TAKEN CARE OF

AUTHOR'S NOTE/DISCLAIMER

Takes place near the end of the episode 'Closure' after Kim is visited in the hospital by Platt and Hailey so there will be spoilers. Resides in my 'Kim and the Callaghans' reality, but doesn't involve any of the Callaghans. Belongs to Dick Wolf and NBC. I only own the plot.

Kim's eyes flickered as the others walked out. They weren't telling her something, but what? What were they hiding from her? And why? That's what she had to find out. It didn't make sense. Her thoughts were interrupted when the door opened again. To her surprise, it was Hank Voight.

"Hey, Sarge," she greeted.

"Hey, how do you feel?" he queried.

"Okay I guess," she replied with a shrug. "No one will tell me anything. Did we get Roy?" she queried.

"Yeah, he was taken care of," the man responded. Kim nodded. 'Taken care of'. She wasn't stupid. She knew who Hank Voight was.

"You need anything from me?" she queried and he shook his head. Can't believe she just asked that, he thought. Wait, yes, he could. Kim had always trusted him, ever since she had started working for him almost eight years ago. In that time, he had seen her blossom from a young rookie who was afraid to make waves to an outstanding officer who would and had done anything to keep her teammates safe.

"Just to heal and work your way back to your little girl and the unit," he told her. "I know you're taking this hard. You did everything right. Okay?" She nodded.

"Okay, Sarge." Not gonna fight it, she thought to herself. Sergeant Voight had always taken care of her and she trusted him implicitly. She had ever since she had started at the 21st. Granted, at first, it had been because the Callaghans had known him and she only trusted them. Now though, the trust had deepened.

"Did Donnie and the boys come by?"

"Ryan briefly. Donnie hasn't been feeling that great lately. Ryan was ready to swear vengeance on the entire district of Chicago though."

"I need to talk to him?"

"No, he dialed it down after I mentioned that you were on the case. You know how he is."

"Yeah." Kim smiled. Glad to be in this unit, she thought to herself. She had a feeling that if she had joined another unit, she wouldn't have the family and friends she had now. And to be honest, she wouldn't change that for the world. "All right, I want you to get some rest, okay?"

"You got it, Sarge." Hank smiled and placed a gentle hand on her shoulder, resulting in a soft smile from the female officer as she placed a hand on his. Then, she watched as the man walked out. Roy was gone. She wouldn't have to worry about the asshole coming for her, Adam, or Makayla. She didn't know what Sergeant Voight had done and she didn't need to know, but she could definitely live with it.
