Time passed and in a week, while Sandy made himself at home with Lana and her family, his parents, Delcatty and Boltund, were already at ease with Sarah's family. Skitty and Yamper were more than happy to have their evolved forms living with them which brought back memories for the two as they remember their time together and with Sandy in the Unova Region prior to their arrival in Alola. They even showed a rare playful side to Houndoom and Rapidash, the two older Unique Horn and Dark Hound Pokemon finding it easy to connect with them given their shared parental nature to those they see as family.
Sandy was seen as the perfect new addition to Lana and her family of five during that time. While it was still hard for Delcatty and Boltund to be away from their son after he decided to live with her, they knew it was time for him to become a man and the Pokemon he's meant to be through Popplio's care and her and Lana's love for him.
As for Sarah herself, after she helped the Prim and Dog Pokemon settle in, she had been working on a new set of armor in her lab called Dragon Scale Armor, made from the scales her dragons shed as they got older.
All of her suits have leather bases in a mixture of Melody and Echo's melted amber coupled with Shadow's saliva that acted as a perfect adhesive substance of a more powerful glue for the scales and was very flexible which included a strap slung on the right shoulder with a new scabbard for her father's Sun Sword and a hook for her mother's Moon Shield.
Aside from the usual aspects of armor and what she had tweaked for her own body structure, greater mobility, and flexibility, there were some new additions she added like voice-activated grappling hooks, similar to that from the Moon Shield, and lassos were built into the armor arms along with portable wings with small jets on the back for flight. Her helmets were shaped like her dragon's heads with eye/mouth holes for greater visibility and communication while wearing them.
In total, Sarah made eight suits of Dragon Scale Armor and each of them was made differently, working in their own unique ways according to her dragons' abilities:
- The first suit was made from Shadow and Winter's scales with a bright white chest plating, leggings, arms, and pants while her shoulder, knee, and shoulder pads were all a dark midnight black. The helmet was based on Winter's head with some black patches dotted on it.
- The second suit, conjured up from the combined scales of Skystorm and Flystorm, had its pauldrons, chest plate, torso guards, pants, gloves, and gauntlets a beautiful teal shade with hints of pink, purple, and yellow and the leggings and boots were instead blue with shades of orange and pale-green, complete with an orange helmet with little spikes on the back based primarily on Skystorm's head.
- The third suit was made from Phoenix and Sunflare's own scales, being predominantly red with black stripes and magenta shading while the pauldrons, chest plate, torso guards, pants, gloves, and gauntlets were red with magenta shadings on the ends, and the leggings and boots being blue. To top it off, a red helmet was made resembling Sunflare's head.
- The fourth armor suit, built from Venom and Rosethron's scales, had its pauldrons, chest plates, and torso guards snowy white but the pants, gloves, gauntlets, leggings, and boots were brown with yellow stripes based on Venom's wing pattern. The helmet resembled their heads, being brown with pink shading on the makeshift horns.
- The fifth suit of armor, made out of Mist and Spark's scales, contained a blue and green spotted pattern throughout the bulk of it and it was further embellished with two horns and a fin on top of the helmet coupled with rounded protuberances, being shaped like their heads.
- The sixth suit, from Twilight and Dawn's scales, has a predominately black and red pattern throughout, the helmet being shaped after their heads complete with little tusks fixed on the bottom.
- The seventh suit, crafted from Melody and Echo's scales, spore a fanciful orange, blue, and black pattern with the helmet bearing a resemblance to Melody's head as evident by the small horns on the top.
- And, finally, the eighth suit, crafted from Tidal and Hurricane's scales, had more of a dark blue coloring with a pattern of light blue shading with the helmet designed off of Hurricane's own head.
After collaborating with Nate and his fellow scientists from Grid Battleforce and lengthy discussions and rigorous testing, the suits were able to be manipulated and changed into data, downloaded, and then placed into a new Morpher and Key (both of them modeled after Dart) the princess now dubbed the Dragon-X Key and Dragon Armor Morpher.
The work she had done on the suits had taken a lot out of her and she was edging for a much-needed chance to relax and take a load off of herself. That was exactly what she got the following Saturday as she and her family were enjoying the bright Alolan sunshine, November having quickly rolled by Thanksgiving was around the corner. Even her dragons were feeling contempt in living out the rest of their lives like this whenever they weren't out saving the world from the forces of evil including Lothor and Evox. Team Skull had gone in the dark since Tupp, Rapp, and Zipp's latest bout of humiliation, and Team Eclipse was not making any plans for an ambush as of now so for the time being, everybody was able to relax and be at ease with one another.
But, while they were all relaxing and making the most of the days leading up to the coming family holiday, they had no idea that they would be on their biggest adventure to date; one that would put her dragons on the spot and reveal a shocking truth that could change everything between them and her forever.
"You know, Winter, I never would've imagined how much we take days like this for granted nowadays," sighed Sarah, lounging with Winter and Shadow curled around her from a tree nearby.
"A knowing yet sentimental feeling we all share," nodded Winter as she and her mate basked in the sun while their family played around them, their fellow dragons napping or also taking time to bask in the sun. "Makes me wish that we could go back to the simpler times in life before we became part of a greater legacy and an ongoing war between good and evil amongst many things."
"I wonder if things will finally be normal again," the princess pondered. "Maybe, when Lothor's finally destroyed and and his forces from Team Eclispe are wiped out, we can finally look for my parents... They must be worried about me..."
"You think they might still be around even if they gave their lives to save you and your region?" questioned Shadow as he woke up and lifted his head to face her.
"If there is any clue as to what really happened to them and if they aren't really dead after using their sealing art from Tsukumaro, I've gotta find it. Every lead counts and it's been so long..."
"Well, I'm happy with doing this for as long as possible!" chirped Dart as she and her brothers joined their parents and their rider. "No monsters, no Ultra Beasts, no robotic bad guys, just peace and quiet with all of us together."
"And, no crazy wars, either," agreed Ruffrunner.
"Totally, nothing can ever ruin this perfect day for all of us," smiled Pouncer, smiling confidently.
"Are you sure, Little Pouncer?" boomed a familiar voice from outside, knocking on the doors/gates as everybody gathered heard him. "Princess, are you there? Would you like a moment?"
"Tapu Koko!" chirped the Night Lights in surprise before they looked at and pointed their tails at each other. "Jinx!"
"Knock it off, you three. Let's go outside and see what he wants now," replied Sarah, leading her family outside to the front of the house where he was currently waiting for them. "Tapu Koko, what brings you back our way? Anything wrong happening in Alola right now?"
"Something is wrong, Princess, but your world is perfectly fine and I commend you and your family and friends for keeping it like that for as long as you did. I fear this new problem I've come to tell you about actually comes from another world, a world I'm sure your dragons are familiar with before making their new home here."
Sarah blinked, "What?"
Her dragons were looking antsy at the mention of a world they alone are familiar with and from their worried and desperate reactions as they debated on how to deal with the subject, she could tell that it was something pretty sensitive to them. She didn't know what it was about this world they were originally from that would make the dragons apprehensive nor did she have any clue of their origins but she was about to get her answer.
"My dragons?" she asked, concerned.
"While you did meet them and their families at their island abode last Christmas, I must tell you that you haven't known about their origins and where they originally came from for quite some time. I felt a powerful and heartbreaking disturbance that requires your attention because out of your entire team, between you and your friends, you're the only one amongst them who can help the dragons deal with this problem."
"And, where is this place where we'll have to deal with this problem?"
"As I said, you won't find it in this world but in another world, on a far-off island in the middle of the sea known to the denizens and your dragons there by one name - the Isle of Berk."
Sarah blinked in surprise by this but she heard gasps from her dragons and she turned to the adult dragons, all of them filled with an intense mix of horror, shock, fear, anger, and absolute outrage. Their children, on the other hand, never knew about their parents' homeworld since they were primarily born in the World of Pokemon and in their former island home in their current world and they never had to experience whatever horrors their families had to go through prior.
"The Isle of Berk?" echoed Mai?
"Never heard of it," replied Kaji.
"Any idea what that place is supposed to be?" asked Spectrier, confused.
"No clue," put in Entei, also baffled from hearing such an unknown place.
"Well, whatever it is, it's bound to be a place only the dragons know apart from their kids," noted Aqua. "But, why would mentioning it get them all riled up like that? Is there something wrong with the place that makes them want to flip out or go nuts or something?"
"Does it really sound like a bad place to go to for them?" Poipole questioned curiously.
"Sounds like fun, we should check it out," added Slurpuff.
"Bad, bad? It's not just a bad place and it's not fun, Poipole, Slurpuff... It's an ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE FOR US DRAGONS!" screamed Nova, fretting over the idea of going to what sounded like their old home, startling everybody around her and the adult dragons.
"You can't expect us to return to that accursed death trap, Sarah. The Isle of Berk is bad news to us dragons and it's filled with Vikings that want nothing to do than to exterminate us simply because we could potentially pose a threat to them," argued Rubble.
"Exterminate?!" gasped Sarah in shock.
"We dragons have been at odds with humanity and at war with those Vikings for years where we originally came from," Ruby explained.
"Each one of our species has been subjected to all sorts of horrible things they've done to us and they take great pleasure in doing those things since they want nothing more than to rid our old world of us so that they can live in peace as they please," added Lilac.
"Was it really that bad for you in your old world and this Berk place?" questioned Star, concerned for the adult dragons and how they're reacting.
"I still have nightmares about what those miserable creatures have done to us dragons," said Shadow, gritting his teeth. "Pawning us off, executing us, using us for their own amusement..."
"That is, unfortunately, a small but true sampling of what has plagued the island and humanity living on that tiny speck of land for years, generations even," nodded Tapu Koko grimly before he gave a solemn sigh. "The truth is, Princess... Berk is stuck in the grips of a deep, bloody, and bitter war against dragon-kind."
"War?!"
"Against dragons?"
"Are you serious?!"
"You're kidding!"
"That's impossible! There's no way dragons can be a threat to mankind there unless those humans did something to provoke them or make themselves a threat!" gawked Scorch, Kion, Haxorus, Sylveon, and Glaceon.
"Tapu Koko, this is an absolute travesty! Are humans there really that dense to the true nature of dragons and that they're not that different from them?" questioned Cresselia, shocked from what she had heard.
"I wish it were the case but alas, all the island and its world's inhabitants including its dragons such as Shadow, Winter, and their friends and each of their families know is war. Berk lives, breathes, and takes in war as part of its culture and it has a sad and tragic picture of dragons being monsters and just that. There is not much Pokemon like myself and my fellow Tapus can do since there are no virtually Pokemon living there, which is a scary thing in itself, but I have high hopes that you all and the princess can shine a ray of hope for both sides in a way."
"And, you think we can do something to end the war between humanity on Berk and the dragons?" asked Sarah to the Land Spirit Guardian.
"Indeed. Unlike the humans of Berk, you, of all people, are the only person that I know who has an unbreakable bond between your dragon and got to see and know them for who and what they really are. I was hoping that if you and your family were to travel to the island and show everybody there that the dragons are not what they think they are. Hopefully, if you're able to convince them, I'm certain you'll bring the war there to an end."
Seeing that they're needed again to help people, especially the dragons of Berk, in need, Sarah's entire Pokemon half family didn't hesitate to agree including a reluctant Eterantus agreeing to join the fray. Sarah nodded, knowing that this would be her chance to see her dragons' homeworld while understanding that things would be completely different for them once they set foot in her dragons' old home.
Glastrier and Spectrier, in particular, are eager to go with their family since they're getting a change of scenery and the chance to explore yet another world to see what else they and their father never got to see after all their time in the Crown Tundra.
"Sweet, we'll technically be going on vacation! Let me at those Vikings, they won't know what hit 'em!" neighed Glastrier, eager for a battle with a Viking and to win against such a warrior.
"Better save some for me, Glass. I'm itching for a good knocking to give those knuckleheads if only to make a stand for the dragons, right, Father?" asked Spectrier, wanting to help end the war and give the Vikings a beating for their senseless war against the dragons.
"Normally, I'd be appalled by your eagerness to fight, boys. But, given the dire circumstances and what's at stake for humanity on this Isle of Berk we're going to and the dragons, I get your point," nodded Calyrex despite his own reservations on the subject of going to war.
"Well, that settles it. We'll start packing and we'll be-" began Sarah before the dragons blurted out "NO!/WHAT?!".
"Are you nuts?!"
"Are you crazy, Sarah?!"
"You're out of your mind!"
"I totally think you've lost your marbles this time."
"I take back everything I said about you being a genius on stuff like this, Sarah," Spark, Inferno, Starfire, Camo, and Echo.
"...Winter, guys, are you okay?" asked Sarah, now looking worried for her dragons.
"Sarah, our world's war between humans and dragons went on for years, you're not-" begged Hydro.
"Are you seriously thinking about going to Berk and taking us with you, straight back to our old home?" interrupted Rosethorn, not looking forward to returning to Berk, at all.
"I'm not going!" added Phoenix adamantly.
"Me, neither!" Sunflare agreed, glaring at Sarah before looking at Tapu Koko. "Count us out 'cause we're not going back!"
"But, we're supposed to help stop the war between your species and humanity from Berk!" argued Sarah, still concerned but still wanting to do the right thing. "We can't just leave them all alone to decimate each other and die out after the war dies down! What if more people and dragons die because of it?"
"We're staying right here!" Twilight spat, her mind made up.
"Sarah, you can't be serious. You know what's out there and you know what'll happen if we get involved in this war again, do you?" questioned Shadow, still adamantly against going back to Berk.
"Yes, I know. There's death and destruction inevitable in the wake of war but that's more of a reason for us to get to Berk and stop the war," nodded Sarah, her resolve to help her dragons make peace with their old homeworld and its inhabitants starting to show. "And, we have to make humanity and the dragons see that fighting and senseless grudges against a species for the actions of a misguided few never solve anything nor will anything good come out of it."
"And, what's your point?" Hurricane questioned, raising a skeptical eyebrow.
"We can't just stand here and do nothing while they wipe themselves out of existence. Neither your fellow dragons nor these humans from Berk know what they're doing since they're reacting out of anger and fear for the other side of the war. And, if you have any of your own grudges against Berk and its human inhabitants, I think it's time for you to make peace with them in any way, shape, or form if you're ever gonna rest easy again. AND, you'll have to tell me how you came to live in my world, every detail counts."
"...I know that resolve of yours is too strong to break when you look like that," sighed Winter after a moment, the dragons (sans their confused children as they watched the exchange) all realizing that it would be pointless to argue any further as they sighed in defeat. "You're not gonna change your mind no matter how much we beg you to or how much we don't want to return, aren't you?"
"You know me better than that, all of you. Whatever's bugging you about Berk and what made you so dead set about going back there since Tapu Koko told us earlier when he got here needs to be dealt with, like, now. I'm worried about you and I don't want you to get into any trouble if you really hate your old homeworld and the humans living in it so much and taking whatever anger and contempt you have out on them. I love you too much to let you go on this..."
The dragons looked at each other and back to Sarah, realizing that she may have a point despite their own feelings on the subject of Berk and humanity from their homeworld. This wasn't something they'll be looking forward to and their origins and how they came to be in the World of Pokemon in the first place is something they've never told their rider since it never crossed their minds. But, they knew it was bound to happen eventually and if their past was as bloody and deadly as it could be implied, they knew it would come back to haunt them despite vowing to never return and what it had entailed for them.
They all nodded in agreement to go to Berk and put an end to the war if only to get it over and done with and return to their real homeworld as quickly as possible despite their fears, reservations, anger, outrage, and clear discomfort over going back to Berk and their old homeworld.
"No! No way, not happening!" argued Hydro, still adamant against going back to Berk so to end the war between humans and dragons. "There's no way, in the name of Thor, I am ever going near that hellhole again!"
Unfortunately, like her fellow dragons, Hydro was outmatched against Sarah and her Pokemon (the latter half of her family also growing increasingly worried for the dragons after they adamantly showed their hatred, contempt, and discomfort over their original homeworld) as they were all in agreement to head to Berk and end the war going on there. They met up with Tsukumaro on the matter and told him everything that had transpired since they knew he could be of valuable assistance and he had the most experience with dragons prior to his reunion with his goddaughter.
"I see, Princess," he replied grimly, looking sympathetically to her dragons as they squirmed behind them. "You're planning to go to this Isle of Berk Tapu Koko alluded to you about earlier and the dragons aren't eager to return as you've hoped they would in order to stop the war going on there?"
"Yeah. But, what's crazy is that they're deadset against going back there until I managed to get them to convince them to think about others living through the war and getting caught in the middle of it," she replied, still worried for them. "I've never seen them so contempt and harsh about their old world, why would they want to live out their lives here in our world and not want anything to do with this Berk place? What's so bad about it and the rest of their old home?"
"If anything, just the mention of this Berk place and Tapu Koko telling us all we're the only ones to stop it just made them go agro and lash out at us for even considering it," added Mulan.
"What's gotten them so riled up about this Berk character?" questioned Talonflame.
"And, why would they go out of their way to not come along to help?" questioned Simba.
"I've never seen the poor dears so nervous," added Sarafina.
"Nervous, they looked pretty mad and antsy after Tapu Koko told us about the place," argued Kommo-o.
"You think they ran into some trouble before you all first met them, Sarah?" asked Zarude curiously.
"Not that I know of. They didn't even tell me anything about that and when I tried to ask where they originally came from, they told me it's their island abode we visited during last Christmas and that was that."
Tsukumaro was gravely quiet as he listened and with a heavy sigh, he finally spoke, "I never thought it would come to this but I suppose it's time for you to know why the dragons were so adamant against returning to Berk. Princess, do you know why your dragons have long held a grudge against Berk and made no effort to returning there?"
Sarah shook her head, not having any idea as she had told Zarude minutes or seconds prior but she was eager to know what the dragons were talking about even if she got the basic gist of it and their reactions.
"Tapu Koko did say that a war had been going on there for years but he didn't say how many ears the war between mankind and dragons had been going on. The war between both species, especially on the Isle of Berk, is actually 300 years old in the making and it doesn't look like it'll stop anytime soon unless you're all there to stop it from getting worse."
"300 years?!" gasped Sarah in horrified shock.
"300 years of pain, torture, suffering, misery, and dying by the hands of these humans who called themselves Dragon Slayers and Vikings, all of it too much for any species of dragons, including yours, to bear. I'd imagine your dragons having gone through that kind of pain in their own right, uncontrollable right to them, really, and finally having enough to decide to abandon their old world and make their new home in ours. Whatever stories they have told and confided in me whenever I would check on them while you were off on your own, I promised not to reveal given how grizzly they were and how callous and merciless these Vikings are to them."
"And, with the war getting worse on both sides, were they forced to do terrible things just to survive?" quizzed Sarah to which Tsukumaro once again nodded grimly.
"Thousands of dragons and hundreds of human lives were lost in the bloodshed that got completely out of hand and unfortunately, your dragons were amongst those that were caught in the middle of it. They were forced to steal food from human villages and cause destruction just to sustain and protect themselves, creating massive conflicts in the process, some of which are fatal to both humans and their own kind. Camo nearly lost his life because of all the death and destruction being wrought upon their world when some Vikings found him and nearly killed him, forcing his friends to come to his rescue. And, as a result, they never trusted humans again, let alone Vikings after the incident.
"Is that why they somehow ended up here?" asked Zorua, a sad frown on her face regarding the dragons' fate. "To get away from the crazy dragon-killing freaks and the deaths of their own kind just to find a home to live in and survive?"
"Of course, Zorua. After they crossed over into our world, very badly wounded and still untrustworthy of humans, I happened to be the only human they came across while I was wandering the globe looking for my goddaughter. Admittingly, it wasn't easy getting them to trust me after the pain they've suffered from and the fact they didn't want to associate themselves with me but eventually, I've managed to show them that the humans in this world know nothing about them and I wasn't like those pitiful ruffians who'd kill their kind for sport, unjustified survival, or entertainment. Winter and the other dragons still hold a grudge against their homeworld to this day and after meeting the princess, Winter first and then the other dragons during the Pheromosa incident, they told me that they vowed to never return to Berk again, finding no reason to trust or coincide with the Vikings of Berk."
"Oh... I, I had no idea," gasped Sarah in utter horror, now fully seeing why her dragons were so adamant about not returning to Berk given their previous reactions.
"Did they ever tell you why the dragons did what they did, Tsukumaro?" questioned Virizion, she and her fellow Swords now sympathetic for the dragons.
"No, they never did," the old advisor replied. "Even now, they're still tight-lipped about it but that's understandable given how cautious they were on the subject."
"You know, maybe it actually involves something that wasn't really or entirely their fault," theorized Keldeo.
"You're right, Keldeo. Perhaps, if we were to go to this Berk place, we might find out what caused the war to initiate and figure out how to stop both humans and dragons there from continuing the needless bloodshed bathing their homeworld," agreed Totem Luxray, finding that to be a probable train of thought.
"It could also be something the humans there had a huge part in playing at, something that caused them to develop a grudge against the dragons in the first place," added Sonic thoughtfully as she paced the room.
"Indeed, the humans must've had some sort of scheme or pulled something that caused the animosity between them," buzzed Nitro in agreement.
"But, what if any wild dragons there know why the war started and what part they played in doing it?" inquired Mai.
"That's another part of the mystery we'll have to solve when we get there," replied Solar. "The answers are obviously not in this world and I have a hunch that whatever answers we'll find regarding the Dragon-Viking Wars will obviously be in Berk and we gotta find out what, and fast!"
"But, we'll all just end up back in square one after we've come so far to put the past behind us," interjected Shadow, coming forward. "We'll be putting all of you in danger, the kids, especially."
"Sarah, you can't possibly expect this war of ours to be solved with song and dance numbers," warned Winter. "What we've been through is the real deal and if any of our kids were killed after coming back or you get yourselves killed, we'll never forgive ourselves."
Sarah sighed as she came in front of her nervous dragons before kneeling down before Shadow and Winter, rubbing their heads and knowing how hard it must be for the dragons to deal with. "I know that but that's all the more a reason we're going to protect you when you go to your old homeworld. Nothing's going to happen to you or the children once we've arrived in Berk," she continued gently but firmly in a rider or mother's sense.
"Listen, I may not know about your previous lives and what you had to go through before meeting my Pokemon and I or the Vikings and what they did to you but I would risk my own life to protect you because your lives are no different from mine or anybody else's here. We're a family, a team, we look out for each other; you've proven yourselves to be family ever since you first came into our lives, my life. That's never changed and it's not going to change now. You never gave up on us, not even me, when dealing with our own pasts and that includes Eternatus given what we had to go through with him."
"Our situation is different, Sarah," began Shadow before she gently cuts him off.
"But, it doesn't have to be. I know it'll be hard for you all but the difference is, you won't be alone; you'll have me, Nebby, Nebula, and the rest of our family joining you guys. Besides, if we don't do something to stop them and get humanity and the dragons to see past their grudges and trust each other again, it's only a matter of time before they tear each other apart to the last man and dragon standing. Living with hatred and contempt for Berk and humanity living there forever isn't what I want from you..."
She then smiled and reassured her dragons on what'll happen, saying, "I believe you can come to terms with the war and both sides still playing into it and come to a decision on how to stop it, bringing everybody together to end the pain and the bloodshed with all of us by your side. But, someone has to take the first step... Trust me."
The dragons, particularly Shadow and Winter, were all left wondering what to do after that. As much as they don't want to admit it given all of the pain they've suffered before coming to the World of Pokemon, they knew their rider had a point. Things are much different ever since they met Sarah and her family and in increments with how they revealed themselves to her and ever since they were accepted as part of her family, they've been happier; no longer were they living in constant fear and panic knowing that they'll survive one day or potentially die tomorrow if they don't keep their eyes peeled for any danger. Instead, they were able to grow stronger and live their lives in peace; granted, they had been doing so in their old island home but they've had it much better after meeting the princess and living with her and her Pokemon.
But, after Tapu Koko mentioned that they're needed to end the war still going on in Berk and knowing what it meant for them, they flat out refused to have anything to do with their old home, even willing to risk leaving it to ruin and death despite knowing what it meant for their species of fellow dragons. They suffered so much under the cruel hands of humanity and they wanted nothing to do with Berk and its Vikings anymore when it was just them alone and before their kids came into their lives.
However, they also knew that while they'll still hate going back, once they do, they'll still have their family to look after them and help them learn to trust again. They saw the Vikings and Dragon Slayers in their former homeworld as monsters and nothing more but they would've said the same for Sarah had things between them and her turned out differently. They have something worth fighting for and protecting to make their return more bearable.
They also came to realize that just by refusing to go back and confront their sworn enemies head on, they're just running away from their problems with the Vikings instead of tackling them head on.
