Chapter 6
I sighed, as much as I did not want to share her with him tonight, I knew that it would mean the world to Bella. Jacob was her best friend. I also found it kind that he was putting his selfishness away to show her support. Seeing him in the darkness, I could see his vision focusing on Bella. Of course, it would, he loved her. Jacob would of course wish that this could be him and not me.
I prided myself in knowing that she picked me. I was the monster she loved and wanted to join in eternity.
Jacob looked at me and nodded, a sign of respect?
'Thank you for allowing this fang boy.'
"Thank you, This is very... kind of you," I said, biting back any hatred and venom I wanted to spit at him. Bella would never forgive me.
"Kind is my middle name. Can I cut in?" Jacob asked, smiling as he eyed Bella.
'She is so beautiful! If only... But she can't be fought for anymore.'
I watched as Bella's eyes grew wide, giving me a big smile as she placed a kiss on my cheek and ran as safely as she could to her best friend. "Jacob! Jacob!"
"Hey there, Bells," said Jacob as he wrapped her in a friendly embrace.
I smiled, "I'll go see if my mother or Rosalie would like a dance. I'll be back soon." I said as I walked away. Even though I walked away, I kept my ears open, as did my family. We did this so we could listen for any sign of frustration.
"I'll give them this much, They know how to throw a party," said Jacob. I watched through his mind as he held her, dancing as Bella looked at him, feeling unsure about dancing as she usually did.
Bella nodded as she responded, "Alice is an unstoppable force of nature."
This I could fully agree with, I walked towards my mother Esme, "Mom, could I have a dance?"
Esme smiled gently and nodded, getting a kiss on the cheek from Carlisle before we moved to the dance floor.
"Song's over. Do you think I get another one? Or is that asking too much?" Jacob asked gently.
I knew that this would be the case. She had not seen her best friend in months, so I did not mind so much.
"You can have as many dances as you want."
"That would be interesting. I think I'd better stick with two, though. Don't want to start talking. You'd think I'd be used to telling you goodbye by now, You're not supposed to be the one crying, Bella."
I wanted to strangle Jacob for making her cry.
"Everyone cries at weddings," Bella retorted, I could see as she rested her head on his shoulder in an attempt to hide her tears.
Jacob paused, holding her body respectfully. "This is what you want, right?"
"Right," Bella agreed.
"Then smile. I'm going to try to remember you like this. Pretend that . . ."
"That what? That I died?" Bella sneered. The irritation in her voice was clear.
"No, but I'll see you this way in my head. Pink cheeks. Heartbeat. Two left feet. All of that. That's my girl."
I looked at Rosalie as she rolled her eyes. "His girl?" She snickered. "Stinking mutt wishes."
I nodded and moved my attention from the situation, realizing things would be alright for a moment.
Rosalie was truly beautiful, though I would never love her as I do for my Bella.
"Enjoying the wedding Rosalie?"
Rose smiled and nodded, dancing with me. "I am. Remember, I have never been upset with Bella being with you."
I chuckled. "Now that is a lie."
Rosalie rolled her eyes, "Well of course at first I did not. There was a huge risk. Her saving your life from Aro," She paused for a moment, "I knew she was the one for you. I suppose my irritation has been that she seems to look at human life like such a terrible thing."
I nodded. "Yes, though I can understand. I suppose it would raise quite a few questions for me to have a wife at the age of seventeen who was so much older than I, not that I would love her any less. She's my Bella."
Emmett made a gagging noise from across the dance floor, smirking at me as he kept an ear on the situation between Bella and Jacob.
"Yes. You two belong together. I am sorry that I ever got in between you two."
I looked at her, it was very uncommon for her to apologize for anything.
She rolled her eyes again. "I know, how uncharacteristic of me. Though seriously, you waited over a century for her. Honestly, she is an incredible human. I know she'll be an impeccable vampire once she is one of us... I just only hope that she never regrets her decision to be changed."
"You and I both," I stated. Rosalie smiled as we stopped dancing, letting her go as Alice wanted to join me. Alice danced with me as she showed me images of Bella and I's honeymoon location.
I lost my focus on her visions when I heard Bella and Jacob speaking more.
"What is it, Jake? Just tell me. You can tell me anything."
"I—I... I don't have anything to tell you," Jacob said defensively.
"Oh please. Spit it out," Bella probed, her tone sounding annoyed.
"It's true. It's not... it's—it's a question. It's something I want you to tell me," Jacob admitted.
I could not help but look into his thoughts.
The change... No longer human...
My eyes widened.
"Ask me," Bella begged again. She hated secrets.
"I shouldn't. It doesn't matter. I'm just morbidly curious," Jacob sputtered, finding a hard time to say exactly what he wanted to ask.
