Chapter 12: Family

Two months later.

We see Derrick driving his family in their car.

He was using his ear-phone to talk to Harley.

Derrick, "how is our newest patient doing?"

Harley, "well, Solomon, oops, I mean, Cyrus Gold, is coming along well. We're slowly getting him to see himself as human, rather than a monster brought back from the dead. He's even started speaking to Mary very kindly, y'know, that nurse with the pale skin and hair?"

Derrick, "right. Glad to see he's doing alright."

Harley, "also, Harvey should soon be ready to receive plastic surgery. He's close to being just one personality again."

Derrick, "great to hear. Talk to you later Harleen."

Harley, "you too Derrick."

And with that, Derrick and his family arrived at their destination.

Derrick was the first to get out and moved to the other side of the car.

Derrick helped Ivy out of the car; since she was starting to develop her baby belly. They were there to see Derrick's aunt and uncle, Kyra and Mac.

Derrick had been excited for them to meet his wife and child.

Ivy, "are you sure they won't go crazy when they see us?"

Derrick, "of course. We live in Gotham City, where clowns are found more often than escorts."

Ivy couldn't help but snicker as she watched Derrick get Rose out of her car seat, and Clover jumped out and began sniffing around the yard.

Derrick held Rose's hand as he helped Ivy waddle towards the door.

Clover walked behind all of them.

Derrick knocked on the door, and after a few moments, it opened to reveal an older woman with greying brown hair in a pink shirt and blue pants.

This was Derrick's aunt, Kyra.

Kyra, "Derrick?"

Derrick, "hey Aunt Kyra."

Kyra smiled as she hugged her nephew, with a warm smile upon her face.

Kyra then saw Ivy, Rose and Clover.

Kyra, "well, you must be my nephew's family."

Ivy nodded and said, "hello. I'm Pamela. It's very nice to meet you."

Kyra, "oh, it's such a pleasure. Oh! And is this my grand niece?!"

Derrick, "yep. Rose, say hello to your great aunt Kyra."

Rose waved and said, "hello!"

Kyra smiled as she picked up her grand niece.

Kyra, "you are so adorable! Come on in, all of you."

The family followed Kyra inside.

Inside of the living room was an older man who looked like Derrick, except he was larger and had a big beard. His uncle Mac.

Mac, "Derrick!"

Mac got up and went to hug his nephew.

Derrick, "it's great to see you Uncle Mac."

Mac, "same here. Now, where's this family of yours?"

Derrick gestured to his family and said, "Uncle Mac, meet my wife, Pamela, our daughter, Rose, and our dog, Clover."

Mac, "it's nice to meet all of you. Oh! I see you have another child on the way?"

Ivy, "yes. Our little angel."

Mac, "know what gender it is yet?"

Ivy, "well, uh-"

Derrick, "Ivy wants to wait until they're born. Keep it a surprise."

Mac, "ha! Just like your parents. Now come on, everyone sit down. I wanna hear more about you all."

Everyone sat down, with Derrick helping Ivy sit down slowly.

Ivy, "thank you sweety."

Derrick, "no problem honey."

Mac, "so, how have things been in Gotham?"

Kyra sat next to her husband as Derrick spoke.

Derrick, "things have been going well. Crime has gone down since we reopened the Asylum. We've managed to reform several of Gotham's more infamous criminals. Oh, and we're expecting our next child."

Ivy, "we're waiting until they're born to know what gender the baby is."

Mac, "heh. Just like Derrick's parents."

Kyra, "hehe, that's what I said."

The rest of the visit went by rather smoothly. Ivy got along with Mac and Kyra very well. And the aunt and uncle absolutely adored Rose.

It warmed Derrick's heart to see everyone like this.

Mac was like a gentle giant towards Rose. Giving her a piggyback ride around the house. And Kyra seemed to really enjoy giving Clover belly rubs.

They all talked about various subjects over the course of the visit. Work, cooking skills, stuff about Rose and the baby, etc. It was a very lovely time for all of them.

A few hours later, our family finished their visit, said goodbye to Kyra and Mac, and headed back home, eager to plan another visit in the future.

….

Several months later.

Derrick was pacing in the waiting room of a hospital. And why was that? Well, because Ivy had gone into labor!

Yep, she was finally ready to have their second child.

And Derrick was beyond worried.

Harley was driving to the hospital with Rose, excited for her best friend to have another baby.

Derrick seemed to lose track of time as he waited for anyone to tell him what was going on with his wife and child. He just kept pacing until he felt himself get pulled into a chair. He didn't even notice that Harley and Rose had arrived.

Harley, "Derrick, calm down. Red is gonna be fine. Her and your kid."

Derrick, "you don't know that. What if something goes wrong? What if Ivy gets hurt? What if the baby gets hurt? What if-"

Harley, "Derrick, get a hold of yourself. They are going to be fine. Ivy is the toughest girl I know. Of course she'll be fine. And if your next kid is anything like Rose, they'll be a fighter."