Eventually, after much thought and knowing that they can't rest in peace until the war in Berk is dissolved and humanity and dragon-kind are at peace with one another, the dragons agreed, all of them silently nodding albeit reluctantly and placing their trust in her to do what she feels is right. That was all Sarah needed to know as she nodded back and rubbed Shadow's head reassuringly before she hugged him and the other dragons joined in for a group nuzzle while everybody else watched on proudly.
The preparations for the trip to Berk began in earnest the following two days with Sarah requesting to Tapu Koko that they take the time needed to get ready and prepare for their stay in the dragons' former homeworld for however long it'll be until the war was finally quelled, to which he agreed to await them after she and her family agreed to go, at last.
Tsukumaro also decided to join his goddaughter, knowing that he's also had profound experience with the dragons and he didn't want Sarah to subject herself to the horrors that Berk had to offer if everything the dragons told them was as bad as they said it would be. Admittedly, it also allowed him to spend more quality time with her together which he was pretty much grateful to have in his mind.
Nikki and James had to be told that they're leaving and what they're going to do before they left. They were still worried for her safety but after recalling everything she went through in Dia's world and how she helped him and his Zeraora end Guzzlord's tyranny there, they allowed her to go to Berk on the condition that she'll keep herself out of trouble and to listen to her godfather always, to which she agreed.
Even her friends, Lusamine, Wicke, Burnet, Kukui, and Faba were all told about what she was about to endure and they had smilar responses and the Beast Morphers Rangers and their allies at Grid Battleforce were no exception when the news was passed down to them.
Since the arrival of Hurricane, Voltage, Rocky, Boulder, and Hydro, Nate and Megan had crafted and tested five new suits of Beast-X Dragon Armor for the five aforementioned dragons (compacted in three new collars for Voltage, Hydro, and Hurricane and two new bracelets for Rocky and Boulder) and Wicke and Faba along with their scientists have reinforced them and the original Dragon Armor belonging to the other dragons (now powered-up with Gronckle Iron, making the dragons' suits lighter but much stronger).
Based on and with the inclusion of his DNA, Hurricane was amazed to see that his dark blue and black armor along with Voltage's purple and black armor were able to conduct electricity from underwater. This effectively countered his natural weakness to water, which he was initially surprised about but very relieved and glad for.
With Hydro and her light blue and white armor, her suit made him much more maneuverable in the water in a similar way to Milotic and how she was able to swim.
And, finally, for an ecstatic Rocky and Boulder, their tan and white suits improved their aerodynamics which is great for increasing their speed as their species weren't really the fastest fliers in the skies compared to the other dragons (which also means they can keep up with their fellow dragons, now, instead of lagging behind).
On the following Tuesday, after much preparation during the previous Sunday and Monday, Sarah and her family were ready to make their way to Berk. Taking the time to check her satchel and what she had packed one more time, she found everything set inside and ready for her to use:
- Her Pokeballs, her Z-Crystal and Pokemon Gem case, and Silvally's Memory Drives, whatever healing supplies she has on hand, her Panthera Morpher and her Panthera/Dragon Chargers, her Dragon Morpher and Key, and so on.
Tsukumaro also had the sense to bring their enchanted tent along with a host of other essential camping supplies tucked away in his own backpack.
Finally, the following Tuesday came and it was time for Sarah and Tsukumaro along with her family to make their way to Berk. Tapu Koko waited for them outside the castle as they approached with all of the princess' friends in Alola, Nikki, and James, and their own Pokemon standing by to say their goodbyes until their return. With their supplies at hand along with some essentials that the dragons decided to take with them for personal comfort, and her parents' heirlooms (both of which had also been reinforced with Gronckle Iron by the old advisor prior) safely latched behind her back, Sarah approached the Land Spirit Pokemon.
For her and her family, this was it; it was time to make their way to her dragons' former homeworld and find out what was behind the ongoing Berk Dragon Wars.
"I trust you're finally ready to go, Princess?" Tapu Koko asked, patiently waiting for her answer.
"Yeah. We've talked about it but we're ready to go," she nodded.
"Good. Normally, I'd allow you more time to think through it but since you're determined and you're all in agreement, we shall start immediately."
"WAIT!" shrieked a familiar buzzing voice.
And then, from out of the crowd and coming up from behind everybody else, who should come to Sarah and her family but Rotom-Dex. She was honestly surprised that he would even think about joining them for their mission to end the Berk Dragon Wars.
"Rotom! What are you doing?" she asked.
"Oh, don't tell me we'll have to babysit that floating walkman while we're in the land of dragons," groaned Silvally, not liking where this is going.
"You got any better ideas for this guy?" replied Wildfire to the Synthetic Pokemon.
"Why are you coming with us, anyway?" questioned Dart.
"You know me better than to let something as important as gathering more data on dragons from this Berk place slip!" replied the living Pokedex. "As your Pokedex, it's my job to oversee you all and gather more data that can prove useful for all!"
"Are you sure you can handle what we're up against while you're at it?"
"I don't know, do you think it's a good idea to get more data on us dragons and our homeworld?" replied Rosa and Rubble, both raising skeptical eyebrows at the living Pokedex.
Rotom-Dex just looked at them incredulously, "Why not? I've faced much worse than everything Lothor and his cronies can dish out, too, you know! Anyway, if Sarah and Tsukumaro are going to know their way around Berk once we get there, you'll need me to be your all-around electronic encyclopedia to help guide them. And, if there is any more valuable data on more dragons besides you guys, what's the harm in learning more about them if any more somehow made their way here to get away from the Berk Dragon Wars?"
"That's true," said Ruffrunner, nodding in agreement.
"Yeah, I can't wait to see if there are any more dragons there like us!" agreed Pouncer.
"If it's as bad as our parents say it is, we better not get too comfortable," reminded Skylar.
"But, it would be great for you to know that there are still other dragons out there besides us. Let alone those that actually survived," added Crescent.
"I don't know," Sarah said, not sure if he should join them.
"Just think about it, Sarah. Maybe Rotom's right, what if there are other dragons in this world that only came here to escape from the bloodshed and the Vikings of Berk?" questioned Lilac thoughtfully.
"He does have a point. At least, you'll be able to do your homework on what other dragons you'll be able to see besides us," agreed Sunset.
"They're not wrong," concurred Reignstorm.
"...All right, you can come along. But, remember, if it gets too bloody for our liking, stay with the others and that's that, 'kay? You know how Ash can be if he saw you with a scratch or a burn mark and I don't want him screaming in my face about that," sighed Sarah as she relented to Rotom Dex's request.
"Scout's honor!" he said with a salute.
"Are you ready, then?" Tapu Koko called again, feeling like Sarah and her family are now ready.
"Go ahead," nodded Sarah again finally.
"See ya soon!"
"Don't let the hatchlings bite!"
"See ya, Sarah!"
"Goodbye, Tsukumaro!"
"Take care of yourselves!"
"Call us if you need help!"
"Have a safe journey!"
"Stay strong!"
"Be careful!" called the Pokemon School gang, Burnet, Hala, and Kukui.
"Mind where you go when you get there!"
"Don't get into any trouble, ya hear?"
"Good luck, Sarah, and may the power protect you!" shouted Wicke, Faba, and Lusamine, everybody waving goodbye to their wandering travelers.
"Come back to us safely, honey!"
"Remember, Ponchita! We'll be waiting for you when you come back!" finished Nikki and James, the Pokemon with them all also bidding their goodbyes.
"We promise!"
"Don't worry, friends! Take care of yourselves!" replied Sarah and Tsukumaro, the two of them returning their Pokemon to their Pokeballs sans Nebby, Nebula, and Eternatus.
Once they were all set and the dragons ready to fly and with Rotom-Dex staying close by so none of them wouldn't get separated, Sarah boarded Nebby while Tsukumaro decided to ride on Solar (the Beast Bot already in his Hovercycle Mode).
"Okay, I just wanna say one last time," noted Hydro before they start to depart. "This is a really bad idea."
"We all knew this was coming," Hurricane told her.
"I don't blame you if any or all of you want to back out now," reassured Solar. "We better get this over with for your sakes. Okay, Sarah, let's go."
"Right. Away!" shouted Sarah as her dragons, Nebby, Nebula, Eternatus, and Solar took flight.
With the dragons leading the way and her Ultra Beasts, Solar, and Eternatus following close behind, Sarah (with Rotom-Dex alongside her) was on her way to Berk with Tsukumaro, unaware that their latest adventure would bring them face to face with the uglier side of war with its devastating costs and some new friends to help them along the way.
On the small Viking island, the Isle of Berk, we find said island covered in a fog as it revealed itself to be as it is - a Viking village inhabited by said people who are known to be some of the fiercest warriors to ever roam the planet. Everywhere one would look, they would see them training and living their lives as Vikings would normally do but in their case, while they were indeed living their Viking lives, nobody could imagine what they would've faced to make them as they are.
"This is Berk, it's twelve days north of Hopeless and a few degrees south of Freezing to Death. It's located solidly on the Meridian of Misery, my village. In a word, sturdy, and it's been here for seven generations but, every single building is new. We have fishing, hunting, and a charming view of the sunsets. The only problems we have are the pests. You see, most places have mice or mosquitoes. We, on the other hand, have..."
In the midst of the new narrator's explanation, a random dragon shot its fiery breath as a young boy slammed the door shut, cowering behind it in fear. The boy was a male in his mid-teens, a scrawny-looking fella with only a brown jacket on top of a green shirt and brown boots. This boy was the farthest from a fearsome Viking of any description or imagination and an underdog of the lot, his name: Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III.
"-dragons..."
"Most people would leave, not us. We're Vikings, we have...Stubbornous issues."
As he continued his narration, Hiccup then ran outdoors as the houses were on fire and the Vikings around him tussled about with dragons all around, suggesting that the war between dragons and humanity is still going on after 300 years.
"My name's Hiccup. Great name, I know, but it's not the worst. Parents here believe a hideous name would frighten off gnomes and trolls. Heh, like our charming Viking demeanor would do that."
Still running, he managed to dodge several other of his fellow Vikings but a nearby explosion from the blast of a teal Gronckle caused him to trip, a male Viking soon roaring in his face. The Viking continued to roar as several others, surprised and shocked by his being with them and wondering why he was outside or demanding he'd get back inside a house for his own safety until he was picked up by his father, the leader of Berk's Vikings - Stoick the Vast.
"Hiccup, what is he doing out agi-UGH!" he groaned as he got his son to safety. "What are you doing out, get inside!"
Once he got Hiccup out of the way, Stoick entered the fray as he threw a wooden cart at a dragon, knocking it out in mid-air and motivating his fellow Vikings to continue on fighting.
"That's Stoick the Vast - Chief of the tribe and my father. They saw that when he was a baby, he popped a dragon's head clean off its shoulders. Do I believe it? Yes, I do."
"What have we got?" asked the chief, turning to a Viking named Starkard.
"Gronckles, Nadders, Zipplebacks coming in fast, from what I can tell. Oh, and Hoark just saw a Monstrous Nightmare touching down before they went after it."
"Any Night Furies."
"None so far, we're in the clear."
"Good," Stoick nodded, liking the results.
"Hoist the torches!" shouted another Viking from within the battle.
The battle raged on as two enormous torches were immediately raised and lit, causing the wild dragons to swarm around them so as to try and deal with their new weapons. Hiccup, in the meantime, ran into a blacksmith's shop before he puts on a nearby apron before his mentor, a third Viking named Gobber, appeared and chuckled at him.
"Ah, well! Nice of you to join the party, Hiccup! I thought you've been carried off!" he quipped.
"What? Who, me? Nah, come on! I'm way too muscular for their tastes!" Hiccup replied, referring to his body shape. "They wouldn't know what to do with all...This."
"Well, they need toothpicks, don't they?"
"The meathead there with the attitude and interchangeable hands is named Gobber. I've been his Viking apprentice ever since I was little, well, littler... If you catch my drift."
The battle continued to rage between the dragons and the Vikings while Stoick headed over to the watchtower to continue overseeing the fight. He could see that neither force was gaining quarter nor gaining advantage as humans and dragons continued to duke at each other, some from both sides losing their lives after getting several good hits in towards their sworn foes.
"We move to the lower defenses, we'll counterattack with the catapults!" he called before a dragon swooped down and set another house on fire, prompting him to give a pep-talk to the Vikings below. "Moment of truth, people! It's on us, either we secure our home as Berk's stronghold against these vicious beings or we die!"
"See that? Old village yet lots and lots of new houses," Hiccup continued.
In the midst of the ongoing battle down below and as several more houses burned, several other teens around, below, or above Hiccup's age came in carrying buckets as a fire brigade. They all fought against the fires that threatened to spread and engulf their village before the dragons could set another house ablaze while their Viking friends and families continued their struggle against the dragons.
"Oh, those guys there? That's Fishlegs, Snotlout, the Twins - Ruffnut and Tuffnut, and...Astrid. Oh, their job is so much cooler."
Everybody did their part in the continuing and heated battle but Hiccup, who's the only one not taking part, tried to get a better look through one of the shop windows before he was pulled back by Gobber as he lifted him up.
"Oh, come on! Please let me out, Gobber, I need to earn my Viking mark!" he whined.
"You've made plenty of marks, all in the wrong places!" argued Gobber.
"Please, just two minutes, Gob! I'll kill a dragon, my life will definitely get better! I might even get a date!"
"You can't lift a hammer, you can't swing an ax, you can't even throw one of these!" continued Gobber incredulously.
To demonstrate his point, he lifted up a nearby bola before a Viking grabbed it and then used it to bring another dragon down. Still, Hiccup wanted to prove himself despite Gobber's protests, aggravations, and hidden concern. Being the underdog of his Viking home, he was seen as nothing less than pitiful and worthless as a Viking and he would be demeaned or picked on for his lack of potential, especially by his own father since he's the most vulnerable. Even so, he wanted nothing more than to prove himself to everyone, Gobber, and his father, and earn their respect and approval despite his numerous shortcomings which often got him into trouble he might've otherwise avoided.
"Okay, fine. But, this will throw it for me," he retorted as he patted a wooden machine, which threw a bola but ended up hitting a Viking causing Gobber to facepalm in exasperation and annoyance.
"See, Hiccup? Now, this right here is what I'm talking about!" he groaned.
"Mild calibration issue-"
"Don't! No, Hiccup, if you ever want to get out there and help us fight dragons, you need to stop all...This."
"But, you just pointed it all to me!"
"Yes, that's the problem! Stop being all you and man up, be a true Viking instead of a being less than what he's worth!"
"Oh..."
"'Oh', is right."
"You, sir, are playing a dangerous game. Keeping this much, raw...Viking-ness, contained? There will be consequences!"
"I'll take my chances. Sword, sharpen, now," finished Gobber finally, Hiccup reluctantly sharpening a sword and handing it to him before his teacher went back into the fray, leaving him to sigh.
"One day, I'll get out there because killing a dragon is everything around here. Deadly Naddlers are known for attacking sheep, Gronckles steel racks of fish, and Zipplebacks ignite houses and blows them up. A Naddler head is sure to get me noticed at least. Gronckles are tough, taking down one of those would definitely get me a girlfriend. A Zippleback - Exotic, two heads, twice the status."
As he continued to look around the battlefield from his spot in the blacksmith's shop after giving Gobber his sword, he could see some white Deadly Nadders finding the sheep herd, proceeding to attack them which caught Stoick's attention.
"Targets approaching the sheep herd! Concentrate all fire over the lower bank!" he ordered, the catapults being fired at his command.
"And then, there's the Monstrous Nightmare - only the best Vikings would dare go after those. They have a nasty habit of setting themselves on fire."
A red male Monstrous Nightmare then appears as it sets itself on fire and climbs up onto one of the catapult stations. "Reload! I'll take care of this," Stoick called while he approaches the dragon and fought it with all his might before he hits it in the face and made it fly off.
"But, the ultimate prize for us Vikings is the dragon nobody's ever seen before. We call it, the..."
"NIGHT FURY! Everybody, duck!" screamed another Viking as a powerful plasma blast struck the catapult and destroyed it, forcing the Vikings manning it to take cover as it exploded from the blast and another soon followed.
"This thing never steals food, never shows itself, and...Never misses its targets."
"JUMP!" boomed Stoick, forcing everybody with him to leap off and abandon the catapult station.
"No one's ever killed a Night Fury in our people's history. That's why I'm going to be the first."
"Man the fort, Hiccup. I'm going back, they need me out there!" reported Gobber, reaching for his ax and attaching it to a prosthetic arm before turning to him.
"But, I want to-!"
"You, Stay, Here. You'll be safer here than out there, you know what I mean."
With that, Gobber left to rejoin his friends and fellow Vikings as more plasma blasts from the hidden perpetrator of a dragon were fired, continuing its relentless assault. Hiccup sighed again; he really wanted to prove himself to everyone including his mentor and Stoick and no matter how many times he was going to get in trouble to do so, he won't stop until he shows everyone that he can be a true Viking. So, deciding to go against Gobber's orders, he took the bola catapult he invented with him and ran back into the fight.
As he rejoined the battle, he caught the attention of his fellow underdog and childhood friend helping as she fought against a dragon with her weapon of choice to protect any surviving livestock nearby - two tough wooden battle sticks which used to belong to her brother Elias Fiersome who died 2 years ago, Zenna Fiersome, as she sighed and she quickly joined him.
"Oh, Hiccup, here we go again," she chuckled with a cheeky smile as she ran after him.
Other Vikings who noticed Hiccup running into the thick of the battle called for him to stop but he brushed their protests and cries off. "Yeah, I know! I'll be right back! Don't worry, I can help!" he told them before he loaded his catapult onto a cart and pushed it.
Of course, since he isn't very strong, he had trouble pushing it until he felt it being easier before he found Zenna helping to push with her strength.
"Need a hand?" she smirked.
"You know it!" Hiccup smirked back as they got the cart in place.
Unknowing what Zenna and Hiccup were doing, Stoick managed to capture several of the invading Deadly Nadders in a net and tries to wrestle them into submission to make them give up. One of them tried to blast him with fire but he was relentless as he continued.
"Mind yourselves! The devils still have some juice left in them!" he warned, continuing to wrestle with the Nadders as they continued their tussle.
"Are you sure this thing will work this time, Hic?" questioned Zenna, skeptical as to if he had tested his catapult prior.
"Minor issues but I'm sure it's working now! I may have conked out a fellow Viking but it won't be too much of a problem!"
"I hope you're right!"
Zenna is, as mentioned before, Hiccup's fellow underdog and his childhood friend. She was also considered the runt of the little despite her exceptional strength since she doesn't exemplify all of the traits that make a true Viking and given her close friendship with Hiccup, Zenna was always the one to get him out of trouble as his crazy antics are stuff that she finds funny and capable of making her boring life fun, even if they'll annoy her at times. The Viking girl was a good Viking in her own right but she tends to be reckless like Hiccup and overstep her boundaries whenever she feels like there is something their superiors (including Stoick and her parents, Edgar and Henna Fiersome) and their peers are missing the big picture on or otherwise.
"Come on, give us something to shoot at! Give us something to shoot at!" Hiccup prayed, looking for a target.
"Hiccup, heads up!" cried Zenna, finding what looked to be a shadow from above.
Seeing the shadow blotting out the stars from the nighttime sky (during which the dragons picked a considerable time to get the jump on the humans and get what they came to Berk for), it fires at a nearby lower watch tower and it exploded, revealing the shape of a dragon. Finally, Hiccup took the shot as he and Zenna were sent flying back despite the latter being able to steady it as best she can, a loud cry was heard as they saw the shadow plummeting into the forest near their home.
"No way..." gasped Zenna in surprise.
Hiccup, however, was ecstatic with the results, "Oh... I hit it, YES! YES, I HIT IT, I TOTALLY HIT IT! Did anybody else see that?"
Their joy and surprise were short-lived as a Monstrous Nightmare appeared and crushed his bola launcher.
"Except for you..." he whimpered.
"Come on, Bola Boy!" grunted Zenna, quickly grabbing and dragging him back as they made a break for the blacksmith's shop.
Stoick managed to keep the Deadly Nadders he and his fellow Vikings held captive but a shrill cry catches his attention, looking shocked to see the Monstrous Nightmare chasing Hiccup and Zenna as the latter did her best to keep the dragon off of them, forcing him to leave the Deadly Nadders to help them.
"DO NOT, let them escape!" he warned as he left.
"Right!" called his Viking brother, Spitelout, being left with their troops to keep them busy.
Stoick quickly hurried to make his way to Hiccup and Zenna as the two tripped and she brought her weapon back out from her sword belt so as to make a potential last stand against the Monstrous Nightmare. But, before either one of the three could make a move, everyone suddenly saw a large sphere of cosmic energy striking the large dragon and knocking it to the ground before a giant white lion landed near the Viking underdogs. The white lion turned out to be Nebby himself but his presence completely shocked everyone (Stoick and Hiccup and Zenna's peers the most shocked out of everyone), having not seen anything like him before.
"Odin's Beard! What's that?"
"Is that a giant cat?"
"Look at it, it's huge!"
"I've never seen anything like it!"
"Is it dangerous?"
"No! Did you see how it attacked that Monstrous Nightmare?"
"It's bound to be another threat..." the Vikings reacted, not knowing what to make of Nebby while Zenna and Hiccup are left in stunned silence as they couldn't take their eyes off of him.
(Ten Minutes Earlier)
On the way to Berk with her dragons continuing to lead the way, Eternatus was finding the journey and Sarah's need for her to come along with them tedious. During the two days of preparation, Sarah had to coax the Gigantic Pokemon into coming with her since she believed he'll be crucial to helping her end the Berk Dragon Wars.
"Grrrrr, I can't believe you had to drag me all the way out to some stupid island in the middle of nowhere just to end a war," he grumbled as they went through a fog bank covering the sea and stuck together. "Remind me again why you had me coming along in the first place, pipsqueak?"
"Because, Eternatus, since you know about Silvally and Tou-Tou when they came clean with you about their past and like the rest of us, you know nothing about Winter and my other dragons, I thought it'll be good for you to find out what exactly happened to them before you came in last year," chided Sarah.
"Why couldn't your lizards have been more upfront with us about where they came from, anyway? Would've saved us a lot of time and energy getting there and coming back, really."
"You know why; Winter and the other dragons are very tight-lipped as to their origins. They never indulge us on anything to go on regarding their pasts and whatever happened to them on Berk must've traumatized them enough pr more than enough to make them want to find a place to live in peace and come to our world. Plus, I want you to get to know them more since you found kindred spirits in them as well as Silvally and Tou-Tou. You guys can learn more from each other than even I could know."
Eternatus groaned as a tick mark showed itself and twitched on his forehead, showing his frustration and reluctance to help end the Berk Dragon Wars. Nobody was going to let him live it down no matter what. But, before they could continue their debate further, a loud series of explosions and a flash of orange, yellow, and red caught the princess' eye and his own, forcing them to look ahead as they saw the source of it.
"Princess, we've reached Berk, at last! But, there are several dragons on top of those Viking ruffians!" shouted Tsukumaro aboard Solar, pointing to the Isle of Berk as silhouettes of dragons are shown attacking it and its Viking inhabitants.
"There it is, the accursed Isle of Berk," snarled Shadow.
"I said it before and I'll say it again, this is a really bad idea," mumbled Hydro, already regretting coming back to Berk.
"I never thought we'd be back here or anywhere else next to it," sighed Starfire, sharing Hydro's reluctance. "That means we've returned to our old world."
"I'm already seeing and hearing why you hate it so much, Mom, Dad," cringed Skylar as she huddled close to her parents, hearing the sounds of the battle raging on the island already with her enhanced hearing from her blindness.
"This is what we hoped not to show nor subject you kids to in your lives, Skylar," said Silver with a sorrowful and uneasy sigh as she and the equally-uneasy Whiplash nuzzled their daughter.
"What'll we do now, Mama?" asked Nebula, wanting to know what's the next step for everybody to take.
"You got any ideas on how to deal with those freaks 'cause I'm not interested in becoming a target for their weapons," added Solar.
"Okay, here's what we're gonna do. Nebby, you, Tsukumaro, Solar, and I will join the fight and stop the humans and dragons from fighting," began Sarah before she then turned to Nebula, Eternatus, and her dragons. "Nebula, you lead the others and Eternatus into the clouds and make sure to find a place safe enough for us to hide out on the island until we're done, you got it?"
"Totally! See ya in a bit!" nodded the Moone Pokemon as she led the former Darkest Day and the dragons away and they began their search for an isolated spot.
