Chapter 11: Asylum Restored
Three years later.
After all of the events on Halloween, things had begun to change in Gotham for the better.
The GCPD now ran as smooth as silk, with Mark now running the place as Police Commissioner.
Gordon had actually been elected as the next mayor of Gotham, keeping the city under better control, since he and anyone he appointed into power didn't accept bribes.
Harley and Mark had gotten married, and were raising their daughter; Lucy.
Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle had begun dating.
Tim Drake and Barbara Gordon had gotten married, and were hoping to have a child soon.
And as for Derrick?
Well, with funding from Wayne Enterprise's, Derrick was now the new head of staff and warden at the newly restored Arkham Asylum!
The place had been given the best tech and security money could buy.
Derrick had a hand picked staff, so there wouldn't be any corrupt workers.
Cash had been made the head of security.
Harleen Quinzel was one of the finest doctors at the place.
Ivy worked as the grounds keeper of the place, taking care of the plants and structure.
Gotham was continuously protected by Batman, Robin, Oracle, CatWoman, and the Red Hood, although he kept to himself all of the time.
Rose has begun to grow up, often having play dates with Lucy.
Things were looking up for Gotham.
….
We see the beginning of another day at Arkham Asylum.
We see Derrick in his office, looking over various files on the patients.
Derrick, "hmm, Harleen is making good progress with Harvey. If she can get his two personalities to calm down, and maybe with some plastic surgery, Harvey may very well be on the road to recovery."
Derrick got a knock at his door.
Derrick, "come in."
Cash walked in.
Derrick, "Cash! What are you doing here?"
Cash, "we got a situation."
Derrick, "what kind?"
Cash, "Croc. He refuses to talk to anyone. Except you."
Derrick, "why me?"
Cash, "you're the one who gave him a much nicer cell. No giant sewer. A large room with working plumbing, chicken for lunch, and even TV."
Derrick, "if we treat our patients like monsters, they'll act like monsters. Treating Waylon like he's normal is the first step. Give me a few minutes. Get him to the psychiatric ward, so I can begin a session with him."
Cash nodded and left the room.
As Derrick was getting up, he got a text from Selina, who was babysitting Rose and Lucy.
"Let me know when you can pick up Rose. I've got some plans for tonight."
Derrick replied, "I'll get her at around seven. Don't worry."
Soon, Derrick was off towards Crocs room.
When he got there, Croc was simply sitting in a chair, with two guards pointing their guns at him, and electric handcuffs on him.
Derrick, "you can leave us gentlemen."
Guard 1, "uh, sir, are you sure that's wise?"
Derrick, "I want to be left alone with the patient."
The guards nodded.
Guard 2, "we'll be monitoring the whole thing."
When the guards left, Derrick and Croc were quiet for a few moments.
Derrick, "unlock handcuffs."
"Voice authorization confirmed."
Croc looked at Derrick confused as the cuffs fell to the ground.
Croc, "you're not afraid I'm gonna bite your head off?"
Derrick, "if you were going to, you would be done so already. That, and I know you don't wanna risk the guards killing you. And besides, you asked for me."
Croc nodded.
Derrick, "so, Waylon, what would you like to talk about?"
Croc, "what does it matter. I've been through this shit numerous times. And it's never any different."
Derrick, "what do you mean? What do you have against the world?"
Croc, "it's not that! The world has a problem with me! People take one look at me and go, 'AH! HELP! RUN! A BIG, STUPID, UGLY MONSTER!' They judge me before they even know me."
Derrick, "everyone knows who you are Waylon. And many treat you like a monster, because you try to act like one."
Croc, "what do you mean?"
Derrick, "you've eaten people Croc. Most deserved it, but still. You see your form as a curse. If you gave someone a chance, maybe they would treat you like a person if they got to know you."
Croc, "you've seen how much my form has mutated. I'm more of a crocodile than a man now."
Derrick, "you know our sponsor, Wayne Enterprises, is studying your condition, in hopes of forming a cure."
Croc, "I don't know how much longer I can wait."
Derrick nodded before saying, "I have to go check on something real quick. Someone will bring you your lunch here in a minute."
Croc nodded as Derrick left the large man to stew over his emotions.
A minute later, a woman entered the room very carefully, her head pointed down, holding a tray with a bucket of fried chicken, an apple and a large bottle of water.
She had bright red hair in a ponytail, and wore some green scrubs, indicating she was an assistant to the doctors.
She placed the rest right in front of him, but she showed no sign of fear.
Croc, "what's the matter? Aren't you scared of me?"
The woman looked up, and Croc was shocked by what he saw.
She was blind.
She spoke in a soothing voice, "I'm afraid I can't see what I should be afraid of."
Croc, "you know who I am?"
She nodded, "Mister Waylon Jones. I've heard about you on the news."
Croc, "and you're not scared of me?"
She said, "from what I've heard, you've had a very tough life Mr. Jones. Your appearance doesn't matter to me. Noones does. Because I'm blind, personality is what I care about the most."
Croc actually smiled at her words.
Croc, "thanks. Miss, uh…."
The woman, "Donna. Donna Chambers. It's very nice to meet you Mr. Jones."
Croc, "just, uh, just call me Waylon."
Donna nodded her head, smiling at the large man.
Derrick was outside, smiling at the display.
He had planned on Donna meeting Waylon.
In a few minutes, Derrick would return to check on them….
….
Several hours later.
Derrick and Ivy had arrived home with Rose.
