Legacy

A few days have passed since saving the Force sensitive babies from the Inquisitors and things have been rather quiet and this allowed the Ghost crew to relax. During this time, Errol told Hera about how handling one of the babies has made him think of their future together and Hera told him they'll talk about their future together at a later date but that she did think about every once in a while.

Today, she, Errol and Kanan were in the common room around the table, looking at a hologram of star systems, trying to find a suitable place for a base of operations. Errol is wearing dark green trousers, a long sleeve beige shirt which opens out on the left and a black vest over the shirt.

"No, no. We've checked these systems. There's nothing close to a viable location for a base." Hera stated, standing up with her boyfriend.

"Maybe you're just being picky." Kanan argued.

"We have to be, Kanan. To make sure our base is well hidden." Errol told him.

"Kanan! Kanan!" Ezra shouted, barging in the common room. The hologram shut off.

"What is it?" Kanan asked him.

"My parents. Kanan, I… I saw my parents." The teen revealed. This surprised the three.

"I had a vision that they're out there, and I've gotta find them." Ezra then told them.

"Hold on, Ezra. You may be misinterpreting this vision like the last one, remember?" Errol tried to reason with him.

"Just start at the beginning and tell us exactly what you saw." Hera told Ezra, sitting down.

"Okay. Some kind of Imperial prison, I think. My parents were there, and… and then there was this Loth-cat." Ezra recollected. The part with the Loth-cat confused Errol.

"You've never wanted to talk about your parents." Kanan stated.

"That was before this vision, Kanan. It was so real. You have to believe me." Ezra said with his head low. The three looked at each other, realising how this connects with what Tseebo informed.

"I think it's time to show him." Kanan told the couple.

"Show me what?" Ezra asked in confusion.

The trio led Ezra into Hera and Errol's quarters.

"Remember when Tseebo told you he knew what happened to your parents?" Hera asked the teen as they entered.

"Yeah. But I didn't want to hear what he had to say…. That I'd never see them again. Why? Do you know where they are?" He asked.

"We do know that they were taken to an Imperial prison, but in one of a thousand." Errol told him, pressing some buttons on a panel, activating a hologram, showing many planets.

"There are so many. Where do we start?" Ezra asked, taken aback.

"Tseebo didn't know exactly where they were but he had fragments of information which we've been trying to piece together." Kanan explained.

"We called in every favour with every smuggler, trader and pirate we know." Hera added.

"We even asked Senator Organa to inquire with his sources but we just couldn't find anything, Ezra. We're sorry." Errol finished.

"Why didn't you tell me this sooner?" Ezra asked, feeling hurt by this.

"There was nothing to tell. Your parents were just gone." Kanan told him.

"Hera? Errol?" The teen then got the couple's attention.

"Thank you." He told them, now having some closure.

The next day rolled around and Ezra was by himself on the top gun, looking at the hologram of a photo of him and his parents.

"Mom, Dad, I will find you." He said.

"Hey, Ezra, get in here." Errol called for him. He shut off the hologram and slid down the ladder and entered the common room to see Kanan, Errol and Hera there with some holographic display of Imperial records of prisoners. Errol was in the same clothes as last night.

"What is that?" He asked them.

"It's a list of Imperial prisoners. The Empire's deleted their names and images to keep them secret." Kanan said.

"Where'd it come from?" Ezra asked.

"Commander Sato. He knows of our interest in Imperial prisons. His contact in the Core intercepted a report there was a mass escape last night." Hera then answered.

"That's why I had the vision. My parents were a part of this." Ezra stated.

"Possibly." Kanan said, not fully believing that.

"They were! I know it. We've got to find them. How do we find them?" Ezra asked. Errol was getting worried that Ezra is not going to like what he'll find out, giving into false hope.

"I know an old Jedi trick that might be able to help." Kanan revealed, leaving Ezra more hopeful.

"It doesn't automatically mean it'll work, Ezra." Errol reminded him.

