The Hase Jäger Chapter 4

Orario The Labyrinth City: The Hostess Of Fertility

Evening

Third Person: Omni

"Everything in total that I have is around 500 Vals…" The white-haired adventurer quickly calculated the cost for the pasta dish and the drink that they gave him, some sort of juice now that he tasted it.

"Not enough right? Here's today's special!." The cook brought over a fried catfish dish, scaring the poor kid when the sound thumped out.

"I didn't order it!" Bell quickly yells out.

"Don't hold back, you are still young." She said before walking back to the other side of the bar-like counter to talk to another customer.

"Today's special is… 850 Valis?!" Bell looked over at the menu that they had up for today, making a horrified expression. He had 1000 for tonight's dinner and thankfully saved 300 from the foodstuff.

"So, are you having fun?" Syr asked while she was coming back to the counter to receive another plate of food.

"I am a bit overwhelmed… and feeling poor," Bell stated with an exhausted voice. If his teacher saw him doing this he would just sigh in exasperation before joining in.

"Sorry. But at least I can count on getting paid tonight." She giggles into her hand as Bell stared at her with an exasperated look.

"Glad for you even if I did pay you back…" He just took a piece of the fish and ate it without even looking.

"When there are so many people… there are so many things to discover. I can't help but get excited. You could say that meeting people is my hobby." The tavern is one of the best places to do so after all.

"The customers with a reservation has arrived." A young cat woman with brown hair stated from the entrance as she led the new group in. Everyone stared at the colorful group that came in.

"Gah…" Bell was only thinking of a single person though, the last person through the door was the woman that saved him yesterday.

"Hey, she is gorgeous…"

"Idiot, don't just go talking like that, look at her emblem."

"Yeah, she is part of the Loki Familia."

"Wait, the one that has the title as Giant Killer?"

"The same, making her the…"

"Sword Princess!"

"Mister Bell?" Syr just waved her hand in front of his face. She got no reaction due to Bell's mental functions shutting down.

"Good work in the dungeon you guys. We are having a feast tonight! Drink Up!" The head woman of the table spoke up with a mug of an alcoholic drink in her hand.

"The Loki Familia are regulars here," Syr explained to the smitten white haired adventurer with a smile.

"It would seem that their goddess, Loki, quite likes the place." Bell was half listening while mainly focusing on the blond human of the group. But that was enough attention to memorizing it in his head, he was able to multitask after all. Though he almost laughed as Aiz hit their goddess in the head as she was trying to sneak up on her.

"Aiz, let's tell them all about the thing." The silver-haired Chienthrope said with a mug of the drink in hand, a light blush across his features due to the alcohol getting to his brain.

"What thing?" Aiz just asked with a disinterested tone.

"You know! The time we let a bunch of Minotaurs escaped on the way back. You took the last one out on the fifth floor right?" Everyone was now paying attention to the young man.

"And you remember that tomato dork right?" Bell instinctively knew that it was him that the man was alluding to.

"A wimpy kid who obviously just started adventuring and got cornered by one of the Minotaurs that ran from us. When Aiz split it in half and sprayed all the stinky blood all over him." It is often said that a person's true self comes through with alcohol, but his Teacher told him never to fully trust it, it would only reveal the most prevailing emotion and an enhanced version as well.

"And get this, the tomato kid just ran off afterward. Our princess saved him and he just ran off." The group besides Aiz and the green-haired elf laughed at the story. Bell felt the words stab into his mind.

"In that situation, he can hardly be blamed," Aiz said with a calm voice. The green-haired woman spoke next.

"Enough Bete. It is our fault that the minotaurs escape the seventeenth floor. You should be ashamed." She spoke while looking at the white-haired man with a serious gaze.

"What is wrong with saying trash is trash!" Bell knew that it was not the man's truest self, but it still hurt to hear. Bete leaned onto the table before addressing the other woman that spoke up.

"Aiz, in your opinion, hypothetically, who would you pick. Me or that tomato kid." The man said while putting his hand directly on the table.

"Bete, you are drunk, aren't you?" The Pallum with golden hair said to him.

"Aiz, I am talking to you! I am asking whether or not you would accept if he offered you a date? No way right? A whip who is far weaker than you doesn't deserve to stand by you." The man yelled aggressively.

"Thank you for the food. It was good." Bell immediately put the amount he calculated onto the counter before scooting back his chair, interrupting the conversation between the man and woman. He silently fast-walked past them, completely contradicting in their eyes. He was moving, yet the force of his steps should have alerted them to his movements, yet it did not make a sound.

"That is the tomato kid!" Bete took a few seconds to recognize the rookie in his drunken state, around the same amount of time for Aiz to realize it was him herself. The green-haired woman also looked annoyed at Bete's lack of awareness of the trouble he caused.

"Bell!" Syr quickly tried running after him alongside Aiz standing up to do the same. By the time they reached the door outside, he was already an extreme distance away from them.

_(IS IT WRONG TO PICK UP GIRLS IN THE DUNGEON?)_

6th Floor Of The Labyrinth

Night

Bell quickly slashed through the toad-like minsters, killing them with incredible efficiency. He was simply a blur to the monsters, far too quick to catch off guard. The only time where he was even slightly exposed was when he was slashing one of their brethren.

The monsters here were dissolving far more slowly than the monsters on the second floor, though it is a measurement in the milliseconds. The main reason why supporters were needed in the dungeon, especially in the later floors.

"Come on!" He yelled at the top of his lungs as he hacked and slashed, leaving a trail of monster smoke in his wake. His breath was even as he killed using a speed that the monsters and many LVL 1 adventurers could not react to.

"Nope." He parried a surprise attack with his gauntlet, a kick in retaliation launched him into another toad monster, killing both of them in a matter of seconds. He felt that the area was safe at the moment, something backed up by his sharpened senses.