Derrick felt himself smiling at Harley's kind words.

Derrick, "thanks Harleen."

Harley, "eh, what're friends for?"

Rose hugged her father, in hopes of calling him down. It seemed to work as he rubbed her head in thanks.

Derrick managed to calm down, and roughly thirty minutes later, a nurse approached them all.

The nurse, "Derrick Shane?"

Derrick stood up and asked, "how are they?"

The nurse, "your wife has finished giving birth. She and the baby are perfectly fine. You may see them now."

Derrick was quick on his feet as he made it to Ivy's room. He opened the door as calmly as he could, and saw his beloved wife in the bed, holding a blue bundle of blankets in her arms. She looked exhausted, but happier than she had ever been before.

The blue blankets indicated that the baby was a boy!

Derrick made his way over, and Ivy smiled at him with tears in her eyes. Tears of joy. She showed the baby in the blankets. The boy had his father's skin tone, and dark green hair, a trait he must've gotten from Ivy's plant DNA.

Derrick, "oh Pam. He's perfect."

Ivy, "he is. Our little Solomon. I can only imagine how protective Rose is going to be over her little brother."

Derrick, "you can say that again. You wanna let Harley and Rose in?"

Ivy nodded as she continued to cradle her bundle of joy. She was glad she had been able to give birth in a hospital this time, and not a grungy city full of criminals.

Soon, Derrick returned with Harley and Rose. Harley couldn't stop fawning over the little newborn. Derrick soon got to hold his son. With Rose next to him, he looked at Solomon as they opened their eyes. They were the same blue as his. Derrick teared up as Solomon smiled at his father, as if he already knew who he was, and was overjoyed to see him.

Rose, "daddy? Can I hold Solly for a minute?"

Well, Rose had already given her brother a nickname.

Derrick, "sure. I'll help you."

Derrick helped Rose hold her baby brother. As Rose gazed down at Solomon, he gazed right back before laying his head on her chest, making a little noise of joy.

Rose smiled as she thought, 'I'll protect you. Every day. My little brother.'

Derrick stayed with Ivy and Solomon that night while Harley agreed to take Rose home and watch her until they returned.

The next day, The happy couple and their newborn were cleared to leave, and arrived back home.

Harley and Rose were happy to see them back.

Ivy had plopped down in bed, still tired from giving birth.

Derrick began making lunch at noon as Rose played with her brother, with Clover curled up next to them.

Rose was using her own powers to make some vines dance before her brother, making him giggle with glee at the sight. Rose utterly loved making her little brother happy. His smile and giggle were something she would strive to hear as often as possible.

But as she continued to entertain him, Solomon made a scrunched up face, and began to cry. Rose was confused until she smelled something awful. She got closer to Solomon, and the smell was coming from him.

Rose, "daddy. Solly went number two."

Derrick came in and picked Solomon up and said, "aw, did you have an accident. Come on, let's get you changed."

Derrick went to the bathroom and changed his son's diaper as Rose waited on the couch.

In a few minutes, Solomon was back on the couch, and Rose had gone back to doing tricks with the vines. Minutes later, Derrick gave everyone lunch as Ivy awoke from her nap. Ivy breastfed Solomon as Rose ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Derrick himself ate a cheese and turkey sandwich, and after finishing feeding her son, Ivy ate a ham and cheese sandwich. The rest of the day went by very smoothly as the family settled their newest addition in.

That night, the kids were put to bed. Rose would be sharing a room with her baby brother.

She fell asleep that night with a smile on her face, looking at her brother as he slept peacefully in his crib across the room from her.

Derrick and Ivy fell asleep in each other's arms that night.

The family was in a state of peace, love and joy as they all fell asleep, their family nodded and happier.

Nathaniel Card: I'm glad you liked these choices. I'm sorry it's taking forever to get a new chapter of Ben 10 Alternate Alien out. I've had a lot of work to do, and I recently had a terrible cold, and I've had other stories I've been working on.

I'm sorry it's been so long since I've last updated this story. I got really sick, (not covid, thank God, just a cold), and I've been working hard on finishing a bunch of chapters for future stories.

And thus we get to meet Derrick's aunt and uncle, who finally meet Ivy and Rose, and we also get the birth of Solomon, Derrick and Ivy's son.

I hope you guys like Kyra and Mac. I tried to make them very likeable.

A retelling of the entire series, but with Ben x CharmCaster, (she won't be a villain, so most of her episodes will be changed heavily or skipped), Looma x Attea, Cooper x Ester, Gwen x Kevin, we'll see more of characters like Xylene and Technorg, some episodes will skipped or changed heavily from what actually happened, with most of the skipped episodes being from Omniverse, my OC- Lumi will once again be introduced and their will be a slightly darker tone among the many changes.
