AN: Here we go with the next chapter of Sea Spirit! Between work and sleeping, I barely had time to write so sorry for the long wait. And plus my muse for this story was low, so again I apologize.
One more for the team!
"So lemme get this straight: once again, we got a maniac who wants to destroy the world? And you guys are the only ones who can stop him?" Duke would ask the group, whom were now sitting around the living room in the Game Shop.
After the battle with Resheph and Susiros, they needed a rest. Quite frankly, they were getting sick and tired of dealing with the duo and to see Leviathan handle them so easily, it was a much needed relief. Duke had said nothing until they got to the living room of the shop, where Yami explained how they got their magic and how they have been using it to ward off any villains that threatened one of their own or their friends.
"Yup, dat's the gist of it. More specifically, Leviathan's de only one who can truly stop Chaos," Joey would nod to him.
"And he's living inside Mokuba?" Duke asked next, looking to the young Kaiba, who was resting his head on his brother's lap in a light doze.
"Only as a fragment of what he is. We need to collect his crystal shards in order for him to get his power back. If we don't, Chaos will devastate the realms and there will be no way to stop him," Yami replied.
"But where do you guys even start? They could be anywhere in the world at this point," Duke point out.
"Leviathan said he would do all he could to help us find them, but the rest, we may have to find on our own," Tea spoke. "Like Yami said, he only has a minor portion of his power, but he told us it's enough to find some of the hidden fragments."
This was a lot for Duke to take in; he had been bizarre situations with them before, like the time they were trapped in Noa's virtual world or the time of the Orichalcos cult led by Dartz. But this? This is a whole new level; they were talking of a different realm altogether, besides their own. And these gods granted them their powers and the gods were three well known Duel Monsters in this world. After a moment or two of silence from Duke, he would nod.
"So, what can I do to help? I know I don't have any powers, but I want to help in any way I can," he says as he stood to his feet, a look of determination in his jade eyes.
"Look Duke ol' pal, dis may get dangerous if ya not careful. You're not like us. Are ya sure ya want dis?" Joey asked, placing a hand on his shoulder and giving him a look that said 'Are you sure?'
"I've been with you guys every step of the way, even when things got ugly. I want to help. Just tell me what to do and I'll get it done somehow. Like you said, I don't have magic, but that won't stop me!" Duke nodded.
"Now that's the Duke we know! Alright, if you want to come with us, then welcome aboard," Tristan grinned, pumping a fist. Then... the scene shifted around them, actually making Mokuba finally awaken from his nap as Tristan then exclaimed "What the...!?" as their surroundings shifted to that of the throne room of the Duel Monsters realm. Waiting for them were said three gods: Blue Eyes, Dark Magician, and Flame Swordsman.
"That's exactly what we wanted to hear, Duke Devlin," Dark Magician said with a smile as Blue Eyes hovered over to the Kaibas, roaring softly in greetings, to which they wholeheartedly returned. He seemed worried especially for Mokuba, who grinned back and patted his snout.
"I'm okay, Blue Eyes," Mokuba says, getting a nod from the dragon, apparently satisfied for now with his answer before turning to Dark Magician, whom now Duke was staring with wide eyes.
"Duke Devlin... from what I have observed of you, you were at first against Yugi, blaming him for the disappearance of Pegasus." At this, Duke rubbed the back of his head, looking a bit ashamed at that. "However, since that time, you have redeemed yourself and gained a valuable friendship in him and the rest of his friends. Since then, you have been at their back, helping them when needed. That is one of the traits we look for in a guardian, especially when you wanted to help, despite being without magic. Your heart is in the right place and with your desire, we give you this." Raising his staff, Dark Magician summoned a glowing orb of garnet light.
"Wha... What is this?" Duke spoke in awe as he reached out to take it. As soon as he did, just like with Yugi and the others, he was starting to glow with the same light as the orb of magic. His entire being felt as if he were being wrapped with a warm blanket and he embraced it. He felt his core being filled to the brim with this new sensation.
"Duke, like your game style, you rely on luck and illusions to win your battles. So therefore, they shall become your strengths. May you use this power to help your friends and see to it that their mission is successful. May the Fortune Ladies grace you," Flame Swordsman proclaimed as the glowing finally stopped and Duke was looking up at them with a new kind of confidence.
"How da ya feel, buddy?" Joey asked.
"I feel... powerful! Like I can really take on the world!" Duke grinned as he punched a fist into his palm. "Watch out, Chaos! Duke Devlin is in town!"
