A/N: So, I'm currently working on a different one-shot, but it's super long and it's taking me a while, so I wanted to write this just to give you something to read before then. I will probably end up splitting that one into 2 or 3 parts, but they will be posted at the same time, so no worries.

My review responses are also in that one-shot, so don't fret if you don't see them here. Regardless, I appreciate each and every review, it lets me know you are enjoying these.

Anyway, this one is about them passing notes back and forth during class. It's super cute, ha. Takes place shortly after the end of the 3rd season.

Story 3: Passing Notes

Jimmy was absolutely bored out of his mind.

It was nearing the end of the school year, next year they would begin middle school, and as such Ms. Fowl had recently been assigning them review packets for their upcoming finals. He did not think they even had finals until next year, but their teacher loved nothing more than to give a bunch of fifth-graders difficult assignments to prepare them.

Today had been a math packet, which he finished in record time, of course. Cindy had finished not too long after him, so now they were both sitting there bored out of their minds while the rest of their classmates worked at a slower pace.

He had taken out his invention design book afterward and finished up the final touches on Cindy's gift that he had been preparing for her for a couple of weeks now. Her twelfth birthday was coming up in less than a month and Jimmy had wanted to make something special for her.

It had taken him some time to come up with an idea she would like that was also personal, but he had done it. A watch, much like his own, with more advanced features than his currently had. Jimmy was planning on updating his own watch to match hers, obviously. It was in major need of an overhaul anyway.

The watch would include a personal message from him that she could listen to whenever she wanted, but he was not planning on telling her it was there; Cindy would just have to discover it on her own.

Jimmy honestly loved to give his... girlfriend? Sort-of girlfriend? Friend with benef- okay, definitely not that, but they were something to each other. The two of them had yet to talk about what they were, despite the many dates they had gone on lately. His favorite were definitely the 'class assignment' dates, where she would come to his lab and they would work on homework together, and after they were done it would become more of an actual date where they would watch movies, play board games, or video games, and sometimes just talked.

Of course, kissing and cuddling were involved, which was always a plus. He loved those dates where it was just the two of them- no arguing, no fighting, nothing. Of course, most of their arguing was behind them these days, but they still sprung up once in a while when they disagreed heavily on a topic.

Anyway, where was he? Oh yes, Jimmy enjoyed giving Cindy gifts. Seeing her eyes light up in joy from something he gave her set aflame something within himself that he could not accurately describe, but it was a good feeling. Her reaction to the pearl he had spent way too much time searching for all those months ago was definitely the igniter, but he could not bring himself to give her gifts in person after the island until recently.

Back to the watch he was making, he knew Carl, Sheen, and Libby would be jealous over not getting them, so he was working on making a watch for each of them as well, but they would be less advanced than his and Cindy's. They would include the basics such as communication (both voice and video), a tracking device should the need arise, a compass, a music player (which he knew Libby would love), and a few other features that were what his current watch basically had.

Well, he would not give Carl or Sheen the laser part, that would end in disaster at some point. They would probably set their houses on fire for all he knew.

Letting out a bored, silent sigh and resting his hand on his chin, Jimmy looked over at Carl, who was working with utmost concentration, even though his face seemed to convey complete confusion over the math problems. He would have helped his friends, but they had to work on these packets by themselves, unfortunately for Carl and Sheen.

Quickly glancing over at Cindy, he noticed she was writing something on a piece of paper, before shifting his eyes away just as quickly. He would love nothing more than to stare at her, of course, but Jimmy would get lost in a daydream with that ridiculous smile on his face that she said he had when he did.

He could not help if her beautiful, wonderful-smelling self distracted him so much! Those magnificent locks of soft, sunshine-yellow hair, those limpid pools of endless emerald eyes, the way she bit her lip as she-

"Ow!" Jimmy quietly exclaimed, rubbing the back of his head in irritation. He twirled around to glare at the only culprit it could be- Sheen. "What the heck, Sheen?"

"Sorry, dude, you looked like you were Cindy Daydream Land again," he whispered back, an unapologetic smile on his face.

Jimmy gritted his teeth at that. Sheen had developed the most unwelcome habit of flicking him in his head every time he got lost in a daydream lately. He was becoming a real pest about it, too.

"Well knock it off!" Jimmy said scornfully in a whisper. "I'm well within my rights to daydream!"