"It's not tonight, Jacob," Bella stated, realizing what he was talking about almost immediately.
"Oh, Oh. When?" He asked curiously, his tone sounding shocked.
"I don't know for sure. A week or two, maybe," Bella babbled.
"What's the holdup?"
"I just didn't want to spend my honeymoon writhing in pain," Bella chuckled.
This I could agree with. If I could make her honeymoon enjoyable at least, it would make me very happy. The minute I heard Jacob's thoughts, I nearly chuckled. I nodded to my sister, politely excusing myself, pretending as if I was going to the restroom for the humans.
"You'd rather spend it how? Playing checkers? Haha," Jacob guffawed, seeming to be in disbelief.
"Very funny," Bella said, rolling her eyes.
"Kidding, Bells. But, honestly, I don't see the point. You can't have a real honeymoon with your vampire, so why go through the motions? Call a spade a spade. This isn't the first time you've put this off. That's a good thing, though, Don't be embarrassed about it."
I did not want to sleep with her until she was changed, but I knew this was something I at least had to try, to give her that human experience. I did not lie to myself, I was looking forward to the experience as well.
"I'm not putting anything off, And yes I can have a real honeymoon! I can do anything I want! Butt out!"
Go, Bella! Emmet cheered, happy to hear her back talking the mutt.
"What?" he gasped. "What did you say?"
My eyes widened, oh lord... he would lose it any minute. I got as close as I could, just to monitor the situation, but to also make sure I could get there quickly if something were to escalate.
"About what... ? Jake? What's wrong?" Bella asked carefully.
"What do you mean? Have a real honeymoon? While you're still human? Are you kidding? That's a sick joke, Bella!" Jacob snarled, the wolf nearly bursting from him in anger.
"I said butt out, Jake. This is so not your business. I shouldn't have... we shouldn't even be talking about this. It's private—" Bella whispered, insisting he should leave it alone.
"Ow, Jake! Let go!" Bella whimpered out. It ignited my anger, I rushed forwards.
"Bella! Have you lost your mind? You can't be that stupid! Tell me you're joking!" Jacob practically begged. He did not even realize he was hurting her. He was letting his mind take over.
"Jake—stop!" Bella begged.
"Take your hands off her!" I hissed, my two brothers behind me as I went to hold the back of my bride, trying to pry her away from his scalding tight hands.
"Jake, bro, back away, You're losing it. You'll hurt her, Let her go." Seth begged, attempting his best to pull Jacob away.
"Now!" I hissed again, a snarl in my voice as I was able to finally pull her back.
Bella's expression looked so pained.
"C'mon, Jake. Let's go." Seth suggested, trying to do what he could to keep Jacob calm.
"I'll kill you, I'll kill you myself! I'll do it now!" Jacob threatened me, the snarl of the wolf coming through his voice.
"Seth, get out of the way," Worry flowing through me that Seth would get injured in Jacob's angered rage.
"Don't do it, Jake. Walk away.C'mon." Seth said again, finally pulling Jacob away with the help of the rest of the wolf pack.
I looked towards my bride, whose beauty still stunned me as I looked at her blushed face.
"I'm sorry," Bella whispered.
Why would she be sorry? His anger was not her fault.
I shook my head, turning her towards me, placing a gentle kiss on her forehead, softly rubbing my hands down her arms, helping to get her circulation back into her hands.
"It's all right now, Bella. It's all right. Let's get back." I suggested, to pull her away from blaming herself.
"But Jake—" Bella murmured. Her tone was clearly worried. While I understood, who knew what his next plan would be right now.
"Sam has him in hand. He's gone." I realized this situation was poorly handled in all directions, but Bella was right. It was honestly none of his business.
"Edward, I'm so sorry. I was stupid—" Bella whispered.
How I wished she would not blame herself.
"You did nothing wrong—" I started to say.
"I have such a big mouth! Why would I... I shouldn't have let him get to me like that. What was I thinking?" Bella sighed.
I wish she would not worry about what that mutt thinks so much. Rosalie thought, coming to look over the situation. Good thing he did not destroy the dress... He'd have his worst nightmare on his tail... literally.
I chuckled quietly, nodding to her as she went back to the party.
"Don't worry. We need to get back to the reception before someone notices our absence." I smiled, pressing my lips to hers again.
"Give me two seconds," I nodded as Bella gently used her hands to survey her appearance. "My dress?"
"You look fine. Not a hair out of place." She was more than fine, she was absolutely breathtaking. Many men, primarily Bella's old classmates were pining for her, even as a now-married woman.
Bella smiled, nodding before hastily taking my hand in hers. "Okay. Let's go."
