Mortal Kombat: Elemental Realm

AN: Hello there, my dear readers! Yes, I have a new story planned, one that has been on my mind for a while now. I think that combining Naruto and Mortal Kombat is pretty neat so I thought to try it out myself. And I'm not sure how regularly I'll update this. It may take me a few days, or maybe a few months depending on my inspiration so I can't promise anything. Still, at least you have the prologue chapter.

I hope you enjoy!

1 The Coming Storm

The Fourth Shinobi World War was over, being the deadliest and most destructive despite the duration of it being incredibly short. The war was originally orchestrated by Madara Uchiha, one of the most powerful ninja in existence, thanks to a lot of time, long-term thinking, and preparation.

However, despite all of his success, even he ended up being a pawn of an even more powerful being, Kaguya Otsutsuki, the Rabbit Goddess, Mother of All Chakra. But in the end, her efforts were thwarted by a group of ninja called Team Seven, Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, Sakura Haruno, and Kakashi Hatake. Naruto and Sasuke, being reincarnations of Sage of Six Paths' sons, Ashura and Indra respectively, were able to seal the mighty woman away, ending her threat.

So the Shinobi Nations were currently experiencing times of peace, one not felt in generations. And no one was more proud of achieving that peace than Naruto Uzumaki, having finally been able to achieve the thing his master and father longed for. Their dreams turned into reality.

Even still, you never know when the dream just may end up shattering around you.

In the Hidden Leaf Village, it was a sunny day as Naruto was currently sitting at one of his favorite places in the world, a restaurant called Ichiraku Ramen.

"Here's another bowl for the Hero!" Teuchi Ichiraku said as he handed Naruto a bowl of miso ramen.

Naruto gave him a wide grin. "Thanks! It feels like forever since I tasted your wonderful cooking!"

"Oh, don't mention it, Naruto," Teuchi said with a smile on his face. "And this one is on the house. After everything you did, it's the least you deserve."

"Really? You're the best!" Naruto said enthusiastically before taking his chopsticks and practically inhaling the noodles in the bowl, an act that made Teuchi laugh, but proud to see it didn't fall out of the young man's habit.

"Hey Naruto, is that arm alright?" Teuchi asked.

Naruto stopped eating his ramen and looked at the bandaged hand he had. It was quite a story. After they defeated Kaguya, Naruto and Sasuke ended up fighting each other, which resulted in both of them losing an arm, but they were able to give Naruto a new one.

"It's coming along fine. It pretty much feels like my real one," Naruto said as he wiggled his fingers before clenching it into a fist.

"Good to hear," Teuchi said.

Then another person came to the restaurant, a red-haired woman with matching-colored eyes and glasses. She took a seat next to Naruto.

Naruto glanced at the newcomer. "Oh, hi there, Karin! You up for some ramen?"

The woman, Karin smiled at the blonde man. "Well, I did want to try it out earlier, and after my house arrest I thought that I may as well try it now."

"Now that's a wise decision. You won't regret it," Naruto said which made Karin smile and shake her head in amusement. She found it funny that one of the most powerful beings in the world acted in this manner.

"Then I'd like some pork ramen, please," Karin told Teuchi.

"Coming right up!" the restaurant owner said before going to prepare the ramen.

"So, how've you been lately?" Naruto asked after finishing his bite of the ramen.

"Pretty well, all things considered," Karin said. "I must admit, I'd never have thought that this current alliance was possible, with all the Hidden Villages working together like that."

"Yeah, well, nothing's impossible for me or my friends," Naruto said with determination in his voice.

"With all you accomplished, I'm inclined to believe that."

Her ramen soon came and she began eating. And she had to admit, this was really good. Naruto was more than right when he said she wouldn't regret it.

"So, how are your teammates?" Naruto asked.

"You mean Jugo and Suigetsu? Well, the last I heard-"

She was interrupted by the sudden sound of thunder, so loud that it made her jump in her chair, shocking Naruto as well. Then it suddenly became dark, as if night had fallen. Peeking outside, Naruto and Karin saw that heavy clouds covered the sky, thunderbolts also appearing in them.

"That's strange," Teuchi commented. "There was barely a cloud out just a moment ago."

Naruto narrowed his eyes at the sight. For the sky to be so peaceful and clear only to become a thunderstorm in only a few seconds. The people who walked through the village also looked at the phenomenon in shock.

"Something isn't right here," Naruto said in a serious tone. He took a glance at Karin and was surprised to see her looking upwards with her eyes wide and mouth hanging. "Are you alright? What's happening?"