With her dragon half of her family, her younger Ultra Beast, and Eternatus safe and sound, for now, with Nebby, her godfather, and Solar joining her, the quartet began making their way to Berk. But, everywhere they looked as they flew and ran in the air, their hearts tugged with sorrow and shock as they saw Deadly Nadders, Gronckles, Monstrous Nightmares, and Hideous Zipplebacks invading the village below, stealing the Vikings' livestock, burning houses down, and clashing with the Vikings.
"Holy hell...!" gasped Solar, he and his party looking around at the devastation before them.
"This is bad, Mama... Very, very bad!" whimpered Nebby, unable to take in more of the destruction from both parties and some of the dead bodies of Vikings and dragons littered around.
"This is terrible, absolutely barbaric!" gawked Tsukumaro in shock, unable to take in what was shown before his very eyes.
"We have to do something, guys! The Berk Dragon Wars are going to get even crazier if we don't stop this madness right now!" argued Sarah, feeling queasy as well but steeling herself for what was about to come for her and her family in the future.
Two yells from below soon caught their attention as they continued their run and flight, the four of them looking down to find Hiccup and Zenna running from a wild Monstrous Nightmare after it had destroyed Hiccup's bola catapult.
"Looks like they need our help!" Sarah noted before they flew down to give them a hand. "Nebby, Focus Blast!"
Without hesitation, Nebby fired his Focus Blast attack straight at the Monstrous Nightmare and forced it back, knocking it out cold as he got between it and the two Viking underdogs just as Tsukumaro and Solar came alongside him and the advisor and his goddaughter got off and met the still-stunned Hiccup and Zenna. The other Vikings were left in shock to see the new humans as they helped them up their feet, the wild dragons having been defeated and were captured or flying away in defeat after their victory.
"You two ok?" asked Sarah to the Vikings.
"Yeah, thanks for that," nodded Hiccup.
"Your big cat was amazing. Who are you, anyway?" quizzed Zenna, also feeling grateful.
"The name's Sarah, Sarah Tomoe. And, these three with me are Nebby, Solar, and my godfather, Tsukumaro Wong. We've been sent here by a friend of ours to give you and your fellow Vikings a hand," the princess continued, quickly thinking of an excuse to cover up their being here to end the Berk Dragon Wars.
"O-Okay, got it, Sarah. Nice to meet you, my name's Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III and this is my best friend, Zenna Fiersome," Hiccup continued, referring to himself and Zenna as the other Vikings gathered.
Sarah, Tsukumaro, Solar, Nebby (the giant Ultra Beast turning to the two) blinked, finding their surnames and Hiccup's middle name sounding ridiculous in their eyes and ears. None of them ever knew their own friends, not even Nikki and James or Doug and Delilah, having a nickname such as Horrendous.
"Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait! Hold up there, Hiccup, I'm sorry, what?" she spluttered in bewilderment and confusion. "Horrendous, your parents actually named you that aside from Haddock and your first name?"
"I know, great name, isn't it?" replied Hiccup with a sarcastic smile.
"Long story, his father picked that nickname for him. Our names were supposed to invoke terror in other creatures who could be weaker or stronger than us Vikings," added Zenna, stepping in for her best friend.
"They're right, you know," Stoick agreed as he, Gobber, Hiccup and Zenna's peers, and the latter's parents entered and made themselves known.
"Who are you?" Tsukumaro questioned.
"My name is Stoick the Vast and I'm the Viking Chief of the Isle of Berk. With me here are Hiccup and Zenna's peers, Hiccup's teacher and my good friend, Gobber, and Zenna's parents, Edgar and Henna Fiersome. Forgive us for being startled by your untimely and unannounced arrival and not taking you for saving these two rascals but we've never seen anything like you humans or your giant creature before, Lass."
"Sorry, Sir, but I'm actually a Pokemon or more appropriately, an Ultra Beast," replied Nebby, finally taking notice of the other Vikings, startling them as they jumped in surprise to hear him speaking through Telepathy. "My name's Nebby and Sarah Tomoe here is my Mama."
"Huh? Wait, who said that?" gasped Snotlout, looking around.
"Nebby did, it's his Telepathy," replied Sarah matter-of-factly.
"Mama's right, you can hear me through my thoughts and your minds," nodded Nebby, confirming his human mother's answer and making the Vikings stare at him in absolute shock as their jaws dropped.
"Whoa... You can speak through our minds?" gawked Tuffnut.
"Trippy and yet heavy..." an equally-stunned Ruffnut agreed.
Still unsure what to make of and skeptical about Sarah, Snotlout regained his composure and then proceeded to examine her and her clothing. "Hmm... Funny, you don't seem to dress like you're from here and your clothing is quirky and weird. What are you supposed to be, a princess or something?" he questioned before he began to laugh mockingly at her.
This taunting from him is something the little princess didn't take too lightly as she gave him a hard punch to the face, knocking him to the ground and further surprising and shocking the Vikings around them. Zenna and Hiccup, in particular, were amazed as their eyes were glued to Sarah after this before they saw the princess make her way to their rude peer.
"I don't take what I deem as a threat towards me and my family too lightly," she growled. "And, I'd appreciate it if you don't give me a reason why I shouldn't tear you apart for that."
"Pfft, what else can you do? You're not as strong and muscular as the rest of us!" smirked Tuffnut with a snigger, now expecting less from her. "I bet you're no better than Hiccup was during our Viking training!"
Sarah just smirked as she knew Tuffnut was already asking for trouble from her; so, taking out her Sun Sword from her sheath, she proceeded to demonstrate her swordsmanship that Tsukumaro had been training her in. She swung it with such grace and ease before she then jumped up and tossed it, throwing it at Ruffnut's twin which struck his helmet and it embedded itself on the ground near Snotlout's current position, making him give off a frightened girl's scream. The Vikings all gasped in complete shock and awe over her unparalleled swordsmanship.
"Does that answer your question?" she smirked at the shocked Vikings before she held out her hand and said "Accio" before her Sun Sword returned to her and she then sheathed it, further stunning the Vikings.
"How did you do that?" gasped an awestruck Astrid.
"It's magic and a magician never reveals her secrets," answered Sarah.
While the Vikings decided to leave it at that and save their questions for later, Stoick turned to his son and Zenna, furious that they would disobey orders from him and her parents for them to stay safe and not get into trouble. He was already having it rough being a single father and the leader of his people and he was already reaching the breaking point with his son and his best friend.
"Every time, EVERY SINGLE TIME, you bother to step outside, disaster always strikes!" he groaned in aggravation. "Why can't you, of all people, just follow the simplest of orders?!"
Hiccup did his best to explain as he said, "I-I can't help it! I saw a dragon coming after us and I wanted to kill it! And besides, Dad, Zenna and I, we actually shot down a dragon! It fell just past Raven Point! Maybe we can send a search party there and if it's there-!"
"Urgh, Hiccup! HICCUP! Enough, just stop... Listen, I've no time for this and you know that given what we're up against!" interrupted Stoick, seething at his son for what he believed to be his incompetence, making Sarah, Tsukumaro, and Zeena glare at him. "You were lucky Sarah was able to arrive and save you two before you ended up being that Monstrous Nightmare's dinner! Winter is almost here and I have an entire village to feed!"
But, Hiccup just shrugged sarcastically, "Well, for me, the village could use a little less feeding."
"This isn't a joke, Hiccup! This is serious!" groaned Stoick again as Solar hid his chuckle through a cough while a few Vikings put their hands to their stomachs, offended before he glared sharply at Zenna. "And, you! I thought I told you to keep an eye on him!"
Zenna just groaned as she facepalmed at him; she's always had to put up with Stoick's overprotective nature as well as that from her own parents given whatever caused them to baby them and force the two to be on the sidelines all the time and frankly, she was becoming sick of it. Because of how they were being babied and picked on by everybody else, she always has to step in and be the bigger girl, even if it meant getting into fights with everybody and making herself and Hiccup pariahs amongst everybody in Berk.
"We know that and I did keep a close eye on him the whole time! We've been working hard to prove to you, Mom, and Dad that we can take care of ourselves even after everything that's happened to us!" she argued defiantly. "And, he actually shot down a dragon the whole time I was with him! I saw it with my own eyes!"
"And, yet you couldn't have stopped him from doing...whatever he did that nearly got himself killed?!"
"We've fifteen years old now and we're almost sixteen, we're not little children any more-!"
"Don't take that tone of voice with us, young lady! As long as you're with us and you're in danger, you'll obey our rules, including mine, for your own good!"
"But, if you and Mom and Dad would just listen-!"
"Not another word! And, I am never, I repeat, NEVER going to hear whatever nonsense you two are pulling out in regards to wanting to deal with those dragons, IS THAT CLEAR?" screamed Stoick harshly, making her seethe at him as tears threatened to drip down her cheeks, her glare on him just as harsh, if not, harsher.
"What's wrong with that?" asked Sarah with a slight growl, seeing where things are going.
"That has got to be the stupidest and harshest thing I've ever heard!"
"Not cool!" Solar and Nebby agreed, sharing her feelings on the subject.
"And, what, may we ask, have they done to invoke such pathetic behavior on them from you all?" added Tsukumaro, also glaring hard at Stoick.
"Everything he does ends in disaster!" he barked.
"Then, how would you explain that there's no body count for him if anything and everything he did does go wrong? Did anybody end up dead or cremated, did you have to bury any bodies he might've gotten under him?"
Everybody blinked in surprise and Stoick didn't have a rebuttal for that. "Well, uh... No, but that doesn't mean-!" he tried to explain before Sarah raised a hand to shut him up finally, her glare unwavering.
"That's fine," she said finally, forcing him to sigh in defeat.
"It's not his fault our village ended up being destroyed much more than usual," added Zenna, rebutting Stoick angrily much to the growing worry of her parents. "And, what's more, the dragon he shot down earlier was-!"
"Zenna, darling! Please, I think you've said enough for one night," begged Henna.
"I apologize, Stoick. Please forgive our daughter's brashness, she's just trying her best to stay strong after what happened to..." Edgar trailed before Zenna got in his face angrily, making him flinch.
"Dad! This has nothing to do with Elias and he doesn't want me to mourn him forever!" she spat at him, making Stoick look at her with a twinge of pity while Sarah and her party blink and gasp in shock at her on that bombshell. "I'm continuing to live on for him, you and Mom have no idea what he said to me that day!"
"I see... Your brother was a fine warrior and you're just as feisty as him, maybe more so than he'll ever be... I'll give you that," he said finally in pitiful exhaustion before he asked Gobber to take him back home.
Gobber and Hiccup's departure caused Zenna to glare furiously at Stoick, her parents, and her own people for their lackluster impressions and continued babying of her and her childhood friend before she went off after the two in a huff, her angry tears now falling. This left Stoick, Edgar, and Henna to sigh sadly and feel a twinge of regret for being too harsh on them before everyone decided to disperse following the heated exchange between them.
Sarah, Tsukumaro, Solar, and Nebby felt sorry for the Viking underdogs and decided to go after them but not before giving Stoick, Henna, and Edgar a suspicious yet searing glare for being too overprotective of them for what they could describe as understandable but misplaced reasons. This also resulted in Tuffnut and Snotlout getting themselves a hard Tail Whip and a raspberry from Nebby after he saw them giving Hiccup a hard time along with everyone else as they all laughed at him (sans Astrid who ignored him as she sharpened her battle ax).
"Anybody got a problem with that?" he asked, making the Vikings shut up and shake their heads in fear of earning his and Sarah's wrath.
As he and Gobber made their way back to his and Stoick's home, Hiccup couldn't understand why everyone wouldn't take him and Zenna seriously nor see that he's doing his best to become a Viking in his own right despite what they all thought of the two.
"I really did hit one," he sighed.
"Sure you did, Hiccup," replied Gobber nonchalantly.
"He never listens."
"Well, it runs in the family."
"And, when he does, it's always with this...disappointed scowl, like someone skimping the meet on his sandwich," he added in his own disappointment before he copied his father's tone and said, "Excuse me, barmaid! I'm afraid you brought me the wrong offspring. I ordered an extra-large boy with beefy arms. Extra guts and glory on the side. This here, this is a talking fishbone!"
"And, what's more, ever since Elias died, he, Henna, and Edgar had been treating us like babies and we've never been able to do anything on our own. Why can't they be more understanding of what we wanted to do ourselves? Why can't they let us be free to do what we want including helping you all defeat the dragons?"
"Now, now, Hiccup. Don't judge them too harshly and you and Zenna know your father and her parents better. It's not so much what you both looked like, it's what inside the both of you that they can't stand."
"Thank you for summarizing that up," Hiccup sighed again, sarcastically.
"Look, I know how it's been for you but you're trying too hard to become the people you're simply not meant to be. The point is, you two have got to stop trying to be somebody you're not. If you're not meant to be Vikings, then so be it."
"We just wanted to be one of you guys and have real friends," he replied before they reached his house and he went back inside, making Gobber sigh in defeat as he left.
Zenna arrived a few moments later and sighed for her childhood friend before she found Sarah, Tsukumaro, Nebby, and Solar behind her, looking sorry for her and Hiccup and what they had to go through.
"Hey, what do you want?" she questioned tiredly, not wanting to deal with more ridicule and babying anymore.
"Zenna, I'm sorry... Viking life must've been pretty hard on you and Hiccup given what you went through," Sarah said, picking her words carefully.
"I agree, I'm sure your parents, Gobber, and this Stoick character will come around eventually," nodded Tsukumaro in soft encouragement. "You just have to prove it to them that you can take care of yourselves and be your own man and woman in a way that'll allow them to see."
"Well, I suppose we would if Stoick and my mom and dad weren't keeping us on a figurative leash all the time," Zenna continued.
"You were just frustrated that you weren't taken seriously and you're no longer kids," confided Solar comfortingly. "Parents are always like that with their kids with tragic events like the death of a family member or close friend in one way or another. They were just scared that they'll lose you in a way that they can't counter."
"Yeah, it's almost like with me and Mama. I almost died in the hands of a mad scientist guy when I was a baby but I was saved by Mama and I became what you see me as now. We all know it," added Nebby.
"I appreciate you all trying to cheer me up but I'll feel better once we find that dragon we shot down."
"Then, let us help you and see if we can find the dragon shot down," Sarah offered. "If we find the dragon and bring it back here, maybe we can convince everyone you're no longer kids and you'll be real Vikings to them and yourselves."
"...Alright, then we'll head to the forest and find Hiccup. If I know my old Bolas For Brains, anyway, he's already down there looking for the dragon," she nodded finally after a moment.
With that and her new friends in tow, Zenna led her small party to the forest to Raven Point in hopes of finding the dragon she and Hiccup managed to shoot down and prove to everyone that they're real Vikings, Hiccup already having left his home through the back door to do so. But, little did the Viking dogs know that their encounter with the dragon and their unexpected chance meeting with Sarah and her family would propel them through their own adventure of a lifetime, one that would throw everything they had known about dragons since birth into question and doubts about they were to the Vikings would begin to fester.
At the same time, after he, Henna, and Edgar parted ways with the latter two deciding to return home early and wait for Zenna to return home after she cooled down following her heated exchange with the Viking Chief, Stoick joined his fellow Vikings (sans Hiccup and Zenna's peers who had all gone home) gathered in the village's Meade Hall. They were all currently discussing how to end the Berk Dragon Wars in their own way, deciding to forget about his and Zenna's latest harsh spat.
"Listen up, Vikings! We're almost on the edge of victory here so we either finish them or they'll finish us!" he declared, his plan all set up.
"The source of their being here in this world is at the Dragon's Nest, it's the only way we'll be rid of them and we'll finally live in peace! If we find it and destroy it, the dragons will leave and they will find a new home. One last search before the ice sets in, that's how long we have until then."
"The Dragon's Nest has never been found in years, Stoick."
"Any Viking ships that have sailed there and confronted the dragons, if its location is known, have never come back," two random Vikings put in.
"We're Vikings, it's an occupational hazard and it's our only hope of ensuring that peace will still reign in Berk! Now, who's with me?"
To Stoick's dismay, the Vikings were hesitant about following through with his plan since they have no leads as to where the Dragon's Nest even is in their world nor are they wanted to risk putting out a frontal assault given what had happened to Vikings before them that tried to chase them away or kill them in their own domain. Defeated as he heard them muttering to themselves worriedly, Stoick sighed as he offered another solution to try and convince them.
"Oh, alright. If not, those who stay can look after Zenna and Hiccup," he pointed out, getting raised hands out of everybody in the hall that left him with a satisfied smile, knowing that in his mind, his son and his childhood friend will be safe. "That's more like it."
With that, the Vikings all left to prepare for their assault according to Stoick's plan with Gobber preparing to leave himself and join them on his mission.
"Right, I'd better go pack my undies," he announced to Stoick.
"No, Gobber. I need you to stay here and train the new recruits," Stoick countered.
"Oh, perfect. And, while I'm busy along with Edgar and Henna who'll be joining us, Hiccup and Zenna can cover the stall while the lass continues her training in her own time," began Gobber sarcastically. "Molten steel, razor-sharp blades, lots of time to themselves... What could possibly go wrong?"
Stoick sighed in regret, seeing that his old friend and brother-in-arms hit the nail right on the head. Right now, he was seeing the worried and stressed-out father to Hiccup and caretaker to Zenna away from her parents. Above all else, he was still Hiccup's father and his and Zenna's safety comes first.
"What am I, Edgar, and Henna going to do with them, Gobber? Hiccup, especially?"
"Do what I've always wanted you to do: put them in training with the others and bring them up from there," replied Gobber with knowing concern written on his face.
"I'm serious, old friend. He's still too young and she's too feisty for her own good, much more than Elias now after he died."
"So am I, you know that they're not getting any younger. Even Edgar and Henna would have to come to terms with that sooner or later."
"They'd be killed in seconds before you even let the first dragon out of its cage!"
"You don't know that."
"I do, actually."
"No, you don't."
"I really do."
"No, you don't!"
"Listen, you know what they're like, my son most of all. From the time he could crawl, he's been...different. He's much more outgoing and eager to do things we had to do instead of leading a normal life. He never listens and he has the attention span of a sparrow. I take him fishing at times and he goes hunting for...for trolls! The same can be said for Zenna with her family before and after we lost her brother, she's the oddball of the family and only Elias was able to reign her in and keep her in check. We're all scared for them, Gobber. They still don't know what they're getting themselves into!"
"Trolls exist!" Gobber replied incredulously. "They steal your socks but only the left ones. What's with that?"
Stoick's eyes softened as his parental worrying grew and he reminisced on something that his own father taught him and what he had learned about being a real Viking in everyone's eyes while Gobber rolled his own in amusement.
"When I was a boy..."
"Oh, here we go."
"...My father told me to bang my head against a rock and I did just that. I thought he was crazy to suggest such a thing but I didn't question him and went forward with it. And, you know what happened right after?"
"You got a headache."
"That rock ultimately split in two. It taught me what a Viking could do and who he or she is, Gobber - a person without fear in the face of danger, someone who could crush massive mountains, level dense forests, tame uncharted seas! Even as a boy, I knew who and what I was, what I had to become. Hiccup, on the other hand, is not that boy. Not even Zenna is a girl of that caliber, she's also not ready to become a Viking. The loss of Elias was too much for her parents to bear and they had to do everything they could to keep her from going down that path but like Hiccup, she's just not the type to follow orders, not even my own."
"You can't stop them, Stoick. You three can only prepare them for what was about to come, something I'm sure we Vikings have no idea what given we've never explored much of our own world and there's a lot we still don't know about it. I know it seems hopeless to you, Edgar, and Henna but the truth is you won't always be around to protect them. They're probably going to go out there again, they're probably out there right now."
As the two friends looked at Berk and thought about everything they discussed, Stoick began to think. Maybe Gobber was right; Hiccup and Zenna would have to look out and think for themselves and become Vikings in their own right. Sure, it won't be what he, Henna, and Edgar would want but they knew that their time would be inevitable and soon, they'll have to look out for each other when they eventually die. Perhaps, they should give the two another chance no matter what happens.
Meanwhile, after managing to reunite with Hiccup, the small party of six managed to arrive at Raven Point to look for the dragon the underdog Vikings shot down and its crash site. So far, they haven't found anything involving a defeated dragon or its crash site and Hiccup crossed out the latest spot they found before he groaned in frustration. He was getting tired of him and Zenna being treated like babies and he wanted all of that to change.
"Oh, don't tell me the gods hate us, Zenna. Seriously, some people lose their knife or a mug, nothing wrong with that since they're easily found on sight. But, not me, no... I managed to lose us an ENTIRE DRAGON!" he groaned to his childhood friend, hitting a branch that smacked him at the back of his head.
"Look, Hiccup, I know you're mad right now but if the dragon did land somewhere here, why don't we go back and look for it again tomorrow?" she consoled warmly, looking concerned for him. "I'm just as angry as you are with everybody else but it's not the end of the world for us if we don't find it today or tonight."
"Yeah, but that doesn't make it any better given how hard we tried earlier."
"She's right, Hiccup. So, what if everybody, even your peers, don't expect you to become Vikings since you do things your own way involving those dragons? You may be trying too hard but at least you're putting in some valuable effort in doing so, right?" said Sarah, wanting to cheer Hiccup up.
"I guess. But, really-"
"Princess, Sir Hiccup, Ms. Zenna, look up," called Tsukumaro, pointing to what looked like broken trees and branches, some trees looking like they've been snapped in half. "It looks as though something crashed along this area, it could be the dragon you two mentioned you shot down earlier."
They then went down a small hill and then, to everyone's surprise as well as Sarah's shock, there was the dragon-a male Night Fury like Shadow-on the ground, tied up in the bola, looking seemingly unconscious.
While Zenna and Hiccup hid behind a nearby log and carefully watched it with Tsukumaro, Solar, and Nebby joining them, Sarah just looked at it before she steeled herself and jumped over it, making her way to the downed dragon. The two Viking underdogs were shocked by what she was doing while Tsukumaro, Solar, and Nebby stood by, knowing what she was doing.
"Sarah, what are you doing?!" whispered Hiccup, shocked.
"Sarah, come back!" Zenna hissed quietly.
But, Sarah didn't listen as she went up close to the Night Fury and gently rubbed it. "You poor thing, what did those Vikings do to you and your kind?" she cooed, not wanting to think it's dead as the others carefully approached as well but keeping a cautious eye on the Night Fury.
Hiccup, looking closer at the dragon, could hardly believe it as he was ecstatic. "Oh, wow... This is for real, I did it. Oh, I-I-I did it, I-I really did it! This fixes everything, Zenna! It worked, we did it! Yes! We've brought down this massive beast before us!" he hollered while stepping on the seemingly dead dragon's front left leg.
The male Night Fury grunted, making the two (sans Sarah and her family) back away in surprise before Hiccup took out a dagger and prepared to make his Viking mark by killing it in hopes of turning his and Zenna's fortunes around. But, as she looked down at the dragon trapped in the bola before them (which was now staring at them with its light green eyes), Zenna started to feel like their victory was hollow, almost like it meant nothing now as she looked at it despite being filled with joy for her and Hiccup's lives to change for the better after bringing it down.
"Alright, dragon. My friend and I are going to kill you. I-I'm gonna-we're gonna cut out your heart and take it to my father," Hiccup continued, the dagger shaking in his hands as he prepared to make the kill, holding it over the powerful dragon. "I'm a Viking, I'm a Viking...I'm a Viking!"
He then took a deep breath as he finally raised his dagger and prepared to deliver the final blow but as he swung down, he felt someone touching and grabbing his wrists, stopping him from killing it. Hiccup looked up to the one responsible and to his shock, it was Sarah who stopped him as she shook her head with disapproval at him before she nodded towards the Night Fury, the two underdogs looking at its eyes to see fear in them. It was visibly scared and they could see fear for its life in them.
Realizing what Sarah was hinting him to and seeing how defenseless the dragon currently is, despite his continued attempts to try and kill it with Sarah still holding onto his wrists, Hiccup finally gave in. He now knows that he couldn't bring himself to kill the poor creature and neither could Zenna if she was in his position, it now just felt...wrong. There was no longer any meaning behind killing it despite their previous hopes.
"Hiccup?" asked Zenna worriedly.
"...We did this, Zenna," he sighed, giving up entirely. "No... I did this, you had nothing to do with what happened to it."
Hiccup decided to walk away but he took one more look at the dragon, he didn't want to leave it trapped like that because of what is now seen as his mistake. So, he decided to do the one thing no other Viking could ever do with a dragon - he decided to set it free; he got to work cutting the bola off of the dragon, making it snap its eyes open and spare a glance at him. The bolas got looser and looser as Hiccup continued to cut the dragon free.
As soon as he finished cutting the last rope, the Night Fury immediately tackled him into a large rock, pinning him down and shocking Zenna and the others as it stared at him with angry eyes. While it was glad to have been freed from its restraints, it didn't take too kindly to him being the one to shoot it down from the skies as he did even with Zenna's help.