"He's right. You'll have to open to the truth as the Force presents it. That can mean something good or something bad. Do you understand?" Kanan added.

"Yes. I understand." Ezra said straightforwardly.

"Turn around and focus on the list." Kanan instructed. Ezra turned and he closed his eyes, holding his hand out and started to scroll through the list.

"Just don't try to see what you want to see and let the Force guide you." Errol advised.

"Be in this place at this time." Kanan added. The list was being scrolled through at a quicker speed as he started seeing visions of his parents in an Imperial prison cell, looking at someone and then he saw some figure that he couldn't see that well aiming a blaster rifle and then a Loth-cat snarling.

"Stop." Ezra said and the list stopped on a particular prisoner, who's information pops up.

"Prisoner X-10. Whoever this is, they were arrested on Lothal for treason. You might be onto something." Hera stated.

"Maybe. We have to find out." Ezra said.

"Hang on. They could be anywhere by now." Kanan told him.

"No, Kanan. Not anywhere. Lothal. That's why I keep seeing the white Loth-cat." His Padawan argued before walking off to his quarters. They followed after him as Sabine came out of her quarters to see what's going on.

"Where's my helmet? I… I need my helmet." Ezra said to himself as he looked around.

"We want you to find your parents, Ezra but even if you're right, you can't go now. We need a plan. The entire Imperial sector fleet has the planet in a blockade." Hera reminded him.

"Um, not anymore. Been listening in on Imperial chatter." Sabine revealed.

"Wait. What's up on Lothal?" Ezra immediately asked.

"The Empire's fleet left Lothal's orbit this morning." She explained. Errol frowned upon hearing this. If they're leaving their post, then something big's about to happen. Something bad.

"Left Lothal? Where to?" Hera asked.

"Doesn't matter. Okay? This is a sign. I'm supposed to go." Ezra said.

"It does matter, Ezra. The Empire could be up to something bad." Errol brought up his worries.

"*grunts* Where's my stupid helmet?" Ezra growled after he kicked the wall.

"I know you have to go but that doesn't mean you have to go alone." Kanan said, handing Ezra his helmet. Errol stood up next to Kanan, signifying he'll join Ezra as well.

"We support you. We're family." Hera told the teen.

"Speaking of family, where are the delinquents?" Sabine asked, referring to both Zeb and Chopper as Slick was on the bridge.

Everyone got on the bridge and Hera told Zeb, who was out getting supplies about the plan to go back to Lothal through the comms.

"Back to Lothal? Well, that sounds like a terrible idea. Besides, we haven't finished getting our supplies." Zeb replied over the comms.

"You can finish later." Hera told him. Ezra was standing and on edge.

"Just get back here now." Ezra snapped.

"HEY! Calm down, Ezra!" Errol barked at him, who stepped back as Errol glared hard at him.

"Not too fast, Zeb. We don't want to alert any Imperial patrols." Hera said to Zeb.

"Don't worry. Not a bucket head in sight. In fact, we haven't seen one all morning. Kind of strange, actually." Zeb said. This made Errol get more concerned. Something bad is indeed happening. Sabine though knew exactly what it was.

"It's not strange. It's strategy." She said, standing up.

"What are you talking about?" Ezra asked, impatiently.

"The Empire always pulls back patrols before a major strike." Sabine explained. Errol's eyes widened and he instantly bolted out of the bridge to get his blasters and lightsaber and then to get outside the ship as the console in front of Hera started beeping.

"Oh, no." She said in worry before looking up to see some Star Destroyers flying in the sky above the city.

"Well, Ezra, if you want to go back to Lothal… now would be the time." Hera said.

They all then joined Errol, outside the ship, looking up at the sky.

"Zeb, get back to the ship. I'll contact Commander Sato. Hurry." Hera said over her comlink though she was breaking up on Zeb's end.

"Sabine, see if you can splice their jamming signal. We'll need our comm." Hera ordered the Mandalorian.

"On it." She said before running back into the ship.

