Rebel Resolve
It's been a few days since Kanan was captured by the Inquisitor and the Ghost crew were now focusing on trying to find him. One of which was the most determined to rescue him.
The crew, minus Hera, were on top of buildings across from each other as an AT-DP Walker and some Stormtroopers were patrolling in a town on Lothal.
Sabine and Zeb were one building and she signalled to Ezra and Errol, with Chopper and then Zeb jumped onto the Walker with both teens. When the hatch opened, Zeb pulled out one of the AT-DP Troopers and then Errol jumped in and headbutted the remaining trooper, really hard, cracking the helmet. This caused the knocked out trooper to make the Walker fire its blasters. Sabine fired down at the Stormtroopers and Chopper flew into the Walker as Zeb laid out covering fire.
"Plug in, Chop. We need prisoner logs of all Imperial detention facilities." Ezra told the astromech as he and Errol pulled the unconscious trooper out of the control seat. Chopper entered into the systems and both teens carried the body to the hatch.
"Here. Take this." Ezra told Zeb and the Lasat threw the trooper at another one, knocking him out. Ezra took control of the Walker and moved away from the troopers.
Sabine ran across the rooftops and jumped onto the Walker while Zeb fired at the troopers chasing after them.
Sabine then entered as Chopper told her bad news.
"No connection? That's impossible. The entire system would have to be down." Sabine said.
"Well, they did blow up their own comm tower." Zeb reminded her.
"*groans* They must have taken down their entire data network." Sabine realised.
"How are we gonna find out where they've got Kanan now?" Ezra asked.
"Walker 693, stand down. Repeat, stand down." A Stormtrooper ordered over the comm. Zeb saw that there were now two more Walkers after them. One of them fired at them, causing it to shake.
"Whoa! Spectre-2, we need a pickup." Sabine requested over the comlink.
"I read you, Spectre-5. Rendezvous at the town's western border." Hera replied and then the Walker shook again.
"Whoa! Hate to be the pessimist, Ezra, but how do we even know-"
"He's alive, Sabine. I know it." Ezra cut her off. She then got into the other seat, controlling the blasters. She was confused as to why Errol wasn't doing anything, but he hasn't been the same since Kanan was captured.
"Ezra! I can't get a shot if you keep running from them." She told the teen.
"Use the rear cannon." He told her.
"THERE IS NO REAR CANNON, EZRA!" Errol snapped at him, rather harshly.
"Hey, I'm doing the best I can!" Zeb said as he continued firing at the Walker chasing them but then he stumbled and fell back and managed to hang on but at the expense of Ezra's view.
"I can't see! Move!" He told the Lasat.
"Move? Move where?" He asked back.
"Anywhere!" He barked back.
"Just keep it walking in a straight line. Hera's incoming. Everyone up top!" Sabine said as she got up.
"You too, Chop. Let it go." She then said and she and Errol climbed out. And then Ezra as Zeb got up on top.
The Walker chasing them got destroyed as Hera in the Phantom flew in and aligned herself and opened the back of the shuttle as another Walked got in front and fired at them. Everyone jumped in but remembered something.
"Chopper!" Ezra shouted.
"He's still searching for Kanan. Go get him." She told Zeb and so he jumped back to the Walker and grabbed the astromech and jumped back with the others as the Walker exploded and then Hera flew them out of there.
Errol sat in the shuttle, silent and mad at himself as they weren't getting any closer to saving Kanan.
"How'd it go?" She asked Ezra.
"It didn't." He answered grimly. Hera then thought about Errol and was now really worried. He has been avoiding her like she's infected and has been silent a lot of the time. She knew it had to do with Kanan but she didn't know what was going on within him.
They made it back to the Ghost and Hera got in contact with Fulcrum about the situation.
"Kanan knew the risks, accepted them. I'm sorry, but you must focus on your next objective." Fulcrum told the Twi'lek.
"But Fulcrum, Kanan is our objective. We can still find him." Hera fired back.
"At what cost? You? Your unit? The overall mission? *sighs* There's something else, Hera. The transmission Ezra was able to beam out has attracted attention, not just from civilians, but from the highest levels of the Empire." Fulcrum reasoned and explained, surprising Hera.