"Nuh uh, not when you drool all over your desk. Gotta stop you from embarrassing yourself in front of your girlfriend," he replied softly before going back to his packet, snickering to himself under his breath.

"She's not-! Oh whatever," Jimmy mumbled. He turned around back in his seat and sunk down low in it with his arms crossed. He discreetly wiped the drool from his chin and pouted.

So he was a lovesick puppy, sue him. He blames those stupid llama romance films that Carl had recently gotten into and made him and Sheen watch. Seriously, llama romance? They were running out of ideas, clearly. They were the most cheesy, unrealistic portrayals of romance he had ever seen, and he would know as his dad loved to make him watch chick flicks with him on occasion.

Ugh, those were torture. The llama romance films even more so.

Unnoticed by him, Jimmy's right leg began to bounce out of a lack of anything else to do. He started to get lost in daydream once again before a soft 'thunk' snapped him back to reality. He looked down at his desk and noticed one of those folded-up pieces of paper in the shape of a triangle.

What were they called? Oh yes, footballs. They did not even slightly resemble the oblong shape of the American ball or the round soccer ball, so why they were called this Jimmy had no idea. However, they were a recent craze amongst preteens and teenagers, and Sheen had gotten suckered into the obsession with them. Not that the young genius was surprised by that, of course. His older friend had forced both he and Carl into learning how to make them, much to Jimmy's chagrin and annoyance.

Knitting his eyebrows in confusion, the boy genius unfolded the paper and smoothed it out on his desk, after making sure Ms. Fowl was not paying attention.

'Are you as bored as I am? If I knew I wouldn't get in trouble, I'd ditch school right now.

Also, stop bouncing your leg, it's annoying!

- C'

He knew it was Cindy, and not Carl, that had sent this note just by the tone of the words. Smiling, he grabbed his pencil and wrote a reply.

'Of course I was bored, but now I'm not. ;)

I didn't know I was even bouncing it, sorry.

- J'

He folded it back up with practiced ease before hiking it back over to Cindy's desk, watching her unfold and read it from the corner of his eye, laughing silently as she rolled her eyes and wrote back.

'You're ridiculous, Neutron. But uh, you wanna do anything after school? I've got nothing else to do and Libby has a doctor's appointment.

Whatever you can think of is fine with me.

- C'

She folded it up and flicked it back over to him. He read it and thought of what to reply for a moment.

'Sure! I've got nothing planned with Carl or Sheen, so I was just going to hang out in my lab for a while.

If you want, we can go see that new movie I know you've been wanting to see. What was it, The Last Day or something? It was some post-apocalyptic movie, at any rate.

Just you and me, in a darkened theater... Sounds better than being alone in my lab today. ;)

- J'

He was being a bit bold there, but Jimmy loved getting under her skin with a bit of flirting. She was absolutely adorable when she blushed, and blush she did, much to his enjoyment. He could tell she was smiling, too.

'Oh knock it off, Romeo. But yes, it was The Last Day. Sounds good to me! Meet me at the theater at 5?

- C'

Romeo, huh? Oh, she just opened a can of worms on that.

'But soft! What light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and Cynthia is the sun. Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon, who is already sick and pale with grief.

(5 is good.)

- J'

He had struggled to contain his giggles as he wrote his note, much to Cindy's confusion. He watched as her face became red and she herself started struggling to contain her giggles.

Neither one of them noticed Libby watching them with exasperation as she rolled her eyes at their antics. She shook her head and ignored the two lovebirds, going back to her packet of math problems.

'O James, James! Wherefore art thou James? Deny thy father and refuse thy name; or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, and I'll no longer be a Vortex.

Okay, this is getting silly! XD

- C'

Jimmy had to control his laughter lest he unleash the wrath of Ms. Fowl, who, by this point, was snoring away at her desk.

'Ah, but Ms. Vortex, I love silly when it comes to you!

Also, I like it when you call me James. As long as it isn't used in a reprimanding manner, you can call me by my real name any time you want.

You get special privilege, my Moonlight Mars Angel.

- J'

He grinned victoriously with smugness when he saw her entire face turn red at the nickname for her he had come up with on the spot.

Eventually, after regular discussion, the notes just became bad attempts of flirting with each other, making them giggle under their breath each time, both of them blushing quite a bit as well.