"Hiccup, no!" cried Zenna, rushing over to help him.
But, before she or the others could react, the second Viking underdog of Berk was tackled to the ground and being pinned by another black blur. The black blur was revealed to be a third Night Fury, only this one turned out to be a female as it growled at her, liking having found its supposed mate and also blaming her and Hiccup for what happened to it. For a moment, the two dragons stared at them while Zenna and Hiccup exchanged terrified looks but then, they reared back, opened their wings, and roared in their faces.
With the Furies having made the message sent to them clear, they turned and flew away (the male struggling to fly as it ended up crashing into some trees with the female flying alongside it) as they went off deeper into the forest. Unsure of what to make of the scene before them, Hiccup and Zenna got back up on their feet, still in shock before they turned to Sarah and her family.
"W-w-w-Why didn't you do anything?" Zenna stammered, trying to compose herself.
"I didn't have to," Sarah told her. "I knew they wouldn't hurt you. If they wanted to, you would've been dead by now."
"H-h-How...?" gasped Hiccup, unsure of why Sarah would be so calm about dragons.
"That's something for me to know and you two, and only you two, to find out. Now, if you'll excuse us, we need to go meet up with some friends to make camp. And, don't worry, we're in a spot far away from any dragons so we won't be attacked even if they did decide to come here."
"Uh... O-o-Ok, see ya later," nodded Zenna.
"Bye," said Nebby as they left.
With all that said, Sarah, Tsukumaro, Solar, and Nebby made their way in the same direction as the Night Fury mates into the forest, leaving their new friends alone in their current spot with a lot to think about. When they disappeared and they were out of sight, Hiccup and Zenna, still overcome with shock over the Night Furies and Sarah's unusually calm disposition towards them, decided to head back home before it got dark. But, they didn't get very far until eventually, they groaned as they then fainted on the spot, the evening's events becoming too much for the Viking underdogs to bear.
With Sarah, she, Solar, Nebby, and Tsukumaro continued through the forest until they finally arrived at a forest cove where they found Nebula, Eternatus, and her dragons inside it. The cove was filled with lush and dense foliage and a flowery meadow, surrounded by rock faces from all sides, bridged to the outside world only by a small gap between two rock faces.
The rock faces are all covered with vines, moss, and thick roots from older trees that sat at the edge of the rock faces. Further inside the cove, there was an inland freshwater lake in the middle of it, fed only via a small waterfall from a river connecting it. It was littered with mossy rocks forming the occasional stack and there were several taller pine trees inside it. It was an ideal spot for anybody looking for some peace and tranquility away from any prying eyes of Berk's Vikings.
The quartet quietly entered the cove, Sarah and Tsukumaro finding it safe to release their Pokemon family and have them all join the pair and the others as they all sighed and shook themselves from their being in confined spaces again. Their release caught the attention of Nebula, the dragons, and Eternatus who were relieved to see Sarah, Nebby, Tsukumaro, and Solar unharmed.
"AUNTIE!" cried the Night Lights, darting towards her and tackling her to the ground, making her laughing as they nuzzled her.
"Are you okay?"
"Did those Vikings hurt you?"
"You weren't caught and found out, were you?" Dart and her brothers questioned worriedly.
"Don't worry, they didn't suspect a thing," Sarah reassured. "You weren't with us and they didn't know a thing about us being related."
But, then, the princes frowned as she remembered the Vikings' previous demeanor towards the dragons and her efforts in managing to stop Hiccup from killing the male Night Fury he and Zenna managed to shoot down as well as the sounds of battle between the dragons and Berk's Vikings. She now fully understood why her dragons were so adamant against returning to their old home and crossing paths with the humans that gave their species so much grief and death before coming to the World of Pokemon.
"But, I see what you mean about those Vikings. Just now, we saw several of them duking it out with Nadders, Nightmares, the like, and there were casualties on both sides before the battle was done."
"So, you saw the ugly side of the war we had to face already?" remarked Hurricane, to which she just nodded.
"That's how it's been for us every day until we left this stupid world and I'm sick of it!" exclaimed Hydro, still hating to be back in Berk. "Death every day on both sides, humans only thinking about themselves as the barbarians they are, all the grief they've given us after we were captured and taken in as prisoners or sentenced to death to be used as trophies with our heads and hearts they've mounted on their walls!"
"I hate to say it but I'm starting to regret coming back here even after finding this cove," replied Skystorm, feeling uneasy. "It's the same story even after all this time. Even now, those bastards haven't changed and they and we dragons are still at each other's throats."
"Not all of them are like that, Skystorm," Sarah rebutted gently, remembering Hiccup and Zenna.
"...What?" the Deadly Nadder blinked.
"Are you crazy?" gawked Inferno.
"Did you not see how they're massacring our fellow dragons?" Sapphire rebutted.
"Most of the Vikings are like that but there are two I found to be the runts since they often got the short end of the stick from them including their own parents."
"Wait, two Vikings that are not really Vikings? Is that what you're saying?" questioned Tepig.
"No way, the dragons told us they're barbarians. How can there be two who are the farthest things one can get from what is normally seen as a Viking?" retorted Kovu.
Sarah just sighed as she looked at Solar, her godfather, and Nebby and they nodded. "I think we need to tell you all something," replied Tsukumaro as he, the blue Lion Beast Bot, Nebby, and his goddaughter told them about Hiccup and Zenna.
Needless to say, everyone was shocked by the news. "Let me get this straight, Hiccup's father just told you that everything he did ends in disaster and right in his face, too?" gawked Kurma in shock and disbelief.
"Yeah," nodded Solar, still concerned for Hiccup and Zenna.
"Must be hard for those two having to deal with peer pressure and being ridiculed by not being a Viking given how sharply different his mindset is from his father's," pondered Ching Wan.
"I'll say; if something happened to them that made these Stoick, Henna, and Edgar characters being overprotective and overbearing as they were, then we could definitely see where they're coming from," agreed Hashimoto.
"But, isn't he being a bit of a meanie to Mr. Hiccup for just wanting to help and be a Viking?" asked Mai innocently.
"Sometimes, there are some things in life that make parents so overprotective of their children," replied Zarude, seeing where she and the Wushu Brothers were all going. "If they lost any family members and close friends during these Berk Dragon Wars, then it's only natural for Stoick, Henna, and Edgar to want to keep Hiccup and Zenna out of danger."
"Yeah, but still, isn't Stoick being too harsh on Hiccup by saying that everything he does ends in disaster for everyone?"
"And, this blacksmith guy tried to convince Hiccup for him and his be friend to not be Vikings and that it's what's within them, in their own hearts, that he and her parents can't stand?"
"Good news, Eternatus. Our royal charge finally found someone who's more of, what these humans would say, a bigger 'pain in the ass' than you," chuckled Mischief to the Gigantic Pokemon.
"I have no comment whatsoever," replied Eternatus, having no rebuttal to that.
"Still, it's sad that the poor darlings have to deal with sticking out like sore thumbs just because they weren't meant to be Vikings," sighed Persian sadly, worried for Hiccup and Zenna.
"No kidding; all they wanted to do was just be like one of them and fit in," added Keldeo, feeling the same way.
"Sometimes, Keldeo, some humans just don't see eye to eye with others and they simply expect too much out of them on any matter," comforted Virizion.
"I don't know about you but I'd say this revelation just compromises things for us off the get-go," Cranidos put in thoughtfully. "And, that's on top of the fact that Hiccup and Zenna decided to not kill that male Night Fury when they had the chance, especially before that second female Night Fury showed up."
"Why didn't he do it and why didn't she step up, kill the Night Fury they shot down?" inquired a confused Tyrantrum, stumped over Hiccup and Zenna's refusal to kill the Night Fury from before.
"That is strange. Normally, Vikings are ferocious beings that have no fear and who are able to withstand any obstacle that stands in their way," thought Rotom-Dex, thinking over everything that happened with Zenna and Hiccup. "If Zenna and Hiccup were unable to kill that Night Fury and do the same to the female Night Fury getting the drop on them, maybe they realized already that there's more to the dragons than meets the eye just as you did, Sarah."
"Either way, I'm a little worried for them now. If Stoick or anybody else finds out that they didn't kill them and they get the wrong idea about what happened, who knows what'll happen to them?"
"Well, Mother, what do you plan on doing? Do we move forward with an idea or something to end the Berk Dragon Wars?" questioned Silvally.
"We've not much to go on but for now, I think it's best if I keep close to Hiccup and Zenna and see what happens," replied Sarah, coming up with a plan. "If everything goes smoothly and Hiccup and Zenna have something in mind regarding those dragons, I'll see what I can come up with to end the war and stop everything. For now, I think we should just get some sleep."
That night, while all of Berk was in a deep slumber, everyone in the cove was fast asleep as they prepared to go through a long period of sorts to end the Berk Dragon Wars as best they could. The younger Pokemon were sleeping in the enchanted tent with Sarah and Tsukumaro while the older Pokemon slept outside near it.
The two humans and the Pokemon were sleeping easily despite whatever difficulties could be ahead of them but with Winter, Shadow, and the dragons (the adults), they weren't having it easy. For them, as they slept, numerous nightmares and bad memories they've been having about their homeworld and all of the pain, trauma, hatred, fear, and rage they've endured for many years in Berk have been plaguing them. It was even worse for them now since returning to their former homeworld brought all of them back to the surface after they've pushed them down in favor of living out their new lives in the World of Pokemon.
They all tossed and turned in their sleep as they sank into nightmares of the sounds and images of the ongoing war between dragons and humans, the screams of humans and dragons falling by each other's claws and blades as they were killed, the begging roars and pleas of their fellow dragons to run or hide from the world and humanity in their final moments before they were slaughtered, and so on.
They finally returned to reality as they all woke up with a gasp and in a cold sweat after a while, looking around and seeing their current abode as it is and no signs of dead bodies, blood, or weapons and body parts scattered across the ground. The screams have also silenced as they all breathed a sigh of relief and nodded to each other, knowing that they've been having the same nightmares as before.
They each looked at their hatchlings and smiled with great relief as they gently nuzzled each of them and they were able to rest after slightly feeling the missing comfort of their parents as they prepared to head out and clear their minds for a moment.
But, as they all headed out of the cove to find a spot where they were sure they would never be spotted by the Vikings, they all failed to notice a worried-looking Blitz and Curly peering out to them from the enchanted tent, both of them feeling nothing but deep worry for the dragons as they left.
The adult dragons eventually found a high ledge that allows them to see the entire village with no chance of being spotted (unless the Vikings get really lucky, which they hoped not) that Hiccup and Zenna call home on Berk and they soon sighed, feeling anxious as they looked to their paws. Even now, they were already regretting returning to their former homeworld off the bat. Despite Sarah's reassurances and knowing that their family will be able to protect them, they were still on edge about getting close to the humans who've caused them so much trauma and pain in the past.
"Can't sleep?"
Winter and the dragons gasped as they all turned to fight whoever found them until they realized it was a worried Blitz and Curly approaching them from the shadows.
"Blitz, Curly, you scared us!"
"We thought you were one of the Vikings out on a nightly patrol and have picked us out already!"
"Could you please not do that?" grumbled Echo, Voltage, and Shovelhelm, trying to calm down after their nasty scare.
"Sorry, we saw you leaving and we were worried about you," Curly apologized as she and Blitz joined them.
"What's the matter, guys? Aren't you glad to be back and we're gonna put a stop to this madness in a way?" inquired Blitz.
"Just thinking..." replied Shadow, sighing before turning his exhausted and sorrowful gaze on Berk, laced with doubt. "You really think Sarah will be able to get those conniving barbarians to realize their mistakes and end the Dragon Wars?"
"Sure she's sure! She's never lied about doing what's right before, you saw how it worked out when we went up against Team Eclipse and joined forces with the Power Rangers Beast Morphers and the Power Rangers Dino Charge against Sledge, Evox, and their cronies amongst a few other things we did with you. How can this be any different?"
"We're not denying that, but the truth is... We don't think she'll get those savages to ever change their minds about us."
"What, but why doubt Sarah now if you haven't seen her doing her thing yet?" Curly blinked, not understanding why the dragons don't fully trust Sarah on stopping the Berk Dragon Wars. "Are you really sure she won't be able to help them see that what everybody's doing on both sides is wrong and not right?"
"Curly, you all weren't with us when we had to deal with all the horrors we dragons have been subjected to," replied Camo, not wanting to keep his hopes up on what he and the dragons believe is a lost cause. "Sure, we now know that Hiccup and Zenna are no longer a threat given what happened with those wild Night Furies they've encountered but what about the rest of those bastards down at Berk?"
"Those two are just the minority of a huge array of humanity wanting to hunt us down and kill us for their own greed and pleasure," added Silver. "The rest are not so merciful since slaying and killing dragons is all they've ever known in their lives."
"But, Mom got Eternatus to change after she captured him and started to rehabilitate him last year. Can you really deny that?" Blitz argued, getting raised eyebrows from the dragons. "...Okay, not as fast as we'd hoped but even with 3000 years of hatred and contempt for humanity under his belt, she made progress and he started to open his heart to us. You know her better than that and when she promised we would protect you if they want to fight her after they find out about you, she meant it!"
"We really want to believe that but this time, we feel that she's overreaching herself given what we're up against this time," retorted Ruby with a sigh. "There's no hope for Berk and we'd prefer to keep it that way if it all goes belly-up."
"But, we can make a difference for them! And, Hiccup and Zenna can help us if we tell them alone-!"
"Well, we're not sure if we can take your word for it! Thousands of dragons and humans who lost their lives would tell you otherwise!"
"That doesn't mean we can't try!" begged Curly.
"Yeah, and you want to know what happened when we did try to reach out to humanity? We got our tails whipped, we lost our parents, we became orphans by the hands of those savages who don't know a damn thing about us and who/what we really are," argued Sapphire, still having serious doubts.
"Look around you while you're at it! Most of us are nothing but trophies on the walls of their houses in that accursed village, many are on the verge of extinction mostly by their hands being stained with the blood of our kind, we're losing homes left and right because those humans don't care about us and only for themselves! When captured or put on watch before our inevitable executions, we're treated like circus animals, birds trapped in a cage being denied the freedom to fly with no borders hounding us! You want to know why we all left this wretched deathtrap and the bloodbath it bathes in from time to time, it's because humanity in this cruel world doesn't deserve us. Never has, never will."
"You can still change that regardless, we all can! Even Mom's going to!" Blitz persisted.
"We promise we'll protect you no matter what, guys. She's as tough as nails and she would never let anything happen to you if those Vikings lay one finger on you," Blitz's girlfriend agreed.
"No, Blitz, Curly. If this mission fails somehow and there's no change in those monsters, we're done trying. Even if we're to try as you've been begging us to do, who's to say that history of the Dragon Wars won't repeat itself?" grumbled Rosa, starting to lose patience over Curly and Blitz's persistence of hope in the matter. "Humanity, in all its forms, has a violent and deadly streak that instigates conflict one way or another. And, no matter what happens, they always seem to have a reason to fight. What makes you think dragons and humans in this world will eventually make peace once Sarah does manage to make them see sense?"
"You know Mom is never one to give up even in the most extreme of circumstances. If those Vikings didn't want to hear what she says and she has to fight her way out to find and reveal the truth to them, so be it," replied Blitz, he and Curly both giving the dragons firm but loving glares.
"She's the strongest trainer everybody in Alola's got to know, even her own friends. Those Vikings won't know what hit them. Besides, don't you remember her telling us about King Doug and Queen Delilah?" put in Curly, hoping to convince them before they could continue to think differently. "They only put their feet down whenever necessary and Ms. Sarah's willing to try regardless because she loves you. She'll end up doing all that she can with you in mind and nobody on the Vikings' side is going to stop her!"
The dragons eventually grew quiet as they tried to wrestle with Blitz and Curly's words clashing with their own personal experiences with their struggle between life and death before meeting them and Sarah. They were still firm in their confirmed beliefs that Berk and its inhabitants don't deserve to live and have the dragons live alongside them because of everything the Vikings have done to them and their kind.
However, despite their words and experiences being confirmed when Sarah had to save Hiccup and Zenna and deal with how the Vikings are, they couldn't help but admit that the Mouse Pokemon couple had a valid point and they were starting to feel a little guilty in doubting their rider and her best interests for them. They knew she meant her word when she promised she and their family would protect them and odds are that promise was not about to be broken anytime soon.
"...You're right, sorry. I suppose we should trust Sarah more on this," replied Sunflare, saying what all the adult dragons are thinking.
"How would we be sure if the Vikings are willing to hear her out on her need for peace in this world?" asked Rubble, still concerned.
"It may feel impossible but sometimes, you just have to take the first step. Even before you're ready," replied Curly, giving a soft smile. "Let's have faith in Sarah and leave the rest to her."
"And, besides, Mom's well-protected since she has a ton of assets besides all of us to defend herself and make them listen. She is half-lion after all," added Blitz knowingly. "The queen of the beasts who knows when and how to assert her dominance above all others and for a kingdom. No matter what the Vikings do and should the truth of our being here come out, she'll fight to protect everyone she loves, humans, dragons, and Pokemon alike. That means you, too."
"...Alright, we'll trust her. No matter what happens, we'll do what we can to help make peace with everyone in this world," Shadow replied as the other adult dragons nodded in agreement.
Blitz and Curly nodded in agreement, glad that they were able to convince the dragons to keep hope up for their cause and to better trust Sarah on their current predicament. But then, a bright, fiery orange light caught their attention from nearby as it blinked from the corner of their eyes.
Looking at each other in confusion, Blitz and Curly went over to the blinking glow and found what looked to be a large white stone looking like a sphere that was the source of the glow. They rolled the stone out to show the dragons and they were also surprised to see such a thing in a dangerous place such as Berk.
"What is that?" blinked Lilac in surprise.
"I don't know. Blitzy and I found it blinking inside one of the bushes and we discovered that it was the thing glowing near us earlier," replied Curly, looking over the strange stone. "What do you think, Blitzy?"
"I don't know, either. It's too late to think on that right now, anyway," he replied, feeling that there was something peculiar about the stone. "Something tells me we better take it with us. Hopefully, we'll figure it out later."
Neither Curly nor the dragons knew what Blitz meant when he said that but they decided to trust him, knowing that it was still late and they'll need their sleep for their long stay until the Berk Dragon Wars can be quelled. Returning to the cove following their heart-to-heart with Blitz and Curly (who went back into the tent with the stone at hand), the dragons were able to sleep soundly again as they curled around their children, no longer plagued by their nightmares even for a time. But, what they didn't know is that the stone would hold a shocking yet legendary surprise for everybody including the Vikings whether they know about it or not.
At the same time, returning home to the Haddock House, Hiccup entered and he ran past Stoick just as he was beginning to leave and begin his search for the Dragon's Nest as soon as dawn breaks. He hoped that he wouldn't be seen or heard upon returning as he quietly crawled up the stairs but unfortunately for him, he noticed his son, anyway.
"Hiccup?" he began, prepping himself to let Hiccup take responsibility as a Viking.
"Dad?!" he blinked, stopping halfway up the stairs. "Dad, uh... I have to talk with you, I've been doing a lot of thinking and..."
"Yeah, me too. In fact, I wanted to talk with you, Son, if that's alright with you."
Then, before any of them could react they spoke in unison, "I've decided that I don't want/I think it's time for you to learn how to fight dragons. What?"
"You go first."
"No, no, you go first."
"Alright. You get your wish - dragon training. You start in the morning, you're long overdue for it, anyway."
"Oh, man, I should've gone first!" panicked Hiccup. "Uh, 'cause I was thinking, you know! We have a surplus of dragon-fighting Vikings but do we have enough...bread-making Vikings, or small home repair Vikings-?"
Stoick, not giving his son another chance to explain himself doing what he now feels is right, simply gives him a one-sided ax. "You'll need this," he said to him.
"Dad, please listen! I don't want to fight dragons anymore," repeated Hiccup, trying to backtrack but making Stoick laugh in amusement.
"Of course you do, son! Isn't that what you wanted for a while?"
"Yes, I did say that! But, just recently, I-!"
"Rephrase, Dad, I can't kill any dragons."
"But, you will kill dragons, will you?"
"Well, yes, but-!"
"Come on, Hiccup, do you want to kill dragons or not?"
"Dad, let me explain, please! I'm really, very sure that I won't."
"Sorry, Hiccup, but it's time. I've put it off for too long and it's time for you to become a man and a true Viking."
"Can't you let me explain?"
"This is serious, Son! You finally have your chance to us that you're a real Viking, after all. When you carry this ax, you carry all of us with you. We're a part of you now in battle as you'll soon be a part of us," Stoick persisted, wanting Hiccup to fulfill what had once been his greatest wish. "It'll be the same with Zenna and her parents when you see her with her silver fiber soft sword and her battle sticks."
"When you carry a weapon like this ax, that means you walk like us. You think like us, you talk like us, and no more of...this. Promise me, Son, promise me you'll become the best Viking in the world by doing this for me."
"Did you just gesture all of that to me?" noted Hiccup sarcastically.
"Do you promise?"
"Did you-?"
"Promise me! Deal or no deal?"
"...Deal, I promise."
Stoick smiled, feeling proud for his son. "Good. Good luck, my boy, train hard and fight hard. I'll be back, probably," he finished, heading for bed to get an early morning to prepare for the search.
"And, I'll be here, maybe..." Hiccup sighed sadly as he was alone in the room, feeling ignored by his father again but for the wrong reasons.
Hiccup was now left in a real pickle; he was finally allowed to do what he wanted most of all but his and Zenna's encounter with the Night Furies from before had changed him and now, he doesn't know what to do.
And, his, Zenna, and Sarah's problems were only just beginning since along with his childhood friend, he'll have to undertake dragon training, the one thing he now no longer wants to do after seeing the results of their efforts to kill the Night Fury he shot down and the female Night Fury they crossed paths with. All the while his father was away with his fellow Vikings as they begin their search for the Dragon's Nest to end the Berk Dragon Wars their way. However, he was also unaware that his failed conversation with his father was eavesdropped by a certain Tricky Fox Pokemon posing as a stray Pikipek, who immediately flew off to tell her family.
The following day, it was time for Astrid, Tuffnut, Ruffnut, Snotlout, and Fishlegs to begin their dragon training. All five were eager to start as they waited in the Dragon Killing Arena while Gobber, serving as their and Zenna and Hiccup's mentor for the exercises, entered and opened the gate. They entered and saw that the arena itself looked less welcoming to a dragon than to a Viking with the metal web around it covering the place and the multiple cages housing the dragons inside.
"Welcome, Young Vikings, to Dragon Training!" he announced.
"No turning back," breathed Astrid, ready to start.
"I hope I get some serious burns!"
"Well, I'm hoping for some mauling like on my shoulder or lower back!" said Tuffnut and Ruffnut, hoping to earn some battle scars.
"Yeah, it's only fun if you get a scar out of it," Astrid smirked.
"Yeah, no kidding, right? Pain, love it," remarked Hiccup sarcastically as he and Zenna entered with his new ax and her new battle sticks (two long metal sticks at sword-length strapped to her back that make up a staff and serve as a secondary weapon for her).
"Oh no, who invited him? Zenna, I get that, but him?" groaned Tuffnut as he saw them.
"Let's get started! The recruit who does the best will win the honor of killing his or her first dragon in front of the entire village!" Gobber went on.
"Hiccup already killed a Night fury so does that disqualify him or...?" sniggered Snotlout, causing the Thorston Twins to laugh at Hiccup's expense.
"Can I be transferred to the class with the real Vikings?" Tuffnut remarked, making the other teens sans Astrid laugh at him harder.
"Yeah, yeah, laugh all you want, Snot Nose," scoffed Zenna, not taking too kindly to their bullying. "If you were a real Viking, you'd be showing some real backbone in the face of real danger when we'd be fighting something much worse than dragons."
"Much like you two when you went up against that Monstrous Nightmare last night?" mocked Fishlegs, he and the others sans Astrid continuing to laugh.
"I wouldn't be too sure of that if I were you, Fish Eyes," snorted Sarah as she entered the arena, surprising the teens as she joined Hiccup and Zenna.
"Sarah! W-what a surprise!"
"What are you doing in the arena?" blinked the Viking underdogs in surprise.
"I've been asked by Gobber if I can join you for dragon training and to support you in becoming real Vikings. Plus, you really look like you needed my help since you got these guys stomping all over you when I saw you coming in."
"Oh, come on, Sarah! Why bother throwing those words around when you know the truth?" snorted Tuffnut with a smirk. "Out of all of us Vikings here in the arena, Hiccup's the farthest from being one and that makes him the perfect target. Even Zenna's perfect whenever we have the chance to push her buttons."