"It was Kanan's plan. I guess it worked." Hera told her.
"Your mission was to be unseen, unnoticed, and now-"
"Kanan wanted to inspire people. He wanted to give them hope." Hera cut Fulcrum off.
"Well, he was successful. But if you are caught, if Errol is caught, or Ezra, that hope will die. To protect your unit, to protect both Errol and Ezra, you must stop your search for Kanan and go into hiding." They explained, hiding their emotion well since Errol is their son. With no choice, Hera agreed.
Everyone else was in the common room, looking at a hologram of Lothal and its blockade.
"*sighs* Odds are they've still got him at the Imperial Complex." Sabine said.
"If they do, we all know he's as good as gone." Zeb argued.
"He's not gone. And he's not in the Imperial Complex." Ezra told them all with a frown.
"How do you know that?" Zeb asked.
"I just know." Ezra shot back.
"You of all people know we can't make a plan based on a feeling, Ezra." Errol told him, coldly.
"Yes, we can. We do it all the time!" He pushed back.
"Not this time." Hera told everyone.
"What are you talking about?" Ezra asked her as she entered.
"We can't go after Kanan. The Empire will be waiting with a trap." She explained. Errol knew Fulcrum requested her to stop going after him and that made him really mad, because they're his parents.
"When has that ever stopped us?" Ezra asked, taken aback.
"We can't risk it." She told everyone.
"Can't or won't?" Errol spat with venom.
"Errol, there's a bigger mission here. It all can't be jeopardized for… one soldier." She told him. That made Errol get up and storm out with a look that can kill. How could she do or say that about someone she loves, in Errol's eyes.
"'Soldier'? He's our friend, Hera. I can't just forget him. And I can't believe you would either. He'd do whatever it took to protect us." Ezra shot at her.
"He already did when he sacrificed himself. Ezra, he'd want us to honour the choice he made." She tried to talk him down gently, but all it did was make him storm out as well, joining up with Errol.
Ezra found Errol sitting in Kanan's quarters with Chopper keeping him company.
"Hey." He said, getting their attention.
"What?" Errol asked.
"Look, I miss him too." Ezra said.
"I just can't believe Hera would say that." Errol said. Chopper groaned, missing Kanan himself.
"Well, I have a plan to find him. You two wanna help?" Ezra asked him.
"All the way." Errol said and Chopper nodded. Errol had to do this, regardless of what his parents say, for Hera. Even if she doesn't love him, he'll still help her as he still loves her.
The three, including Sabine, form a plan to go off and try to find Kanan while Hera doesn't notice. It was a new dawn and Zeb, Hera and Sabine were in the cockpit, ready for flight.
"*sigh* Why prepare to fight if we're not even going after Kanan?" Zeb questioned as Chopper rolled in.
"You think he'll talk, tell 'em what he knows about us?" Sabine wondered.
"He doesn't know anything." Hera said, sadly, confusing the two.
"Hey, Sabine. Do you know where the power cells are? Ezra needs some for his lightsaber." Errol asked over the comms.
"*sighs* Did he check the overheads?" Sabine asked, seemingly annoyed.
"He already checked there." He told her.
"Hold on. I know where to find some." She replied.
"Chopper, take over for me." She then requested the astromech.
"You can help us look too, Zeb." She then said to the Lasat.
"*scoffs* Really? Why do I need to-" He said but was cut off when Sabine punched him in the arm. They then went to where Errol and Ezra are.
Chopper beeped something to Hera who sighed.
"Just recalibrate the targeting computer, will you?" She requested and he beeped in a complaining way.
Sabine and Zeb entered the Phantom where Errol and Ezra were waiting for them.
"Is Chopper in position?" Ezra asked.
"Yep. Let me in there." She said, and Ezra got off the pilot seat, letting Sabin sit on it. Zeb then realised what's going on.
"Wait, you're going to find Kanan. You're disobeying Hera's orders." He realised. He was so surprised, not just that Ezra and Sabine are doing this, but in particular Errol, considering his connection with their captain.