Rose was now able to walk, or toddle, around the room, babbling. The only word she could croak out is the word, "no."
She would say no, even when she meant yes.
The couple couldn't help but smile as they watched Clover and Rose run to one another, Rose picking up her dog and petting him.
It was hard to believe that Rose was around three now, approaching four.
As the two of them went to get dressed into their casual clothes, Ivy said, "hey, Derrick?"
Derrick, "yes?"
Ivy, "I've got something to ask you later tonight."
Derrick, "sure. Now, how about we get started on making dinner?"
Ivy, "that sounds lovely."
Derrick and Ivy went on to start making dinner. Steak and eggs, with a side salad for each of them.
Dinner went by as normal as usual.
After Rose is put to bed, we see Derrick and Ivy sit down on the couch together.
Derrick, "so, what is it that you wanted to ask?"
Ivy was silent for a moment, and whispered something.
Derrick, "what?"
Ivy, "I want…."
Derrick, "want what?"
Ivy, "... I want to have another baby."
Derrick was stunned for a moment.
Derrick, "come again?"
Ivy, "I want to have another baby. I want to give Rose a sibling."
Derrick, "Pam, are you sure?"
Ivy, "I'm more sure than I've ever been."
Derrick was silent for a moment before smiling and said, "alright then. L-let's have another kid."
Icy smiled as she and Derrick embraced.
Derrick, "I love you so much honey."
Ivy, "I love you too sweetie."
….
Later that night.
We see Derrick staring up at the ceiling as he held Ivy, who was curled up next to him.
He slowly rubbed her stomach, anticipating the future. He hoped that Ivy had gotten pregnant that night. If she was, Derrick was eager to add a new member to the family.
He had some names picked out. If it was another girl, he would name them Lily. If they were a boy, he liked the name Solomon.
Derrick would have to wait and see….
….
A few days later.
Derrick was once again at work.
He was walking through the hall, looking at the intensive treatment wars at their most dangerous patients.
Jervis Tetch, aka; the Mad Hatter.
Lazlo Valentin, aka; Professor Pyg.
Edward Nigma, aka; The Riddler.
Alexis Kaye, aka; Punchline.
Garfield Lynns, aka; Firefly.
Victor Zsas.
Julian Gregory Day, aka; Calendar Man.
Hell, they even found that Clayface was still alive, and was being treated for his condition, seeing if there was any kind of cure.
Croc was currently in the visitor center with Donna.
Harvey was in a session with Harley.
Derrick had recently found where Victor Fries and his wife had gone. Derrick had made a special wing solely for Freeze to work. With limited time, Wayne Enterprises had given a good chunk of resources to Victor in hopes of finally curing his wife, and maybe Victor as well.
Other criminals such as Deathstroke, Simon Stagg and Penguin were put into Blackgate, since they weren't insane, merely dangerous.
The last cell at the end, Derrick stopped at.
Sitting in a huddled mess was Crane. He was angling with the mask still on. His claw and outfit had been confiscated, and burned, since Crane wasn't ever going to be let out after what happened years ago.
Derrick, "it's a pity your skills in science and psychology weren't used for good John. The things you could have done. Gone to waste."
Crane couldn't even seem to understand what Derrick was saying as he rocked on the floor.
Only one word could be heard among his insane rambles and mumbled.
"Bat."
Derrick shook his head as he walked away back to his office.
….
Meanwhile, at the GCPD.
Mark was looking over reports from his officers.
Bullock, Montoya, Owens, etc.
Mark had made Gordon proud as the new chief of police, his officers receiving the proper training to deal with the crazy things Gotham often saw.
As Mark finished looking over the reports, he got a text. He turned his phone on, showing a picture of Lucy, who looks just like Harley, but with green eyes, thankfully the only thing she got from her father.
Mark smiled as he unlocked his phone and read a message from Harley.
Harley, "I'm gonna be at work a little longer tonight. Just order pizza for you and Lucy for dinner."
Mark smiled as he sent back, "will do. See you later sweetie."
Mark put his phone down and went to get a snack from the break room.
….
Once again, Derrick came home with Rose.
Ivy had gotten home about an hour prior, since she got her work done early.
When they went into the living room, Ivy immediately sat up from the couch.
Ivy, "Derrick, Rose, I've got wonderful news!"
Derrick, "what?"
Ivy, "I'm pregnant!"
Rose, "yay!"
Derrick and Ivy looked at Rose in surprise.
Derrick, "Rose just said another word!"
Derrick and Ivy picked up their daughter and spun around together, with Clover circling them.
Their family was soon going to get much bigger.

That, and Derrick is supposed to be a character that brings out the best in a lot of people, so it wouldn't make sense for him to be hiding anything.

A three year time skip, so all of the changes would be more believable.
I decided to give Croc a love interest, since I've given Harley and, of course, Ivy, love interests.
Ivy is pregnant again! And Rose is taking more!
Sorry it took so long to get this chapter up. I've been busy a LOT lately.
I currently have a poll to see who certain characters end up with in my Teen Titans story.
Titans: Elemental.
It follows the 2003 cartoon, but it's set in the Bruce Timm DCAU, (this is the elusive Bruce Timm DCAU story I talked about doing so many times in the past), Robin is Nightwing in the story, Raven is with an OC, Blackfire actually joins the team as a hero, Slade's daughter Rose gets brought in after the episode with Thunder and Lightning, and a few other changes. The poll is to decide who Karen, Blackfire and Rose will be with. The choices for who these three ladies will end up with are Aqualad, Red X and another OC.
