Notes: So I needed a little breather from the heavy stuff in my other work and decided to go for something cute and fluffy. Here's the highly requested part 2. Also, it's my birthday and I want all the attention (jk)! I hope you like this little addition to this AU.
Summary: Chloe and Beca play a game to get to know each other better. Basically they google each other and try to guess whether or not the rumour or whatever news article about them is true or not.
Chapter 2: If you quote me, I will deny
"I have an idea." Beca suddenly blurted out. "But only if you're up for it."
She felt really bad for judging Chloe earlier before even trying to at least get to know her as a person so she wanted to make up for it.
"Hm? What are you thinking? I'm not gonna lie, you got me curious."
"We obviously don't know much about each other. Aside from being neighbours, we're basically strangers."
Chloe nodded. It's not like she didn't not agree with what Beca was saying. It was true.
"But I mean I know of your music and you've heard about me from your friends so maybe a little more than strangers?" Chloe teased.
Beca rolled her eyes at that obvious jab by Chloe. "That's exactly what I'm saying. We don't really know each other. So I was thinking we should change that."
"And how do you propose we do that?"
"By playing my very own version of bullshit."
"Okay how do you play it?"
"Easy really. We google each other then whatever news article, gossip or rumour we find about the other, we have to guess whether it's the truth or it's a load of bull. Whoever guesses right get's a point."
"You literally just made up this game didn't you?"
"No. Ed Sheeran invented this game. We played it before we wrote a song together."
"Bullshit!" Chloe said while pointing her finger at Beca with a big grin.
"Oh my god you're so into this already." Beca jumped and put a hand over her heart. "Although I must say that's actually the truth."
"Seriously? Damn. So do you get a point for that or something?"
Beca nods. "Yeah and whoever with the most points at the end of the game wins."
"Let's make it more interesting. How about whoever guesses wrong has to take a shot?"
"I thought you said you didn't drink much?"
"Yeah. I didn't say I didn't drink at all."
"Okay, you know what? I'll call. Let's do it."
Beca grabbed a bottle of tequila and two shot glasses and set it on the coffee table. She then sat on the opposite side of the couch. The both of them were glued to their phone scrolling for anything they could find about the other.
"Alright. Do you want to go first?" Beca asked Chloe.
"Okay. Oooh I found one!" Chloe scans the article before reading it out loud and raised an eyebrow. "Oh." The headline already getting her and tilts her head as she scrolls through the article. "Oh." She says again in a higher pitch.
"What? What is it? What did you find?" Beca doesn't know why she was being nervous. This was her idea after all.
Chloe cleared her throat. "Grammy nominated singer/songwriter Beca Mitchell seen stepping out of Pleasure Chest and took home a bag of – "
"Okay we get the gist." Beca cut her off.
"This is so true." Chloe said laughing.
"Yeah yeah whatever. We've all done it."
"I haven't."
"What? You haven't been to a sex shop?"
"No." Chloe answered simply. She was just stating a fact.
"Noted. We'll have to change that then. I would gladly take you to one."
"I can already see the headlines."
"Who cares? Everyone has to experience it at least once."
"Don't get me wrong, who's to say I don't have toys? I just haven't been to a physical store."
Beca cleared her throat. "I wasn't assuming that you didn't. My point was just you should be able to experience going into one."
"So I look like someone who would own sex toys?"
Beca was flustered and she can't explain why. "This isn't how the game works."
Beca then busies herself looking for articles about Chloe.
"Chloe Beale at it again hitting the hottest clubs in LA. It says here you were once again spotted at a nightclub going home basically shitfaced drunk. This was just last weekend by the way."
Chloe hummed. Those were articles about her that she was most familiar with.
"True. Obviously."
"That's your answer?"
"What? Are you going to tell me this is bullshit?"
"Well not all of it is true. So I think you should at least drink half a shot."
Chloe felt like she had to explain herself further. "Yes it's true I do go to those clubs. But I don't usually get drunk in those. And if you're specifically talking about last weekend then I definitely didn't go home shit faced drunk. I don't even think I drank any alcohol that night."
"What are you saying?"
"It's all for show Beca. My manager thinks it works for my 'image'. I don't agree but I don't really have a choice sometimes."
Beca could feel how much this was a sore spot for Chloe. "You don't have to do anything that you don't want to you know?"
Chloe scoffed. She was preparing to take a shot anyway cause she felt like she needed a drink. "I love what I do but I don't love everything that comes with it."
Beca grabbed her own shot glass and clinked it with Chloe's as they drank their shots together.
"That must really suck." Beca still doesn't understand the reason behind it but she was feeling mad for Chloe too. It makes her start to think there was more to Chloe then she let on.