"Were they orders, or more like her opinion?" Sabine asked him.
"If we're gonna save him, we don't have a choice. You with us or not?" Ezra said to him.
"Yeah, I'm with you." Zeb agreed, wholeheartedly.
"Good, because the plan's in motion already. Just waiting for the signal." Ezra said.
Back in the cockpit, Chopper was causing some electronic warbling and alarms to go off loudly.
"Chopper! I said the targeting computer. You're overloading the internal comm!" She shouted over the sounds with her hands over her ears. Chopper beeped and made the sounds louder.
"No! Don't turn it up!" She shouted, getting out of her seat. This was the signal for them to go.
"Okay. So, where are we going anyway?" Sabine said.
"Our last resort." Errol told her and then she detached from the Ghost and flew off to where they needed to go.
"Will you just unplug?" Hera requested from the astromech who knew they got away, so he did as told and argued against her.
"How is that my fault? You plugged into the wrong system! Why don't you just go help Ezra find his power cells?" She groaned at him. He beeped and this made her suspicious about something.
"What are you up to?" She asked him.
After a few hours, the four reached their destination, which just so happens to be Vizago's hideout.
They all walked out to greet the guy.
"Well, this is unexpected. Looking for work? Or something else?" Vizago greeted them.
"My guess is you already know why we're here." Ezra told him, sternly.
"I don't know where your friend is. I'm sorry." Vizago told him.
"You must've heard something at least." Errol said.
"Even if I did know something, it would be of no use to you. The Empire is locking everything down. That's bad for you and bad for business." The Devaronian explained.
"Well, if you want to change that, you need to help us." Ezra reasoned with him.
"I doubt that. *sighs* In fact, I think your activities got the Empire's attention, and have made things more difficult for me. Get out of here. You're bad luck." Vizago told them and was about to walk away.
"Do you know why the Empire was so interested in Kanan, why they'd send an Inquisitor to Lothal?" Errol asked him, making Vizago stop and consider his words. Sabine and Zeb knew where this was going.
"Errol, don't." She warned him.
"No, but do tell." Vizago actually showed interest. Errol and Ezra looked at each other and Errol nodded.
"Because Kanan is a Jedi." Ezra revealed. This made even Vizago's droids stop. Vizago was silent for a few seconds until he started chuckling, and then laughed hard.
"Kanan? A Jedi? You two are funny. That scoundrel couldn't be a Jedi any more than you two could." He laughed some more but the two closed their eyes and used the Force to levitate a couple of crates, which the Devaronian saw and stopped laughing seeing that one was over him and another over one of his droids. They then dropped them, making Vizago jump and the droid getting squashed.
"You? You are Jedi?" He asked the two teens.
"And so is Kanan." Errol told him.
"So what does this mean for Vizago?" He asked them.
"It means you help us, and you'll have a couple of Jedi owing you a favor." Ezra stated.
"Hmm. Whatever I ask?" Vizago asked.
"Whatever you request." Errol said, knowing how Vizago works.
"Alright, come with me, boys. Alone." He instructed them and led them into his ship. They followed him into a cargo hold where his droid put a crate.
"Well?" Errol asked.
"First, the deal." Vizago told him and then bowed. Errol looked at Ezra and gestured for them both to bow and so they did.
"Alright, since you blew up the Empire's comm tower-"
"That wasn't us." Ezra corrected him.
"Well, you probably know they have no long range communications, so they've started using these." He told the two, showing a hologram of an Imperial droid.
"Droid couriers. They take data from the city up to their communications ship in orbit."
"And what kind of data, exactly?" Errol asked.
"Everything. You name it. Personnel, weapons, deployments, prisoners." Vizago listed.
"Kanan?" Ezra asked.
"Possibly, but I can't guarantee that."
"Well, that's pretty typical for you."
"Hey, a deal is a deal."
"A deal is a deal. So what do you need?" Ezra questioned him.
"Hmm. Today, nothing. Tomorrow, who knows? I'll let one of you know when I want to collect." Vizago told them.
With this, the two walked out to meet up with the others who had their backs facing them.
"It's okay guys. We have a lead." Ezra called out to them.