"You three better get going." Hera told the Jedi trio.

"Not until we get Zeb and Chop." Ezra said.

"Just have us ready to fly, darling." Errol told his girlfriend, who nodded as they ran off to help out Zeb and Chopper.

The trio ran through the spaceport until they found the two behind some crates, taking cover from Stormtroopers. They took their blasters out and fired at the troopers.

"Zeb, we'll cover you! Head this way!" Kanan shouted as they got into cover and were at a standstill in the firefight.

And while Zeb joined up with them, Chopper acted a bit cowardly and stayed where he was.

"Get over here, right now, Chopper!" Errol snapped at the astromech. Ezra noticed Kallus appearing from out of nowhere and firing at them from a different angle.

"Got us in a crossfire!" Zeb shouted. The Imperials were then closing in on them.

"We don't have all day. We have to get back to Lothal!" Ezra snarled before getting out of cover, charging at Kallus.

"Ezra, no!" Kanan called out but just fired at the troopers with Errol and Zeb.

Ezra ignited his saber and deflected some shots, which hit the two troopers that accompanied Kallus and then Force Pushed the Agent up against some crates, which he crashed through and then hit a wall, knocking him out as the last trooper was taken care of.

"Well, that's pretty impressive." Zeb complimented Ezra.

"Yeah. I taught him." Kanan replied.

"Well… hello there." A certain voice called out. They all looked to see the Fifth Brother and the Seventh Sister.

"You are not going to get in my way." Ezra growled at the Inquisitors.

"Well then, my brave, young boy come and prove it." The Seventh Sister challenged.

"He doesn't have to prove anything, cheapskates!" Errol shouted at her and fired one of his blasters at the door controls and it closed the blast doors before anything could happen.

"Look, Ezra, I know how important getting to Lothal is." Kanan tried to calm Ezra down.

"No, Kanan. Actually, you don't know what this is like." Ezra snapped at him but then to everyone's surprise, Errol walked up to him and slapped him across the face.

"First off, getting angry is not going to solve anything. And second, taking that anger out on us will not get you any closer to Lothal. So stop getting closer to the Dark Side and calm down, Bridger." He chastised the teen. That thankfully made Ezra realise that Errol was right about his behaviour.

"I'm sorry. I'm just anxious to get back home." He apologized.

"It's gonna be too late for all of us if we don't get back to the Ghost." Zeb reminded everyone.

"Alright. Come on. We'll take the long way around." Kanan said and they all started running.

"Slick is making you look bad, Chopshop." Errol taunted the astromech as they ran past him, who beeped angrily and followed after them.

As they ran back to the ship, they were now getting chased by Stormtroopers and they'd fire back as they got closer and closer to the Ghost. It started hovering and with the ramp open, they all jumped onboard with ease. Hera and Sabine then flew the ship over the city with the other Rebel ships following them.

"Zeb, get on the guns." Hera ordered.

"On my way." The Lasat replied, climbing up to the top gun. The Jedi trio walked up to the ladder when Kanan grabbed onto Ezra's shoulder.

"Come on, kid. We gotta go." He said.

"Slick, you're coming with us." Errol told his droid, who followed them to the Phantom.

Once they boarded, Kanan separated the shuttle from the Ghost and fired at some TIEs. As they flew, the teens saw the amount of damage and loss the Rebellion was suffering.

"Kanan, Errol, I'm going back for Sato and Rex. You've got your opening. Take it." Hera told them over the comms.

"We're not leaving until the fleet is safe." Ezra told her.

"Ezra, she just gave us an order and we have to follow it." Errol said.

"Errol's right, now get moving. And Ezra… I hope you find what you're looking for." Hera said before cutting comms off.

"Don't worry. She was looking after everyone long before we came along." Kanan assured Ezra before they left the planet's atmosphere and entered Hyperspace, heading for Lothal.

After a while, they exited Hyperspace over Lothal and for once, there weren't any Star Destroyers in orbit of the planet.