"Now that's the Duke we know!" Tristan grinned before sharing a high five with his friend, excited that one more has joined her team. "Welcome to the team, buddy!"
"Aw yeah, our group just even more stronger!" Joey cheered while bro fisting the dice master next.
Even Yami nodded with an approving smile and shook his hand. "Indeed. Luck is a powerful thing to have on our side. And with illusion on top of it, you have obtained some powerful magic, indeed, Duke."
"I won't let you guys down, I swear it," Duke nodded back to him.
It warms my heart to see such a bond between friends. Everyone except Kaiba turned to Mokuba in surprise as the markings returned, signaling that Leviathan had once more possessed the young boy, who wore a smile of his own. Friendship and love have their own type of magic, especially shared amongst those who care for each other. Not even the strongest darkness can hope to cast its shadow upon it. I do hope that light continues to shine in all of you and together, we all stand a chance against Chaos. While we are all here, I have remembered something. Also scattered across the world are hidden temples that hold powerful magic, magic that can help yours grow and perhaps... evolve to their next stage.
"You mean our powers haven't fully matured as of yet?" Bakura asked, blinking in surprise.
No, young Bakura. Your magic and the ones of your friends are strong, indeed. But if we are truly stand a chance, not only will I need to be at full strength, but your powers must exceed where you stand in your level. I can tell you where each of you need to go...
Walking over to the computer in the room, Leviathan pressed in a few keys and each monitor displayed a location in the world and in the Duel Monster realm.
Each of these locations holds a temple where you can acquire your own magic. However it will not be easy. Of course inside them will be trials for all of you to face and they will test you physically, mentally and spiritually. Overcome them and the magic inside will be yours to claim. The first monitor would show the pyramids of Egypt as he turned to Yami.
Pharaoh, you must return to the place of your origins. This is where your trial will take place. You and your partner Yugi must work together to triumph. The Ishtar clan will be eagerly waiting for you. The monitor then turned to a place in New York City, specifically in Central Park.
Joey Wheeler, your trial will be found in New York City. Go to Central Park and look for my mark under the bridge. Once there, your trial will be held there. However you will not be alone. I have also sent for your sister, Serenity, to join you.
"My sista?!" Joey exclaimed, but he calmed himself and nodded. "A'right, it's official den. I'll take whateva comes my way!"
Leviathan nodded in approval before the monitor shifted next to the Kaiba Tower, which surprised the CEO. 'The Kaiba Corp. tower?! Why there?!' he thought wildly but his unsaid question would be answered as the sea god would answer.
Seto Kaiba, your trial will be held here. But like Joey and Yami, you will not be facing this alone. Your brother will be joining you as well. I can sense that not all of your ghosts have been put to rest... and I do hope with this trial, it will lay your demons to rest. However, for this test, I cannot interfere. Mokuba, for his part, can only rely on what he has been trained.
"My brother is going to be in this, too?!" Kaiba yelled in disbelief. This was going to put his little brother in even more danger?! What if they failed somehow?!
I wouldn't put you two up for it if I didn't know you'd be ready. I have faith in both of you to succeed Leviathan nodded to him and Kaiba reigned in his emotions and nodded, a steely look of determination in his cobalt blue eyes. He couldn't really refuse with the god living in his little brother. Nonetheless, he would do whatever it took to protect him. The next location would be displayed and it would show an abandoned mansion in Massachusetts. The sign then showed 'SALEM'.
Bakura, the spirit realm is vast and mankind has yet to understand the true depths of the afterlife. Your connection to the realm will be of great use in the upcoming battle against Chaos. You must head to the town of Salem, Massachusetts, for here is where the spirit realm concentrates the most, making it a perfect conduit for you to learn and become something more than a medium.
"Alright, I accept," Bakura nodded to him before the screen shifted to another location as Leviathan turned to Tea next. Destination: Los Angeles, California.
Young Tea, music can also be a powerful thing that connects humans together. And your talent and passion for the art combined with your gift make it strong indeed. Head to Los Angeles, where a contact of mine will be waiting for you. Here, she will help you enhance your power of the siren.
"You got it! I'll give it my all!" Tea nodded, pumping a fist, earning a nod from the sea god before the scene shifted to its last scene: the downtown district of Domino City.
Tristan Taylor, this will be the location of your trial. Here in downtown Domino, another contact of mine will be awaiting your arrival. Here, your trial will commence when you have arrived.
"You got it," Tristan nodded back to him before Duke spoke up.
"What about me? Don't I get a trial like them?" he asked.
