Prologue
A/N: This story has been in some kind of state of being worked on for nearly a year. I came to the Arrowverse from Chicago Med and Doctor Who. Upon starting to read fanfic, I noticed that there was not a lot of fanfic for my favorite character, so I took it upon myself to write a story for him. Upon learning his eventual fate, I knew I would have to correct that. Italics are thoughts. The story takes place on Earth 626. If you want to know more about said Earth, I have a little blurb up on the site. Looking forward to seeing what you all think! SSD
Think of Earth 626 as Earth 1 with a few differences.
Summer 2007, Starling City Docks
"Are you sure you don't want to come along Erika? It'll be fun," her older brother asked as the last of the supplies were loaded on board the yacht.
Turning towards him she replied, "Ollie, I'd be puking from seasickness before the Queen's Gambit left the harbor."
"You wouldn't even last that long. You'll start upchucking even with the ship on the dock," an unwelcome voice snickered.
Turning around, Erika growled, "Fuck you Merlyn."
"Only with your help," her blue-eyed tormenter leered.
"Only in your lonely, pathetic dreams," Erika replied with flashing eyes.
Before either could get any more creative with their insults her father asked, "Try not to murder each other while we are gone?" The animosity between her and Tommy was as legendary as his close friendship with her brother Oliver. There was no middle ground with them.
The other reason she was not coming along was that she was a werewolf. Over the course of the intended trek there would be a full moon. The only person on board the ship that was aware of her "furry little problem" as it was called on Harry Potter, was her father. Her step-mother was also aware. Neither of her siblings were aware at the moment.
And she would likely keep it that way for some time to come.
Erika watched as The Queen's Gambit cast off. She could not help but have the feeling of foreboding that she would not be seeing her father or brother again. It had nothing to do with her dislike of water in general.
Thoughts of a stormy ocean were set aside for continuing the snarking aimed at Tommy. As much as he was a pain in the ass, he gave as good as he got. Which few people could manage.
###
In the months since the sinking of the yacht, Erika had thrown herself into her studies at UNLV as a way to cope. The only people she had really socialized with since returning to college were her friends Amira and Jason, along with her werewolf mentor Darius.
Without them, she surely would have lost her mind. She had come to relish the full moons. For a night, she would become mindless to her pain. Her wolf was more than willing to take control. Amira and Jason were werewolves as well, which helped to keep her in line.
Darius however had said that he expected her to start taking more control over her wolf at the full moons. While more than sympathetic to her situation, he knew she was more than capable of doing that.
Zooming around on my motorcycle is also a good distraction, Erika thought as she weaved around the cars as she made her way to her off campus apartment. She did not like having roommates, Miyuki had been better than she could hope for, as most roommates would have started to ask questions about her odd hours, especially in the leadup to the full moon. Miyuki came from a family that was "read in" so to speak when it came to the Children of the Night.
Once she arrived at her place, she spied a familiar looking car. As she parked, Erika got a good look at the license plate.
What in the name of sanity is Tommy doing here? I'm not up for handling him right now!
Though in the last several months, Tommy had been exceedingly nice to her, with minimal snarking. She didn't know what to do about that. Good partners for snarking were hard to find.
An elevator ride later, she heard him call out, "I know it's a bit late, but happy birthday." He was using that megawatt smile of his, that even she had a hard time ignoring.
"It's been my birthday?"
"Halloween was two days ago. You have one of the easiest birthdays in the world to remember," he replied as she turned the key to get into the apartment.
"I've had other things on my mind, especially given the fact that I had tests in three of my classes," Erika answered as she peeled her coat off. It was getting a bit nippy at night in Las Vegas now that it was apparently November. After hanging it up, she asked, "Not to be rude, but I am surprised that you're here."
"You're 21 now. I know for a fact that Oliver said he'd take you out on the town once you were legal. I'm here to take you out in his place, to introduce you to all of what this city has to offer," Tommy said with a crooked grin on his face.
###
Erika's eyes were boring into him. Those jade green eyes had always felt like they were assessing your soul. And Tommy knew that most of the time, he came up more than a bit short. He remembered all of the times she had told both he and Oliver that they were idiots. Those were the times Erika was being polite. He especially had been called much worse things by her. Especially after the incident with her school uniform. That one had ended with their parents being called in when she retaliated.
Then there were the times where she joined in on their antics. Like the time he filled the pool with beer. Erika had not consumed any, she had just helped them figure out the logistics. When she did get involved, she usually got away with it, because no one thought that the "quiet one" would do such a thing. Erika always helped clean up in those cases.