"Tell me about it." Chloe grabs her phone again. "Okay my go."
They went back and forth like that. A lot of the articles they knew there was no way to be true but still went with it for the heck of it.
It was obvious neither were really playing the game to win it but instead to really try to get to know each other in the most spontaneous way.
"Oh I found a good one." Beca said. "It says here you lost your virginity on the set of John Tucker Must Die."
Beca squints her eyes and looks at Chloe long. Chloe kept her poker face on and waited for Beca to answer.
"It's the truth?" Beca guessed.
Chloe gasped and threw a pillow at Beca. "That's just filth! You deserve two shots for that."
Beca couldn't stop laughing. Her instinct said it wasn't the truth. Seeing Chloe's reaction made it worth it though.
Chloe didn't expect this but this was turning out to be a really great night.
"Alright my turn. Beca Mitchell comes out as bisexual." Chloe puts her phone down and looks at Beca.
"True."
Beca's face cracks with a smile and shakes her head no.
"What? No way. That's bullshit?"
"Well technically I came out as a lesbian not bisexual. Drink up Ms. Beale."
"This isn't fair."
Beca watched how easy it was for Chloe to take that shot. Chloe knew how to drink. She could tell she was having fun. They both were. She was glad to see a genuine smile on Chloe's face. Unbeknownst to her was that she was sporting one herself too and Beca wasn't a grinner.
"Alright. Your go." Chloe was really enjoying this made up game.
"Okay. Let's see."
Beca's eyes bulged when she saw the words sex and scandal next to Chloe's name and quickly kept scrolling. She knew Chloe was watching her and she knew she was blushing like crazy.
"What? Are you blushing right now?"
Beca wanted to disappear and for the ground to swallow her up. Of all the articles she could come across, it had to be this one. There was even a video. It baffled her how easy it was for her to find it.
"I'm not blushing." She said as she feels her ears and cheeks warm up.
"You so are! Come on. I can take anything. I'm pretty sure I've seen it all. Nothing will faze me."
"No wait. I haven't found anything."
"Yes you have. I can see it in your face. Come on." Chloe then reached for Beca's phone and in her panic, Beca dropped it.
The next thing they heard mortified Beca. There were moaning sounds and clapping of bodies. Chloe was laughing. Beca couldn't believe it. She figured maybe that was Chloe's way of coping with things.
"I'm sorry. I didn't know." Beca picked up her phone and closed the video.
"So you think it's true?"
"Chloe it's right there. There's even a video. That's pretty convincing."
"So you think it's true that I have a sex scandal out there in the internet for everyone to see?"
"Are you telling me that's bullshit?"
"Yeah. Believe it or not, that's not me. But I have to say she looks a lot like me. Even when I first saw it I legit thought I had a sex scandal. I've never seen my manager more appalled and that says a lot."
Beca was just looking at Chloe. She sounded like a crazy person right now. More like a really defensive crazy person.
"I don't know Chloe. I mean. It's okay we can skip it. We don't have to talk about this anymore."
"No I'm serious."
Beca watched Chloe pick her phone up from the floor. Chloe pressed play on the video again and paused. She showed Beca the very naked photo of her on all fours. Beca turned away. She couldn't look.
"Seriously look, her lips are different and my nose is not like that. She even has a small tattoo on her shoulder and a mole right there." Chloe pulls her shirt to the side to show her shoulder and pulled it down further to show Beca she doesn't have the tattoo or the mole.
"Oh my god. How long have you been looking at her to even spot those?" Beca took her phone back. She had to do something to distract herself.
"I told you. I myself was convinced it was me but I knew there was no way."
Beca looks at the girl in the video properly for the first time. She could slowly see the things Chloe pointed out. Their similarities though were uncanny.
She looks up at Chloe who looked very smug. "Well fuck."
"Yup. Drink up Becs. Don, my manager, thinks they did that on purpose."
"How the hell did I lose that point?" Beca said as she downed her shot.
"Oh. This is interesting." Beca heard Chloe say.
She was just thankful they were moving on. "Care to share to the room?"
"It says here that you once dated a fan and it didn't end well but you were together for a while and that it ended up with a huge payout."
Beca tried her best to keep a neutral face but the alcohol was getting to her.
"Oh my god it's true!"
"This isn't fair." Beca grumbled.
"It's not my fault you're easy to read. So tell me. What happened to that?"
"There's nothing else to tell. That's exactly what happened."
Chloe didn't seem satisfied with that answer.
"What? You wouldn't date a fan?"
"I always said never say never but no I don't think I would."
"I guess it's different. You're much much more famous than me."