"You have to admit, it's good to see no Star Destroyers over Lothal for a change." Kanan noted. The whole time Ezra was quiet.

"You alright?" Errol asked him.

"Thank you both for everything you've done for me. You're always there when I need you most." Ezra told them both.

"Hey, I know what it's like to lose someone close and not have anyone. When I lost my Master, I was alone. Regardless of how this turns out I didn't want you to be." Kanan said with understanding.

They reached Capitol City and landed on a rooftop to hide the Phantom.

They then exited and Ezra looked out at the rooftops.

"Where do we start?" Errol asked him as he and Kanan walked up to him.

"Home." He replied.

The trio walked through the streets and reached Ezra's old home to see that it was destroyed and burned down.

"They burned it to the ground." Ezra said.

"I guess the Empire wanted to send us a message." Kanan considered.

"*faint sigh* But my vision led me back here to Lothal. If my parents aren't here, where are they? What happened to them?" Ezra questioned. Kanan placed a hand on his shoulder.

"Slow down. The Force is trying to tell you something. Listen to it." He advised. Ezra closed his eyes and tuned in with the Force and as he did, he focused on the hole and then there was a meow.

It was then that a white Loth-cat popped out.

"The white Loth-cat." Ezra said before approaching the creature with his hand out. He then knelt down and petted the Loth-cat making it meow and purr.

"Here. Nice Loth-cat. Good Loth-cat. I'm not here to hurt you, but you know that, don't you? Who do you belong to?" He then said to it as he scratched its chin. As he finished, it leaped past him and high up to the wrecked door frame and then it meowed at him.

"After it!" Ezra told the two before chasing after the creature.

"Chasing after Loth-cats was the last thing I expected." Errol commented.

"Tell me about it." Kanan agreed with him on that. They then followed after him.

The cat jumped up to a roof and meowed at Ezra as though it was laughing.

"Fast little fuzzball." Ezra said, following it up on the roof and jumped across a gap between buildings, over a couple of Stormtroopers and then again before the chase went down to street level.

The chase got interrupted when someone on a speeder bike got between Ezra and the Loth-cat, blocking the teen.

When it was gone, Ezra lost the Loth-cat.

"Karabast!" He cursed.

He looked around and when he looked to his right, he saw the creature jumping onto a speeder bike and it looked back at him and meowed.

"Hey!" Ezra called out to the guy on the bike but he didn't listen and just took off with the cat.

"Hey, stop! Stop! Wait! Stop!" Ezra shouted after the guy just as Errol and Kanan caught up with him.

"Ezra, there are still Stormtroopers around! Ever heard of being careful?" Errol questioned him.

"Don't worry, okay? I can track it." He revealed to them.

"What? The… the cat? You've grown more powerful if you can track that Loth-cat with the Force." Kanan said.

"The Force? I planted a tracker on it, Kanan." Ezra corrected.

"Now that is more believable." Errol noted.

The three made it back to the Phantom and flew out of the city and into the plains towards the mountains. On the radar, they were close to the tracker.

"The locator stopped up ahead in the mountains." Kanan said.

"This is it." Ezra then said as the older Jedi landed the shuttle on the ground and as they exited, the cat ran in a particular direction.

"Something familiar about this." Ezra said. Errol saw the speeder bike the Loth-cat rode on.

"Ezra." He whispered and nodded to the bike. As they looked at it, a blaster bolt hit the shuttle.

"Get down!" Kanan told them and they ran for cover. Another blaster bolt fired.

Ezra looked over and peeked out and gasped as the figure firing at them was the same one from the vision he saw. He narrowly missed a bolt that would've hit his face.

"It's him. X-10? Hold your fire! We're friends!" Ezra called out to the man, but all he got as a response was another bolt firing at them.

"You have to do more than just that, Ezra." Errol told him.

"That isn't my name, bounty hunter." The man told Ezra in a deeper and experienced voice.

"I know that's not your name." Ezra replied, stepping out, which got the man to shoot but narrowly missed again, as though it was a warning shot.

