Dreams of an ancient

Getting back from training that evening, Mokuba and Kaiba arrived back at their manor, the former feeling a bit sore from the sessions. After trouncing Joey, of course the blond had to challenge his brother to a one-on-one. And of course, Kaiba shrugged him off, telling him he wasn't worth his breath. Once more, the blond had to be restrained by Tristan as Mokuba took this time to recover. After a few more spars with Yugi, Yuri, and Spencer, the sun had finally set. The young one shed off his vest and hung it on the rack near the door and stretched a bit.

"Man, that felt great today, big brother. Yugi and Spencer really put up a fight," he spoke with a slightly tired yet content sigh.

Kaiba nodded to him and ruffled his raven locks, earning a laugh. "You're getting stronger every day. And I'm proud to see that. Sooner or later, you might even surpass me," he replied with his trademark confident smirk.

Mokuba rubbed the back of his head with an embarrassed snicker. "Nah, I could never go past you, Seto. You'll always be stronger in my eyes," he says with sincerity, causing Kaiba to kneel down and placed his hands on his shoulders, looking him in the eyes.

"I mean it, Mokuba. I've been watching your training ever since you started with Blue Eyes that night. You're growing by leaps and bounds and one day, you just may become the stronger of the two of us." Smiling softly, he pulled his sibling into a hug, in which was returned wholeheartedly. "Something tells me that one day, I won't be watching your back. YOU will be watching mine."

"I hope so, big brother. I want to make you proud and show you that I can handle myself on my own in a fight." As Mokuba looked up at him, a teary smile crossed his lips. "You always have been protecting me and I have never found a way to repay you... until that day when you saved my life and gave me magic. It's time I repaid all the times you were there for me," he spoke as the tears that welled up in his eyes spilled over before hugging him once more, burying his face into his shoulder.

Kaiba held him a bit tighter, his heart feeling like there was a slight vice grip on it. "To be honest, Mokie.." Mokuba perked a bit, hearing the nickname his big bro had not used in years. ".. You don't need to pay me back. It's all part of being your big brother. You're my only family and I would gladly give my life, if it meant saving yours," he spoke softly, rubbing his back.

"Seto..." The two just held each other in silence. It had been such a long time since the two shared a moment like this, where they can tell each other how they felt. For Mokuba, he was overjoyed to see the caring side of his brother; he had missed it so much, ever since they had been adopted by Gozaburo. Since then, his brother had become cold to the world, shutting away his heart. Only he could see beneath the ice. And gaining his own magical powers and earning Blue Eyes' power, the ice was slowly starting to chip away.

After ten or so minutes of holding each other, Mokuba pulled away first as Kaiba wiped his tears with his thumbs. "Don't ever forget, no matter what happens, I'll always protect you," said Kaiba.

"I know, big brother," Mokuba would nod before starting his way upstairs. "I'm going to rest in my room for awhile. My muscles ache a bit. Call me when it's dinner time."

"Alright. I'll be in my office," Kaiba nodded back before heading to the room ahead of him up the stairs. He still had some work to do, but it felt good to share a moment with his little brother. He felt that it was long overdue, due to all the projects he had been working on and not enough time to spend with his little sibling.

As Mokuba arrive in his room, he smiled to himself as he shed off his shoes. It was rare for the two to share their thoughts with each other. It felt good just to talk and be siblings, even if it was for a few moments. He hoped that one day, he could do more. For now, he would flop onto his bed and shut his eyes. Maybe a nap will help calm himself...

Mokuba found himself floating underwater over what seemed to be an endless dark abyss. He looked around yet saw nothing but endless blue all about him. Even when he gazed upwards, he could not see the surface. "Where am I?" he wondered to himself before looking back down to the dark below. Curiosity getting the best of him, he kicked downwards and began his descent.

At last... we meet... Mokuba Kaiba.

Mokuba halted suddenly as a pair of icy blue eyes stared back at him from the shadows. The voice was deep, yet had a soothing undertone to it. From the looks of it, the owner of them had to be HUGE! His own eyes widened in shock, unable to turn away and swim off. "Wha..! Who are you?" He called down.

The voice gave off a soft, yet rumbling chuckle.

There is no need to be frightened, young one. I have not come here to harm you. I only wish to speak to you.

The water user settled down, squashing down the fear he felt. For some reason, he felt the strange voice was telling the truth so he replied "Who are you? And how do you know my name?"

I.. am an ancient spirit that once lived over 6,000 years ago. I ruled the seas and those that dwelt within. Many stories had been told of me.. some good, and yet some claim that.. I was a monster.

"A monster..? Why would they call you a monster?" Mokuba asked him, furrowing his brow in curiosity.

The voice gave off a long sigh, which sent a large cloud of bubbles erupting upwards and bypassing Mokuba before vanishing out of sight.

I was once corrupted by powerful dark magic and used for a man's selfish desire to 'cleanse' the world and rebuild in his image. I did not want to hurt those I have come to care for. After I was defeated by a spirit as powerful as I, I was freed from the maniacal grip of whom held my power in his palm. With my power exhausted, I returned here and here, I have slumbered.. until you have awakened me.

"Awakened you? How did I do that?" Mokuba asked.

... During your underwater excursion, you picked up something that you thought was a large piece of a shell. Do you recall that?

Mokuba thought back to the day when he was out with Yugi and his friends at the beach. His mind traveled to the reef where he had picked up something: it was deep sea blue and almost looked like the shape of a fish scale, yet it was hard and smooth like any other shell. So he placed it in his bag to check out later when he got home. His eyes went wide before turning back to the figure below. "Yeah! I remember now! I was wondering what it was."

That is a piece of me that you have retrieved. When I was defeated, the crystal on my forehead was shattered into pieces of nine. Each shard contains bits of my power. Without the crystal, my power is severely limited. Hence why I am here, to preserve what is left of my strength and hope that one day, someone will find it and help retrieve the rest of the crystal.

"I see.. but you haven't told me your name yet. Who are you?" Mokuba nodded.

The voice once more was silent for a moment before speaking again. I will tell you my name. My name is-

"Mokuba!"

Mokuba's eyes shot open and he bolted upwards, his brother's voice waking him from his nap. "Y-Yeah?" he managed to say while trying to calm his rapidly beating heart.

"It's dinner time. Come on down," Kaiba said before his footsteps were heard leaving the door.

As Mokuba slid off the bed, he saw something glowing beneath his bed. Quickly diving under it, he grabbed the bag that still contained his shells and dug through until he found what the voice claimed he had: the shard was glimmering and once again, he heard that voice in his head.

We shall speak another time, Mokuba. For now, remember my name...
