Mother Nature's Affair

Chapter 8: Distress

Ivy was currently sitting on a nearby couch.

We see Detective Montoya approaching with a cup of hot cocoa.

Montoya, "Bullock just whipped up a new batch of hot chocolate. Figured you'd like a cup."

Ivy, "thanks Renee."

Harley and Mark just walked up.

Harley, "I'm sure Derrick will find Rose. Don't worry Red."

Ivy, "thanks Harley."

Mark, "and I'm sure Batman won't stop until they find her."

Ivy smiled at Mark's kind words.

As Harley and Mark walked away, Ivy stared at her beverage, her thoughts wandering to what was gonna happen to her family….

….

Batman and Derrick had found two dead workers, and one alive that they got to Gordon and the other officers.

Whenever they encountered some of the tanks, Batman would use the Batmobile to take them down. Anytime it was just some thugs, Batman would fight them in hand to hand, while Derrick would use his gun to shoot them in the knees, incapacitating them.

Clover was always right behind Derrick, using their vines like a grappling hook to keep up with the duo.

They had just found the last worker in a room.

That's when several men entered, brandishing guns!

And their leader jumped down to stand before them.

The same armor, trench coat, and red helmet with glowing blue eyes and pointed ears on the sides.

The Arkham Knight.

The Red Hood.

Whatever you wanted to call him.

He started talking with that distorted voice.

The Knight, "keep your guns trained on them. If they even look like they're planning on leaving that room, open fire. Oh, and avoid the bat symbol. That's a little trick. That's where his armor's the strongest. Aim for the weak spots. The shoulders first, and then coordinate fire where the plates meet."

The worker begged, "please!"

The Knight, "you say something?"

Batman, "leave him out of this."

The Knight, "always defending the weak and helpless. That's what I like about you! Predictable! That's why we're gonna win. We know your move before you do. We know how you think!"

Batman, "do you know what I'm thinking now?"

The Knight, "you're probably thinking, 'who the Hell is this guy?'"

Derrick, "that's what I'm thinking. All we've got is two names, but nothing else."

The Knight, "I'm surprised you let a civilian help you with this? What, did you finally drive all of your friends away?"

Derrick, "I'm here to find my daughter you bastard."

The Knight, "daughter? Wha-"

Derrick, "my wife saw you take our baby girl!"

The Knight, "and who's your wife?"

Derrick, "Pamela Isley."

The Knight froze, and then said, "you're the dad?"

Derrick, "in the flesh."

The Knight, "look, my business is with the Bat, not you. Crane told me to take the kid. I'm just following orders. I could tell you where she is right now, but it would ruin our plans."

Derrick simply glared at the Knight as Batman said, "I'm not trying to figure out who you are. I'm just trying to figure out which of you I'm going to take out first."

The Knight, "just so we're on the same page, I fully, fully, intend to kill you. But first…. We're gonna make you suffer."

The Knight turned from them and began to speak into an earpiece of some kind.

The Knight, "just say the word, and I'll end this."

Batman put his hands behind his back and began fiddling with a controller in his glove. The turret on the Batmobile began to move and point at the unsuspecting militia troops.

Derrick smirked at the fact that the men couldn't see it.

Batman opened fire with the non-lethal rounds, taking down some of the men while the Knight used a rope to quickly make his escape.

Batman quickly did away with the remaining men, with Derrick shooting some of them in the knees to take them down.

Soon the men were down, and Batman had freed the final worker.

After getting them to safety, Batman and Derrick proceeded into the factory using the batmobile to find ScareCrow.

They could see his silhouette on the wall as they took down the guards surrounding the room he was in.

As Derrick knocked the last guard out with a nearby pipe, they heard Crane speaking.

Crane, "it appears that the flow of chemicals has ceased. Which can only mean one thing. The Batman is here."

Derrick and Batman nodded to one another as they entered the room.

They found Crane standing there, his back to them.

He slowly turned and said, "do you really think you've won? Fear makes you predictable. I am in complete control."

Crane put his hands behind his head.

Before Batman could rush at him, Derrick yelled, "where the Hell is my daughter?!"

Crane tilted his head, "you'll have to be specific."

Derrick, "my daughter Rose. You took her from Pamela Isley?!"

Crane chuckled as he said, "if you want your child back, you'll have to talk to the Knight. Only he knows where she is."

Derrick growled as he turned to Batman and said, "do it."

Batman grabbed Crane and smashed his face down into the control board.

Batman, "how do I shut it down?!"

Crane, "let me go, or she dies."

Batman held Crane in the air, "what are you talking about?!"

Crane, "Barbara Gordon."

Both Derrick and Batman grew wide eyes.

Batman quickly threw Crane down and activated his communicator.

As he tried to get in touch with Oracle, Derrick was punched by Crane, who quickly ran out of the room and locked the door behind him!

As Derrick and Batman ran to the door, Crane said, "it hurts, losing a member if the family, knowing you have no one to blame but yourself!"

Derrick, "where is my daughter you bastard!"

Crane, "ah yes, Ivy's little girl. If you want her, you'll have to talk with the Knight…."

And with that, Crane turned away and left the two of them locked in there.

Derrick, "what're we gonna do?!"

Batman said, "I'm going to try and reduce the blast radius, you try and contact someone!"

Derrick nodded as Batman ran over to the control panel.

Derrick was about to check his contacts, when he got a call from an unlisted number.

Derrick answered and said, "hello?"

And that's when he heard the Knights voice on the phone.