"This storm," she said nervously. "It's… not natural. I can feel an enormous amount of… well, I'm not sure if it's chakra but the amount it emanates is… ridiculous. I'm not sure even Madara had such a huge pool of chakra."

Several more thunderbolts struck, the people quickly scurrying to safety so they wouldn't get caught in the storm. Then there was a lightning bolt that came, striking at the top of the Hokage Monument.

"Naruto," Karin said with a gasp. "The source of this… it's there." She pointed at the spot where the lightning struck.

Naruto gave a slight glare at the spot. Were they already attacked, just when they achieved peace? Whatever the case, they needed to see what was going on.

Tsunade, who was still a Hokage as Kakashi had yet to accept his position, stood with several ANBU ninja on the top of the Hokage mountain. Soon after this storm came from out of nowhere, Naruto and Karin informed her that this was definitely caused by someone's power, and that someone was located on the Monument.

Outside her ANBU, joining her were Naruto, Karin, Sakura, Sasuke, Kakashi, Kiba, and Shikamaru, who were able to join soon after Naruto told the news.

And they were currently looking at a man who has his back to them, standing on the stone head of Minato Namikaze. He was dressed in white robes, a blue vest tied with a black sash, a straw hat, gauntlets, greaves, and sandals. The sleeves of his outfit were decorated with a kanji that read 'thunder'. He also held a wooden staff in his hand.

Not to mention the man was quite tall, easily over two meters in height.

"I've been expecting you," the man said in a deep but calm voice.

Tsunade narrowed her eyes at the man. "So you did. That was quite a way of gaining our attention," she said as she crossed her arms. "If I may ask, who are you? What do you want?"

The man turned around, the black cloth that covered his head revealing his face. The striking feature about him was the glowing white eyes he had.

"I am known as Raiden, the god of thunder," he answered as thunder rumbled behind him, the answer catching the people there off guard.

Shikamaru sighed. "Well, this is just great. Another one of those guys is exactly what we needed right now," he said sarcastically.

Karin just looked at the man nervously. Being in such close proximity to him made her even more aware of just how much power this man had. And she still couldn't tell if what he had was chakra or not.

"A god, eh?" Tsunade said. "We had dealings with 'gods' before, or at least self-proclaimed ones. None of which ended all that well."

"I can imagine," Raiden said before stepping off the Fourth Hokage's head. "But I assure you, I harbor no ill will toward you or anyone in this village."

"And why are you here, then?" Tsunade asked.

"To warn you," Raiden answered, his voice grimmer. "Your world is about to be invaded."

Once again, the group was shocked.

"Invaded? You can't be serious!" Kiba said, not believing what this guy was saying.

"The threat is very real," Raiden said. "The conflict that happened on your world has gained the attention of people from other dimensions, wrong people, unfortunately. Your own realm is about to be invaded by the forces of the realm called Outworld."

They had a hard time believing what this man was saying. They were about to be invaded by forces from another dimension? They would call him crazy, but after what happened with Kaguya, a lot seemed possible.

"You do realize we have to verify your story? See if you're telling the truth," Tsunade said.

Raiden gave her a nod. "You may do so."

Raiden was soon escorted to an interrogation room within the T&I department building. He had several Yamanakas looking through his memories to confirm his story. Raiden had never once shown any sign of resistance, even when they cuffed him.

Tsunade watched along with Kakashi, Ibiki, and Anko as the Yamanakas began finishing their mind reading. The head Yamanaka interrogator soon got out of the interrogation room.

"Well?" Tsunade asked.

"This man… had a lot of memories, some that can easily date back centuries," the Yamanaka said. "But from what we can tell, he is indeed telling the truth."

"Soooo, this guy is an actual god?" Anko asked with a raised eyebrow.

"It would seem so," Kakashi said as he looked at the tall man. "But at least this one is on our side."

Tsunade gave an annoyed groan. "I'll really need a drink this time."

Raiden also got out of the room, his cuffs removed and his staff back.

"Now, if I am cleared of suspicion, would you allow me to explain the situation in full?" Raiden asked. "And if you could, bring your greatest warriors along. This is something they need to hear."

They gathered in the Hokage's office, with everyone from the Leaf Twelve and their sensei gathered in the room as Tsunade sat in her desk.

"Very well, Raiden," she said gesturing to the man standing across her. "You may begin explaining."

Raiden gave her a nod. "As I said before, your world is about to be invaded. It has gained the eye from the tyrannical ruler of the realm of Outworld called Shao Kahn. He has decided that he would soon begin sending his forces here."

"So we're really being invaded by some tyrant from another dimension?" Ino asked, not really believing she actually uttered those words.

