Chapter 3
Monday morning comes around and Caroline picks me up for school. Elena rides with Bonnie and today Jeremy is riding with us. "Did you talk to Stefan this weekend?" Caroline asked me. Jeremy has his earbuds in so he can't hear us. "No. Why would I?" I asked her. Rolling her eyes she says "Well, I did." I look at her and asked "Caroline Forbes, what did you do?" She smiled and said, "I just asked if he wanted to come to the Grill with me, you and Matt this afternoon." My eyes go wide, "You did what? Okay, I'm not going." I say and she tells me "Yes you are. You will be there and you will talk to him. You deserve to be happy. Elena gets everything she wants. It's time you got what you wanted." I just shake my head and as we pull up to the school, we all get out and Jeremy says "You should listen to Caroline." I look at him shocked as he walks away. Little snot was listening.
I had three out of six classes with Stefan so it was hard to avoid him. Once school was out, we headed to the Grill and took our normal table. A few minutes later Matt and Stefan joined us. "Hey guys." Caroline greets them. I just smile and wave. I may have to be here but that doesn't mean I have to speak. "Hey Layne." Stefan says and I just smile at him. I look at those pretty green eyes and have to excuse myself. Heading to the bathroom, I splash some water on my face and when I step out of the bathroom, Stefan grabs my arm gently and pulls me down the hall. "Are we okay?" he asked. Sighing I say "Yeah. We are." I start to walk away and he stops me again. "Then why won't you talk to me?" he asked. I decide to be honest. What could it hurt? "I like you Stefan and I did feel like we hit it off but I get it if you are into my sister." I say before looking away. He turns my face to look at him and says "I am not into your sister. I am into you. I only agreed to go with Elena in the hopes that I would see you there." I smile a little and say "Really?" He leans in and kisses my cheek and says "Yes. Really. Now, let's go back out before Caroline thinks we eloped." I laugh a little and we head out to the table only to see that her and Matt have moved to the pool tables. We head that way and Caroline looks at me and asks her silent question and I nod that all is good.
When it was time to head home, Stefan asked "Can I text you tonight?" I smile and say "Yeah. You can." He kisses my cheek again and heads home while I get into Caroline's car. "Spill." she says. "He told me that he is into me and not Elena. He only took her in the hopes that he would see me at the party but didn't know that she was my sister." I tell her and she says "I told you so."
Getting into bed, my phone goes off. Looking at the screen, I smile when I see Stefan's name on the ID.
S: I really had a good time tonight.
L: Me too. We definitely have to do that again.
S: Only next time we leave Matt and Caroline at home.
L: Why's that?
S: Hard to have a date with other people there.
L: Mr. Salvatore, are you asking me on a date?
S: No. I am promising you a date Miss Gilbert. Good night and sweet dreams.
L: Good night Stefan.
