Slime Diaries: Farming and Respect from one's Savior
Rimuru arrived in Goblin Village by the time the snow thawed completely, unaware that he spent the entire winter level-grinding in Veldora's Cave.
And a lot of things happened in three months, before Orc Disaster happened, getting him involved with Oni, Lizardmen, Touka and Orcs.
Traveling to Dwargo and dealing with a Kangaroo Court. Dealing with Adventurers and Shizu's death. Building and educating Hobgoblins to top it off while building...and dealing with Demon Lord Visitations and Inquiries!
And now, they're the Jura Tempest Federation.
Spring arrived.
It was also the first spring, for the otherworlders.
This also means...farming!
'Why are we all out here?' Gokudera wondered. They found baskets outside their bedroom doors with a note saying, 'Wear these and meet outside the hotel.' It was a hat, tank top, a pair of breeches and galoshes!
And they all gathered at this farm. A farm they all built for self-sufficiency.
'While we adults have been doing this for months, this is an educational field trip for the students as well.' Rimuru declared as everyone was dressed appropriately for farming. 'This is to teach the children how valuable food truly is, and to never take food for granted, considering how long they take to grow. This is to discourage bad eating habits as well, knowing how long it takes for our food to grace our table.' he explained. 'For our first year, we'll be reliant on crops that grow within one month until we all stabilized by the end of the year, before we introduce newer varieties that take a long while to grow.'
'Eh? You mean what we see in the cafeteria isn't all that?' Yamamoto piped up.
'Yes.' Rimuru nodded. 'Due to our situation, we prioritized farming a Grain Terrace to mass produce bread and noodles to help satisfy starving bellies as soon as possible, as well as planting vegetables that grows quick. Our fruits mostly came from the Dryads who live in Treant Forest and its those very Treants producing the fruits we eat. Once we have enough flour in our storehouses, we can proceed to dealing with introducing new vegetables. I'll show you our Grain Terraces. This way kids!' he said as the adults led the children of all races to the terraces. It was a majestic sight, the Grain Terraces. It's golden brown in sight, halfway-grown.
'You'll be spending two weeks farming with all of us, before we go back to the classrooms!' Rimuru told the japanese children.
'Wah, never thought we'd be farming...wait, what's Touka doing?' Ryohei asked Rimuru as Touka flew above the terraces and spread her arms wide, and amassing a lot of magicules before directing them to the terraces.
'Grain Crops takes ten months to grow.' Rimuru told them. 'But by feeding magicules into the crops as fertilizer, this speeds up the growth of the grain that they're harvestable in a month. However, Touka is only one person who can do this and that is thanks to her skills. Her main focus in farming, is feeding magic into the terraces every day to speed up their growth.' he explained. 'Normally, she does this every morning before going to school to teach but today, I had her do it a little late for you to see.'
'Heee...'
'The grain here are for bread, noodles and chicken feed. But doing this process mutated the grain in a good way beneficial to us so everyone's well-fed!' Rimuru chimed. 'But uhh...the magicules in the grains mutated our chickens too. Its to our benefit all the same!'
'...that explains the huge meats we eat now.' Gokudera sweatdropped as in the hotel, their first day since arriving? They had to share the chickens they got and force themselves to eat it all up and got bloated on their first day! One chicken drumstick alone is filling! And don't get them started on those hardboiled eggs! They're the size of goose eggs!
After Touka treated the farms, they all worked together on the vegetables. Harvesting the ripened crops, obtaining their seeds, and then tilling the soil with hoes, before pouring water into the soil and till it again. It was hard work.
By lunch time, Shuna came with a team of women to provide lunch. Savory Soup and a chicken and egg sandwich. As for water, it was chilled with magic.
'Man that was tiring...and we'll do this for two weeks?' Yamamoto fanned his hands. Despite the cool season, it still feels hot from all the work they did!
'Its an educational field trip.' said Touka. 'Especially for people who just buy food in the market, never knowing that food comes from here first.' Touka snorted. 'Thus for impressionable minds like children, we should nip picky eating out of their habits as soon as possible. For monsters before Rimuru-sama and I came along, they lived by hunting and foraging. Farming never became an idea for them until we taught it.' she informed them.
'Thus they don't have kids much due to Supply and Demand issues as Prey have limited reproduction capabilities. Building a town is not possible without a food source.' she told them. 'Now that by next year there's a food surplus, there will be confidence that people can have kids again as there'll be plenty of food to raise children. Until then, everyone went Two Child Policy. It doesn't help that monsters have longevity or immortality. So saying that raising children is a little tough is an understatement of the century.'
'Heee...'
