Chapter 4: Talking to Dad
Back at the house, Ian and Alana walked through the front door. They walked up the stairs to their bedroom and sat down together. Then, they took out the list they made together that morning and scratched out the things to do. After that, Ian and Alana looked at two photos. In the first photo, their father had his arms around Barley, when he was younger, and their mother, when she was pregnant with the both of them. In the other photo, their mother had Barley, when he was younger, and the both of them when they were babies, sitting in front of her.
Ian looked at his twin sister with a sad expression, and Alana looked at her twin brother with the same sad expression. Then, Ian put a stereo radio on top of the desk as Alana grabbed an audio cassette from the desk drawer. The cassette was labeled "Dad". As Ian and Alana played the audio, they heard their father's voice speaking. When the cassette stopped, Ian rewinds the cassette to repeat the audio. Then, Ian and Alana decided to talk to the audio, as if they were talking to their dad.
"Hi, Dad." Ian said.
"Hi, Daddy." Alana said.
"Hello? Hello?" Wilden said in the audio.
"It's us, Ian and Alana." Ian said.
"Oh, is that right?" Wilden said in the audio.
"Yeah. Did you have a good day?" Alana asked.
"Well, I'm trying to." Wilden said with a chuckle in the audio.
"Yeah, us, too." Ian said.
"Though, we could clearly use some help." Alana said with a chuckle.
Wilden chuckled in the audio.
"We really would like to spend the day with you sometime." Ian said.
"I know.!" Wilden said in the audio.
"Yeah, there's so many things we could do.! We bet it would be really fun.!" Alana said.
"Well, let's find out." Wilden said in the audio.
"Yeah, we'd love to.! We really-" Ian started.
"Okay, bye." Wilden said in the audio.
Then, the cassette stopped.
"Yeah. … Bye." Ian and Alana said sadly.
Then, Ian and Alana sat sadly in their room.
