Emma's POV
Ray told us over dinner that Victoria will be watching us while he goes to my dad's funeral. He told me that he'd check on Cira for me just in case. I barely ate after that, my appetite just slipped away when I thought of missing dad's funeral. I look over at Julie, she is on her phone looking through social media. Over in the room next to ours I can hear video game sounds and shouting from the guys. I turn on the bedside lamp and open my song book. Cira and I went to different schools after 5th grade, so we both had different friends. But I always knew I could count on her for anything. Although I never told her the truth about my school friends. On the first page is my song; All My Friends Are Fake(The song is Tate McRaes not mine). On the second page is another song:Shadows(Sabrina Carpenters). Then my personal favorite; Traitor(Olivia Rodrigo). My guitar is on it's stand at the foot of my bed. Julie glances over at me and gets up. I quickly shut my book and slip it under my pillow.
"Are you alright?"She asks, sitting on my bed.
"Yeah...totally!"I lie. She looks at me with a 'Don't lie to me' look. I sigh and open the book and let her look through it.
"Traitor? It sounds like it's about a guy…"Julie looks up at me.
"It's about my ex boyfriend, Ethan."I mutter. Three seconds later, Mason crashes through the door.
"Did you say Ethan?"He snaps. I nod and gesture towards the open notebook. "Oh…."Mason eases up.
"Can you leave?"Julie glares at him.
"Yeah, sorry about bothering you."He backs up and closes the door behind him. I hear the muffled voices of him and the other guys. "Hehe, sorry I thought she was going to start crying again…"Mason says. Me and Julie roll our eyes.
"About what?"Reggie asks.
"Her ex,"Masonsays.
"How did they break up?"Luke asks.
"They decided they were not going to work after he started talking about some other girl in our school."Mason answers. I sigh and Julie continues to look through the book.
"Happier? Let me guess, same guy?"(Happier is by Olivia Rodrigo again :|) I nod and she closes the book.
She and Flynn told me that summer tryouts for the music program are coming up. I agreed to try out as long as I sing one of my own songs. Tomorrow, before the tryouts, Flynn and Julie are going to help me choose the song from my book. When Julie goes back to her bed I flick the light off and lay down. Finally, I feel myself drift off.
The Next Morning:
I wake up to someone clanging pots together. I hear a thump and look over my shoulder to see Luke clanging the pots and Mason singing at the top of his lungs. I throw my pillow and hit one of the pots out of Luke's hand. "HEY!"He growls at me. Julie's pillow hits Mason and the head.
"Nice shot cuz!"I laugh.
"Not too bad yourself Em!"Julie nods to the pot on the floor. I smile and slide off my bed.
"OUT"I hiss at them. They obey and close the door. I dig through my drawers until I find the jeans I had sewn patches on. I choose my Hollister shirt and throw on a plaid shirt over it. Julie changed into a dress with Dahlia prints on it. We exit our room to see Mason and the other boys fully dressed and ready for the audition. Flynn waits at the bottom of the stairs. My notebook is tucked under my arm. We sit on the couch and I open the notebook, letting her search through it.
"FOUND IT!"Flynn cries out and thrusts the notebook into my arms. She chose the song "Enough For You". Julie looks over the lyrics for a second.
"I agree with Flynn!"She confirms. I nod and practice the lyrics a few times before it sounds perfect.
At 1:00 In the Auditorium:
Julie and her friends finished their auditions. I wait backstage for my name to be called. "EMMA MOLINA!" I walk onto the stage and sit on the stool.
"This song is called Enough For You, I hope you like it!"I say and strum the chords for the song.

No, nothing's enough for you" Everyone claps except for five girls sitting in the seats. Uncle Ray and Mason clap the loudest. Luke, Reggie, and Alex are in utter shock at the lyrics to my song. I thank everyone and get off the stage. Julie hugs me tightly, Mason ruffles my hair, and Ray gives me a warm smile.
Julie's POV
Luke pulls me aside when we get home, he's still a little shocked by my cousin's song. "Your cousin can write and sing!"He lets it all out.
"Yup"I say.
"I am so confused! Why didn't you warn us?"He asks.
"I wanted it to be a little bit of a surprise."I answer simply. I slide onto the piano bench and play the chords to the song. "Ugh! I can't remember the chords to the song"I sigh. Luke picks up his guitar and plays the chords with ease. My eyes widen and he smirks at me.
"Music comes easily to me, Jules!"He explains before I can ask. Carlos walks in with his Ipad.
"Nick is here to see you Julie!"Carlos shouts as if I'm in the loft.
"Okay thanks!"I rush out and meet Nick on the porch. "Hi Nick.."I say.
"Hey Julie, I was wondering if you wanted to grab some coffee with me this friday...If you can."He asks.
"Of course! I would love to!"I say. The last time he asked I had turned him down, but I pushed my feelings for Luke away after I realized Flynn was right.
"Really? In April you turned me down...are you sure?"He asks.
"Yeah, me and Luke just had some similar experiences so I thought we'd be perfect for each other, but I pushed that aside."I explain. "I'd love too, Nick."I smile at him. He hugs me and runs back to his car. He waves to me before getting in and driving off. I walk to mine and Emma's room to find her singing another song. I instantly recognize it as Just Like Fire by Pink.

Just like fire"Her voice sounds like if honey could be a sound. I smile and clap slightly. She looks at me in shock then recognizes me. Someone else claps and we turn to see Luke standing in the doorway.
"You have a great voice Emma!"He says. I see a light shade of pink tinting her cheeks.
"Thanks Luke"Emma mutters, placing her guitar on its stand and running her fingers through her hair. They share a small moment and I feel the pain of jealousy tugging at my heart, Can I still have feelings for Luke? I ask myself as they get to know each other. I told Nick I was over Luke so there is no way I still do…..