Sabine and Zeb turned around, revealing that Hera was there with them, and she looked fuming, especially towards Errol.
"Oh Karabast." Errol muttered in fear.
"For what you just bargained, you better have something more than just a lead." She said, barely containing her anger as she led them all to the Ghost.
"Hera, we know you're mad, but-"
"Mad? Try furious. You just put all our lives at jeopardy. I gave you a direct order, and you disobeyed me. I expected much better from you, Errol." Hera spat at the two teens. Errol was getting more emotional than he thought as his eyes were welling up.
"Well, it paid off. We know how to find out where Kanan is. Maybe." Ezra said. That last point made Hera snap her head to him.
"Maybe? All that for 'maybe'?"
"Hera, none of us are giving up on Kanan." Errol told her, his voice cracking slightly.
"And you think I do?" She hissed at him sounding offended, which made him cringe and his chest feel like it was constricting.
"No. It's why we took this risk." Errol added, his voice being a whimper which made Hera more calmer as she looked at Ezra, then to Sabine and Zeb and then to him and to see him this way actually make her heart sink. She needed to talk to him first before they discussed further.
"Everyone, get in, I need to have a private word with Errol." She ordered everyone and they were a bit scared for him, thinking he'll be in really big trouble.
Once they entered, it was just them two and Hera took some steps closer and this made him react like he was a scared child and he even started crying which made Hera unleash her motherly self and hug him before he could react.
"Shh… calm down. It's okay." She tried to comfort him.
"I'm so sorry. I took this risk for you." He said, his voice muffled from her clothing. Hearing this confused her.
"For me? What do you mean?" She asked, hoping she'd get to the bottom of this.
"You're in love with Kanan. I didn't see it until now because my love for you blinded me for so long." Errol confessed, not only his reason, but also that he loves her.
She couldn't believe what she was hearing. Errol seemed to have thought that she loved Kanan. It would answer why he was distant from her recently. But more importantly, he's in love with her just like she is with him.
"You-You love me?" She asked for confirmation.
"*sniffles* Yes. It's why I'm trying to find Kanan. Because even though you don't love me, I still love you and I wanted to bring him back for you." Errol confirmed.
It was just incredible, she feels so sure now. He has to know the truth.
"I'm not in love with Kanan." She told him. This made Errol look up at her, surprised.
"What?"
"We were in love once. But it just didn't work out well. So we broke up for the better, And especially because… I love you too." She softly told him, wiping his tears away.
Errol was in bliss right now. So much so that his expression made Hera giggle and then placed both her hands on his cheeks, closed her eyes and planted her lips on his, kissing him.
He was flabbergasted at first but all his thoughts melted away as he too closed his eyes and kissed back on her soft lips.
The two wrapped their arms around each other and their kiss was beyond anything they could've imagined. The kiss was full of pure love and care, which made Errol back to his normal self.
After a few minutes, they parted and they looked at each other with nothing but affection.
"You truly are amazing, Hera." Errol whispered.
"Thank you, handsome." She too whispered.
"Looks like we're now a couple." He realised in awe.
"It would seem so." Hera chuckled and they kissed again but for only for a few seconds.
"Let's go and save Kanan." He stated and she nodded. They then parted and walked into the Ghost holding hands, signifying that they're now a couple.
Now with confidence, they listened to Ezra's plan and once it was night, they acted on it.
They reached the city and there was a particular Imperial craft that caught their attention as they were on one of the roofs.
"I'm betting that's the shuttle the Empire's using to get the courier droid to their comm ship. Our only chance is to intercept the droid before it boards the shuttle." Sabine explained to everyone.
"So we have to grab the Imperial droid and send Chopper in its place." Errol surmised, which got said astromech a bit angry.
"Come on, Chop. I'll give you a paint job. The Empire won't know the difference." Sabine assured him.
"For Kanan." Ezra reminded him and with that, the droid agreed.
After Sabine gave Chopper the paint job, she and Zeb took down some Stormtroopers that were escorting the courier droid and said droid beeped frightenedly and fell back.
"Huh. Scared the second it looked at ya." Errol remarked as Zeb put the droid back up. Chopper and Ezra then showed up.