'See my students?' Touka pointed at the goblin, orc and lizardmen children. 'They may look like that, but they're as old as your parents.' collective spit-spray of shock ensued from the boys and Nagi choked on her sandwich. 'As far as I'm concerned, we're the youngest residents here. Rimuru-sama still considers himself 38 years old since his death as a human, even though he's seven months old as a Slime.'
'Ooh...'
'Other than the Slime, who's the strongest?' Hibari asked Touka.
'Rimuru-sama is more like a Mage than an actual fighter.' Touka giggled at his inquiry. 'He's cunning and creative with magic. He doesn't fight with his fists or a sword because he's learning from Hakurou-sensei how to be a swordsman.' she explained. 'Hakurou-sensei is the best fighter in this town when it comes to swords, Benimaru-san coming second. I'm the one good with fists, so he comes to me sometimes, and Gabiru-san is good with the spear as is any Dragonewt around. The High Orcs are more into double-bladed war axes.'
'Heee...' Hibari mused, intrigued. 'Then small animal, fight me!' he demanded.
'If you can still stand by the end of the day.' Touka sweatdropped. 'Even for monsters, farming is back-ache work!'
Not just weeding and tilling the soil and planting seeds in, their last activity, was cleaning the chicken farms and performing maintenance repairs on the chicken coops.
All this, took DAYS as there's so many farm plots in order to feed an entire alliance!
(By the end of Spring Break, Hibari never got to get that fight, because she was right. Their backs and arms HURT.)

Next day, school...
'Welcome back to school kids!' Rimuru chimed, handing out potion capsules to the tired children in his private class. 'That is a potion covered by a thin layer of magicules. Carefully pop the top with a finger and suck it all up to heal from farming aches, so you can focus in class today.' they did just that because they can't even think properly due to how tired they are and ached!
But when they drank it, they instantly felt better!
'That, is a Full Potion.' Rimuru told them. 'Costs 5 gold in the market, equivalent to 500.000 yen.'
That, was to their horror.
'EHHHHH?!'
'What the hell sensei!' Gokudera's eyes popped as he sputtered in horror. 'Medicine here is THAT expensive?! Paracetamol in Japan costs around 480 yen!'
'Low Potions cost 4 silver coins, about 4000 yen. High Potion costs 35 silver coins.' Rimuru chimed as the teenagers easily did math of the costs. 'The reason Potions are expensive, is because its ingredient, Hipokute Herbs are so rare, growing only in Magicule-Rich Places.' he said. 'Touka's job isn't just feeding our grain, but also, flooding Veldora's Cave with Magicules she gathers from the north and the east. We farm the herbs there so they'll grow. Buuut as a consequence, monsters spawn from too much magicules in the air but that's Gabiru's team to deal with. It serves as combat training for anyone interested, too.'
North of Jura Forest is an ocean separating them from the Ice Continent. East of Jura is the Eastern Empire.
Touka gathers excess magicules from both places in a subtle way that she would never be found out.
According to Treyni, north of Jura across the ocean, was the Ice Continent where the Demon Lord Guy Crimson lives. The Ice Continent was the way it was, because of Velzard, the Ice Dragon releasing her aura, hence, excess magicules which Touka in turn, secretly exploits for Jura Forest AFTER destroying the ice properties in the magicules, to avoid bringing winter to Jura too soon. The Eastern Empire is a tyrannical empire that only kept quiet so far because of Veldora's presence. Thus Jura is very alive and rich in magicules thanks to her trick, ever since she joined Tempest.
In the alliance, Touka had leveled up everyone, reaching their peak level of strength as a race. Well, only the willing fighters, that is. Its to the point that Rimuru, the Kijin, Dragonewts and Orcs, as well as select few Hobgoblins who chose to fight, are stronger than they should be known to humans in secret. By being at their peak strength, they are prepared for anything incase shit happens. They subtly kept this a secret from Dwarves of course, though they did notice that magicules are plentiful lately due to their jobs, but no idea what's the cause.
With her trick and Gabil's group cultivating Hipokute, Potions will be cheap for them soon enough, and exportable!
That is known only to select few in Rimuru's Circle who can keep secrets.

Two weeks after Spring Vacation, rainy season came.
'Rain...this is one thing to watch out for, we can't drown growing seedlings or we're gonna have problems.' said Ryohei worriedly.
'I don't wanna break my back for nothing!' Yamamoto cried in alarm. Because they had their first taste of farming and how long they take to grow, they now got worried and anxious.
'Oh don't worry about that, Touka puts Engraved Barriers on fields when seedlings are growing while it's raining.' Rimuru reassured his class and it's currently Science Class. 'The barriers turn that heavy deluge into gentle misty spray so the seedings will not drown while keeping the ground moist enough for seedlings!'
