The 5 kids knocked on my door. I knew they were coming, but for the sake of keeping my powers a secret, I acted surprised. Who are you, I asked, even though I already knew the answer.
The leader, Robin, replied. "We are the Teen Titans. We recently heard about a being with powers that were almost godlike. We think it might be y-"
I shut the door. I needed to think this over. I couldn't read Raven's mind. Who knows what might happen with her around? She was yet another Nendo in my path to being a completely normal person. At least I could read the others, but not as well as I would be able to read a normal person's. Starfire thought entirely in Tamarinan, and Cyborg's thoughts were half code. Beast boy was just an idiot. I didn't bother reading his mind. Thus, Robin was my only option. I listened in.
Well, we know he's stubborn. How do I get him to help us out? Clearly, if he wanted to seem normal, he should've played dumb. Now that I know he's the one, what do I do? He doesn't seem to want anything to do with us, and- Wait. Who's inside my head? Get OUT!
It felt like I was being forcefully thrust out of his mind. I had to physically step back, it was so powerful. I tried again, but now I couldn't read his mind either. He had, out of pure stubbornness, made himself a Nendo to me. Shit. I have no idea what they're saying now.
...I should probably answer the door again.
"Well? Why were you in my head?"
I looked at him with the same blank face that I used on everyone. I have no idea what you're talking about, I replied.
"Oh, come on. We're not idiots. We can see that your lips aren't moving."
Good grief. Look, I don't want to join your little 'team'. All I want to do is live a normal life, with friends that don't go gallivanting off to fight villains. Now, please leave. You're gonna make my neighbors suspicious.
"Okay, okay. Titans?"
They all nodded and started to go, but not before Robin handed a business card to me.
"We'll call you. I know you find the prospect of an actual battle… interesting, to say the least."
I simply glared at him as he and his friends ran off. The card simply read "Jump city! Home of the Teen Titans. Visit our Museum of Battles, with artifacts from all the villains who threatened this city!"
I tossed the card on the counter, irritated. What irked me wasn't that I couldn't read their minds, or that Robin had purposely blocked his off. No, what irked me was that he knew I would be interested in a battle with somebody who could pose a challenge. It was almost as if he knew what I was thinking. Good grief.