He slowed his slightly elevated breathing when he lowered into a sitting position, already knowing that he would need to pick up the magic stones before a monster decided to eat them and become stronger, he felt that it did not matter at the moment.

Clap Clap Clap "Well done Bell." A familiar voice sounded off in the dimly lit room. He turned to the Artemis Familia's Scout that revealed herself. The warm lighting caused her to be a sight to behold.

"Good… Night...? Callisto." Bell was surprised at the sudden reveal of the young woman, someone who was observing his movements for quite some time now that he thought about it. He was also confused at the time right now.

"Yeah, it is still night right now. You are probably wondering why I am here right?" She said with a smile as her pointed ears twitched, almost as if she was listening in on something. He just nods in response.

"Well I was down here for a late-night stroll, I usually keep an eye out for any late-night beginner adventures to make sure they stay alive," Bell remembered that whenever the Artemis Familia was not doing hunting missions outside of Orario, they were inside the dungeon on the higher floors to keep it safe.

"Alone?" Bell asked, it was surprising to see any member of an established familia in the dungeon without anyone else, they were usually at least in pairs, something that Bell's youthful and innocent look did not help with.

"Everyone else is playing around in our home, I decided to do some light exercise before going to bed." Bell almost sighed at that, to any high leveled or experienced adventurer it would just be a light exercise or even just an annoyance.

"So when I saw you run into the dungeon, I decided to follow and make sure you didn't kill yourself with careless abandon. But from what I saw, you are quite sensitive to danger anyway." She said with a calm tone, to Bell, she is a rather calm person.

"Looks like my fear was unfounded huh." She had a sheepish hand to the back of her neck.

"It is not like it is unfounded at all, if the safety lessons from my teacher and grandfather were not drilled into my head, I would probably end up like a majority of beginner adventures."

"You make a good point." Her tone was a bit more humorous now that she was actually getting a fairly casual response. He rears perked up at an unheard sound, and Bell's intuition yelled at him to be ready for combat.

"War Shadows?" Bell remarked the stronger monster of the floor dripped down from the ceilings like black ink, turning into warped humanoid shapes made from shadows. Single red eyes bared down on the two of them before they charged right at them.

"You will be my support, depending on how many each of us kills we split to the ratio," Bell said with a calm tone, adjusting the grip on his two knives once more as the group of shadows drew closer.

"Fine rookie… I have no idea why you are commanding me though." She said with a sigh, it would not be right to steal the kills of the young man if he could handle it, and she had more than enough funds at the moment. Besides, it would give her negligible experience since she was much stronger than them.

Bell quickly dashed forward, coming in close quarters to the shifting shadows, already he trusted her aim to not shoot him in the back by accident.

"Honestly…" She sighed to herself as she took a shot at one more than he expected to draw, something she could tell by his snapping movements away from that one. Now that he had another person to fight with, he was able to waste less energy on sudden correction in movements.

Despite how experienced he is, he was fighting a new set of monsters and was still trying to find where the magic stone was generally located. Compounded on the fact that he was fighting alongside a person with a different habit when fighting.

"5, 6, 7…" He said to himself while cutting through the necks of the shadows. His red eyes almost glow in the contrast of the dim lights and the pure darkness of the shadows.

"He is getting faster isn't he." Her eyes widened with every movement he took, the originally clear color difference blurred from his speed, turning him into a brown and black blur with a conspicuous white top. Even to her LVL 2 capabilities, it was getting harder to see him. It was already far past what should have happened for the LVL 1 that has been active for a month.

"You're getting distracted." Bell noticed the sudden change of sharpness from her shots and called her out on it while hooking and twisting an arm from an attacking shadow with his knife in the icepick grip.

"Right." She snapped out of it from the tone of voice, even with her as a veteran, she was being led along by his leadership. She immediately focused once more, not lingering to think about the strangeness of the teenager.

"My 4." He suddenly voiced after a few more movements and mumbling of his kill count. On instinct, she shot in the designated direction, stunning a shadow that somehow slipped through the group of 3 he was fending off at the moment.

"Almost done," Bell commented after finishing off the four shadows, if the other monsters had any self-preservation instincts, they would have already run by now, yet they still mindlessly charged forward with clearly telegraphed attacks.

"14, 15, 16…" By the time he reached the end of the group, he was already accustomed to their attacks and her moves, something that a new adventurer would never be able to do.

"Well, that was fun." Bell smiled while breathing with a heaviness that came only after a huge workout… considering that he has been non-stop fighting for a few hours at the very least, it would make sense.

"What were all those commands about?" Callisto now had time to think about everything about the fight, it was a contradiction to her, even a hunter would not be that experienced in the many factors that came new to him in that battle.

"Well, it was mainly me copying my teacher, I thought my commands were clear to another hunter," Bell said with a bright smile, already shoving the thoughts about Aiz into the corner of his mind for later.

"...I only really learned to respond to those commands after a year working with the Artamis familia, and not my hunting background." She looked at him with a quirked brow, it was strange how he knew these things and had her thinking about just who his teacher was.

"Huh, strange. Teacher taught me all that during the first few months under him saying 'If you can't easily communicate with others, or make simple commands as a leader, you will end up dead at some point. For your goal and dream, it makes these skills all the more important.'"

Callisto thought that made sense, but for someone to teach about leadership that early is strange… though with Bell being the first Hestia Familia member, he would definitely have to learn as the captain for any new people that will become members… something that will happen as he rises up.

"Come on, let's get these stones sorted out." He said with a sheepish grin to her before going off and starting to pick up the small stones. Looking at him acting like this is quite nice for her… and she honestly did not want to see this sight disappear.