'Ohhh...' they got relieved as they don't want to start over or deal with food shortages...

After rainy season is the Summer.
But!
'IT'S HOOOOT!'
Was the collective consensus, if going out the streets, that everyone were functionally shut-ins, courtesy of Engraving Magic at homes activated to cool down the house and its heatstroked inhabitants. The Dragonewts have it so bad they all retreated to Veldora's Cave where it's cold and damp. The Orcs were just as bad off, reliant on Engraving Magic while working, barely avoiding sunburns and heatstroke.
Outside any building, it was hot, that everyone mostly stayed indoors.
'Thank God for Engraving Magic!' Gokudera gasped out during lunch break. 'The way to school was killer!' they also all dressed lightly. 'How soon can we learn Magic, Touka?' he whined to the giggling succubus.
'Next year Hayato, next year, when all of you are physically healthy.' Touka told him. 'Mages require a specific physical constitution even mages in human countries are beefy if you're a guy while women who may be slender, at least are physically fit.'
'Come to think of it, how are the farms?' Yamamoto asked her.
'The farms are OK despite this heat, I made sure of that.' Touka tut-tutted with a finger wag. 'I activated the thermal regulating formula so the farms are comfortable and the crops won't dry out while still enjoying the sun.'
'Heee...you thought of absolutely everything...' Gokudera marveled in amazement of the girl who could have been Juudaime. Touka beamed in her smile.
'Of course. As modern earth human, Rimuru-sama and I came up with creative ways to use magic. Things people of this world seriously didn't consider.' said Touka with a snort. 'That it's not just for battle but also to substitute for modern day comforts that we lost, like electric fans, air-conditioning and heaters when weather gets too much.'
'So does that mean we can fight after school, small carnivore?' Hibari smirked in anticipation.
'Of course.' Touka smiled. 'I'll ask Rimuru-sama to be on standby just incase. As a reminder, monster physiology is different, OK?'
'That just makes it more fun.' Hibari was oozing bloodlust now.
'Oi oi, even with your skill, can you keep up with a monster?' Mukuro asked him with a raised eyebrow. 'They are physically stronger than us even at our best.'
'Of course. How would I get any stronger if I don't challenge strong carnivores? I refuse to stagnate even in a world like this.' said Hibari coolly. 'Fangs are best sharpened while we still have free time.'
'Well, I do hope you improved under Hakurou-san and Benimaru-san, senpai.' Touka remarked. 'If you wanna last past two minutes.'
Hibari just got all the more excited.
His lifestyle changed entirely and had to put up with crowding since getting isekai'd no thanks to those damn mages. He was also taken from his territory of Namimori and now, in a town ruled by a former Japanese who is now the Slime Boss of this town, thus he must respect the rules of the carnivores and had to redo his life, he wants some familiarity back somehow.
Thankfully, Rimuru and Touka compensated however they can as they built the town.
Buildings.
Clothes. He requested Shuna make a copy of his usual clothes, which the nice kijin did for him cheerfully.
Food.
Life Comforts so it was less irksome.
But what annoys him is crowding and until he and his group 'graduate' from school in order to get by in this world.
Thanks to Touka's trick, they learn fast to graduate sooner. By winter, they're DONE.

After school...
Military Division...
'So Kyouya asked to spar with you today huh?' Rimuru asked as at the school grounds, everyone was dressed lightly to bear with the summer heat. So P.E Classes today, is cancelled.
'Yes.' said Touka. 'He wants to see how far I came since then.'
'Oho! A good upperclassman looking after his junior indeed!' Rimuru bounced happily on Ranga out of approval. 'If only such good personality is widespread in our native country!'
'Kyouya-senpai, I heal pretty quick, so do NOT hold back, OK?' Touka reassured Hibari. 'Its normal if I lose a limb or three or get a hole somewhere, I'll regrow it right back anyway as long as I don't lose my head quite literally or an attack at my heart. Those two will really kill me.' Hibari's eyes widened with his mouth an O, Mukuro went blank cracked white granite, the others were terrified at the idea at how she casually dismissed such scary scenarios.
They supposed by becoming a monster, gruesome injuries are merely nothing to them and just a fact of life?
The skills of the four older boys will make a good fit in this world. The strongest is no doubt: Hibari Kyouya.
Hibari's skills are:
Intrinsic Skill
Fighting Instinct - learns and improves in his fighting skills, combat senses, reflexes and instincts in live combat experience. Thus to get better, must fight those stronger than him to grow as a warrior. In a short few years, he'll be an S-Class Fighter for sure.
Fast Reflexes - self-explanatory. But he takes it to inhuman levels.
Intimidation - uses his presence to intimidate anyone he deems weaker than him.