"Don't sell yourself short. I'm just saying I don't think I would. I would be too paranoid you know? And it would be weird. I don't know. Maybe if they proved themselves to me with time, maybe but I don't know. I don't think it's likely."
"I get it. But I don't know what happened. I fell for her. It was all on me. Everyone was against it but not because she was a fan. So yeah that happened."
Beca then started scrolling on her phone looking for more articles about Chloe.
"Oh. It says here you are currently dating Tom Nicks."
"So not true." Beca said with confidence.
"You're right. That's total bullshit."
"For one you wouldn't be here with me if you were seeing someone right? Surely you could've easily ask your boyfriend for help to get you out of there earlier instead of a stranger."
Chloe nodded. "That's a really good point. And I guess it goes the same for you. You wouldn't be entertaining a stranger if you were seeing someone."
"I just got back from tour dude and I'm about to start working on my next album. I wouldn't even have the time."
"Yeah. Same. I start filming shortly too. It's about to get a lot more hectic."
Beca chuckled. "Price we gotta pay huh?"
Chloe shrugged. "We just have to find someone who'll understand and be willing to work something out."
"I'm sure there's someone out there for you. They'd be crazy to not try and work it out to be with you."
"You too. You deserve it just as much as I do."
With a quarter left of their tequila, they both felt like it was time to call it.
"This was really fun. We should do it again sometime. I like getting to know you more." Chloe said to Beca.
"Yeah you too. Sorry for keeping you here. Judging by the calls and messages, I bet they're all looking for you now. I can drive you back to your house and I can pick up my friends too."
"Right. Of course. I'm sorry for overstaying my welcome. But that's okay, there's no way I'm going back home tonight. I'll just take a cab to a hotel."
"What? No. You're most welcome to stay here. I'm not kicking you out. I just thought you had to go. There's plenty of room here. Stay."
"I don't want to impose."
"No no not at all. I insist. I think Don would want to kill me more if I let you stay at a hotel."
Chloe considered it. She didn't really want to leave yet.
"But of course I won't force you to stay if you don't want to." Beca was worried she was pushing it.
"Do you have to go and pick up your friends yet?"
"To be honest I don't even know where to start looking for them."
"If you don't mind staying here with me for a bit."
"Of course not at all."
Chloe was trying to fight a yawn. She was getting tired herself and they did drink a lot of tequila already.
"I should prepare the guest room for you."
"There's no rush." Chloe then moved towards Beca and rested her head on her lap. "Is this okay?"
"Are you comfortable?"
"Yeah. Very."
"Okay then good." Beca's voice was calm but deep down she was panicking.
Chloe had her head on her lap and her eyes were closed. Beca didn't know what to do with her hands or where to place them. She was too afraid of touching Chloe so she kept both her hands on the couch.
"Tell me something about you that Google doesn't know." Chloe said softly.
Beca smiled as she thought about her answer. She didn't answer for a while. She thought Chloe would be asleep by the time she did.
"I would give up everything just to spend a few minutes with my mom again. Smell her scent and hear her voice. My biggest fear is that I would forget what she sounds like. That's why I keep like a million copies of anything that has her voice in it. This is all for her." Beca then leaned back and stared at the ceiling.
"I would love to hear her thoughts about my songs. She's my biggest fan so I'm sure she would say they're amazing even if they're not. I hope my music makes her happy. This will sound crazy but the thought that somehow my mom may hear my songs motivates me so much to keep making music."
Beca didn't even feel Chloe turn to face her. She looked back down and wasn't expecting to meet Chloe's blue eyes, bluer than ever looking up at her.
"I wish I met her. She sounds amazing."
"She was."
"I know in my heart she's proud of you and everything that you do."
"Thank you. That means a lot. Deep down I know she is. I just wish she was here to see it."
"I'm sure she's watching over you."
Beca started to rub her eyes and wipe her tears. "Sorry I didn't mean to get all emotional on you."
"Don't be. Thank you for sharing that with me." Chloe pushed herself up
Beca and Chloe locked eyes. Beca's hand found its way over to Chloe's hips and Chloe gently cupped Beca's face with her hand. They both alternated looking at each other's lips and eyes.
They were slowly closing the gap with Beca continually searching for anything in Chloe's eyes that would tell her this was a mistake. It felt right. Just when they were about to kiss, someone kicked the front door open. Beca looked up and pulled away in an instant. Chloe also turned to see who just came in.
Stacie and Amy were frozen to their spots by the door.
"Well this explains why we couldn't spot Chloe Beale all night." Amy said.
While Stacie asked "Is this a bad time?"
Beca groaned of embarrassment or disappointment, she wasn't quite sure. Chloe lifted her head off Beca's lap giggling.
"Hi you must be Stacie and Amy."