"And here I thought our lives couldn't get any crazier," Kiba asked as he scratched the ear of Akamaru.

"Who is this Shao Kahn?" Shikamaru asked.

"Shao Kahn was previously an advisor to a lord of Outworld before him, the Dragon King Onaga, but after killing him, Shao Kahn took the throne and began invading realms, merging them with Outworld," Raiden explained. "He has been conquering realms for thousands of years, constantly expanding his reach. Whatever battle you had not so long ago made him aware of your world, and he thought it worthy to add to Outworld."

These news did not bode well with the people in the room.

Choji then slumped his shoulders. "Oh, this is just great. We just finish one war, and we immediately have to fight another one," he said, voicing what everyone was thinking.

Naruto clenched his fist. He didn't really want another war to come so soon. The villages were finally feeling peace, the animosity they had between them practically non-existent now. And now this comes to ruin it.

"There is a chance that war may never come," Raiden said. "Shao Kahn cannot just invade a realm when he sees fit. The Elder Gods, my superiors, had certain rules in place so that he needed to win their conditions before invading. And those conditions are for him to win in a tournament called Mortal Kombat."

"A tournament?" Sasuke asked, his single arm on his blade.

"Yes," Raiden said. "The added condition is that Shao Kahn has to win the tournament ten times in a row before he has permission to invade."

Shikamaru raised an eyebrow. "Ten times?"

"Indeed. The tournament is held every fifty years, which gives the realm at least half a millennium to prepare. The champion of the tournament is then made immortal by the decree of the Elder Gods so he can participate in the next tournament."

The more Raiden talked the more baffled everyone was. They all saw some weird things, but this talk of Elder Gods, different dimensions, immortals, even they had to call that weird.

"So we have to keep winning this tournament so this Shao Kahn doesn't invade?" Sasuke asked.

"Normally that would be the case," Raiden said. "However, your circumstance is different. You see, we had no idea your realm existed, and once discovered Shao Kahn thought it he could access it easier, but the Elder Gods intervened. Since your realm is special, in a sense that it's not under the supervision of anyone from other realms, special terms were placed. The tournament will be held, but the conditions are different. Shao Kahn only has to win once to be able to invade your realm, however, if you win, then Shao Kahn will be forbidden to come to this world, forever."

"So we win this tournament and we're free from any more invasions?" Naruto asked hoping that would be the case.

Raiden nodded. "That is correct."

Somewhat of a relief washed over the group, having a chance at getting rid of yet another invasion but this time without heavy casualties of warfare.

"And how do we prepare for this tournament?" Tsunade asked.

"You will need to gather your best warriors and have them meet in a certain place where the tournament will be held." Raiden then looked towards the group of ninja. "If I may ask, which of you would be the most powerful?"

All of the eyes landed on Naruto and Sasuke, an easy answer for everyone here. Raiden then approached the two, with them looking up at him. "Yes, I can indeed sense that you are very powerful. What are your names?"

"Naruto Uzumaki."

"Sasuke Uchiha."

"Well, then, Naruto, Sasuke, I would like to test you two to see how you would fare in proper kombat. Will that be acceptable?" The two of them looked at each other for a moment before turning back to Raiden and nodding simultaneously. "Good. I will have to report back to the Elder Gods about this. I will return in two days so I can test you. And the rest of you make sure to bring your best warriors for the tournament. Until then."

Raiden then put his hand up before a sudden bolt of lightning struck him, and he disappeared, surprising almost everyone in the room.

"Man, what a drag," Shikamaru complained as he rubbed the back of his head.

"You all heard what lord Raiden said!" Rock Lee chimed in. "We'll need to prepare for another fight for our lives! We need to train harder for this tournament!"

Guy looked at his missing leg in shame as he sat on his wheelchair. He really wished he could help them.

Naruto still didn't like the idea of fighting a huge battle again so soon, but once again his hand was forced.

It would seem that fate just wasn't willing to give them a break.

AN: And that is it for now, my dear readers! Yes, we will have Naruto, Sasuke, and others participate in the Mortal Kombat tournament in the future. I don't think something like that has been done before so I hope I don't end up messing up.

Now, I'm sure some of you will look at this and say that I exaggerated Raiden's power, but for those of you unaware in the game lore Raiden is so powerful that in his MKT ending he shook the Earth to its very core in his fight with Shao Kahn, and when he was still a young god he almost destroyed the Earth in his battle with Shinnok. So yeah, he is pretty powerful.

I hope you ended up enjoying the chapter. And I implore you to check out my other stories, you won't regret it, trust me. And leave a review, they are great motivators.

See you next time!