Extra Skill
Enhanced Healing Factor - will heal from any injury in less than a week if it will take any other weeks or months or even if a doctor deems them lost cause. Even broken bones will snap back, reform and heal in place. This is also affected by his Unique Skill to temporarily upgrade to Ultra-Speed Regeneration. He COULD have upgraded himself when Rimuru taught him how, but Hibari decided 'that makes things boring'.
Keen Smell - highly-sensitive to any scents. But given Hibari's nature, he is most sensitive to the smell of blood.
Strengthen Body - he can do this at will, influenced by his Unique Skill.
Resistances
Steel Will - he is extremely stubborn and strong-willed that by sheer stubbornness and defiance alone, no skill or magic can ever, control or brainwash Hibari unless its an Ultimate Skill.
Pain Resistance - can resist pain that will normally, make humans howl and beg for help. For Hibari it's no different from a bruise no matter what injury he gets as long as its not fatal like vital organ injury.
Cancel Abnormal Condition - he will never get ill in this world.
Unique Skill
Propagation - this skill carries the ability of increasing and multiplying. As such, it is suited for anything that involves increase of size and multiplication of numbers. Thus by triggering this skill, he can increase anything he wants. Be it numbers, size, effectiveness, concepts, traits, skill level, etc. of anything he uses this skill on that he manifests a number of Sub-Skills if this is activated. In short, he can be a Human Champion with this skill and can be a match for monsters. However, he himself can decide if its effects are temporary, or permanent. His limit with this skill, is his own imagination, beliefs and doubts. He could have been unstoppable otherwise.
Perceiver - Allow the user to observe and study the enemy while letting the user know how to use their strength effectively to defeat their enemy.
Hibari is a living cheat code of a Juggernaut as a fighter. No doubt the Kingdom of Falmuth is kicking themselves now for alienating Hibari, for blatant dismissal of the incoming deaths of Nagi and Lambo just for having no Skills and perfectly fine with them dying.
Touka knew him well enough that as long as done right, Hibari will respect you. Cross Hibari's lines, he's an enemy you won't want. Lambo and Nagi fall along the lines of 'small animals' Hibari will protect.
'So Kyouya will fight Touka huh? She's our best in terms of fists.' Hakurou mused thoughtfully. 'The boys are learning the sword well, but they have their own style.'
'I wonder how far he can go with Touka.' said Benimaru. 'I'm looking forward to this.'
It was a Mexican Stand-Off at first...before the two lunged at each other and began fighting blow for blow.
Touka increases the speed, strength and agility of her blows and Hibari was catching up fast to the stupidly-ridiculous point that Rimuru swore they re-enacted Dragonball Z in front of him as Hibari is definitely using Propagation now to catch up to Touka. As they watched, Ryohei could feel excitement boil in his veins as he watched.
It was good Touka quickly heals to compensate for the damages Hibari deals her. She has Ultraspeed Regeneration as a sub-skill to her Unique Skills that losing limbs or chunks of flesh didn't bother her one bit. To be fair she tortures Hibari just as much, and he also quickly heals as long as he has magicules to compensate.
Hibari was hesitant at first when he tore off her arm into a gory mess, horrifying his companions except for Mukuro, Touka didn't react a peep and regrew said arm in seconds as she claims she would and healed instantly. And she blew up her severed arm afterwards!
The spar lasted until the sun was completely gone to which, Rimuru ended the fight as by then, Hibari is now as good as Touka in fighting.
'Yosh! End!' he barked as the two teenagers stopped, all bloody and messed up until they triggered their unique skills to heal in seconds.
'Hmmm...you indeed grew well in this world I can no longer call you 'small animal' anymore.' that was the highest praise Hibari could give to anyone, evident by Touka's elated delight at his approval. 'Grow up some more and become a Demon Lord or something. I will fight you again then.'
'You're unbelievable!' Yamamoto sweatdropped. 'If she's become like that, you'll be chunky salsa sauce!' he could not believe that in this world, Touka grew so strong.
Gokudera felt Vongola and Reborn deserved some smacking. Had Touka been raised with care, she could have become THIS in Earth! But nooo! Morons let her break apart!
Mukuro whistled. Touka could have been Vongola's Strongest Boss in history, but alas indeed. She chose death and is happily living here in this world where she became formidable.
In Class, they were taught about Skills by Rimuru and what Touka can do, that she was a living cheat just by existing just like him and them. Rimuru also guided them in their skills and how to exploit them. Because Touka was a fellow countryman, Rimuru decided they should know each other well to work as a team. They must be strong individually by mastering their skills with creative ways of using it, so that if they work as a team, they will be Calamity Class as a whole. They have that potential.