At some point, Cindy decided to take a while longer with her note, concerning Jimmy for a moment, until it landed on his desk not too long after. He opened it up to see a picture that she had drawn, which explains why she had taken so long. His eyes went wide and Jimmy nearly choked on his own spit as he tried to contain a bout of boisterous laughter.

Cindy had drawn Ms. Fowl as a chicken. To be precise, she had her normal head with the body of a chicken, clucking over a nest of chicks that all had the heads of them and their classmates.

It got to be too much for him and he started hacking to cover up his laughter, which in turn woke up their teacher, who turned to look at him in concern.

"Braaawwwww- Jimmy! Are you alright?"

"I think- cough- I need a drink of water," he wheezed out, trying not to look at her directly. He was afraid if he did, he would not be able to hold back his laugh in front of her.

"Aaaalright, take the hall pass and go before you choke," she told him, and Jimmy obliged happily. He got up from his seat, stuffing the picture in his pocket, and grabbed the hall pass on his way out of the door.

He ran towards the boy's restroom and locked himself in, finally releasing the laughter he was holding in with vigor.

A short while later he returned to the classroom, after stuffing the picture in his locker for safekeeping, of course. He was going to keep that picture forever if he could help it.

"Hey, Jim, you okay?" Carl asked in a whisper as Jimmy sat down.

"I'm fine Carl, really. Thanks for asking, though," he replied. He noted that Ms. Fowl had fallen back asleep. She must have been as bored as the rest of them, apparently.

"Okay, just making sure," Carl replied before going back to working on his math packet.

A minute later a new note landed on his desk.

'You okay? You had me a bit worried, there.

- C'

Jimmy happily scribbled a reply.

'I'm perfectly fine! I just ran to the bathroom to let out my laughter. That picture was hilarious!

I'm keeping it forever.

- J'

He saw Cindy lift an eyebrow as she read his note.

'You are one weird kid, James. I didn't think it was that funny, but to each their own, I suppose.

- C'

Just as Jimmy was writing a reply, he was interrupted.

"Jimmy! Cindy! Brawwk, if you two are quite finished passing notes, please just sit there quietly for the rest of the claaaa-aaass!" Ms. Fowl said, staring down the two of them with disappointment. She had not really been asleep, it seemed.

Both of them sunk down in their seats in embarrassment amidst the giggling and teasing of their classmates.

Thankfully, class was over within fifteen minutes, and everyone bolted out of the door as quickly as possible when the bell rang, including Jimmy and Cindy as they did not want to be reprimanded by their teacher any further if they could help it.

Ms. Fowl sighed and shook her head sadly. 'Oh how I miss when those two would argue. It's been peaceful, but it just isn't the same...'

Jimmy sighed in relief as he put his school books and notes away in his locker. With it being this close to the end of the year, they had almost no homework, which was great as it meant more time spent with his friends after school. And more time to invent, as well.

The only thing he was taking home with him was the picture Cindy had drawn.

As he was passing by a door on his way out of the school, he was swiftly grabbed by the back of his shirt and pulled into the room, which he noted was a supplies closet.

"Leapin' Leptons!" Jimmy shouted in surprise as he turned to look at his kidnapper. "Cindy?!"

"You think you're getting out of here without punishment for all that note flirting, Neutron?" Cindy said with narrowed eyes, her arms crossed and her foot tapping rapidly as though she were agitated.

"Um, well... ha ha, yes? I thought you liked it?" Jimmy said nervously, rubbing the back of his neck, not looking at her directly. "Besides, you flirted ba- eep!" He let out a rather unmanly squeal as the blond pulled him towards her by the front of his shirt.

"You have no idea what you do to me, James," she purred, causing Jimmy to gulp nervously as he started to sweat a bit. The use of his real name in that tone of voice sent a shudder down his spine.

"I sort of do- mmmph!" He was cut off as she crashed her lips onto his, halting all thought process as he got lost in the spontaneous kiss. He subconsciously noticed that Cindy let go of the front of his shirt to wrap her arms around him instead, which he reciprocated in kind.

He had to stand on his tiptoes a bit to avoid breaking the kiss when she let go of him, though. Jimmy hated being so dang short, especially when he was trying to kiss his... well, at this point she was his girlfriend, was she not?

And he was just fine with that.

END

A/N: Ha ha, well, I hope you enjoyed this, and hope it tides you over until I finish the big one-shot I'm working on. Oh, and the watch thing? I like to imagine he makes her a watch of her own at some point as a gift.