Duke, your powers will evolve on their own in time. How they will do so, will be up to you. But do not expect such a thing so soon. These abilities will come to you in time as you grow with them Leviathan replied, earning a nod of understanding.
I have faith in all of you to come out successful and more powerful than you have been before. Also I will be searching out for any signs of my crystal shards. Once I have clues to where they are located, I will pass it on to you all. Good luck to all of you.. and may the Fortune Ladies and the gods watch over you. With that, Mokuba was released and fell back against Blue Eye's snout, earning a soft growl of concern from the god of water.
"He'll be alright. Once we find those shards, it'll at least get them out of the woods until we deal with this monster Chaos," Kaiba replies to him as he took his little brother into his arms.
"Kaiba's right. We cannot afford to waste any more time. The longer we do so, the more time both Mokuba and Leviathan lose. And more time for Chaos to gather his strength. Let us head home and rest, for tomorrow we start our journeys," Yami piped up.
"Yeah, de fate of de world depends on us again," Joey agreed. "And we need ta pass our trials if we're gonna fight Chaos to our full power."
Now back in the living room of the Game Shop, Mokuba was awake again and with a bit of help from his older brother, was able to stand up on his own. "We better get home then, Seto. Leviathan says starting tomorrow, our own trial starts... and I hate to think what we're going to face because he won't tell me."
"Whatever he has planned, we'll face it together, like how we beat that ringmaster. We Kaibas never quit and we never say die," he says while kneeling before his brother and placing a hand on his shoulder, offering one of his rare smiles, to which Mokuba smiled back and nodded.
"A'right, y'all. Let's get some shut-eye. We gotta lot of work ahead of us," Joey says.
"I have an idea." Grinning, Spencer snapped his fingers and in sparks of magic, transfigured the large couch into a huge bed that took up half the living room floor. Soft blankets, duvets and pillows of all sizes and softness appeared around them. "Sleepover!"
"Heck yeah!" Duke and Tristan yelled, slapping a high five again.
"It's been awhile since I've been to one," Tea giggled as she and the others transformed their clothes into their sleeping ones.
With a reluctant sigh, Kaiba transfigured his own after getting puppy eyes from his kid brother. "Fine, I guess I can stay here for the night. But I'm not sleeping next to doggy breath over there," he muttered, pointing to Joey for emphasis before laying down next to Mokuba.
"WHATCHA SAY, RICH BOY!?" Joey snapped instantly, causing Tristan to hold him back and getting exasperated sighs from Spencer and Tea. "I'LL SHOW YA DOGGY BREATH!"
"Joey, knock it off and get some sleep!" Duke yelled slightly.
"But... But... grrr...! Fine..." Joey would finally relent and grumble as he finally calmed himself, still muttering under his breath and death glaring at Kaiba, who just ignored him completely.
"Yugi..?" Tea would come over next to him and lay down. "Can I..?" A light pink blush would creep across her cheeks and the boy caught on, knowing what she wanted. Smiling with a nod, he would let the Pharaoh take over again and Tea would be drawn into his arms, much to her delight. "Goodnight, Yami~" she says with a sigh of content at the end.
"Goodnight, Tea. Pleasant dreams," Yami whispered softly as the two closed their eyes, fingers laced together with hers.
On the other side, some of the boys (Joey, Tristan, Duke, Bakura and Spencer) would be smiling as well, seeing the cute sight before them. They knew Tea was in love with the Pharaoh and for tonight, they wouldn't ruin it. Even Kaiba smirked, although it was a VERY teeny one before drawing his brother closer to him and closing his eyes.
"Goodnight, big brother.." Mokuba yawned as Spencer used a bit of magic to turn off the lights.
"Goodnight... Mokie.." Kaiba says, earning a big grin from Mokuba. That nickname again.. some of his brother from the past was starting to shine through. He felt one more join them and it turned out to be CJ, dressed in a cyan tank top and dark blue sleep shorts. "Goodnight, CJ."
"Goodnight, guys. See you all in the morning," CJ says before pecking Kaiba on the cheek and snuggling down into the comfortable duvet Kaiba grabbed from the pile.
The last to fall asleep was the king himself as he looked over his friends. Starting out as a mentor for them, now he was considered family among them. And after he found his son, he had never been so close to everyone. A proud smile came across his face as he thought to himself 'I've never been so proud of you all, amigos. The gods were right in choosing you to be new guardians of our worlds. I know you all will pass your trials.' Finally settling down, he pulled the blanket he chose up and shut his eyes, finally letting himself fall to dream land.
Tomorrow was going to be a trying day. And they were going to need all their strength for what was set to come.