"And, there's nothing you can do to change that!" laughed Snotlout, getting in her face but only succeeded in really making her mad.
"Hiccup and Zenna will eventually be the best Vikings in the entire village, much better than any and all of you around this place! You really ought to be ashamed of yourselves, most of you Vikings obviously show little-to-no compassion for others, at all! No sense of empathy whenever they're down on their luck and needed help and a nudge in the right direction, either!"
"And, what are you gonna do about it? You're also scrawny and skinny and that display you did was nothing but a big bluff, I bet you can't even fight your way out of the arena if you're surrounding by a thousand dragons just as Hiccup can't!" continued Snotlout, still laughing in her face along with Tuffnut.
That was a big mistake for Snotlout to make in Sarah's presence as her glare hardened and she performed a Tommy Oliver/Jean Claude Van Damme Helicopter Kick on them, sending the two Vikings-in-Training flying into the arena wall as they screamed and then groaned in pain after they were smacked into it. It looks as though they were now fully regretting mocking the little princess as Fishlegs, Ruffnut, and even Astrid were left shocked by the powerful kick given to Tuffnut and Snotlout.
"I have no tolerance for anybody picking on others for one reason or another and that Helicopter Kick was just a sample of what you're gonna get if you really make me mad," she declared to the groaning Tuffnut and Snotlout just as an impressed Gobber, who had seen everything, came in.
"Ah, Sarah, good to see you again, Lass. Mighty impressive kick there, I tell ya. You've got the makings of a new future warrior and I'll be expecting much from you today," he chuckled before he turned to Zenna and Hiccup. "Don't worry, you two might be small and weak in a sense, you more than Zenna, really. But, that'll make you less of a target. They'll see you as sick or insane and go after the more Viking-like tens instead."
Hiccup nodded and with some encouraging nods from Zenna and Sarah, he and his friends joined the other Viking teens (including Tuffnut and Snotlout after getting themselves out of the wall) as they all entered the arena.
"Hey, Sarah, thanks. Nobody's ever done that for me. Well, other than Zenna, I-" Hiccup began, feeling grateful.
"Don't worry about it. You got the makings of a great Viking and so does Zenna, they just haven't seen it yet," Sarah grinned at him.
"Today's the day you'll begin your work to become real Vikings! Behind these doors are but a few of the dragon species you'll need to learn how to fight!" Gobber went on after they stood at attention, directing the group to a large, wooden, metal door that held some of the dragons that the Vikings captured.
Sarah felt a twinge of sadness and sympathy for the dragons as she could hear them cry out to be freed and wanting to make the Vikings pay for what they're forced to do but she held firm, knowing that she has to be strong in order to help her new friends and end the Berk Dragon Wars before they could escalate. And, that's on top of having to keep Hiccup and Zenna's sparing the male Night Fury and their encounter with its supposed mate a secret without the entire village knowing.
"First off, the Deadly Nadder!"
"Speed: 8; Armor defense level: 16," noted Fishlegs, being the brainiac of the Viking teens.
"The Hideous Zippleback, ooh!"
"Plus eleven strength times two"
"The Monstrous Nightmare!"
"Firepower: 15."
"The Terrible Terror!"
"Attack: 8; Venom: Twelve!"
"CAN YOU STOP THAT?" Gobber snapped at Fishlegs before he moved on and pointed to the last dragon in the cage just as he approached a lever. "And, finally... The Gronckle!"
"...Jaw strength: 8," Fishlegs whispered while he looked to Hiccup and Zenna.
"Whoa, whoa, wait a minute! Gobs, what's the deal? Aren't you going to teach us how to deal with them first?!" spluttered Snotlout, not expecting himself and his fellow Vikings to start battling the captured dragons off the bat.
"I'd prefer for future warrior Vikings to learn on the job, more to my liking, really," answered Gobber, pulling the lever he's close to and opened the cage, first releasing the Gronckle.
The Gronckle was brown in coloration and it started to blast fire at the teens. Save for Sarah, the teens scattered at the sight of it as the dragon flew around the arena clumsily, snarling as it flew around and watched its targets.
"Today's training is all about survival! If you get blasted, you're dead! Quick, any of you, what's the first thing you're going to need to defend yourselves?"
"A doctor?!"
"Plus five speed?!" Hiccup and Fishlegs guessed.
"A shield!" replied Astrid, knowing what a warrior Viking needs.
"Excellent, shields! Go!" nodded Gobber directing the teens to the shields laid out for them on the other side of the arena, leaving Sarah to pull out her Moon Shield (which she already has with her)and latched it into her left arm. "Your shield is the most important piece of equipment you need! If you must make a choice between a sword or shield, take the shield!"
While Sarah held out her Moon Shield and Zenna, Astrid, Fishlets, Snotlout, and Hiccup chose shields of their choice, Tuffnut and Ruffnut ended up grabbing the same shield. As with any and all siblings, especially twins, they ended up getting into a squabble over who gets to take the shield first, immediately fighting over it.
"Get your hands off my shield!" Tuffnut snapped.
"There's like a million shields for you to snag, Horns For Brains!" spat Ruffnut.
"Oh yeah? Why don't you take that one, it's got lots of flowers on it and that suits you!" smirked Tuffnut, making his sister take it and slam it onto his head.
Ruffnutt smirked back, "Oops, now this one has blood over it. So sorry, NOT!"
However, while they were in the middle of their squabbling, the Gronckle then shot at the shield they were fighting over. The shield exploded when the fireball made contact and the twins were left dazed and surprised which meant one thing to Gobber as he watched.
"Ruffnut, Tuffnut, you're out!" he declared to them before turning to the other remaining trainees and Sarah.
"What?" the twins gawked in bewilderment.
"Those shields on you are good for another thing useful to use: noise! Make lots of it in order to throw off a dragon's aim!" stated Gobber as the trainees and Sarah banged their weapons against their shields.
The constant banging and clanging of their weapons along their shields threw off the Gronckle as it shook its head around in confusion and agitation. To the Gronckle, as they continued to bang their axes and the Sun Sword against their shields, it looked as if more of them appeared through their vibrating motions, the noise from them causing its vision to disorientate and fool it to think there were many shields in front of it when there were actually six.
"All dragons have a limited number of shots, how many does a Gronckle have in its case?" continued Gobber.
"Five?" answered Snotlout.
"No! Six, Pea-Brain!" corrected Fishlegs, annoyed.
"Correct, six, in total! While Tuffnut and Ruffnut are out, that's one for each of you! When all six shots are fired, we'll call it until the next exercise!"
Fishlegs cheered for that but he foolishly raised his arms up into the air in his excitement, the shield he was holding immediately being blasted out of his hands by the Gronckle as it picked him out. Fishlegs was shocked by this and Gobber could see he didn't make much progress as Tuffnut and Ruffnut had not done before.
"Fishlegs, out," he declared, causing the teen in question to run away screaming.
That left Snotlout, Zenna, Hiccup, Astrid, and Sarah as the five remaining trainees left in the arena with Fishlegs, Tuffnut, and Ruffnut eliminated from the survival exercise. With Snotlout and Astrid, the two were beside each other as they prepared to tank the Gronckle's hit and while Sarah and Zenna are out on the field as well, Hiccup had run behind a plank to hide.
"Hiccup, get in here!" Gobber shouted to him, making him come out from behind the plank reluctantly, his and Zenna's experience with the Night Furies still playing on his mind.
"So, anyway, I'm moving into my parents' basement. You should come by sometime to work out, you look like you work out!" Snotlout said to Astrid, causing himself to be distracted and being blasted back by the Gronckle.
"Snotlout, you're done!" announced Gobber, seeing Snotlout take himself out with his moment of distraction.
"He's not making this easy but hopefully, it won't be too bad," thought Zenna as she also thought back to the Night Furies she and Hiccup encountered before she held back as best she can against the Gronckle's fire blast meant for her, being knocked back before she corrected herself and skidded on her feet.
"HA-HA-HA-HA-HA! Impressive, Zenna, you've passed!" laughed Gobber in approval, making her sigh with relief.
"So, I guess that leaves just you and me, huh?" Hiccup asked Astrid awkwardly, the latter having managed to dodge the blast sent towards her and Snotlout, leaving only her, Zenna, and Sarah, and Hiccup left.
"Nope, just you," she told him, bolting off and leaving him alone.
The Gronckle then spotted Stoick's son as it fired at the remaining Viking teen but it missed, causing his shield to be knocked out of his hand after Astrid had distracted him momentarily. Seeing this and knowing that it'll be coming after him with its last two shots, Hiccup ran over to retrieve his lost shield but ended up being cornered by the dragon as a result.
"One shot left-AH!"
"HICCUP!" Gobber and Zenna exclaimed in shock, seeing what was about to happen.
The Gronckle, keeping Hiccup cornered against the arena's stonewalls, was about to take fire with its last fireball but it stopped when it heard a loud whistle and turned back to the source of it. It was Sarah with her Moon Shield raised and a hard stare of the dragon, deciding to take action and deal with the dragon in her own way they faced each other, much to the shock of everybody else in the arena as she slowly approached it.
"Sarah, no!" Hiccup shouted in horror, seeing the Gronckle growling and then charging towards her.
"Sarah, get out of the way!" Zenna screamed, the other Viking teens being left stunned and speechless.
"SARAH!" cried Gobber, looking ready to step in and stop the Gronckle before...
To the group's shock, the Gronckle suddenly stopped in front of Sarah and hovered in front of her, its eyes widened as she looked straight at her own. It didn't know what it was it saw in them but the dragon that had no trouble duking it out with the Viking teens during the survival exercise suddenly looked docile and a lot less threatening toward the little princess. It didn't know what to make of her, at all.
"W-who are you?" it gasped, a female voice being fluent only to Sarah, indicating to her that it's a girl.
"Calm down, girl. It's all good, I'm not gonna hurt you," soothed Sarah as she holstered her shield and carefully approached the dragon.
"What are you doing?!" demanded Astrid, still in shock and disbelief.
"You're crazy, you know that?!" Snotlout bellowed, also still lost in his shock at what he's seeing.
"What in the name of Odin...?" breathed a stunned Gobber.
Once she was sure the Gronckle wouldn't attack, the little princess gave a bow as she dipped her upper body slightly in respect. Not sure what to make of it, the female Gronckle eventually complied with a bow back before the human girl approached her with a raised hand and then slowly and carefully rubbed her snout with a soft smile plastered on her face, making her purr gently.
"Mmm... You," the Gronckle began again, liking the gentle touch of her hand. "You're much better than any of those ragtag dolls who prefer playing these stupid games with me!"
That touch was all the Gronckle needed in the dragon's mind to trust Sarah, much more than the Vikings that did who-knows-what to her prior to Sarah's arrival to Berk, as she got up close and licked her face while getting a few giggles from her. The Vikings gathered were left in shock while Zenna and Hiccup were even more baffled by her actions towards a dragon. Dragons were normally violent and dangerous creatures to them but to Sarah, they're no different than a pet dog or cat as shown by her actions with the Gronckle.
"Okay, now that that's over with, how about we get you back inside?" asked Sarah to the Gronckle who just nodded happily and licked her face again.
The Vikings continued to watch in disbelief and shock as Sarah gently led the once-violent dragon back to the gate, the Gronckle wagging her tail as she walked alongside her before she was brought back to her cage and leaving Sarah to close the doors. Satisfied with how she tamed and befriended the "violent" Gronckle dragon, she turned to find the Viking teens and Gobber still looking at her in stunned shock, their jaws dropping along the ground still.
"Nothing to it," she smiled simply yet causally.
Gobber went over to Hiccup, feeling sympathetic for him given that this was his first test on his first day. "You'll get another chance, Hiccup, don't you worry. Remember, dragons like that Gronckle will always... Always go for the kill," he told him gently, patting his shoulder.
This garnered an eye roll from Sarah, feeling that Gobber isn't catching on to what she was alluding to when she tamed the Gronckle. "Yeah, a myth that I've managed to bust with the Gronckle from earlier," she remarked a little bitterly.
"Oh, yeah? How would you of all people know about how a dragon should act or behave?" questioned Astrid, feeling suspicious as she heard her remark towards Gobber's words. "You don't even know what we've been through and what we Vikings had to deal with that makes them a threat!"
"You'll find out if you're worthy enough to know the truth about them," the princess told Astrid, looking her dead in the eye. "And, a word of advice - the way you ditched Hiccup when he was about to become that Gronckle's dinner, not cool. You want to be a real Viking, exercise teamwork and compassion."
"How would you know how we're supposed to fight?"
"I've been training for a year with some friends of mine and we've never let each other down, more than you'll ever know. Try helping Hiccup and Zenna every now and then."
Leaving Astrid speechless with that blunt remark of hers, Sarah finally took it upon herself to take her leave out of Berk after deciding to return the following day for her next day of training with the Vikings, leaving Gobber and his trainees with a lot to think about. Amazed and curious about what she had said to their peers, Hiccup and Zenna followed her out of the arena and into the forest.
They eventually returned to and went past the male Night Fury's crash site, finding the remains of Hiccup's bola still there. All the while, the memories of their setting the male wild Night Fury free and crossing paths with his supposed mate continued to race in the Viking underdogs' heads along with Sarah's handling of the Gronckle and her rebuttals towards Astrid.
"So, why didn't you two...?" Hiccup pondered thoughtfully, wondering why the Night Furies didn't kill him and his best friend while they had the chance.
"Sarah, that was beyond epic! Never in the name of Thor have I ever seen someone actually tame a dragon including that Gronckle!" exclaimed Zenna, still lost in her shock and amazement at the little princess. "How did you manage to do that? Nobody's ever managed to tame a dragon and live to tell about it!"
"Okay, yeah, I totally get that! But, still, that was crazy!" agreed Hiccup, listening in on Zenna's baffling words as he looked to Sarah in his own disbelief. "You looked completely calm and cool, the dragon was mean and nasty, you managed to tame it with ease and become friends with it? It didn't even know you! What was that all about?"
Sarah looked around the forest and the path leading to the cove to make sure that they weren't being followed and eavesdropped on. If Astrid and the others found out about her secret and why she and her family were really on Berk, it would be a disaster for everybody. So, she decided to trust Zenna and Hiccup, and only them, with the truth.
"Well, let's just say... I have a unique way with dragons," she answered.
Finding Sarah's answer to be dubious, at best, and still curious as to what she meant by that and from her previous action with the wild Gronckle, they quickly followed her down the path she was heading on. But, the path turned out to be the same one the wild Night Furies from before had taken after Hiccup and Zenna released the male Night Fury and he and his mate took their leave. The trio soon arrived at the cove where Sarah and her family were residing and to the absolute shock, awe, amazement, and surprise of Hiccup and Zenna, they saw her family comprised of Pokemon and her dragons including Winter (who was resting with Shadow as Dart, Pouncer, and Ruffrunner played nearby on the lake) while Sarah went to see them.
"Hiccup, do you see what I see?" gasped Zenna, blinking in shock and awe. "Those strange creatures and those things with them, they're actually real dragons!"
"Holy Merlin!" the scrawny Viking balked, seeing the dragons interact with Sarah's Pokemon. "Sarah's been taking care of dragons right under our noses, that explains why she became friends with the Gronckle back in the arena!"
The two underdog Vikings then noticed what looked to be black dragon scales on the ground, causing Hiccup to pick one up and examine it. But then, a black blur suddenly shot up to the sky in front of them, startling Hiccup and Zenna as they fell back with a frightened yelp which is actually the male Night Fury that they once shot down. However, they soon noticed that when the male Night Fury tried to fly out of the cove, he just soared over the pond before he crashed into the ground.
With the wild male Night Fury was the female Night Fury that confronted Zenna as well after finding her mate as she looked on worriedly at him failing to fly, the two of them having made their temporary home in another part of the cove after their confrontation with Zenna and Hiccup.
The two of them carefully climbed down the ridge bordering the cove and once they found a spot at the edge of the pond, stopping a few times to observe the male Striker Class dragon they shot down as he attempted to fly away, failing each time as he was missing a tail fin on the end of his tail. His Night Fury mate continued to look on worriedly at him as he gets more and more frustrated and broken by his inability to fly just as Hiccup took out a journal he had taken with him prior to joining Zenna and Sarah into the forest and began to sketch the dragons.
"Why don't you just...fly away?" he pondered as he sketched.
The male Night Fury eventually fired a blue plasma ball out of complete frustration, his inability to fly away getting through to him as his mate tried her best to calm him down. In the heat of the moment between them, Zenna noticed the lost tail fin on the left end of the male dragon's tail and saw that the female had both of her tail fins on her, which made her feel even more guilty about her and Hiccup shooting her mate down.
"Hiccup, look at the end of his tail," she noted, pointing to the end of the male Night Fury's tail and helped him see his left tail fin missing. "He can't fly away with her anymore because of us."
Hiccup noticed this and looking back at his sketch of the male Night Fury, he erased the left tail fin off of it. The two of them continued to watch as the male Night Fury tried one last time to fly away after warbling angrily at his mate that he has to keep trying to fly away despite missing a tail fin but all he did was once again crash onto the ground near the lake. As the male Night Fury felt like giving up now while his mate joined her to comfort him, he suddenly saw some fish swimming in the lake and his stomach rumbled, making him blush in embarrassment while the female dragon laughed at him with a warble. Then, he popped his head inside the lake, hoping to catch any fish that comes to him and his mate so they can eat.
But, as he fished, the Night Fury discovered that the fish were too fast for him underwater and they swam out of range before he gave a small pout, making his mate giggle at him. Vaporeon, however, noticed the Night Fury couple from her family's spot on the cove and saw that he was trying and failing to get a meal. Knowing that they needed help, she jumped into the lake, followed one of the fish, and then, she managed to grab it as it jumped up to escape her. This got the two dragons' attention as well as Zenna and Hiccup as they looked on in surprise at the Bubble Jet Pokemon swimming to the Night Furies' side before dropping off the fish on their end with a smile.
Then, with a thankful warble from the surprised yet grateful Striker Class dragon couple, Vaporeon chirped happily before waving to them and returning to her family, the sight of it leaving the Viking underdogs in complete awe.
Not only did they now see that Sarah had both dragons and Pokemon (the latter clearly a big question mark on them since they and their fellow Vikings have never seen them before), they were also able to find out that the dragons were not really heartless monsters as they were brought up to think about. And, this completely compounded what their people thought about the creatures and confirmed what they saw from the two Night Fury dragons the previous night.
Just by seeing Sarah tame the female Gronckle and treat her like a domestic pet puppy and how the Night Furies were getting on with each other, their viewpoint on dragons changed forever; dragons have emotions and feelings as humans do, they can have mates and react as any normal human couple would, they have reasons for acting the way they did (Case and Point - not being able to fly with a lost tail fin for the male Night Fury), whenever they're not around humans and stealing from human civilizations, they live out their lives peacefully, the lot. It's as if everything they once thought about the dragons is now all a lie.
The two of them were so entranced by what they had witnessed that they had forgotten to keep quiet so they wouldn't disturb them, Hiccup accidentally losing his pencil and the two of them frantically trying to grab it before it landed in the cove.
The small sound the pencil made from its landing suddenly caught the two dragons' attention after they finished their dinner, the two pairs staring curiously and in surprise at each other. None of them knew what to say or do as they waited for who would make the first move but the Night Furies weren't the only ones to see the Zenna and Hiccup again.
On their side of the cove, Sarah's family (who were watching the Night Furies as the male dragon tried to take off but constantly fail due to his lost left tail fin with the female comforting him each time) found the Viking underdogs as well. The two of them also looked at them in surprise, now unsure of what to say or do in the prying eyes of two groups that they weren't expecting to meet again and in the full, peaceful flesh.
"We know you're there, guys. You can come down now," Sarah called as she appeared in the Pokemon/dragon sea of a family she has with Tsukumaro and Solar beside her.
Hiccup and Zenna looked at each other and nodded after a quick debate, deciding to finally see her family while the wild Night Furies looked on in shock and surprise to see other dragons, besides them, living in the small cove, particularly Winter and Shadow. They also remained in stunned silence as they saw Sarah's Pokemon and the sheer number of them she has with her including the Vaporeon that helped them get their fish.
"So, are these the two Vikings you've protected and befriended last night, Sarah?" replied Zorro thoughtfully as he looked over the nervous duo, scratching his chin.
"That's them," confirmed Sarah.
"Sir Hiccup, Ms. Zenna, good to see you again. I trust things have been going well with you despite your little conundrum?" greeted Tsukumaro warmly.
"Conundrum?" blinked Zenna in confusion.
"Your being unable to kill the male Night Fury and you getting strung up on Viking training?" Sarah clarified, surprising the two.
"How did you know about that?" breathed Hiccup.
"A little bird of mine told us what had happened between you and Stoick last night. I'm sorry he got you to accept your previous wish at the worst possible time and right after you decided not to kill the male Night Fury from last night, too. Your parents had you do Viking training against your new wishes, too, Zenna."
Zenna sighed, remembering the same conversation she had with her parents before they joined Stoick to search for the Dragon's Nest. "Yeah, same story. I wasn't expecting them to do a complete 180 on me just as Stoick would for Hiccup. I tried to talk them out of it but they wouldn't listen," she replied.
"Guess we've gotten ourselves in a right old pickle this time and of the worst kind," nodded Hiccup before he looked at the dragons and Pokemon. "Anyway, you've had dragons with you all along? And, who are those guys?"
"Yeah, I've had them for a year now. Winter first came to my rescue while my family and friends and I were visiting the Kanto Region where we're from, the rest, they gradually came on from being trapped in an amber stone from a cave my godfather and his partner once lived in to more recently when we got reinforcements in dealing with a madman wanting one of my Pokemon and he tried to kill me to do it. My Pokemon, that's an even longer story if you're even up for it. Everyone, these are my new friends from Berk: Hiccup and Zenna."
The Pokemon and dragons (the two Vikings only hearing friendly warbles from them after remembering how out of place they were thanks to Sarah's story about them) all gave friendly greetings, the two Vikings being left amazed and fascinated to see all the dragons looking peacefully around Sarah. This also amazed and impressed the wild Night Furies as they looked on from their spot.
"I take it you kids have never seen most of the dragons here before?" chuckled Tsukumaro.
"Mm-hmm. You know, Sarah, I have to admit... We're honestly surprised to see how many dragons you have with you and how relaxed you are with them around you," smiled Zenna, nodding to Tsukumaro before she turned to the little princess.
Hiccup nodded as he gave a soft chuckle and rubbed the back of his head, "Yeah, we've seen Terrible Terrors, Gronckles, Monstrous Nightmares, Deadly Nadders, and Hideous Zipplebacks. But, never have we come face to face with Titan Wings, but still..."
He then looked to Silver, Whiplash, Starfire, Reignstorm, Inferno, Nova, Venom, Rosethorn, Melody, Echo, Twilight, Dawn, Hydro, Boulder, and Hurricane, saying, "We've never, ever come across dragons like those guys before."
Zenna nodded as she looked to Shovelhelm, Voltage, Winter, and the hatchlings. "Nor have we've ever seen those dragons including a Skrill up close," she added.
Sarah nodded as she smiled, seeing how impressed and amazed they were at seeing the wide array of dragons that she has on her and the ones they and their people supposedly personally have never seen before. Needless to say, when she and Tsukumaro got around to explaining the different species of her dragons and their varied strengths and weaknesses in battle, Hiccup and Zenna were in complete awe of what they had discovered from them by the time they've finished.
"That is insane! No wonder you've tamed the Gronckle like it was nothing but a little puppy!" breathed Zenna in fascination and admiration for Sarah.
"Now, that we know about your dragons, would you mind telling us about you...Pokemon, as you call them?" continued Hiccup, now more eager to know about the Pokemon half of their new friend's family.
Sarah nodded, feeling only too happy to oblige as she was now certain she could also trust Hiccup and Zenna with the basics and what she knew about the Pokemon from her own world.
Once again, as she and Tsukumaro had floored Hiccup and Zenna with the details on Pokemon along with their rarities, typings, and other known facts about them (with Rotom-Dex's help, of course), the royal duo had left them amazed and speechless by what they were told. They were even amazed about the idea of logging different kinds of Pokemon through a Pokedex like Rotom-Dex, being more amazed by the fact that he's a living Pokemon speaking to them through a piece of highly advanced technology.
"I never knew there were so many different Types of Pokemon, let alone over 800, in total," breathed Hiccup.
"And, I'm more amazed by the fact that you can keep records of them in a tiny electronic book like your Rotom-Dex guy," added Zenna, looking at Rotom-Dex.
"Why, thank you. It's my duty to find and log data of many kinds of Pokemon and learning about Sarah's dragons has been a fascinating learning curve for me," replied Rotom-Dex, smiling at the Viking underdogs.