"I know you can do this, Chopper." Ezra said some encouraging words before the droid went off to do his job.
Everyone else went back to the Ghost and Hera flew the ship, high above the sky as everyone else entered the cockpit with the courier droid. Errol sat in the co-pilot seat and watched them deal with the droid.
"Calm down, little guy. We're not gonna hurt you." Sabine said to calm it down.
"Do you have a lock on Chopper's beacon?" Errol asked his new girlfriend.
"Looks like he's aboard the cruiser." Hera informed him, as well as Ezra.
"*sighs* Come on, Chop, find Kanan." Ezra hoped.
After a short while, one of the lights flashed.
"That's the signal." Hera said.
"He must have found something." Ezra pointed out.
"Positions, everyone! We're going in." Hera told everyone. Sabine headed for the nose gun, Errol stayed in the co-pilot seat and Ezra was heading for the gun on top.
"What about this guy?" Zeb asked, referring to the courier droid.
"Take him with you." Ezra told him.
"Why me?"
"Because you're intimidating."
"*chuckles* Can't argue with that. *growls* Come on, you." Zeb said, making the droid move.
They all then fired at the cruiser, aiming for its cannons.
"Gonna make another pass. Choppe better hurry." Hera said.
"Considering this is for Kanan, I have no doubt he'd hurry, beautiful." Errol said, which made her smile because they're now back to flirting with each other in the middle of action like they'd used to.
However, three lucky shots hit the Ghost and it shook violently.
"Whoa! Zeb, we need some help! Try and keep their cannons busy!" Errol told Zeb, who was in the Phantom and there was a fire.
"Karabast! I'm the one who needs some help." He told him but then the droid put out the fire with its own fire extinguisher.
"Hey, I'm starting to like you much better than our regular droid." Zeb said, patting the droid.
As they flew around the cruiser, Hera spotted Chopper floating out in space.
"I see him. Give us cover, Ezra." Hera ordered.
"Chopper, hit it!" Errol then called out as they then flew towards Chopper and caught him in the cargo bay and then they descended fast into Lothal until they flew through the clouds.
"That went well." Errol commented and then kissed Hera on the cheek before climbing down the ladder to the cargo bay where the courier droid met up with them.
"That was amazing, Chopper!" Ezra complimented as he and Zeb climbed down.
"Not bad, not bad." Zeb added and Chopper did a little dance until the courier droid beeped at him.
"He was actually a big help around here while you were off spying." Zeb told Chopper.
"Well, it would be better to have two droids than one." Errol added, liking the new droid. Of course, he knew Chopper would try and push him out of the ship, so he carried him in his arms as Sabine closed the cargo bay.
"And no, Chopper, you cannot push him out. That's rude." Errol sternly warned the astromech, knowing what he would've done. Chopper groaned, while the courier beeped his thanks to Errol.
"Well, since you're now part of the crew, why don't you become my droid?" Errol asked. The droid nodded when Errol put him on the ground.
"And what do you think of the name, Slick?" He then asked and he beeped excitedly.
"Well then, Slick. Welcome to family." Errol said, patting him.
The Ghost hovered in the sky with everyone in the cockpit. Errol was working on Slick, reprogramming him so that he won't have any connections to the Empire and be his droid.
"I'm proud of you. You stepped up and took the lead. Kanan has taught you well." Hera praised Ezra.
"So have you." Ezra told her.
"I think we found something." Sabine informed everyone as she got the information from Chopper.
"Kanan is on Governor Tarkin's Destroyer, the Sovereign. It's still here above Lothal, but it's scheduled to leave soon." Sabine then explained.
"Where to?" Hera asked.
"The Mustafar System? I've never heard of it. Hera?" Sabine said. Not only does Hera know, but so does Errol.
"I know of it. My parents told me about it. They said it's where Jedi go to die." He revealed.
"He's right. Kanan said the same thing." Hera backed him up. Everyone now has to save Kanan.
Well, now both Hera and Errol are in a relationship. And I had to have the courier droid stay with them because I want Errol to have a droid of his own, especially to act as a contrast with Chopper.