"Ezra, no!" Kanan grew worried.

"My name is Ezra. Ezra Bridger. I don't know you but I think you might know my parents. Ephraim and Mira Bridger." Ezra called out to the man. Those names got his attention and he lowered his blaster rifle.

"My name is Ryder Azadi. You're right. I know your parents." The man said, taking off his hat to reveal an older man with greying hair, a beard and mustache and blue eyes.

Ryder took the Jedi trio and Slick into his makeshift hut and they talked to the point that nighttime arrived.

"I can't believe you're here, Ezra. I wanted to find you, but I guess you found me first." Ryder said to the teen.

"I know you, don't I?" Ezra questioned.

"Uh, you remember? You were pretty small back then. I was the governor of Lothal. I supported your parents and the messages they beamed out against the Empire. It was part of the reason I was accused of treason and sent to prison with them." Ryder explained.

"I do remember. Then you know what happened to them." Ezra replied. The look on Ryder's face turned grim and sad.

"Yes, I do." He answered. Ezra knew their fate immediately.

"They're dead, aren't they?" He asked for confirmation.

"I'm sorry, son. They are." Ryder confirmed, closing his eyes. Ezra sighed. Errol was saddened, as well as Kanan and Slick to hear this news.

"Please tell me what happened." He requested closure.

"You know, even imprisoned, your parents would stand up for those who couldn't. Especially after they heard your message." Ryder started. Ezra gasped at the news that they heard his words.

"Yes. That message. That message of rebellion you beamed out somehow made its way into the deepest dark of Imperial prisons. They were inspired by it, Ezra. They rallied others to rise up and break out. Dozens of us, rebels, sympathisers, are free, thanks to them." Ryder continued.

"But they didn't make it." Ezra said, knowingly.

"They got separated in the escape. It was just like them not to leave until everyone else got out first. But by then, it was too late." Ryder told him.

"How? How did they know it was me?" Ezra's voice started to crack.

"On the transmission? Your voice, your words, son, telling Lothal to stand up. They knew right away."

"You know, they used to say it all the time when I was little. 'If we don't stand up, who will?'" Ezra now started to shed tears and started sobbing so much that Kanan wrapped his arms around him in comfort. Errol didn't even know what to do as the news was just too depressing for him.

Eventually, Ezra left and sat on a rock, overlooking the plains. Errol got back to the Phantom and contacted Hera.

"Is everyone alright?" He immediately asked his girlfriend how the Rebellion is after the attack.

"Yes. We had a close call, nearly losing Sato, Rex and Alaara but they're alright." Hera answered. Errol nodded, glad that his godfather and grandma are alright.

"Hey, what's wrong?" She then asked, noticing a distant look on his face.

"We've found out what happened to Ezra's parents." He told her.

"And?"

"X-10 was someone named Ryder. He knew Ezra's parents and was imprisoned with them. He explained that they started a prison break and when trying to get everyone out, they died." He said.

"Oh no. I feel so bad for Ezra." Hera gasped.

"And I feel guilty, knowing that I haven't lost any of my family." Errol confessed.

"Hey, don't think like that. It may make you feel guilty, but at least feel sorry for him. And I know you well enough to know that you'll help him cope with his loss." Hera said to him.

"You're right. I'll contact you later. See you soon, love." Errol then said, standing up.

"See you soon." She repeated before they cut off. Errol joined with Kanan and walked up behind Ezra, who was standing, looking at the twin moons.

"Moons are setting." Kanan told him.

"It'll be morning soon." Errol added.

"I saw them, guys. My parents. They were right here. I… I can't explain how." Ezra said as they stood next to him.

"The Jedi teach that life doesn't cease at death but merely changes form in the Force. Your parents are alive inside you, Ezra. They will be. Always." Kanan told his Padawan as the three looked out at the moons.

The shirt that Errol wears is essentially the shirt that Paul Atredies and Duncan Idaho wore in the Dune trailer.