"Granted, we only just got here but I've been doing some scouting and reconnaissance on the village and of this island and it really impressed me. Speaking of logging data and since I've forgotten, for example... Primarina, the Soloist Pokemon, and the evolved form of Brionne. A Water and Fairy Type, it controls the balloons that it makes through song and takes down its foes, singing beautiful melodies that have been passed down from one generation to the next."
"Whoa...!" gasped Zenna and Hiccup as Rotom-Dex scanned Aqua in her final form and showed them his Primarina entry.
"Okay, that is totally radical!" smiled Hiccup brightly, now even more convinced and excited.
"I'll say!" agreed Zenna before she got onto a touchy subject. "But, what's the deal with your dragons? How come they were all living with you while we've never known about them before."
Sarah blinked before she sighed; she was hoping to tread upon the truth about her dragons being with her lightly should either of them mention it.
"It's not pretty when I finally found out why they came here but Winter and the others did once used to live here long before Tsukumaro and I first met them. But, they had to leave and crossover into my world after dealing with what your fellow Vikings have done and what's more, a lot of bad nightmares and horrible memories of all the bloodshed and death from both sides, particularly for the dragons, was too much for them to handle. That was the tipping point that led to them coming to my world and meeting my godfather and I along with our Pokemon. The rest of the dragons came into the family on one occasion or another whether as a surprise or to show up to protect us from one threat after another."
"...That bad, huh?" blinked Zenna, starting to feel for Sarah and her dragons on the matter.
"Very bad. So much so, that they could no longer trust humans for a time until they crossed paths with my godfather and I, Winter when she first appeared to protect me while my friends, my family, and I are vising the Kanto Region where we're from and the rest in my home region, Alola, at one point or another given the circumstances. The aforementioned people, they were cool with after getting to know us. Vikings here, though, that's another story."
"No luck with them?" pitched in Hiccup.
"Yeah, they couldn't bother to trust them anymore until you two came along. And, that was right after I told them you freed the wild Male Night Fury last night and crossed paths with the female one who could be his mate."
Hiccup and Zenna were silent after that; none of them could find anything to say, how could they? The dragons under Sarah's wing had it rough, much worse than they had anticipated and the Vikings could ever know and they were starting to feel bad for them regarding their previous mindsets.
"We're sorry," Hiccup replied, Zenna nodding as he spoke on their behalf.
"But, why are you here, anyway? What did you come here for?" questioned Zenna curiously.
"We're here on account of the Berk Dragon Wars," answered Sarah. "A powerful friend of mine mentioned what was happening here so we came to Berk to end the war, once and for all, and find a way for dragons and humans to live in peace."
"End the Berk Dragon Wars?" the two Viking underdogs blinked in surprise before they looked at each other and directed their looks to the princess. "Bring peace to Vikings and dragons?"
"You mean, you're going to stop the wars between us and the dragons giving us grief from our own actions against them by any means necessary?"
"That's impossible, isn't it? Do you really think we can coexist with them?"
"Difficult but in my opinion, not impossible," replied Sarah. "If there's one thing you should know about me, of all people, I never quit on doing what I feel is right."
"And, you're planning to fight for the dragons should our village explode when they find out the truth and that you're in allegiance with them?" quizzed a worried Zenna, unsure of her motives.
"If they can't change their minds just as you guys had and they force my hand, then it'll have to be the case. Plus, it'll prove my dragons' point that they can't stop seeing their kind as a threat to Berk's humanity. I was skeptical at first but after seeing your people fighting them and how ruthless they really were, I'm now convinced otherwise. I just hope you understand if they don't give me any other choice."
"We understand, we're not really dragon killers given what we went through last night after hearing both your thoughts on the matter and everything you and your dragons went through," smiled Hiccup kindly and sympathetically. "You do know that if you're going to help us on that end, whenever you come to Berk, your family's going to have to stay here, right?"
"I know but I'm gonna have Rotom-Dex with me so he can check out what you're doing in Dragon Training with your peers and if there are any other dragons around," Sarah nodded, knowing where Hiccup is going.
"But, can you really convince our fellow Vikings including my parents, Hiccup's father, and Gobber to stop the Dragon Wars and actually get all of us to coexist with the dragons?" questioned Zenna one last time before she and Hiccup would have to return home.
"Everything's possible, even the impossible," replied Sarah simply with a reassuring smile and nod, getting convinced smiles out of her new friends.
That night, Sarah decided to join Hiccup and Zenna for dinner in the Great Hall while Tsukumaro decided to stay at their campsite and look after her family while she goes with them. It was raining by the time they arrived but having an umbrella she packed before coming to Berk on her, she was able to shield themselves from the hectic weather upon entering. When they arrived, they found Gobber and the other Viking teens discussing their training exercise with the Gronckle and Hiccup and Zenna's teacher was getting to Astrid's progress after going over the rest.
"Alright, everybody, where did Astrid go wrong in the ring today?" asked Gobber to his students.
"All that's happened is that I've mistimed my somersault dive. It was sloppy and it threw off my reverse-tumble," noted the teenage Viking girl, a little disgruntled and sour from her brief confrontation with Sarah earlier.
"Yeah, we noticed you were off on that," Ruffnut commented, making her grunt stubbornly.
"No, you were great! It was so 'Astrid'!" countered Snotlout, sounding like he has a crush on her.
"She's right, you just have to be tough on yourselves," nodded Gobber, knowing what they have to do.
Then, at that moment, the Viking teacher noticed Hiccup, Zenna, and Sarah returning for dinner as they sat down at a different table while noticing Stoick's son frowning. He could tell that he had told Sarah of his difficult upbringing and had managed to get a few things out of the way while the two girls offered him comfort.
"Where did Hiccup go wrong?" he then asked his other students.
"Duh, he showed up."
"He didn't get eaten, not once," suggested Ruffnut and Tuffnut, snorting.
"Hmph, says the dorks who got their bumpers roasted and kicked out within the first five minutes," remarked Sarah, rolling her eyes at them as she threw a taunting smirk at them. "Last I recall, Hiccup, Zenna, and I were amongst the last ones standing and much of you flopped the exercise."
"Okay, you made your point. What did he do wrong, then?" sniffed Snotlout haughtily, not taking kindly to her jab at him and the other teens.
"Isn't it obvious? He's nothing but a let-down of a Viking and he's never where he should be," spat Astrid before Sarah slammed one of her hands down on her, Zenna, and Hiccup's table and she got up to confront her again, startling everyone around her before Gobber could say anything.
"What's with you all putting down and badgering Hiccup when he and Zenna already had enough torture to last a lifetime?" she snapped, getting in her face.
"Why shouldn't I? You saw him, he's an embarrassment to us all and he couldn't even dodge that Gronckle's fire blasts before you butted in and treated it like it was your pet! And, we didn't even know you! What's more, why Zenna always hangs out with him never made sense to any of us since she's ten times the Viking that wimp could ever be."
"He's much better than you all will ever be because he'll have something worth living for to become the real Viking he's meant to be. The same can be said for Zenna and by the looks of it, your attitudes are the reason why they were feeling off and since they practically idolized you and your fellow Vikings, you turned them down and treated them like placemats on your doors. Sure, you might see them as nothing but a bunch of underdogs but if there's one thing I know about underdogs, they always rise above the top dogs in any way, shape, or form. And, you saying Hiccup's never where he should be? That's rich coming from you all, HA! You guys are nothing but a joke!"
Astrid seethed with fury after Sarah talked her down to her face, growling as she tried to make herself look threatening while the other teens and Gobber looked on in shock and growing worry, having never seen someone defend Hiccup and Zenna so adamantly and fiercely as she did. But, it was futile as Sarah just gave her lion snarl as her Lion DNA from Solar kicked in again, effectively making Astrid shut up and flinch with a twinge of fear (even if she didn't show it). Satisfied with the response she got and not wanting to deal with her anymore, the princess puffed out some smoke proudly as she felt like she made her point and returned to her original table with Hiccup and Zenna both feeling grateful and amazed for her defense of them.
"Thanks, Sarah, we needed that," smiled Zenna in relief.
"I never knew you were so confident in yourself for a girl of your age," remarked Hiccup in awe.
"It's not easy at first to accept who you are but once you embrace it, it becomes easier along the way," she replied as they got back to their dinner. "Believe me, I've learned that the hard way many times. And, anybody who might try to put you down, they're most likely jealous because you two have something you have that your peers don't so they try to take advantage of that."
Hiccup and Zenna just smiled as they continued to eat; this was the beginning of what was to be a lifelong friendship that cannot be broken. Gobber soon got over his shock and he just gave a warm, heartfelt smile at them, now feeling glad that Zenna and Hiccup have their first real friend and Sarah was proving herself to be invaluable to them in the long run.
But, as they now ate in peace and everybody went back to their usual business, back at their own table, the unnerved Viking teens now became suspicious of Sarah as they all narrowed their eyes directly at her. Something about her didn't sit right and they've never faced a girl like her before. Somehow, everything they've seen of her didn't add up.
"I don't like this, you guys. There are just too many question marks involving that girl and there's something going on with her," whispered Astrid as they got back to their own dinner while keeping their suspicious eyes on Sarah. "I can't help but wonder that there's something she's not telling us about herself. She must be hiding something given what we've seen from her from this morning, but what?"
"Isn't it obvious, Astrid? You saw what she did to that Gronckle when it tried to attack Hiccup," chuckled Tuffnut. "She made it act like an overgrown puppy when she called for it through a whistle and just by staring at her. And, given how she fights, I'd say she trumps you in terms of combat by a huge country mile."
"Nobody's ever managed to tame a dragon in the history of Viking kind as far as we know," added Ruffnut, not getting anything about Sarah herself. "But, what I don't get is why that Gronckle would go from being a bloodthirsty monster with us but turn docile and gentle the minute it turned its attention to her. It's like she's something of a Dragon Queen or Alpha or something."
"No way! How can a puny human, let alone a Viking, be considered a Dragon Queen if we haven't seen her control any more dragons besides that Gronckle by any means we know of?" Fishlegs rebutted skeptically, not buying Ruffnut's theory. "She must've had some sort of trick up her sleeve that allowed her to do it during the training exercise but even Gobber couldn't figure out how she was able to tame it."
"Think about it, Fishlegs! While we were winning against the dragons earlier, she and that giant white lion showed up and protected those dorks from the Monstrous Nightmare from out of nowhere. Then, she sticks up for them in our faces and Chief Stoick's without fear, and now, she's gone and turned dragons into fuzzy little draconic puppies!" Snotlout argued to Fishlegs. "There's something off with her if she was able to turn those menacing beasts into tamed pet rabbits."
"And, that's why I'm going to get to the bottom of it. While you guys carry on as normal, I'm gonna find out what she's up to and I'll tell you what I've found. Then, we'll all act accordingly from there," finished Astrid, the other Viking teens nodding in agreement to the plan she made just as Gobber came to the table after having gone off for a bit with a book at hand.
"For your next workout, you'll all need to live and breath this stuff," he reported, dropping the book for the trainees to see. "The Dragon Manual; everything that we need to know about dragons is all in here. Study it well and you'll know your enemies better before they know themselves."
A low rumble of thunder boomed from outside as the rain pelted down harder; a storm was brewing and it sounded like it'll go for practically the whole night. For Gobber, in the trainees' case, they'll have to do some late-night studying if they were to get far in their Viking training.
"No attacks tonight, I'm afraid. Study up," he finished before leaving for home, much to the Viking teens' dismay.
"What, read?" gawked Tuffnut in disbelief.
"While we're still alive?!" groaned his twin sister in agreement.
"Studying's boring! Why read words on a page when you could just get the fighting experience and kill the stuff the words often told you about?" grumbled Snotlout in annoyance, not looking forward to studying.
"And, what's wrong with studying?" remarked Sarah, throwing an incredulous stink eye at him. "If you can't know your enemies beforehand, you'll most likely be dead before you take your first steps towards it."
"Grrr... Shut up, will ya?!" snapped Snotlout, growling from her cutting remark as he prepared to leave.
"She's not wrong, I've read that thing, like, seven times," put in Fishlegs. "There's this dragon that sprays boiling water right in your face and there's this other one that buries your-"
"Uh, yeah, that sounds great. And, there's a chance I was gonna read that," Tuffnut replied.
"But, now..." went on Ruffnut, throwing her brother a bored look.
"Whatever, you guys read that junk. I'll just go kill stuff, much more fun than just boring myself to death with homework. Later," boasted Snotlout as he, Fishlegs, and the twins left.
This left Zenna, Astrid, Sarah, and Hiccup as the only ones left in the hall with the Dragon Manual waiting to be read. "Something tells me studying really isn't Snotlout, Ruffnut, and Tuffnut's forte," remarked Sarah, unimpressed.
"You have no idea how much they hate that since they're mainly doers, not thinkers," agreed Zenna with a sigh as Hiccup turned to Astrid.
"So, I guess we'll all share?" he requested to the remaining teen who simply shoved the book towards the trio and bluntly said, "Read it.", before leaving as Sarah threw her a nasty glare in annoyance.
"...Have they always been like that?" she asked, turning to Zenna and Hiccup.
"Always the same story with them and everyone else," nodded Hiccup, he and his best friend no longer bothered too much about it since they were used to the outcast treatment they were given.
"But, we don't mind them much now since we've become pretty much numb to it. But, it's just like you said, they're probably jealous of us since we have something they simply don't," added Zenna before she went over and gently nudged her best friend's shoulder knowingly. "Come on, Hic, let's get a headstart on our study session. They'll be pretty jealous once we show how much we've improved through our reading."
"Sounds good to me," nodded Sarah just as she brought out Rotom-Dex since it was now safe for him to join them. "What do you think, Rotom?"
"Sounds like fun. Whatever's in the book could be pretty handy, I'll need what's written here so we can compare what we've personally seen out of the dragons to what the Vikings know," he agreed knowingly. "We need to find out what's true about what they said about the dragons and what else they said about them are lies."
Hiccup nodded in agreement; it would do them some good to look up what the Vikings said about the dragons and get more insight as to what they really are through comparing and contrasting the notes they have with Sarah's experiences with them and what she knows about her own. He also knew that studying them more would give him and Zenna a leg-up on their peers since they would rather learn from experience than through the book.
As the dinner hubbub died down in the Great Hall and Sarah, Hiccup, Rotom-Dex, and Zenna are on their own, the male Viking underdog grabbed a candle with the torches blown out and Zenna grabbed a few spare matches for added light. Sitting together and with Rotom-Dex hovering above them as he activated his flashlight to give them a hand in seeing the Dragon Manual, they began to read more about the dragons the Vikings had logged onto it. No doubt it would be a long night of a study session but they knew their reviewing would be worth it in the long run.
"Dragon Classifications: Striker Class, Stoker Class, Mystery Class..." began Hiccup, turning to the first of the current dragon classes they're about to read of.
The first pages he and the others turned to for them to read involved a dragon called a Thunderdrum, reading aloud the dragon species while Rotom-Dex recorded and logged what Hiccup, Zenna, and Sarah are reading in his databanks to hone and update what he current knows about them and add more unknown species to his works. He was interested to see what is true or a lie about them according to the Vikings that wrote it.
"Thunderdrum: this reclusive dragon inhabits sea caves and dark tide pools. When startled, the Thunderdrum produces a concussive sound that can kill a man at close range. Extremely dangerous - kill on sight."
Zenna then looked to the next dragon following the Thunderdrum, "Timberjack: this gigantic creature has razor-sharp wings that can slice through fully-grown trees. Extremely dangerous - kill on sight."
"Scauldron: sprays scalding water at its victims - extremely dangerous. Changewing: even newly hatched dragons of this species can spray acid - kill on sight," continued Sarah, becoming even more disillusioned by the Vikings and their knowledge of the dragons.
As the quartet continued to read from the Dragon Manual, with Hiccup and Zenna now having gained a new insight into the dragons coupled with Sarah's interactions with them, what they all noticed is that every dragon in the Dragon Manual was labeled by the Vikings as "extremely dangerous". Sarah was shocked by what she was reading and upon reading the entries on the hatchlings and smaller dragons and seeing them being labeled the same, it infuriated her to no end. Even Rotom-Dex couldn't help but look on in increasing disgust by the Vikings demonizing every dragon recorded.
"Hmm, something's not right. Much of this whole book, while informational, is nothing but a big fat lie," pondered Rotom-Dex suspiciously, sharing Sarah's at the lies the Vikings told about the dragons in the Dragon Manual. "These Vikings are intentionally labeling every dragon recorded on here as extremely dangerous and are recommending that they are all killed on sight. Isn't it just in animal nature that animals don't kill unless they're forced to for their and their offsprings' survival or territory?"
"You're right, Rotom. My guess is that they don't even know the dragons one bit due to the war and their predatory nature striking fear and hatred for them," Sarah added, putting in her own two cents on the matter.
"But, why would they go so far as to demonize every single dragon when they're only doing what they could to survive because of us humans, Vikings, even?" pondered Zenna, not knowing what to think.
"Let's put that to the side and think about it later. We got some studying to wrap up before tomorrow," recommended Hiccup, getting knowing nods from them as they continued to read while the storm outside raged on.
"Gronckle, Zippleback, The Skrill, Boneknapper, Whispering Death," Hiccup continued while Sarah wrote down what is important and could be true as backup information in case Rotom-Dex is found out and kidnapped. "Burns its victims, buries its victims, chokes its victims, turns its victims inside-out. Extremely dangerous, extremely dangerous, kill on sight, kill on sight, kill on sight..."
"I don't like this, guys. Your people are ruthless and they're completely clueless about the dragons and their true nature. This whole manual is 1% factual about dragons but the other 99% of these notes is badmouthing these fascinating creatures," Rotom-Dex said to Zenna and Hiccup, examining the illustration of the dragons and their physiology. "But, thankfully, there's 0% information about Deathgrippers, Stormcutters, Triple Strykes, Tide Gliders, Windwalkers, Death Songs, Silthersongs, Shovelhelms, Dramillions, Razorwhips, Singetails, Light Furies, or Night Furies, so that's a bonus."
"Don't be so sure, Rotom," replied Zenna worriedly as she turned to a page involving the Night Fury of all dragons but with no illustration of it. "This is about the Night Fury - speed and size, both unknown. Known to Viking-kind as the unholy offspring of lightning and death itself. Do not engage this dragon. Your only chance - hide and pray it does not find you."
Rotom-Dex and Sarah groaned; out of all the dragons the Vikings have demonized, the Night Fury was given the worst treatment and perception by Hiccup and Zenna's people. They knew it was too good to be true given what they've found out and they could tell that their dragons' view on the Vikings was spot-on as they and the rest of her family were told.
"I can't believe those guys, they're making it sound like the Night Furies are the deadliest dragons around," Sarah seethed, holding her face in exasperation. "What's up with these guys?"
"Unlike you and Hiccup, Zenna, they have no respect for dragons, at all!" agreed Rotom-Dex.
"That's how it is, I'm afraid. Right now, they just don't understand..." sighed Zenna sadly, knowing it to be true given their people's viewpoint and society on dragons.
"You both know why the Night Furies are called that, Sarah, Rotom?" asked Hiccup after he took out the page he had drawn the wild male Night Fury from his notebook and placed it on top of the manual.
"Sure, as far as we could tell and after experimenting with Shadow's abilities, we found out that the Night Fury is capable of cloaking itself by drawing in lighting from the clouds and turning their scales reflective," explained Rotom-Dex. "They won't be shot down given their expert camouflage unless your people were given an indicator as to their current positions as you probably found out when you found the male Night Fury from before and shot him down."
Hiccup and Zenna were surprised by this. "Whoa...!" they breathed in awe again.
"Guess that explains the nickname of 'Offspring of Lightning' but I'll have to call total BS on this 'Offspring of Death' thing," Zenna put in thoughtfully as the storm continued to rage outside and her and Hiccup's minds returned to the wild Night Fury couple. "Hey, Hiccup, those Night Furies with Sarah's family at the cove. You think they'll be okay...?"
Hiccup shrugged as Sarah brought reassuring hands to their shoulders. "They'll be okay, guys. My family's with them so if they ever got to know them, they'll trust them given Shadow's also a Night Fury like them," she said to them.
Zenna nodded along with Hiccup in hopes that she was right but she gasped quietly in surprise as she could've sworn she saw the figure of her lost elder brother, Elias, through Sarah giving her the same reassuring look but with a small smile. She thought she was seeing things but shaking the image off of her mind, she just nodded to their new friend as they decided to call it a night, she and Hiccup parting ways with Sarah as they all returned to their respective homes.
The next day, Stoick and his fellow Vikings were in their boats as they traveled near a thick fog bank leading into Heliem's Gate where they believed the Dragon's Nest should be. They've been sailing for many miles and they haven't found any sign of it but hopefully, in their minds, they would be able to locate the dragons and chase them away from Berk.
"I can almost smell them, they're close..." stated the Viking Chief, keeping his eyes and ears open for them as he looked to his map and then the fog bank before he directed his fellow Vikings, "Take us in."
The Vikings nodded as they steered their ships into the fog bank. Everything was quiet for a moment as they all looked around with some of them having their weapons, cannons, and catapults at the ready but then, when they least expected it, they were soon attacked by a flock of dragons.
Back at Berk, with Rotom-Dex staying behind again to do more reconnaissance from a distance and tell her family everything the Vikings said about the dragons according to the Dragon Manual, the arena was completely transformed into a large maze for the next part of the teens' training. The Viking teens and Sarah (having reunited with Hiccup and Zenna) were inside with their shields and weapons at hand, trying to survive a wild Deadly Nadder scouring the maze from the air (which was released by Gobber as he oversaw the latest exercise from outside the maze).
"Hey, you know I just happened to notice the book had nothing on Night Furies. Is there another book, a sequel? Or, maybe just a Night Fury pamphlet, if you catch my drift?" began Hiccup while he looked up at Gobber, just as a fireball burned through his ax blade.
"Focus, Hiccup, you're not even trying!" warned Gobber before he looked to everybody while Zenna's best friend was forced to run away from the Nadder. "Today's training is about attack; Nadders are agile dragons and light on their feet, your job is to be faster and much lighter on your feet compared to it!"
Fishlegs seem to have gotten the message as the Nadder spotted him and it began to fire poisonous spikes from its tail, the brainiac Viking teen screaming as he ran and used his shield to block the spikes from hitting him.
"I'm really starting to question your teaching methods!" he panicked.
"Look for its blind spot, every dragon has one that you should take advantage of. Find it, hide in it, and strike when you have the chance!"
Ruffnut and Tuffnut both ran together until they ended up running straight in front of the Deadly Nadder who couldn't see them well. "Do you even bathe?" asked Ruffnut, the twins moving to the left as they tried to stay within its blind spot.
"If you don't like it, then get your own blind spot!" Tuffnut snapped, nudging his sister away.
"How about I give you one?!" snapped Ruffnut back as she butted heads with him again.
This turned out to be a big mistake for both Tuffnut and Ruffnut as they caught the Nadder's attention, making them realize they had moved out of its blind spot before they were forced to run, screaming as it fired a stream of magnesium fire at them.
"Blind spot, yes. Deaf spots, not so much," noted Gobber.
Soon, everyone was forced to run but Hiccup stopped to look at Gobber for more questioning about the Night Furies. "Hey, Gobber, how exactly would one sneak up on a Night Fury?" he questioned curiously.
"Even if they did, nobody's ever lived to tell the tale. Now, go!" Gobber ordered, pointing away and having Hiccup continue running but not without Sarah throwing an angry stink-eye at him.
"Really? What am I, chopped liver? I've lived to tell the tale and Night Furies are not as bad as you Vikings think," she thought as she continued her Viking training with Zenna and Hiccup.
"I know, I know! But, hypothetically-" Hiccup continued before he was cut off by Astrid, she, Zenna, and Snotlout kneeling down behind a wooden wall for protection with their shields at hand.
"Hiccup, get down!" she hissed quietly.
Astrid carefully turned and took a peek from the corner of the wall to see the Nadder creeping closer. None of them moved as they prepared to bolt once its attention was not on them with Sarah standing by and preparing to step in from her own spot she found and hid in if needed with her Moon Shield at the ready. Once it had turned its attention away from the remaining three Vikings, Zenna, Astrid, and Snotlout rolled over quietly to the next wall but Hiccup failed when he was weighed down by his shield, alerting the dragon before it flew up and found the aforementioned trio.
"Watch out, babe! I'll take care of this," Snotlout told Astrid confidently, throwing his mace at the Deadly Nadder.
The mace missed the Nadder and all Snotlout got from Astrid was a searing glare from her, looking unimpressed as he tried to explain himself. "The sun was in my eyes, Astrid! It just threw off my aim!" he insisted before the Deadly Nadder shot its fire and forced them to run while he continued to ramble.
