Silently whistling, Firen Carlisle waited outside of the Beacon Academy waiting for his meeting (or as Vadim had called it, a "Date") to arrive.
To say he wasn't happy with the arrangement was an understatement. He was downright displeased to do this now. Not that he hated Weiss Schnee, but the way she looked at him in class today with eyes that where almost feeling like they were trying to eat him was not exactly pleasant. Plus her constant messaging, while flattering was distracting him from his goal.
But the hardest choices require the strongest wills. Or in this case require an infinite amount of patience.
Soon enough the young heiress approached him, wearing the same outfit as she did when she spoke to him in the library at the beginning of his term. He had pretended not to notice the obvious cleavage she was rocking for…obvious reasons, but this time she had made an effort to look the best she could.
"Hello professor, thank you so much for this opportunity" she said excitedly.
"Please we are out of class, call me Firen" he replied smiling.
Weiss blushed as the two started walking. Carlisle wanted it to be over quick, he wasn't used to doing this. Yes his meeting with Blake was a thing but he was actually interested in Blake as a person, she had a story he could relate too, growing up in hardship. He doubted this rich young heiress had faced any hardships.
"So tell me miss Weiss you come from a pretty influential name with a pretty sizable company. Why come here of all things?" Carlisle asked her.
At this question she suddenly turned silent. The girl had been very chatty up to that point, just happy to apparently be alone with him and get to know him. He just smiled and nodded at most of her chatter. But now this ice cold silence was making him wonder.
"Are you alright Miss Weiss?" he asked her concerned.
"Yes…it's just that," she started rubbing her arm in nervousness "my father…my father always decided everything for me, asked a lot of me for the good name of the company. After my sister left to join the military I thought it was time to try and make my own path…so I came here."
Carlisle gave her a surprising look.
Perhaps I was wrong. Her life wasn't so easy, he thought.
He placed an arm on her shoulder "it can be difficult to leave everything you know behind to forge your own path forward. When I was 16 I had nothing left, I had to fight on my own to get here, it was a difficult period of my life."
Weiss looked at the man she was low-key crushing on, sharing a personal story with her.
"How did you get through it?" she asked as they came to a stop.
Carlisle smiled softly "I had a friend. She uhm…she helped me through a lot of hard times, was a real source of support."
Weiss' face fell upon hearing that. A hint of jealousy was bubbling under the service.
"That's good," she said somewhat reluctantly "I'm glad you had such a good help during your hardest time. Is that friend around here?"
The young professor' smile faded.
"I'm afraid she has been lost for a while. I have no idea where she could be."
His tone was somber, and despite her initial jealousy she felt it hit her. His struggles where laid bare to her. Then she remembered something.
"You know," Weiss started "my family's company recently developed a device to help find missing people. They say it only requires a bit of DNA to function."
"That is very interesting indeed Miss Weiss, do you have the device yourself or is it still with your company."
Weiss shook her head "it was apparently send to one of our benefactors but I don't know who. I wish I knew, maybe this could help you find your friend."
I'm sure it would that's why I need it the young professor thought.
"It is alright Miss Weiss no need to be sorry, we can't have it all" he said, stopping both of them just at the edge of his small house.
"This is my place of residence Weiss, how about we just sit here in the front yard and discuss."
And so they did, talking for at least an hour. Carlisle thought he had noticed a shadow looming near but also imagined it could just be his mind playing tricks on him, he had been searching for so long any sign of a movement would catch his attention. If it was that Arc boy again then he might have to teach him a lesson.
"You know. I always wondered how a man as young and talented as you arrived here?" Weiss asked curiously, she was leaning over to get him to look at the obvious cleavage. The professor didn't look at it, whether it was out of modesty or just not wanting to make her feel uncomfortable she couldn't tell.
"Well I focused a lot of my own studies for a long time and traveled around Remnant. Learning history of various cultures past and present. Eventually I came here and took a shot in the dark to get the position as a substitute teacher. I honestly didn't expect it to work."
"Well you certainly made an impression" Weiss said.
"On whom exactly Miss Weiss?" he asked as he turned and looked into her eyes.
"Well on me obviously" she said proudly. Carlisle looked at her with a raised eyebrow "well I'm happy to discover that I have such a positive impact on you."
Weiss beamed. Her confidence on display as she looked at her crush.
"You show us a view I never imagined. A new way of looking at everything through a lens that's neither tinted black or white, you teach us to see there is always more to a story. And I cannot express how grateful I am for that, how you stand up for what is right and you never judge people too harshly. It's like….like you're out of this world."
Such a suck up, but I guess love blinds Carlisle thought.
As the skies began turning a bit darker and night began to approach, Weiss couldn't help but lean against the professor, staring at the sky with bright eyes.
No words were spoken for a good well, just quietly staring at the sky for a while. Weiss took another step and laid her hand on his, to which he didn't react so she grasped it tightly, butterflies awakening in her stomach for being so close to him.