"You didn't hear this from me. I've nothing against you, so I'm going to tell you where your daughter is. Crane had me take her to Cobblepot, under the condition that she not be harmed in any way. If you were to somehow find him and save your little girl, Crane won't know. Best of luck."

Derrick was so surprised, it took him a second to see that the Knight had hung up.

And when Derrick turned around, he saw Batman suddenly collapse after switching three canisters.

Derrick, "Batman? Batman!"

Derrick knelt by the caped crusader as he slowly came to and got up, with Clover using some vines to help them up, and with the factory around them going to shit!

Batman seemed to be listening to something that wasn't there as he used his remote to control the Batmobile to rip the walls away for them!

Batman, Derrick and Clover quickly made their way into the Batmobile, and drove as fast as they could out of the place, and managed to get away from the factory right before it exploded!

As the car landed and skid away, it came to a stop, with Derrick, Batman and Clover getting out.

Derrick yelled, "great, just great! First Rose, now Barbara!"

Batman moved away to take a call as Derrick grabbed his phone.

He called Ivy.

Ivy, "Derrick, is that you?"

Derrick, "yeah honey, it's me."

Ivy, "what happened? Did you find Rose?"

Derrick, "no, but I'm getting closer. Some guy that works with Crane. He hates Batman, but claims to have no beef with me. He told me that CobblePot has her."

Ivy, "the Penguin?!"

Derrick, "honey, calm down. Me and Batman are coming back to the GCPD real quick, and then we're gonna try to find her."

Ivy, "okay, but please be careful. I can't lose either of you."

Derrick, "Ivy, I promise, no-one will stop me from saving my daughter, and getting us back to you. I love you Pam."

Ivy, "I love you too sweetie."

And with that, the call ended.

Derrick turned to Batman, who said, "we need to get back to the GCPD."

Derrick nodded as he said, "we've gotta tell Jim that Barbara has been captured."

Batman, "you know she's-"

Derrick, "relax Batman. I can keep that secret. That she's Oracle. Just be glad I don't know anything else about you. At least not for certain."

Batman nodded as he jumped into the Batmobile, with Derrick and Clover climbing into the back.

….

Later, we see them arrive back at the GCPD, where Gordon was at his car.

Gordon talked into a communicator and said, "I've gotta him Batman's here."

Gordon turned to him and said, "what's wrong?"

Batman, "Jim…."

Derrick had a worried look. He knew what was about to go down.

Jim, "c'mon, you're scaring me."

Batman, "it's Barbara. She's been taken."

Jim, "no, no, no. I spoke to her. She said She got out. She left hours ago!"

Batman, "stay calm. We'll get her back."

Jim, "which one? Who's got my little girl?!"

Batman, "scarecrow. They took her from the clock tower."

Derrick, "whoever took her, also took Rose."

Jim, "we got to go. There could be a clue. Something that could lead us to her!"

Batman, "I'll follow. Stay in contact."

As Batman walked back to the Batmobile, Derrick turned to the officers and said, "CobblePot has my daughter. I'd anyone gets word on him, or where Rose is, I wanna know!"

The other officers all nodded their heads.

And with that, Gordon jumped into his car as Derrick and Clover got back into the Batmobile.

As they drove to the clock tower, they ran into more of the militia troops, until they eventually had to put Gordon in the car next to Derrick for safety.

Eventually, they made it to the tower. Barman went up first via the roof, while Derrick, Gordon and Clover came in through the elevator.

When they got to the top, they found Batman picking up Barbara's wheelchair.

Jim, "oh God, no."

Jim managed to step onto a picture of him and his daughter that was on the floor.

Batman, "this isn't your fault Jim."

Derrick, "he's right."

Jim, "of course it is. Crane's done this to get to me. I should have been here."

Batman, "there's something I need to show you."

Jim, "we haven't got time! She's not like us!"

Derrick, "not to mention, Rose is being held by the Penguin."

Batman lofted the head of a bust and pressed a button. In a few moments, he was scanned, and before all of their eyes, the room changed to show a gigantic computer.

The computer said, "identity confirmed."

Batman, "she's strong Jim. Stronger than you realize."

Jim turned with an expression that was slowly changing to angry.

Jim, "she works for you?"

Derrick, "look, this is nobody's fault!"

Jim, "wrong! It's all his fault"

Batman, "we will find them."

Jim suddenly picked Batman, although you could tell it hurt his hand.

Jim, "she's my family! MY DAUGHTER! She's all I've got! I never should've trusted you! Never!"

Derrick, "they have my daughter too Jim! If we wanna find either of them, we have to work together!"

Jim threw his communicator to the ground.

Jim, "I'll do this on my own. Stay away from my family!"

Jim slammed the elevator door and went down.

Derrick had a somber expression as Barman sighed in pain.

Batman went over to the computer to continue their search, while Derrick occupied himself with thinking what they had to do next.

Derrick had to find CobblePot.

He had to!

Reviews:

Amanny: I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter.

Nathanael Card: sorry it's been so long since I last updated. I've been busy over the holidays, as well as helping write a new story. And working on several other stories.

….

And thus, Batman and Derrick are trying to rescue Rose and Barbara together.

Sorry if this chapter took awhile.

Also, I've been working on co-writing another Dragon Ball Z story.

Simply called; Dragon Ball Z: Retold.

It has quite a few differences from mine and the canon, such as Raditz x Bulma, the characters use the time chamber during two years waiting for the Saiyans, Krillin x Launch, Yajirobe is in the action more, Chi Chi trains with Piccolo and Gohan as Bulma trains with Raditz, and many other neat changes.

So that's the reason why I've been taking so long with this, and my other stories.