"What do you expect me to do, block out the sun?!"
With its targets in its mental sights, the Nadder charged at Astrid, the teenage Viking girl taking a sharp right as it crashed into one of the walls causing it to wreck the rest of the maze and everyone else ran. Sarah groaned from her spot as she facepalmed at Astrid, she was really starting to hate her for what she caused the Deadly Nadder to do. She then looked at Hiccup as he looked to Gobber again, praying that he'll have the sense to run.
"Has anyone ever seen one napping?" he quizzed again while the others ran.
"Hiccup, look out!" yelled Zenna, pointing behind him to see Astrid jumping over the walls as the Nadder continued to chase her before she soon noticed him.
"HICCUP!" Astrid screamed in bewilderment before falling and landing on top of the male Viking underdog, her ax stuck in his shield.
"Ooh, love on the battlefield!"
"She could do way better than that!" laughed the twins as they watched.
Quickly picking herself up from the fall and ignoring the twins' reaction along with Hiccup's blush, Astrid saw the Deadly Nadder as it came towards them but before she could make another move, Sarah popped out from her hiding spot and quickly came between the trio. She spread out her arms to shield the two herself as she eyed the dragon, causing the Deadly Nadder to gasp and blink in surprise, skidding to a stop before it came face to face with her.
"W-Who are you?" it gasped in a female voice like with the female Gronckle the previous day.
Sarah just gently approached the Nadder and proceeded to soothe her, making it purr under her touch as she rubbed her snout. "That's it, it's okay. Nobody's going to hurt you," she cooed as the Viking teens and Gobber stood in shock and their jaws dropped again.
This was the second time Sarah had confronted, soothed, and tamed a dragon they only saw as a menacing beast. Even though Zenna and Hiccup looked on in amazement at their new friend for accomplishing such a feat in their minds, Astrid and the rest of the Viking teens along with Gobber still didn't know what to make of it. This also infuriated the Viking girl, unable to accept what she was seeing with her previous suspicions about Sarah confirmed, marching angrily up to her as she gently shooed the now-peaceful Nadder away.
"Is this some kind of joke to you?! Our parents' war is about to become ours," she snapped, threateningly pointing her ax at the princess. "Figure out which side you and Hiccup are on!"
"I'm on nobody's side and who's to say I have to choose who's right and who's wrong?" she scoffed, throwing back her own glare.
"Are you deaf?! Everyone! It's that simple, either you're with us or you're our enemy in this war."
"I'm not choosing sides until I get the full truth about the Vikings and the dragons! War is complicated and nothing is as black and white as you might think, it's a million shades of grey! I'm surprised you didn't even know that!"
"You couldn't possibly know what it's like for all of us on this island, having to survive dragon attack after dragon attack and having to deal with the very monsters that killed hundreds of our people!"
"I've had to deal with my own fair share of death and pain more than you could ever imagine but do you really think your need for your own survival justifies killing thousands of dragons when you haven't realized that they've been suffering for as much as you all have?"
"It has everything to do with our need to live on and to keep our people safe! Killing dragons is the only way we know how to deal with them if only to ensure that our people will be around to see another day!"
"Your impulsive and prideful arrogance coupled with your lack of empathy is going to get you all killed! You really do have no empathy or compassion for anybody else along with those dragons and that's blinding you and your judgment of dragons and your fellow vikings, I can't believe you! You're literally amogst the worst of the worse people I've ever had the displeasure to meet, a completely homicidal dragon-killing manslayer!"
The Vikings gathered all gasped in shock from the heated exchange between Astrid and Sarah but it was the latter's rebuttal that left them stunned. That was the last straw for Astrid as she gave into her anger and with a rage-filled battle cry, she charged at the princess with her ax.
"ASTRID, NO!" screamed Zenna, horrified by what she's doing.
But, turning towards the battle cry and seeing what's happening, the Deadly Nadder gasped and snarled before she darted back to Sarah and got between the two girls and knocked Astrid to the arena walls with a hard tail whip, shielding her while giving the little princess a death glare. This valiant act by the dragon further shocked the other Viking teens while Hiccup and Zenna were once again amazed by this; none of them were prepared to see a dragon protecting Sarah from Astrid.
"What...?" breathed Sarah, surprised.
Picking herself up and getting her ax back, Astrid snarled as she glared at Sarah with a seething hatred that now surpassed her previous annoyance with Hiccup and Zenna. Frankly, she had all but snapped and she wasn't going to take the princess' badmouthing her and her people over their fears of dragons and their exaggerated reasons for wanting to kill them anymore.
"THAT'S IT, KID! YOU'RE GONNA REGRET THAT!" she bellowed, letting out another battle cry as she raised her ax to cut her down along with the Deadly Nadder.
The Deadly Nadder, however, narrowed her eyes as she stood firmly in front of Sarah, pointed her tail spikes at the charging Astrid, and then...
"Spine shot!" cried Sarah out of impulse, the Deadly Nadder responding immediately as she readied her spikes.
Then, when she came into range, the Nadder shot them at the rage-filled Viking girl and effectively disarmed her as well as pinned her to the wall without killing her as the little princess hoped. Seeing Astrid trapped shocked the Vikings and Gobber (sans Hiccup and Astrid) for a third time and even the village elder known as Gothi. The elder was making her way to the arena to see how the trainees were getting on but she was taken aback by the Deadly Nadder darting forward to protect Sarah from Astrid when she tried to cut her down in her hate-filled rampage. She was also stunned by this and she was unsure out to respond as the Nadder turned towards Sarah and cooed before she began nuzzling her, making her giggle, further surprising her.
"GAH! URGH! UGH!" grunted Astrid, trying and failing to break free from the spikes pinning her to the walls. "Why, you little-!"
She was soon stopped almost immediately when Sarah pointed her unsheathed Sun Sword at neck point, the little princess glaring straight at her and daring her to try to escape and test her patience. At this point, she wasn't going to stand for her nonsense anymore and was growing exhausted over dealing her.
"I'm a very patient girl, Astrid. But, if there's one thing I can't stand about you Vikings now, it's your relentless and unjustified hatred for dragons that were forced to die because your people threw the first punch that got the ball rolling," she growled, her glare not breaking. "I'll spare you this time. But, next time, only one of us walks away."
Sheathing her sword and leading the now-friendly Nadder back to her cage and closing the doors (but not without one final friendly nuzzle from the female dragon), Sarah left the arena to cool off and get Astrid's words out of her mind. Worried for Sarah after seeing their fellow Viking (and Hiccup's crush) nearly sign her death warrant after making her mad, they decided that it was time for them to leave as well and they hurried after her to check on the Night Furies back in the cove. Gothi saw the two Viking underdogs running after her and she was also intrigued by this before she decided to leave and ponder on the change they went through as well as their first real friend.
The other Vikings were left stunned and absolutely speechless by what they had seen again just as Gobber went over to Astrid to free her from her makeshift prison.
"What the heck was that all about?!" exclaimed a shocked Snotlout.
"I can't believe it! Sarah turned the Nadder into another pet dragon party and she insulted Astrid to her face, rebuffing what we know about the dragons."
"And, she got it to protect her from Astrid when she tried to pummel her," added Tuffnut and Ruffnut, both of them still reeling.
"I don't get it, I've never seen any dragons acting like that before. They were usually monstrous beings with us fighting them," pondered Fishlegs, trying to wrap his head around Sarah's behavior with the Gronckle and Nadder. "First, the Gronckle, and now, the Nadder. What's going on?"
"Who cares? I'll make sure she regrets messing with me if it's the last thing I ever do," snarled Astrid after Gobber helped her down, seething.
In the forest leading up to Raven Point, Hiccup and Zenna managed to catch up to Sarah. They can clearly see that Astrid's one-track mind involving the dragons and what their fate should be by the Vikings' hands really annoyed her to a tee and they were worried over her potentially jeopardizing her own mission after getting into that fight with their fellow trainee.
"Sarah! Hey, Sarah, wait up!" called Zenna as they reached her.
"Hey, you okay? You looked like you're about to blow up like an active volcano but, uh..." Hiccup began but trailed off, not knowing how to put it gently.
"Yeah... I'm sorry," she sighed, a sad frown on her face. "I hoped you didn't have to see that but Astrid was really getting to me with everything she said."
"We know, you won't let anyone stand in the way of that. But, we're really worried for you," replied Zenna, placing a reassuring yet concerned hand on her right shoulder. "Nobody's ever stood up to Astrid like that before and you've somehow gotten the Nadder to protect you from her, she's bound to catch on any minute now. You know everybody's gonna be suspicious of you sooner or later, right?"
"Yeah, and... Uh, about that tippet, you know... About, well, about you having your own fair share of death?" continued Hiccup, feeling worried still. "Well, I mean, you don't have to answer. I guess, we're, just... Curious, if you know what we mean."
"Hey, don't worry. I was going to tell you two later once you're ready but I guess there's no time like the present since you caught on..."
On the way back to the cove, Sarah explained to Hiccup and Zenna about her personal history and what had happened to her birth family from when Lothor tried to sell her off to be killed when she was two weeks old to being sent to the future and adopted by Nikki and James before her birth parents left to end the Ultra Beast War. She even told them of her current war she's fighting against him along with her friends back in Alola.
When she finally finished telling them her backstory, the two Viking underdogs were left in yet another state of shock and surprise. However, they also felt a lingering twinge of horror and sympathy for the little princess for not only do they now know that she's the heir to the throne in her homeworld's kingdom but she was also the niece to a mad uncle of hers who's out for revenge against her. What Sarah went through long before she met them was something they wouldn't wish on themselves or anybody else, not even their own peers. To them, it was already bad enough for their people to fight against what they once thought as monsters in the dragons but when it comes to being forced to fight against your own family, that was different and something that made them even more nervous for her.
"Sarah... We're sorry, I-we had no idea," breathed Zenna sorrowfully. "That's why you've been training for a whole year."
"Not to mention, we now know why you're so strong and you have so many dragons and Pokemon with you," added Hiccup, stunned and sympathetic. "You and your friends were literally fighting your own war in your own home, you know exactly what we're all going through but at a much deeper scale."
"Yeah, now you know why I'm so adamant about ending the war and why my family and I are here. I have to finish Berk's endless cycle of pain and suffering so I can get closer to ending my own war with Lothor," Sarah replied with a sigh. "When we return home to keep fighting, I have to keep hope alive that my mom and dad are still alive. That's what I'm hoping for; I know they're still out there, I just haven't found another lead on them yet."
"Oh, yeah... You were an orphan and adopted... W-well, we're sure you'll find them, just d-don't give up hope while you're at it."
"Maybe you haven't been looking for those leads hard enough, right?" Zenna quipped.
"Thanks, guys. And, believe me, I'll find them. Without a doubt, it'll just, BAM, hit me, like lightning."
The Viking underdogs and the princess all laughed, forgetting about their worries for a moment; even now, Sarah was glad to have friends like Ash, Mallow, Kiawe, Sophocles, Lillie, Lana, and now, Hiccup and Zenna, who would be open to her and understand her troubles. She was glad that she was able to trust the two with her secrets and it doesn't look like she'll regret trusting the two with them anytime soon.
Later, as the evening started to roll along, Hiccup and Zenna were each holding a shield and a fish as they made their way back to the cove to check up on the wild Night Furies. They arrived at the cove and throwing the fishes to the other side, they tried to go in it with the shields at hand but they got stuck between two rocks as they entered so they had to go underneath to do so.
The pair scanned the cove for the Night Furies if they're still in the area but they only saw Sarah, Tsukumaro, her Pokemon family, his small Pokemon team, and their dragon companions, unaware that the dragons they're looking for were hiding behind two rock formations and watching them. They turned to look back and they gasped, seeing the Striker Class dragons coming around and stand in front of them.
Zenna and Hiccup held out the fish they brought to the Night Fury couple but while they went to take them, they suddenly growled as if they felt the presence of a dangerous weapon they both have on them which were some daggers they brought and holstered on the left sides of their belts. Realizing that they were threatened by the daggers, they carefully took them out and threw them away in the cove's lake.
At that moment, the two dragons' demeanor and body language did a complete 180, acting more like dogs as they curiously looked at the fishes in their hands (now being the only things besides the shields they have on them). They approached them to eat the fish as the Viking underdogs continued to hold them out, seeing them open their mouths and realizing they both have no teeth.
"Huh, toothless? I could've sworn you guys had-" Hiccup began before the Night Furies brought out their teeth into their gums then took the fish and ate them. "...Teeth."
"Huh, how about that? Retractable teeth," blinked a surprised Zenna, impressed.
While the Viking underdogs and the wild Striker Class dragons were having their moment, Sarah and her family were watching from their side of the cove as they prepared to settle down for their second night in Berk. Much of them were growing amused as they watched the two pairs start to interact more with one another, the dragons licking their satisfied chops from the fish they were given and staring at the underdogs, moving around them like cats.
"Uh, n-n-n-n-n-no, my best friend and I... I, We don't have anymore," Hiccup told them.
But, the Night Furies didn't want that as they regurgitated half of the fish they ate into his and Zenna's laps, surprising the two and their audience and slightly disgusting them over what the wild dragons did.
"YUCK!" the dragon hatchlings cried, sticking their tongues out at the sight.
"Oh, what?!"
"Arceus, help us..."
"Did they seriously just...?"
"Gross!"
"EW!" spluttered Kion, Totem Luxray, Zeraora, Keldeo, and Zorua, their sentiments shared by everybody else on their side.
"Please tell me that did not just happen..."
"That did happen, bro," groaned Spectrier and Glastrier.
"That's disgusting, ACK!" shrieked Sylveon.
"I'm just glad Shadow has better manners than they do," Goodra shuddered.
Hiccup and Zenna, still reeling from their disgust, looked at the fish pieces and they took note of the Night Fury couple looking between them and the fish. Tsukumaro chuckled, realizing what they wanted the Viking underdogs to do.
"I'm afraid they're asking you to eat them, kids!" he called, horrifying Zenna and Hiccup, the former gulping worriedly at the thought of them eating the regurgitated fish.
"O-Oh..." Hiccup stammered.
Hesitantly and while keeping an eye on the Night Fury couple eying them back, Hiccup and Zenna gingerly took the two fish halves in their hands and held them to their mouths, slowly taking a bite while trying to hold back their disgust. Their legs weren't pulled when the Viking underdogs tried to fool their way out so they urged them to seat the halves completely, which they did, leaving a majority of Sarah's family disgusted while a minority found some sense of humor in it as they laughed at their expense. This got the wild dragons to smile at them, the corners of their mouths slowly starting to raise and they formed toothless, gummy smiles as they returned Hiccup and Zenna's own smiles.
When they tried to touch them next and reached out their hands, the Night Furies gave a warning snarl and flew to the other side of the cove's lake a few meters away from them and their royal friend's family (the female coming from the air and the male falling to the ground yet again due to his missing tail fin). The two circled the ground and they let out some blue flames as they created a warm spot for themselves, lying down after settling into their current location. A bird chirped as they watched it fly off but they then saw Hiccup and Zenna looking at them with their legs crossed, straight in their faces. They gave the two a friendly wave but they just lowered their ear appendages and turned, their tails moved to their shared left side to hide their faces.
Curious, Hiccup tried to reach out to pet the male Night Fury again but they lifted their tails and looked at them, causing them to jump to their feet and walk away to join Sarah and her family in their campsite with the dragons going off in the other direction at the same time.
"Well, nobody said it would be easy to bond with a dragon. But, with you guys, that's a good start," chuckled Sarah in approval as they sat next to her and gave awkward smiles and blushes in return.
Dusk was coming in as the evening wore on and Sarah and her family were about to have dinner with Hiccup and Zenna joining as their guests, being introduced to human foods they and their fellow Vikings have never seen and could only dream about. The Night Fury couple was hanging upside down like bats from a tree branch as the two dragons then noticed Berk's Viking underdogs sitting on a rock together nearby, two branches in their hands as they drew aimlessly on the dirt. Even the Night Lights were getting an artistic sense when they took their own branches from the nearby trees on their family's end and drew whatever pictures they can think of on the dirt, getting amused smiles from their parents and everybody else.
Intrigued by Dart and her brothers' artistry along with Hiccup and Zenna's aimless drawing before they went over to another tree and broke two more branches with their mouths. Before long, the Night Furies began to draw on the ground as well, starting off with several lines in the dirt while they looked back towards Shadow and Winter's children, Zenna, and Hiccup while doing so.
Upon being done, they took a moment to admire their work, unknowingly getting the undivided attention of Sarah and her family as they became further amused by what they had done after watching Dart, Hiccup, Pouncer, Zenna, and Ruffrunner.
"What did they do?" asked Star.
"Huh, check it out. They must've picked it up from the Underdogs Two and the kids," remarked Silvally, impressed.
Hearing what Star and Silvally are relating to (even though they couldn't fluently hear Silvally's words), Zenna and Hiccup noticed the two Night Furies and they went over to the draconic pair but unintentionally stepping on one of the lines on their drawing.
This didn't go well with the dragons as they growled at them to get off. Thus, after seeing what they did and realizing their mistake, Zenna pulled Hiccup back as they got off the drawing, the dragons calming down as before.
Suddenly, curious as to what they've done and the changes in the Night Furies' behavior, the Viking underdogs decided to experiment with what they just found out about them. They stepped onto the lines and off of them a few times and they saw that while the Night Furies growled at them to back off, they became tame and domestic again whenever they stepped off of the lines. Then, they started to walk around the drawing, being very careful so as to not step on any of the lines as they found the areas outside of the lines being safe zones.
But, as they walked (or shimmied, actually) around the dirt drawings, they felt something from behind them to which they turned and found the Night Fury couple as they made a purring noise. Finally, trying to compose themselves as they looked on in surprise and awe, Zenna and Hiccup reached out their hands to pet them, the two dragons rearing back a bit with a low growl.
But, that all changed when they saw the two of them taking a slow, deep breath, bowed their heads to them, and closed their eyes as they kept their arms outstretched to them.
The two underdogs from Berk prepared for the worst as they kept their eyes shut and cringed as their hands made contact with them but they quickly opened them to see the two Night Furies pressing their snouts gently into their hands. They were stunned; it was a sign that they've earned their trust, the two dragons leaning back before they returned to their original spot on the other side of the cove.
"W-w-w-What happened?" breathed a stunned Hiccup.
"How...? How is it possible?" added Zenna, also at a loss for words.
Sarah joined them as she and Rotom-Dex smiled proudly at them, "You did it, you finally got them to trust you."
"Data update complete - Night Furies can only be approached peacefully through whatever safe zones are made from dirt drawings!" smiled Rotom-Dex. "If you keep this up, you might be the first ones in your world to ever conquer a dragon let alone tame them!"
Hiccup and Zenna looked at each other in surprise, then they looked over to the Night Furies and at each other again. Before long, they both began to smile; perhaps, Sarah's befriending of her dragons may work for them but in their own way and there is a way for the Berk Dragon Wars to end peacefully, after all.
Later that night, the Viking teens (sans Hiccup, Zenna, and Sarah as they were eating light after their previous meal together) were having a hefty dinner at one of the watchtowers with Gobber, telling everybody gathered how he had lost his arm and leg from a dragon attack he previously went through.
"And, with one twist, he took my hand and swallowed it whole. And, I saw the look on his face as he did, I was delicious. He must've passed the word 'round to his fellow dragons 'cause it wasn't long before one of them took my leg and only a month after I lost my hand," he explained.
"Isn't it weird that your hand was literally inside the mouth of a dragon? Like, if you're still able to control it..." Fishlegs quipped thoughtfully.
"Don't worry, Gobber! I swear I'll avenge both your beautiful hand and beautiful foot! I'll take down every last dragon I see within a five-mile radius, with my face!" proclaimed Snotlout arrogantly, trying and failing to impress Astrid as she scoffed at him.
"Uh-uh, that'll make you a dead man before you even have a chance to recover. If you really want to kill 'em, you'll have to do it by their wings and tails," Gobber rebutted to him. "If a dragon can't fly with its wings and tail fins out, it can't get away. As they always said, a downed dragon is a dead dragon."
"That would be the case unless a dragon you encounter is good at swimming, burrowing underground, camouflaging,... There are a lot of evasion techniques that dragons can learn and use in their own time to escape from a human's line of sight," remarked Sarah.
"Oh, yeah? You seemed to be a real know-it-all about those deadly lizards, huh?" scoffed Snotlout.
"I know much more than you do and it can't be helped since I've been researching them for much longer than you have," she replied simply with a casual shrug, further irritating the now-jealous and already-suspicious Astrid seething at her.
But, with Hiccup and Zenna, they were now worried; Gobber's previous words about how a downed dragon equals a dead dragon really made the Viking underdogs a little sick to their stomachs. But, Hiccup seemed to have taken it the worst in his mind compared to Zenna. To him, it meant that the wild male Night Fury's chances of survival are slim-to-none if he can't fly away with a handicap such as his lost left tail fin.
"Well, I'm off to bed. You should be, too," replied Gobber, preparing to leave for home. "Tomorrow, we'll be getting to the big boys until we make our way to the Monstrous Nightmare. But, who'll do us the honor of killing it by the end of it all?"
Sarah narrowed her eyes at Gobber, offended by the fact that one of the trainees including Hiccup and Zenna would have to kill the Monstrous Nightmare at the end of their training; she didn't want that and they wouldn't either after what they went through with the wild Night Furies. The others, however, were eager to see who would be the one to kill it, instead.
"No doubt it's gonna be me, it's my destiny, see?" bragged Tuffnut, showing off a mark on him.
"Your mom let you get a tattoo?" gasped Fishlegs.
"It's not a tattoo, you goombah! It's my family's birthmark!"
"Okay, I've been stuck with you since our birth and as far as I can tell, I don't remember that being there before," remarked Ruffnut doubtfully.
"Yes, it was! You just never saw me from the left side until now," he spat back.
Hiccup saw his chance as the others were talking so along with everyone else, he left the watchtower with his notebook at hand but he went off in a different direction, catching Zenna and Sarah's attention as they followed. Astrid noticed as well, and to her, this was strange.
After leaving the watchtower, Sarah and Zenna found Hiccup back at the blacksmith forge with his notebook opened to his illustration of the male Night Fury that he previously sketched, Zenna's best friend drawing a left tail fin on it. It was clear that he had hatched a plan in his hands and it had something to do with the drawing of the left tail fin as he got whatever materials he can find set.
Sarah cleared her throat just as he was about to begin, causing him to jump and notice the girls coming in to see him.
"O-Oh! Uh, girls, h-hey! You back already?" Hiccup stammered.
"No, you just up and went right after Gobber noted that we Vikings had to take the dragons by their wings and tail," replied Zenna.
"Let me guess, you still feel bad about you two taking that male Night Fury down by the tail and you want to make a new tail fin for him so he can fly easily again?" Sarah guessed, seeing what he's about to do.
"Well, yeah... It's just, uh... Since he's now a downed dragon, I want to make sure he still has an advantage if anybody wants to capture him and his mate."
"Need help?" smirked Zenna, wanting to pitch in, to which Hiccup nodded thankfully.
With her and Sarah's help, Hiccup got to work on creating a prosthetic tail fin for his newly-named Night Fury companion and the mate of Zenna's Night Fury (whom she christened - Stryka), Toothless. While the male underdog got to work on the tail fin, Sarah and Zenna gathered all the necessary materials needed to make it while making use of the old tools to create the components for his fin like the connecting rods and the fin base. The princess also walked the underdogs through an explanation of how a Night Fury's tail fin can be incorporated into flying which made things much easier. It took them several hours to create the fin for Toothless that they were hoping for but after sewing everything up with nearby several scraps of leather, they've finished the new tail fin by midnight and nodded to each other.
The next morning, as the dawn broke over Berk, Hiccup and Zenna returned to the cove very early with their tail fin for Toothless and two buckets of fish for him and Stryka, eager to test their gift for the male Night Fury. They and Sarah were able to get some sleep after finishing the fin before anybody noticed them being gone and working late at night and they couldn't wait to see if all of their hard work to get Toothless flying again would pay off.
"Hey, Toothless, I hope you and Stryka are hungry! We brought breakfast!" called Hiccup just as Sarah and her family woke up for breakfast and their third day in Berk.
The two underdog Vikings set the baskets down and they kicked them, revealing the contents inside for the two Night Furies to eat as the fish slid out. The Night fury couple came over from their resting spot and sniffed the fish but they could tell that despite how disgusting raw seafood is for humans, Hiccup and Zenna hoped that they'll like what they brought for them.
"Yeah, it's disgusting but you'll like it. We got some salmon, a touch of nice Icelandic cod, and one smoked eel," replied Zenna.
