborn, he was handsome as an adult, and cute and goofy as a child. But she was with him this time. Seeing him up close instead of watching from afar. She came to ask for his help, but was something else happening? Was she falling for her chosen?
'A goddess falling for a mortal? Din would laugh at that as Nayru would find that ridiculous. But I only know him for a day. Why would I be falling for him?' She thought.
Farore wasn't sure. Maybe she was overthinking this. She stood up, and dries herself off. She puts on her nightclothes and heads back to the house. Inside, she found Link ready for bed and smiles.
Link looks at her and smiles as well. Farore places her clothes on the table and walks up to him.
"Thanks for letting me stay the night, Link." She said.
Link nods, and the two got into his bed. Farore was still wondering if she was having feelings for him, but she wasn't sure. After all, just because they're sharing a bed, doesn't mean he could be too. She decides to think about this tomorrow. She wants him to be ready for his quest.
And that's this chapter. Link didn't make it into the Hyrule Knights, and Farore was able to cheer him up. And yes, this will turn into a LinkXFarore story. It might look like they're rushing, but they are both unsure about it. I also try to make sure to reference the other Links from the games. I hope you can spot some of them.
And why aren't I having Link talk a lot more? Well, I'm trying to keep him like in the games. Silent, but does speak a little. Since the name Link is meant to act as the bond between the character and the player. And I am coming up with Temples for Link and Farore to travel through. Just remember, I'm no good with coming up with puzzles. I'll do my best, through. The first temple they will travel to is a Forest Temple. That means they will travel to the Lost Woods before entering the Temple.
And please, have a look at my Poll on my Homepage. I would like to know your favorite Goddess from the Zelda Series.