"You know what, I think you're right. I could use some time to relax. I've more than earned it. I've done so much extra credit, I could probably turn in a blank final exam and still get an A in at least three of my classes," Erika smiled before continuing with "Let me go get dressed."
Another thing that Tommy found to be good about Erika, was that, unlike other girls, she did not take an ungodly amount of time to get ready to go out. Most of the time anyway.
Sure enough, about five minutes later, she was coming out of her room. Erika was wearing boots, a good pair of jeans, and a long-sleeved green shirt that made her eyes pop.
"Ladies first Princess," Tommy said with an exaggerated bow. His reply was an eye roll and a muttered "nerf herder", but she headed out the door anyway.

Darius Campbell, formerly of King Henry V's army at Agincourt, turned by a pissed off Gascon werewolf, known as Al Dhiyb Almutajawil in the League of Assassins, he was currently keeping up his current job as a Professor of Myths and Legends at UNLV, where his student in both academics and other skills, Erika Queen was studying cryptozoology. Her degree would help keep werewolves and the other Children of the Night as myths and out of the eye of the general population.
Right now, he hoped she was taking a break. She'd more than earned it and whatever she got up to it would be a well-deserved amount of fun. The moon wasn't for another week.
He was on his way out when his cellphone rang. It wasn't a number he recognized, but he recognized the area code. It was for the area around Starling City.
"Hello?"
"This is Professor Campbell, right?" Darius knew the voice. It was one of Oliver's friends, Tommy.
"Yes, how did you get this number?" He was getting into his car.
"Got it off Erika's phone. Listen, I took her out for her 21st like Ollie had promised, and she's had a lot to drink," the kid sounded nervous, but sober.
"Define a lot kid," Darius replied.
"We've had to leave three bars. I don't know how she's still walking straight," Tommy replied.
"She's got a fast metabolism. Has she been eating at least?"
"Yes, I've made sure of that. She's already acting weird for her. Look I'm used to women flirting with me, but with Erika, that's not normal behavior!"
"No, it is not. She's complained about you a lot in the past. You can get her back to her place, right?"
"Yes. I haven't touched anything tonight. Had a feeling Erika would try to drown her feelings in alcohol."
"Okay kid. See you there."
Erika, I hope you aren't as drunk as I think you are!

Tommy was lounging in the living room, flicking through the channels, as the sun climbed higher. By the time he'd finally convinced Erika it was time to head back to her apartment, they'd gotten to a fourth bar called No Man's Land. That was where she truly got plastered. She had seemed to know most of the patrons there in some variety. He definitely wasn't going to envy her when she woke up.
However, that did not mean that he wasn't going to mess with her a little. Tommy figured she'd throw some things at him.
He heard Professor Campbell shout, "WAKEY, WAKEY!" It was followed by cursing in what sounded like an East Asian language and something being thrown. Minutes later, Erika staggered out the bedroom door, looking like death warmed over.
Upon noticing him, she asked with narrowed eyes, "What happened last night?"
"You drank more than I thought possible for a girl your size, and still be able to walk. I know a lot of people, myself included that would do just about anything for that metabolism of yours," Tommy replied.
"It isn't always what it's cracked up to be," Erika groaned before asking again, "Did anything else happen?"
Tommy knew what she was asking, but really could not help himself, she's gonna have my head for this, before saying "It was a magical night, I never knew you could move like that. Guess all that jiujitsu can be used for plenty of things," waggling his eyes.
Erika had a dangerous look in her eyes, as she stalked towards him like an angry wolf. Before she could do anything, he replied, "Relax Erika. Nothing happened. Call me old fashioned, but I prefer not to have sex with women who are unconscious."
That stopped her cold. "Unconscious?" Erika blurted.
"You drank so much, we got asked to leave from four different bars. Including that last one you suggested. You ran up one hell of a bar tab," Tommy answered. Darius tossed her a bottle of Fruit Punch Gatorade.
"Guess I had a little too much fun in Sin City," Erika said before drinking it down.
"You can't have too much fun here," Tommy replied, grinning at the memories of prior visits.
"Knowing you and Ollie, you two definitely had too much fun," Erika replied with a snicker.
###
Tommy and Erika were having a normal conversation.
Somewhere, Hell must be freezing over, Darius thought as he watched the pair just talk. It was a highly unusual event.
If he told them what he knew, both would laugh at him. But what he knew was no laughing matter.
###
5 years later…
Erika couldn't believe it as she got off the phone with Moira. Her brother was alive.
She would be getting on the soonest available flight from New Orleans to Starling City. Even if it had to be the redeye flight.
