The Hase Jäger Chapter 3
Labyrinth City Orario: Tower of Babel: Floor 1
Morning: Little Past Dawn
Third Person: Omni
Bell quickly walked through the first floor inorder to reach his subterranean destination. His movements were completely silent despite how the boots would have made a clicking noise on the stone floor.
"Isn't that kid the one that ran up in minotaur blood?" One of the adventures asked their partner as the beginner adventures quickly passed them on the way to the labyrinth.
Labyrinth City Orario: Tower of Babel: Dungeon Floor 3
Morning: Day
"17," Bell mumbled to himself after dodging another attack from a kobold. Slashing its neck with his long hunting knife, it poofed into black smoke. But Bell did not linger to watch the magic stone drop as he used a kick to get the other monster near him away from some room to breathe. His method of fighting grew more than doubly efficient once he got the knife from his teacher.
"18, 19, 20." He quickly notes with his talking the kick had the monster fall into a sharp protrusion of rock, killing it. A knife throw for the shorter knife was ill-advised if one were unable to retrieve it, but he was already going that direction to attack the dog-like creature to the targetted left's side. His silent speed allowed him to stab where the heart would be and retrieve the knife from the still falling corpse of the other.
"And 21." He finishes up with the group of dog-headed enemies by backflipping and stabbing a knife into the spinal cord of one that tried to sneak upon him. If it were any other rookie adventurer they would be overwhelmed if they did it alone.
"How long of this would it take to reach Ais…" He remarks as he starts picking up the items that fell to the floor. His musings did not really detract from his knowledge of what was happening around him.
"Miss Erina says that the basics are important, really echoing what my master says but… an item drop?" He noticed something strange among the scattered stones he was picking up absentmindedly. A nail from one of the kobolds.
"How lucky." He remarks as the sounds of something digging through the wall behind him catches his attention. He turns to look back, finding that the wall behind him is starting to crack. More of them started to peek through and spawn on him.
"Should I run?" He asks himself as he unsheathes the two knives once more, not noticing the 10 kobolds that he now has infront of him.
"You know, if you are overwhelmed you will die." "You can do it." And his infatuation ran out over his master's advice as to the image of the sword princess flashes through his mind. If his teacher knew about this, he would first facepalm himself before lecturing Bell about being cautious.
"Divide, conquer." He states as he kicks one's legs out from under it, taking only a moment to stomp on the chest before slashing the arms of two that are close to him, making them flinch back to give him some space to finish the other by crushing the neck.
"22, 23, 24." He quickly notes as he throws the still dissipating body to the third closest to him and quickly finishes the two that he had injured earlier. A jump of the shoulder of another to dodge another attack has his weight slamming on the back of the 25th killed today.
"Tsk." He clicks his tongue in annoyance while blocking an attack from one of them. It kicked him a few steps back, though thankfully, or unfortunately if you really look at it, not into any others.
"26, 27, 28, 29, 30." He threw the knife in his left hand, the eyes besides his own immediately went to the knife flying through the air. It stabbed into the forehead of one of their brethren. The distraction gave enough time for Bell to slip in silently and finish off another 2. When they finally noticed something wrong, Bell was standing on the 29th kill of today and already in the motion of sliding his longer of knives into the ribs of the 30th.
"Hello, mister 31. How would you like your death?" Bell remarks while sliding the knife back out of the kobold he threw a knife into. The final one of the batch looked at him in a confused manner, almost as if it couldn't compute the quick dispatch of the other 9 of its comrades.
"Stab it is." He remarks with a gruesome cheer that developed from the guest of his master. She always did have a grim sense of humor whenever they decided to hunt together. It rubbed off on him and only really showed when in open combat… alone or with her.
"Don't take your gaze off me will ya?" He was already like a ghost, unseen and silent unless it wanted to kill you. He was already in front of it, reaping the life of the monster with two knives, one to the brain and the other to the heart.
"Good night number 31." He remarks while letting out a breath. It was quite a bit of magic stones to clear up now. At least his harvest today is plentiful, though he might have to fight on the way up, so it would be best to reserve some energy for the rest of the journey up.
"Man, this is really exhausting without using one of the more ranged weapons." While he did train extensively with knives and daggers of many kinds, he was still a hunter that used a bow, arrow, and spears. While he didn't need to use them, it would have been nice to use the options.
