Disclaimer: I do not own Teen Titans or Saiki K.
I edited the first chapter, to help the story's flow. Be sure to re-read it if you don't get this chapter.
A few days later, Mom saw the pamphlet lying on the table. Being Mom, she got overexcited.
"Kusuo! We should go! They have superheroes! Maybe we can find someone with powers like yours!"
Mom, we can't go. Senior year is starting soon.
She sighed. "You're right-"
That's when Dad came in through the front door.
"I'm home!"
He and Mom proceeded to coddle each other while I took the pamphlet, meaning to throw it into the trash. However, Mom immediately noticed it, and grabbed it out of my hand.
"Look, honey, someone dropped off a pamphlet in the mail saying that they'll call a random number from someone who has a pamphlet like this, and that person will get to go to Jump City for free!"
Dad grew excited. "You mean, the city with the Teen Titans? The same Teen Titans that saved Tokyo a few months ago?"
"The very same!"
Great. Now they were both excited. I snatched the pamphlet back and went toward the trash, but Mom put her hand on my shoulder.
"Are you really going to throw away your father's dream?"
I shrugged her off. Mom, what if this is another prank by Kusuke?
"Well, it isn't like him to send a pamphlet. If he wanted us to go there, he would've just sent the tickets."
Just then, the phone rang. Dad jumped for it. He grabbed the line.
"Saiki residence!"
He nodded excitedly. "Saiki, they want to speak to you."
I mentally groaned. I couldn't use telepathy over the phone. I'd have to speak.
Mom looked at me. "Kusuo, don't sulk. We'll get to go to America for free if you pick up the phone."
Mom, we can already go to America for free.
"Your father doesn't know that."
"What don't I know?"
"Nothing, dearest!"
She looked straight into my eyes. Kusuo, pick up the phone.
Fine.
I snatched the phone away from Dad.
"Yes?"
Robin was speaking to me. "So, your name's Saiki."
"Look, I don't know why you're trying to convince me to join you."
"If you don't join us, who knows what will happen to you? Your home? Your family?"
"Is that a threat?"
"It's a warning. Other supervillains know about you, Saiki, and they'll stop at nothing to get you on their side."
"Look, I already told you, I'm not interested. You can recruit one of the other superpowered people here. Do you want the guy who can communicate with spirits, or the girl who can tell the future?"
"There are others?"
"Kusuo? Is everything okay?" It was my mom.
Yes, Mom, everything's fine.
"Kusuo, are you trying to turn them down?!" That was my dad.
Dad, I'm not trying to turn them down.
"Saiki."
"Yes?"
"You're leaving for Jump City. Tomorrow." He hung up.
I accidentally dropped the phone.
"...Kusuo?"
Yeah, Mom?
"Is everything okay?"
Yeah, everything's fine.
I stepped back to face both of them.
Pack your things. We're leaving tomorrow.