She couldn't wait anymore, this opportunity was golden.
"Firen" she said and the professor looked at her only to be met by her lips closing around his. Locking them into a passionate kiss.
A few seconds of silence and their lips parted.
Weiss was smiling to herself I actually did it she thought. The look on Carlisle's face was one of slight surprise but happiness as he softly caressed the sight of her face.
"I had a wonderful day with you Miss Weiss. But I'm afraid night will soon be upon us, and I'd rather you'd be safe in your room" he said.
Weiss nodded in disappointment. He was correct but she wished she could stay with him longer.
"That's fine Firen," she said as they both got up and she embraced him deeply "thank you for this day, it was the best. I will try to find out if I can find that device for you. Promise!"
Carlisle smiled at her and embraced her back shortly before letting go. Allowing the heiress to grab her stuff and run off to her dorm room.
Dusk was setting in, it was shimmering on the horizon. The young professor looked around the area finding a nearby bush and placing his hand through it.
With Blake:
She had been hiding in that bush for so long she forgot the time, occasionally looking through it at the pair. Until her heart sank as they kissed.
The Faunus girl didn't mean to spy on them, but after Weiss suddenly left after class Blake began to feel a pit in her stomach and she just needed to know, she needed to know if she was meeting him. And they sure did and right now where locked into a kiss.
Blake was silent and frozen, she wanted to cry.
I thought maybe…..maybe he liked me.
Her thoughts where tormenting her, every worst case scenario possible penetrated her mind and she was left almost stunned shocked. She didn't hear anything of what they said after that. She just felt so…so crushed.
She was only snapped out by a sudden hand on her shoulder.
She sprung up from her hiding place and turned to see the object of her affection looking at her. She wanted to fall through the ground at that point.
"I figured I saw your shadow darting between the trees. Where you spying on me and Miss Weiss, Blake?" he asked.
There was no emotion in his voice, no anger or resentment, just curiosity.
"I….I'm sorry I just…" Blake allowed her feelings to overwhelm her and the tears started rolling down her cheeks. She felt so broken right now, by something that seemed so trivial, her feelings for a man who saw her as probably nothing more than one of his students, the man she had just seen kiss her teammate.
"Blake…" came the concerned voice of the young professor. He walked over to her and held her by her shoulders, looking into her tear soaked eyes.
"Come with me, you need to calm down a bit" he said as he took her hand and lead her to his house. She entered behind him into the kitchen, a quiet and cozy kitchen, small but comfortable.
"Have a seat and calm down, I will make you some tea" he told her as he put her down on one of the chairs. Blake was trembling as he put on water to boil, she couldn't control herself, her feelings where skyrocketing. He had discovered her spying on him and he still wasn't angry, and she had cried in front of him again and yet there was no anger. Just concern.
A few minutes later he brought her a cup of tea, the steam still simmering on top and he sat next to her at the table.
Silently she took a sip as she tried in vain to control her snickering, the tears no longer streamed down but she was still quite emotional.
"Thank you…" she said.
"What's wrong Blake, why are you so upset?" he asked.
"I…," Blake took another sip of the relaxing drink, trying to clear her mind and speak normally "I shouldn't have followed you prof…Firen I just….you and Weiss alone…I know we are on the same team but I just felt so….worried….i don't know it doesn't make sense I am so sorry."
As she started snickering again Firen reached out and places his hand on hers.
"It's alright I'm not upset, it's sweet your so concerned for me. But you don't need to be upset. I will not tell Miss Weiss about it, this is between us I assure you" he told her.
His hand was warm as usual, it felt safe to be held by it.
"Are you and Weiss….are you a thing?" she asked fearful of his answer. "No, absolutely not. Weiss is a fine girl but I have no romantic interest in her whatsoever."
"But the kiss" Blake wondered. The professor bowed his head in shame "ah so you did see that, she really sprung that one on me. I never expected her to make that move."
Blake's heart slowly got back to a normal rhythm as her worries dissipated for now. So he wasn't into Weiss like that, that was a good thing? Well not for Weiss but…
"I'm sorry I caused such a burden…I just couldn't stop worrying about" she was interrupted by her hands on his face "everything is fine. I'm not upset nor angry. All I care about is that you feel better Blake."
He was so close to her, his warm hands against her cheeks. She was getting warm, being so close to him. Her feelings were mixed, relief but jealous at what Weiss had managed to steal from him, a kiss. A kiss she had fantasized about, that she wanted to steal from him but she couldn't.
She didn't want to think about all the things she started to desire once this man burst into the classroom that fateful day. But she was fighting a losing battle.
He looked into her eyes, their faces inches apart.
"May I?" he asked. Blake looked at him, unsure of what he meant, unsure what he just asked her permission for. But she had a feeling, a small hope that he meant what she hoped he meant.
"Yes."
With that Carlisle closes the gap between them, locking his and Blake's lips into a passionate kiss.