"I wonder if I can get any good meats." He remarks after getting everything from the floor. He decided to walk instead of run out of the place, taking a cautious approach as he greets various adventures coming down the main path.
Labyrinth City Orario: Business District
Afternoon: Bright Day Light
"So I reserve 1000 Valis for the tavern food, 2000 for savings, and the rest of today's money for preserved foods." He remarks quickly after checking the Valis he got after multiple runs through the dungeon. He made sure to keep the money amounts in the notebook that he brought with him from the village, though he was in no way an accountant, he was good with money considering what his teacher taught him about managing it.
"Alright, I have 2500 Valis in order to feed 3 and a half months for about a week and some extra to eat in the dungeon and some to reserve for emergency food." He remarks to himself, making sure to keep out of the way of fellow shoppers. He knew good meat, it had been practically branded into his head after his teacher taught how to process an animal, and learned a few cuts from the local butcher.
"This Venison looks great." He remarks while looking through one of the butcher stalls that sell wild game, the type of meat that he was obviously most used to.
"How about it for 100 vals." The young woman behind the counter looks over at him, while not the most popular meats, it was quite cheap, especially with refrigeration of meats being a breeze now adays.
"Sounds good to me," Bell remarks quickly, already doing some calculations on what the market price would be here, finding it to be in the acceptable range. It is good to find a supplier of game meats, especially when you consider.
"There aren't many besides the Artemis Familia that sells wild prey like this sadly." She remarks in a slightly sad manner, there was in fact barely any people that cane over to the stall, in fact, Bell was the first today to do so.
"Well, the regular livestock is probably less expensive right?" Bell remarks as she wraps the venison steaks with a waxed paper, making sure to seal it correctly inorder for it not to spoil as he travels.
"Sadly you speak the truth, it is hard making enough to stay afloat. Are you a hunter?" She asks after finishing off the leg of a buck. Bell quickly gives the amount of money that they agreed upon.
"Former, My teacher taught me a lot of stuff like making preserved meats and such. I came over like a lot of others to become an adventurer." She looks at his equipment with an appraising eye. It was clean and well maintained but it was still the standard-issue stuff you could get from the guild.
"Certainly look like an agile hunter… no bow?" She asks in a very interested manner, it had been a while since she could talk to a man that was not after her for marriage.
"I kinda forgot to take the kit that master prepared for me, the courier that he sent is arriving in two days now." He smiled a little sheepishly at that, rubbing the back of his head of white hair.
"Good afternoon Ursa." A young woman spoke as she arrived at the stall. Dressed leather armor that had a familiar symbol of a fully drawn bow and the crescent moon. Her dark brown almost black hair was tied into a long braid and from the top of it were a pair of dog ears. A quiver full of arrows on her back and an unstrung bow slung over her right shoulder showed that she was in the dungeon a bit earlier.
"Good afternoon Callisto." The now named Ursa spoke to the young woman of the Artemis Familia. She graceful smile on her face as she walked to them with an agile step. She stopped smiling and observed the level 1 adventurer. His appearance reminded her of a white rabbit. She looked at him as if searching him for something.
"So, who is the kid? Another of your admirers that decided to give you a shot?" She asked the young stall worker with a slightly teasing voice but still kept her eyes on the young man.
"Oh, he is a new adventurer, originally was a hunter too." She remarked with a cheerful note, it was quite fun to talk to the rather well mannered young man.
"Nice you meet you, my name is Bell Carnel of the Hestia Familia." He makes sure to place the acquired deer on the table before introducing himself to the young woman. Her ears twitched a few times before she remembered why Hestia sounded familiar.
"Oh, Hestia found a familia member?" She remarked with a bit of surprise, not of mocking note but of a rather pleasantly surprised variety. After she let those words escape she looked a bit sheepish.
"Sorry, that was a bit rude of me. My name is Callisto Cirillo of the Artemis Familia." She quickly noticed her mistake on commenting about the familia, even if their gods were on good terms, it was still rude to talk like that to probably the only Hestia member. One who probably didn't know their relations.
