Hello all!

The first upload of this went a little haywire, but I think I got the hang of it now!

Thank you so much for your wonderful reviews! It's so true when they say they brighten up your day!

Nell Lime: I love the idea of a story around a Midsummer Night's Dream and your plot ideas! You should definitely try your hand at that!

Anne could feel Gilbert's eyes on her as they sipped their lemonade. She hated when he tried to read her, especially when it was glaringly apparent how good he was at it. He knew her better than anyone, and it was irksome. There were things she wanted to keep hidden and, if he kept at it, it wouldn't be long until he figured them out.

Eyes trained on the ground and chin held high, Anne uttered what she knew was unthinkable. 'Well, I believe Diana marrying Fred is a mistake.'

Gilbert flinched. 'What?'

'She is settling because she thinks he's all there is. She'll grow angry and resentful, bored, and she'll wish she'd never done it,' Anne stated matter-of-factly and unmoving.

Gilbert tried to school his features and failed, his shock overwhelming him. Not only was she blatantly insulting his best friend, but when she spoke of marrying someone from home and called it settling- it felt aimed at him, intentional or not. Finally, he forced himself to shake that off and focus on her spoken words.

'I hardly think that, Anne,' Gilbert snapped. 'Fred is my best friend, and I know no better man. Maybe you should trust that Diana knows her own heart.'

Anne glowered at him. 'Don't you dare tell me what I should know about Diana! She is my bosom friend and kindre-'

'You know what, Anne-,' Gilbert interrupted hotly, 'Oh, forget it!' He huffed and looked away, utterly exasperated.

'What?! Say what you mean, Gilbert,' Anne challenged. 'If there is one thing I cannot abide, it's someone who cannot speak their mind.'

Gilbert laughed harder than he should've, 'Is that so?!'

Anne fumed and very much considered knocking him to the ground.

'Alright then. I've noticed a pattern, Anne! Whenever we come close to the truth, you pick a fight!' Gilbert burst. There, he'd said it.

'What truth?!' Anne sputtered indignantly, a furious blush coming to her cheeks. She stood up in a flurry of skirts and clenched fists.

'Did you ever think, Gilbert Blythe, that it might just be that you are not as charming as you think you are?! That we fight so much because you are, in fact, infuriating?!'

Gilbert couldn't help when yet another laugh escaped him as he threw his hands up. This was precisely what he was talking about.

As Anne began to stalk away, Gilbert rushed after her, determined to end this.

Whew! Seems like things are starting to pick up! I hope you enjoyed it! As always, please review!