But, the word "eel" turned out to be a trigger word for the two Night Furies, and as such, Toothless and Stryka didn't take kindly to that as they backed away from the baskets and growled. Their reactions grew worse as Hiccup picked up the eels they've stuffed in their baskets and showed them to the Striker Class dragons, resulting in them going into a panic and roaring at them to throw the eels away.
"No, no, no, no, no, it's okay!" replied Hiccup, trying to soothe them.
"Hiccup, let me," replied Zenna, taking the eels and throwing them away, calming the Night Furies down as they sighed in relief to which she smiled sympathetically. "Yeah, we hate eels, too."
Sarah was watching them along with her dragons and younger Pokemon before she turned to the former group, hearing everything, "You guys hate eels?"
"Not big fans of them," replied Winter.
"I'd rather subject myself to mounds and mounds of salmon and getting a stomach ache from them rather than eat a stupid eel!" put in Dart.
"Me, too!" her brothers and the other hatchlings agreed.
"Yeah, just a little heads-up on that even though you knew that off the bat," nodded Dawn.
"EELS, YAY!" cheered Cantana, surprising the Night Furies, Hiccup, and Zenna as she fluttered over and ate the discarded eels.
"Most of us hate those things or have acquired tastes to food like that," explained Shadow to Toothless and Zenna, getting their attention. "But, for some dragons, especially for a Death Song like Cantana, they're a delicacy."
The wild Night Furies nodded slowly before they went back to eating the seafood they were given. Nodding to each other, Zenna fed the two dragons while Hiccup went on to put the new tail fin on Toothless but his mate looked on from her breakfast and she gave a sharp glare as if to warn him not to try anything cute or funny that could hurt him. That was until she was rubbed by her head by Stryka, looking down at her warmly.
"Hey, Stryka, it's okay. Hiccup just has a present for him," she told her.
Stryka blinked as she noticed the new tail fin in Hiccup's hands as he tried to attach it to Toothless' tail. His moving tail made it difficult for him to get it on the spot where his old fin used to be but he finally grabbed it and managed to put it in there just as his new friend finished the last of his own fish. Feeling like Hiccup was doing something to his tail as he stopped eating, he looked back and saw the new fin on his tail which left him surprised. With it on, he suddenly felt the urge to fly, opening his wings as Hiccup pondered while he looked over the new tail fin.
"Hmm, that's not too bad. It works," he mused thoughtfully.
But then, Zenna looked down and saw something that made her feel antsy and worried for him, "Uh, Hiccup...?"
"Yeah?" Hiccup asked her before... "WHOA!?"
"Holy Shields!" spluttered the female Berk underdog in bewilderment.
"Oh, man..."
"Too late," Sarah and Mai moaned.
Toothless quickly took off to test the new tail fin he had been given with Hiccup hanging on to his tail as he was dragged along for the ride. Feeling the urge to follow her mate, Stryka immediately took Zenna by her tunic's collar and hoisted her onto her back before she took off, making her scream as she held on for dear life from the speed she's going.
"SHIELDS!" she yelped as they drew alongside Toothless and Hiccup.
Sarah and her family watched in awe from below as the two Night Furies flew across the cove and over the pond, Toothless feeling exhilarated as he was flying once more and felt as if everything after he lost his left tail fin never happened. The male Night Fury belonging to Hiccup now felt free again and he felt like nothing could stop him now after being able to fly again through Hiccup's gift.
"No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no! AH!" Hiccup cried as he held onto his dragon's tail.
But, his flight soon began to falter as he soon dived towards the ground, making him yelp again as they threatened to crash as before, initiating a repeat of Hiccup and Zenna's previous actions on him before they befriended him and his mate.
"Hiccup, Toothless!" called Zenna in shock, Stryka roaring in horror at her mate diving down.
"They're falling!"
"They're gonna crash!" Mist and Spark cried in horror.
"Somebody, do something!" screamed Flora in a panic, seeing Toothless and Hiccup plummeting into the ground.
"Pull up, Mr. Hiccup! Pull up!"
"Your dragon's tail fin!"
"Use it, Mr. Hiccup, nya!" screamed Twilight and Skitty.
"Hiccup, remember the tail fin! Open it!" shouted Sarah, seeing them dropping closer to the ground.
"Look out!" cried Arctozolt, preparing for the crash.
Hearing Sarah and her family, Hiccup remembered the tail fin and opened it, allowing Toothless to regain some altitude and fly up.
"Oh, my! It-it's working!" he shouted, now ecstatic on the tail fin's success as Toothless flew back to the cove and the lake when he adjusted the tail fin again. "Yes, yes! We did it!"
"Oh, god, it worked!" laughed Zenna, her and Hiccup's cheers shared with Sarah and a majority of her family with some of them looking on with proud smiles.
Everything seemed like it went on without a hitch but Toothless saw Hiccup holding onto his tail and since he still didn't like him fully yet, he whipped him off as he plummeted into the lake while Stryka and Zenna landed safely on the ground. But, as he did, Toothless saw that his tail fin was closed again without Hiccup to adjust it so he crashed into the lake with his rider. Eventually, Hiccup resurfaced as a newfound determination and satisfaction filled him, despite being soaking wet.
"YEAH!" he cheered, pumping his fists in the air as Sarah came up and helped him out.
"It worked, we did it! Oh, Odin All-Father, the new tail fin worked!" hollered Zenna as she ran over and hugged Hiccup, despite getting wet herself and her hair being rumped by the wind and Stryka's speed.
"Well now, I guess the new tail fin worked perfectly," smiled Sarah, seeing how happy Toothless is as he got out and showed his mate his new tail fin, making her role her eyes and wiggle her tail back to amuse him.
"Are you kidding, that was incredible!" Hiccup shouted, still ecstatic.
"More than that, it was fantastic! Don't you get it, Hiccup? We actually rode on dragons!" exclaimed Zenna, still trying to take it all in as she laughed. "We, Berk's Viking underdogs and runts of the litter, did something no Viking has ever done before - WE RODE ON DRAGONS!"
The two underdogs held each other as they laughed happily while Sarah looked on with a happy smile; this new change was going to be good for them even though it meant keeping Stryka and Toothless under wraps from the other Vikings. But, it didn't matter, they were having the time of their lives.
On the way back to Berk, the three friends deducted that while Toothless can fly very well again, they'll need to make some slight adjustments to the tail fin so his flying will be as good as before he lost his tail fin. But, that wasn't all; after seeing Cantana eat the eels they threw away after noticing their Night Furies' disgust for them, they stopped by the market to buy two eels.
I don't know, Hiccup. Isn't this a little like cheating given what Cantana indirectly showed us? questioned Zenna, handing her best friend one of the eels as he hid it in his vest.
"It won't be cheating unless they find out, which they won't," replied Sarah as the female underdog slipped an eel inside her vest. "We'll keep them hidden in your vests so that way if the others get suspicious, they'll never know."
"Touche," nodded Zenna, unable to argue with that.
They returned to the arena for the next phase of Hiccup and Zenna's dragon training and for their third lesson with the other teens, each of them had a bucket of water on hand. The reason for their buckets was revealed instantly as the next dragon they have to face, the Hideous Zippleback, blasted its gate open and green smog started to fill the arena.
"Today, you will all learn how to use teamwork; a wet head can't light a fire," announced Gobber, once again overseeing the training session. "The Hideous Zippleback before you right now is tricky - one head breathes gas and the other lights it, your job is to figure out which head is which! Begin!"
Gobber moved away as the Viking teens and Sarah all got lost in the gas, keeping their eyes and ears open as they looked around for the Hideous Zippleback. The pair teams for the exercise are as follows: Snotlout and Tuffnut, Astrid and Ruffnut, Hiccup and Fishlegs, and Zenna and Sarah.
"Razor-sharp serrated teeth that inject venom for pre-digestion; prefers ambush attacks, crushing its victims-" rambled Fishlegs.
"Would you please stop that?" asked Hiccup, a little annoyed.
Snotlout and Tuffnut, on the other hand, were back-to-back as they listened for the Hideous Zippleback's growls. They were both eager to show the two-headed dragon who's boss but as of the moment, their "teamwork" was really showing given their egos and extreme eagerness to kill dragons and show off.
"If that dragon shows either of its faces, I'm gonna-there!" Snotlout shouted, pointing towards a two-headed figure in the gas,
The two Viking teens threw their buckets at what they thought would be the dragon but when they did and the gas cleared, they discovered that it was only a now-angry pair team of Astrid and Ruffnut as they gave seething glares at them, the two girls looking soaking wet.
"Hey, it's us, you chowder brains!" snapped Ruffnut. "What the hell in Slytherin's Beard was that for?!"
"It's not our fault your butts were getting bigger, we thought you were a dragon!" laughed Tuffnut.
"Not that there's anything wrong with a dragon-esque figure, really," added Snotlout.
That remark, however, earned him an angry punch to the face from Astrid while Ruffnut angrily threw her bucket at her brother, quickly knocking him hard into the ground. But, before he could move after his fall, he was suddenly pulled back into the mist and disappeared with only his helmet left behind.
"Wait!" gasped Astrid to Ruffnut.
But, the girls were then blind sighted by the Zippleback as its tail tripped them and knocked them to the ground, consequently causing Astrid's bucket to spill water onto the ground. Afterwards, Tuffnut was found running out of the gas and ran past them, Sarah, Zenna, Fishlegs, and Hiccup.
"Oh, I'm hurt! I'm very hurt, AAHH!" he screamed, looking very panicked.
"Chances for survival are dwindling to single digits now," mumbled Fishlegs.
"Tell us something we don't know, genius," remarked Zenna.
But then, one of the Hideous Zippleback's heads slithered out of the gas towards him, making him throw his bucket at it in panic only to realize...
"Oops, wrong head..." he peeped sheepishly.
The head he threw his water at turned out to be the head emitting gas and not the one that shoots fire as he got a face full of it from the annoyed head as it snorted by its nose. This was more than enough to send Fishlegs to even more of a panic than Tuffnut was as he ran away, screaming for his life. This also left Hiccup, Sarah, and Zenna as they only ones left as they faced the Zippleback as it slowly advanced towards them like a two-headed tiger having cornered its prey.
"Fishlegs!" cried Gobber to the panicked team but it was too late.
The Viking underdogs turned back as they saw the second head preparing to fire, Zenna deciding to join Hiccup as a last-minute pair team if they were to pass.
"Now, Hiccup, Zenna! Throw!" shouted Gobber, signaling them to use their water buckets.
They quickly threw the water they have on the Zippleback but the water from Hiccup sadly didn't reach it and the right head quickly extinguished the water from Zenna, smirking at her slyly as it chuckled, making the two look at each other with knowing looks.
"Oh, come on," they groaned.
Advancing on the two underdogs, the Hideous Zippleback roared and knocked the two into the ground as well, making them drop their buckets and causing Sarah to jump back. Surprisingly, she still had her bucket held tightly in her arms and still had some water in it despite spilling some as well. She was hoping she didn't have to use it if things got a little sticky and her friends don't remember the eels they still have on them. The two heads trailed gas and shot sparks as they got closer and closer, not noticing Hiccup and Zenna slipping their right hands into their vests.
"Hiccup, Zenna, look out!" yelled Gobber as he tried to step in, only to witness a shocking sight.
"Back, Zipple-boy! Back, back!"
"Back, we say! Back, back you go! Back!" commanded Zenna and Hiccup, the Zippleback immediately backing away from them in fear.
Everyone (sans a smirking Sarah) watched in shock and amazement to see Zenna and Hiccup commanding the dragon to back off as it cowered in fear of them. It turns out that they managed to pull out the eels from their vests and hold it out in front of the dragon to stop it. The dragon's heads roared, warbled, and screamed in panic and fear as they held the eels and it backed away, terrified of the eels as the two Viking underdogs got closer to it as they held out their wiggly sea creatures.
"That's it, back into your cage! Don't make us have to tell you again," Hiccup commanded again, getting the Zippleback back into its cage and throwing the eels inside, making it back up towards the wall in fear before the gates closed.
"Now, you stay in there and think about what you have done!" Zenna finished before she smirked and she and Hiccup shared a high-five.
Sarah chuckled at her friends knowingly as she watched the reactions from the other teens and Gobber. None of them had anything to say as their jaws dropped yet again but this time, in shock, awe, and amazement of Hiccup and Zenna's last-ditch effort; Hiccup and Zenna, the two underdogs of Berk's Vikings, the very people who haven't been able to down a dragon in their eyes had actually triumphed against a Hideous Zippleback in the most unexpected way possible. They were so shocked, even Fishlegs had to drop his bucket.
"Uh, okay. So, are we done? Because we've got things to do. Uh, yeah...… Yep! Well, uh... See you-see you all tomorrow, 'kay? Bye!" Hiccup flustered before he left the arena with Zenna and Sarah following him, leaving the group in shock.
There wasn't going to be another dragon training exercise for a few days since the teens need to review what they've done to think of how to improve their skills. This worked out well for Zenna and Hiccup as Sarah taught them everything she knew about the dragons from her godfather and her family's entire dragon half during that time in a short montage.
One night, Sarah was up and back at the blacksmith forge with Hiccup and Zenna as they created two new saddles for Toothless and Stryka, which they finished and brought over to them the following morning at the cove.
The two Night Furies toyed with their soon-to-be riders as they playfully ran away from them, making it like a game of Tag while the Viking underdogs tried to get them to stop and have them put the saddles on all while Sarah's family laughed at their expense from the crazy scene in front of them. When they finally did manage to get the saddles on, they proceeded to do a test flight for Toothless as Hiccup held a rope attached to the prosthetic tail fin so he can better control its position while flying.
The first test flight went on without a hitch but it ended horribly when he made one hard yank and fell off of the saddle as Toothless veered too hard to the right. On the other hand, Stryka and Zenna did a little better although the latter would have to adjust the saddle so it'll be a little tighter but not too tight so she doesn't choke.
They tried again the next day with Hiccup now wearing a brown harness clipped onto a ring attached to the saddle which they fitted the previous night. This time, he tied to rope around his foot but when he tried to pull it, the tail fin didn't move and he and Toothless ended up crashing into a field.
Tsukumaro, Rotom-Dex (observing the flight tests), and the girls quickly rushed over to them with Stryka following behind. They arrived at the field and when they saw him swatting away some of the large grass that broke his and Toothless' fall, they saw him rolling around in a large patch on it with a large smile on his face.
"Interesting, it appears that Toothless seems to be liking the grass you guys crashed into and I don't remember seeing this in the cove as we came in," blinked Rotom-Dex.
"What do you think it is?" quizzed Hiccup, picking up a piece of the grass and they examined it.
"No clue," replied Sarah, shaking her head.
"Well, at least someone's enjoying himself," remarked Zenna as she watched Toothless continue to roll happily on the large grass with Stryka coming to him before she's grabbed and they both rolled along as he held him, also getting her to laugh and warble happily as well.
"Heh, I might've known. It's called Dragon Nip and it's a very rare kind of grass that can make a dragon as docile as that," chuckled Tsukumaro, which gave Hiccup an idea as he rubbed his chin and looked at the Dragon Nip he has in his fingers.
The trio returned to the arena with some of the Dragon Nip as they went up against the female Gronckle again for their next training session with Gothi having arrived to once again see how the trainees were getting on while passing by. Particularly, she was intrigued when she heard the news of Hiccup and Zenna taming the Zippleback through their eels and was curious to see what else they've learned that could be useful against the dragons.
The Gronckle rammed past Tuffnut before she went straight towards Hiccup and Zenna (Sarah having stood back to allow them to deal with her this time), the two of them raising the Dragon Nip in front of her and making her stop dead in her tracks. They moved the Dragon Nip closer until they have it on her snout, making her roll happily and catching the attention of some of the Vikings and impressing Gothi.
Amazed by this, Snotlout, the twins, and Fishlegs all gathered around Hiccup and Zenna to ask how they were able to soothe and tame the Gronckle as they did but Astrid now grew suspicious of them as she narrowed her eyes. She didn't expect the two to succeed in their latest exercise as well as they did and they had some sort of trick up their sleeves.
But, when she looked to Sarah , she just said, "Yeah, Hiccup and Zenna, they have to help me make something. See ya."
Then, she led them away as they ran off for the blacksmith forge, making Astrid narrow her eyes again.
But, Sarah's excuse to them was a half-lie; in fact, she did ask them to help her make a sword she thought about in her head during the days leading up to their previous exercise with the Gronckle while she was teaching them her knowledge about the dragons. Together, with some blueprints she created featuring the new sword's dimensions and such, to which she dubbed it as The Dragon Blade, they made it as follows:
- The Blade: 25 inches in length, forged from Gronckle Iron and coated in a saliva mix from Sunflare and Venom for ignition with long-lasting flames for blinding enemies during battle
- The Guard: circular and embedded with gold jewels with an emblem of Winter in the center and a button for the blade's ignition on the right side
- The Pommel: silver and the bottom shaped like Shadow's head with a built-in ability to launch Deathgripper darts (darts she made from Twilight and Dawn's venom) from a button on the guard's left side
- The Hilt: contains a Hideous Zippleback gas canister for explosions only released on a second button below the blade button on the guard's right side
- The Sheath: white with emblems of Nebby and Nebula on the top and bottom slung on the right side of her waist.
Hiccup and Zenna were impressed and amazed with her forging skills as they worked tirelessly to make it along with her unsurpassed skills (in comparison to those from their people) of her creative usage of her dragons' abilities and their anatomy. They could only begin to imagine how much their people could learn from her and her family in using them and how much better fighters they can be if they fought, worked, and lived alongside the dragons instead of fighting against them.
Back in the cove, Hiccup and Zenna were getting their next private lesson on how to tame and befriend dragons as she rubbed the back of Winter's head and nubs, making her purr in delight from her rider's soothing touch. Once again, Hiccup and Zenna were impressed by what they saw from her.
"Dragons, once they're docile enough for you to approach, enjoy it when you scratch behind their ears or their necks," she explained before she then scratched under her chin, making Winter call to the ground and issue a dog's belly rub reflex. "If you want them to know that you're a friend and you don't mean them any harm, just do this after you got them to trust you. You can also scratch under their chins for the same effect."
The two tried it out on Stryka and Toothless and when they did, they both fell onto the ground and went to sleep as happy as they can be which got warm smiles as they rubbed their sleeping dragons.
Sarah's techniques proved useful the next day with their next training session with the Nadder (the princess standing back again to give them a second shot at the dragon). The other Vikings failed the exercise and Astrid threw her ax at the dragon from her hiding spot, the weapon bouncing off of her nasal horn as she resumed her charge. She got out of the way but Zenna and Hiccup just stood there peacefully and dropped their weapons, causing the Nadder to stop and sniff them curiously.
Astrid, seeing her chance, charged forward with a battle cry as she retrieved her ax and ran to the Nadder to cut her head off. But, Hiccup and Zenna saw Astrid coming and thinking quickly, Hiccup scratched the side of her face and under her chin gently, making her yelp and fall to the ground. This stunned the Viking girl again as she didn't know what to think again.
Her frustrations towards Sarah, Hiccup, and Zenna increased as everyone rushed towards them at their table to find out how they were able to deal with the Gronckle, making her slam her mug down on her table in aggravation and jealousy.
The trio went back to the cove the next day to make the adjustments needed on the saddles for Stryka and Toothless but they noticed them chasing the reflected sunlight bouncing off of the hammer with the Night Lights, Lilac, Tifu, Zuri, Cinder, Skitty, and Yamper.
"Meet the Terrible Terror!" announced Gobber.
Returning to the arena for their next training session, the trio and the other teens were ready to face one of the remaining dragons in the cell after dealing with the Zippleback, the Gronckle, and the Nadder. This time, they're to face off against a dragon known to Berk's Vikngs as the Terrible Terror. The cage opened but instead of the doors, a tiny flap was swung open near the base and crawling out of it to meet the Viking teens and Sarah was a small green Terrible Terror. The little dragon looked up innocently before it licked one of its eyes with its tiny tongue, the size of it causing all of the teens to laugh while Sarah kept her guard up and rolled her eyes, knowing how formidable even the most simple and tiniest dragons can be.
"HA! Seriously, this puny thing is a Terrible Terror?" laughed Tuffnut, finding it rather funny. "Look at it! It's almost like the size of my-!"
But, he didn't get to finish his sentence as the Terrible Terror (most likely insulted from being called "puny") jumped onto his face and bit his nose indignantly, causing the teens to run to the side with Sarah, Hiccup, and Zenna running to the large area covered in sunlight.
"AAAAH! AH, AH, AH! HELP, IT'S BITING ME! IT'S BITING ME, YAH! AH, GET IT OFF, GET IT OFF, GET IT OFF!" screamed Tuffnut in pain from the tiny dragon's powerful bite.
Seeing that they're in the sunlight, Zenna, Sarah, and Hiccup nodded as they used their shields' metal centers to reflect sunlight and get the Terrible Terror off of Tuffnut, luring it safely back into its cell to the continued astonishment of the village's Vikings.
"Wow, look at that! Those three are even better than you are," commented an amazed Tuffnut as he got up, leaving Astrid furious over the trio's success once again.
She just couldn't understand it; Hiccup and Zenna weren't the best at taming or defeating dragons given their backgrounds and their track records so what changed?
Later, with the teens' latest lesson done, Astrid was training hard in the forest throwing her axe into the trees and letting off some steam from her growing aggravation over Hiccup and Zenna's successes in dragon training and her confrontations with Sarah.
The Viking girl was absolutely infuriated as she continued to work herself to the bone, thinking about everything Hiccup and Zenna went through and what Sarah had done since she first arrived and became friends with them. Berk had obviously never seen a girl like her before and with how she first confronted the Monstrous Nightmare that nearly took down Zenna and Hiccup after they got themselves in trouble for the umpteenth time, she was already making a name for herself amongst the Vikings if the rumors were any indicator. There was no way they could fight dragons compared to everyone else but through her being their new friend, she was able to help them become more than just great Vikings, in ways she and the other teens can comprehend.
What made it worse for her is that she still couldn't understand how the dragons she and her fellow trainees went up against in the arena were able to be tamed and defeated by all three of them and become popular with everybody else for it. Each day of training brought with it another success for them since the village underdogs were able to beat the Zippleback with the eels and being considered the best instead of her through all of her hard work made her jealous of them to no end.
As she continued training and grabbed her ax after throwing it into a three for a third time, she rolled head over heels as she imagined her dragon opponent attacking before she stood up and saw, to her surprise and confusion, Hiccup and Zenna heading for the cove from the village with some materials in their hands (which are the supplies needed to maintain and fix Toothless' tail fin).
The two underdogs smiled nervously or whistled while looking away as they tried to look as casual as possible before they darted off behind a boulder. Astrid tried to pursue them but when she reached the boulder and looked over it, they were gone. She looked around in the foliage of the forest before she slammed her fist down on it in frustration, still unsure of what they were up to.
After they managed to lose Astrid and returned to the cove, Hiccup and Zenna reunited with Sarah and her family once again as they got to work completing the new gear system Hiccup had in mind for Toothless' new tail fin, this allowing him to finally control its positions in flight.
Dusk settled in once again as Hiccup and Toothless finally decided to test it out on a nearby cliff overlooking the ocean with Sarah, Winter, Zenna, and Stryka watching from below, the latter being tied to a tree stump as they worked to see if the fin can work, which it does as he opened it with one click of the left pedal while Toothless hovered.
"Not bad," nodded Sarah in approval.
The wind blew harder as the two tried again before it ultimately snapped which sent Toothless and his rider flying back and crashing into the grass again. He got up quickly, unaffected by the crash but then, Hiccup saw that one of the strings ended up being caught on the latch. Comically, this also caused him and Toothless to become stuck together just by that string on the latch.
"Oh, great," he groaned.
"Hey, I got this. Wait here," replied Sarah, quickly rushing over to Solar and detaching the Power Pack on him before reaching the duo and commanding, "Activate Tool Box."
Hearing her from its Voice Command feature, to Hiccup and Zenna's growing awe as they watched, the Power Pack opened to reveal a huge array of construction and building tools. With a small torch, the little princess went up to Hiccup and Toothless before she used its flame to create an opening for the ring so the string can be attached and detached. The two thought things couldn't be any better and they were increasingly being fully convinced that the dragons really didn't mean any harm but what they and everybody else didn't know was that along with their newfound respect for Toothless and Stryka along with the other dragons, Hiccup and Zenna would soon come to terms with both the truly ugly side of Berk Dragon Wars from their people's stubborn, hate-filled, and paranoid perspective and the next big truth about who's really to blame for them even starting. And, it'll all lead to something that'll be both terrifying and magnificent for them and everyone in all of Berk.