"I know you didn't mean anything harmful by it. Don't worry about it. So you are an adventurer." The lady at the stall just looked a little bit amused at being ignored as they talked about things like this. It was not like it was interrupting business anyway. Bell decided to pickup the meats in order to not bother the Ursa more than necessary by taking up counter space.
"Yes, all the members of our familia are adventurers. I work as a scout when in groups." She remarks with a smile, proud of the role that she played in the group, especially helpful with her enhanced senses when compared to the majority of human members in the hunting party.
"Cool. It is nice talking to you, but my goddess will probably get home soon so I need to prepare these for tomorrow." He politely cut off the conversation from continuing. Not even bothering about asking to party up, she already worked extensively with her familia anyway.
"Talk to you later then." She states before waving him goodbye and turning back to Ursa to get some meat for her own familia. Bell took a few more hours to get the rest of the ingredients, leaving another 400 Valis for the food fund.
Labyrinth City Orario: Hestia Lodgings (Rundown Church)
Night: Early Night
"Are you sure it is right? I jumped all the way to over 300 points!" He exclaims as he reads the paper that was transcribed with his stats. She pouted while looking away from him, cross-legged on the foot of the bed.
"I even got 30 Vit points from being hit only once!" He didn't even notice his goddess's annoyance at the huge jump in numbers. Khu would have just face winged at the entire situation, as would any other woman in the know.
"This never happened before." She suddenly stood up from the bed that she used often. Her hair tied into black twin tails swayed lightly from the sudden movement onto the stone ground.
"Kami-sama?!" He asked, to dense to realize why exactly that she was annoyed. But then again he didn't even know about the skill that was causing the explosive growth due to her hiding it.
"Why did I grow so quickly?" He was bashful in the way he said the question. But that was enough for her to reach into the wardrobe and wear the only shirt inside.
"Don't ask me." She says as she slams the door closed on the dresser. Her stomping feet was what only he could hear as she stalked to the door in an angry manner.
"Kami-sama… Kami-sama… My Goddess?" He said a few times inorder to get an answer to the question that popped into his head as she stomped to the door.
"What?" She asked in a tone that indicated her annoyance. It was obvious enough that even Bell could pick up on it.
"Where are you going." He asked innocently. The question itself gave her a bit of a pause to think something up.
"A-a party with my co-workers. You can have a wonderful dinner and a great time by yourself." She points angrily at her only familia member. Even he knew that she was lying through her teeth.
"I can't believe that he grew that quickly… just how strong are his emotions for the Whallenwhasit girl anyway?" She thought to herself in a bit of melancholy as she stalked out of the home and into the night to a small pond in the ruins of a temple. Throwing rocks while pondering.
Labyrinth City Ororio: The Hostess Of Fertility
Looked into the pub that was bathed in the warm glow. At the moment a few people were inside eating. But he got the feeling that it would fill up very soon as the adventurers made their way back out of the dungeon and wanted good food to eat.
"Mr adventurer! You came!" The silver-haired woman from before looked out of the tavern. She quickly came outside and down the steps while holding an empty tray.
"Yeah." He remarked with a slight smile, still slightly out of it due to Hestia's action at the residence earlier.
"I haven't introduced myself yet. My name is Syr Flover." She bows toward him. Her actions are comfortable yet uncomfortable at the same time.
"Did you hear about Freya looking over her familia residence lately?"
"Yeah it is strange, she usually stays in her room at the tower of Babel… I wonder why she was actively at the familia residence so much lately."
"Don't go and start theorising now. It would be no use and the familia would be after you as well."
"You are Syr's friend right? You are pretty cute for an adventurer." The woman behind the food that was being served. She placed a plate of pasta infront of him as she did so. He quickly checked the menu behind him to make sure of the price, though he did so discreetly. He was a bit stunned at the large amount that was on the plate.

Note: Hope you all enjoyed the chapter, as you can see I decided to do chapter 3 of this instead of Hero And Fighter. I am inspired to write A Retired Officer's Shop In The Eastern Wonderland though, so that will be coming out first. Within the next today, even tomorrow if the trend keeps up.

pix25: Nice chapter, those two skills are going to be very useful especially with Bell's speed, he'll be silent everywhere
Response: Thank you for enjoying the chapter. Yeah, it gives me a few more options story-wise as well.
