Chandler and Monica took their kids out to the driveway to learn how to ride their new bikes with no training wheels. As usual, Erica went first without hesitation she glided down their driveway and started pedaling. She did wobble a little but got the hang of it pretty quickly. Monica stayed next to her trying to stop her from going too far from the house as Chandler stayed with Jack.

Jack was nervous. He stood in the driveway looking at his bike trying to figure out how it worked before getting on. "I can't do it" he shook his head.

"Don't say that until you've at least tried it Jack" he said softly fixing his helmet. "I'll hold onto the whole time."

"Promise?" Jack looked up at him concerned.

"I promise."

Jack looked at his bike again before swinging his leg over and sitting on his bike gripping the handlebars tightly keeping his feet on the concrete. "What happens if I fall over?"

"Then you can get back up and try again when you're ready" Chandler gently held onto one handlebar with his other hand on Jack's back. "It'll be ok. I'm right here. Just put your feet on the petals and we can go."

He nervously put his feet on the petals. Immediately he wobbled on the bike making him inhale sharply as he put his feet back down on the ground. He looked up at his Dad unsure if this was a good idea but his Dad held him upright and smiled reassuringly.

"You're doing great. Take your time."

Jack nodded, slowly putting his feet back up and looking at the driveway in front of him. He started to pedal cautiously looking back and forth at the street double, triple, quadruple checking that no cars were coming. Jack saw his Dad walking with him as he moved forward and he became more confident. He pedaled slightly faster and Jack made a small u-turn in the road before going back up the driveway. He stopped and got off the bike with a smile "we did it!" Jack hugged his Dad tightly, smiling when he felt his arms hug him back.

Chandler knelt to his level keeping a hand on his back as he spoke. "You did great. Do you think you're ready to try it by yourself now?"

Jack looked at his bike and frowned at the idea. "I don't want to fall," he mumbled.

"If you fall I will be right here to save you I promise Jack. I know you can do it bud" Chandler got up and picked up the bike so he could get on. "I'll hold you until you have a good momentum and I'm going to let you go ok?"

Jack nodded, getting on the bike again staring down the driveway uncertain if he could get through this. Putting his feet on the pedals cautiously he waited until his dad was holding him. They started to move down the small hill of the driveway eventually going a bit faster. He glanced to his right to check if his father was still next to him before he pedaled a bit more going down the street. Jack focused on the road ahead when he felt his Dad let go he swerved a little trying to regain his balance.

"You can do it Jack just keep the handlebars straight" Chandler encouraged as he stayed by him.

The boy made it a few more feet before he lost balance and fell onto the hard concrete. Tears immediately blurred his vision as he started to cry.

Chandler quickly went over to him and picked him up moving the bike out of the road before sitting on the curb with his crying son in his lap. "It's ok," he said softly, trying to calm him. "Where does it hurt?"

Jack pointed at his knee and wrapped his arms around Chandler's neck crying into his shoulder.

He looked at his knee seeing his jeans ripped and his skin scraped. "Hey, it's okay. We can put a bandaid on it and it'll heal" Chandler held Jack close to him "You're okay I promise."

"I'll never ever never ride a bike again!" Jack whined.

"Jack, it's okay to fall down. It's okay to not be good at something on your first try. You shouldn't let one mess up stop you from trying again. We don't have to ride it right now, but I don't want you to give up. Once you get the hang of it, you and your sister can ride your bikes together and have so much fun" Chandler took off his helmet and gently pushed his hair back. "When you're ready I want you to try again. Do you think you can do that for me?"

Jack didn't respond for a few moments before he reluctantly nodded. "Okay…"

"Okay." Chandler stood carrying Jack in one arm as he pushed the bike back with the other. "We can get you a bandaid and then get you one of Momma's cookies for being brave."

Jack perked up quickly, looking at his Dad with a big smile. Chandler chuckled at his instant mood change, dropping the bike off by the garage and going back into the house to take care of his son.
