NOBARA KNEW THAT her parents were married–still married. They just didn't live together. They never lived together. Every winter, Nobara would stay with her mother and her grandmother. The rest of the year, she would be home with her father and her family.
Moscow, Russia. The beautiful and dangerous city where she was born, raised, and cared for. Nobara remembers as if it was yesterday, the exceptionally large expanse of her home, the old, yet beautiful, architecture of the Voronin Estate, the lavish decorations inside and out, the wonderful ballet lessons, the balls, the parties, the dances, the personal lessons her father gave her... Oh, it was wonderful, if a bit boring.
Then, that one winter. That winter where Nobara's hatred for her mother truly cemented into her life. The winter where her mother cut all contact off from the Voronin Family, hiding in a godforsaken village where Nobara was either ignored or ostracized for being different. Nobara would rather kill herself than go back to that village, if it didn't kill her first. To think her mother expected her to keep her surname when she took her away from all that she loved.
Nobara would have given anything, anything to leave that place for good. Fortunately, her grandmother, a long since retired and forgotten jujutsu sorcerer, had taken her in and gave her a chance to take back her freedom; she must become a jujutsu sorcerer. She took the chance without a second thought or a moment's hesitation.
She wants to go home. She wants perform for her father again. She wants to run in the vast lands of her estate. She wants to go shopping in the wonderful, and busy, and dangerous markets of Moscow again. She wants to be called Maria again. She wants to smell the wonderful air of her home. The smell of freshly baked bread that always seems to waft from the kitchens. The smell of cigar smoke when her father smoked one every afternoon. The smell of burning when another Voronin finally has added a new piece to the art on their skin.
Japan wasn't all that bad though. It had its own beauty and Nobara grew to love the country as her second home. At least, the parts of Japan that her mother wasn't currently living in. It was the other part of her, the other half of her family, no matter how much she disdained her mother. Which is why, Nobara decides to stay in Japan until she finishes her schooling and meets Saori again, like she promised.
"Papa, you'll see me again soon," Nobara thinks with a soft smile, overlooking the overcrowded marketplace of Harajuku. "Saori-chan, I've made it to Tokyo."
She makes her way down the steps, tightly gripping the strap of her shopping bags. She gives a small murmur of apology when she runs into someone before she stands in the center of the marketplace. Nobara hums quietly and looks around with wide eyes filled with awe.
"Eheh miss, can you stop for just a moment? You see, I'm looking for many beautiful faces like yours to send to the big screens like these. I'm from a model agency..." Nobara watches a pudgy old man clearly try and scam an annoyed looking young woman. A smirk appears on her face and she slowly saunters up behind the man.
"...rested. Excuse me, I'm very busy." The woman easily slips away from the creepy old man. Nobara places a hand on her hip and waits for the man to turn around. She couldn't resist to mess around with the man.
He turns around with a heavy sigh. He stops and looks up at Nobara in slight shock, not expecting her to be there.
"Eh, sorry. Excuse me," The old man says awkwardly and quickly walks around the ginger haired teenager. Nobara's eyebrow twitches before she grabs the back of the creepy man's collar.
"Ah! No you don't." The man tries and fails to escape her grip on his shirt collar, making Nobara turn him around. "What about me?"
"Seriously?! I'll pummel this guy to the ground!" Nobara growls internally at the slightly disgusted and awkward expression the man gives her.
"Eheh... sorry, but I'm looking for women from here. And women who are a bit... smaller," The creepy man says politely.
Nobara scowls and lifts him up higher. "What the hell? Are you calling me fat?"
The man tries to run away, but Nobara doesn't let go. She lifts him higher and gives him a scathing glare.
"I'm from Japan too, idiot. If you're gonna scam people, you might want to include everyone!" Nobara scolds loudly.
"I'm sorry! Please let me go!" Nobara rolls her eyes with a scoff.
"Hey! Over here!" A voice calls out to Nobara. She looks up and sees an incredibly tall man with white hair, pale skin, and a blindfold covering his eyes waving at her.
"Damn, what's with the blindfold?" Nobara asks loudly, her nose scrunching up. Weirdo.
Nobara turns and releases the man from her grip, making him fall on his ass. "You're creepy."
The ginger haired teenager turns on her heel and saunters away from the heavily relieved man. She narrows her eyes at the three in front of her before scoffing.
"Does Obāchan honestly expect me to put my life in the hands of these idiots?" Nobara glances around with a small frown. She spots the ¥400 Corner and heads over without another word. She quickly places all of her things inside and slams the door closed, locking it up.
"Okay! Once again!" The white haired man, Gojo Satoru, states with a wave towards Nobara. The ginger haired teenager places a hand on her hip and gives the three males a narrowed gaze.
"Nobara." She purses her lips. "Be happy boys. I'm the one woman in your group."
She stares at her two classmates with narrowed eyes. The one with pink hair, tan skin, and gold eyes points to himself with a bright smile.
"I'm Itadori Yūji! I'm from Sendai," He introduces himself brightly. Nobara makes a small noise before focusing her narrowed stare on the other boy.
"Fushiguro Megumi," The black haired teenager states plainly. Nobara makes a small noise in annoyance and narrows her eyes even more. She tilts her head and leans closer.
"Some second-rate emo and a country bumpkin. Tch. I always get stuck with unfortunate circumstances," Nobara speaks to herself in disappointment.
"She took one look and sighed," Yūji says quietly with furrowed eyebrows.
Megumi turns towards their teacher. "Are we going somewhere from here?"
"We do have all three of you together," Satoru chuckles out, making Nobara focus on him. "Not to mention, two of you are from the countryside. So, of course we're going on a tour of Tokyo."
"Tokyo! Tokyo! Tokyo! We love Tokyo!" Yūji and Nobara cheer at the same time. Yūji jumps up and gives Satoru a big hug while Nobara jumps up and down.
"TDL! I want to go to TDL!" Nobara couldn't help the excitement burst from her control. She may have lived in a city for a good portion of her life, but Tokyo was an entire different world.
"Idiot! TDL's in Chiba!" Yūji exclaims excitedly, doing a weird pose. "Let's go to Chinatown, Sensei!"
"Chinatown's in Yokohama!"
Yūji faces Nobara and they have a glare off. "Yokohama's part of Tokyo! Don't you know that? Look at a map!"
"The hell?! Quit spouting nonsense!"
"I will now announce our destination," Satoru states dramatically. Yūji and Nobara kneel to one knee while Megumi stares at them both with an irritated look.
"Roppongi!"
"Roppongi?!" Yūji and Nobara repeat, staring at each other with excitement.
"Gojo-sensei's lying... but there might be a chance we'll pass through..." Nobara thinks while glancing at the grinning white haired man. She narrows her eyes before sighing.
"Papa... I'll be sure to take as many pictures as I can... I want to show you the part of my life you couldn't be a part of..." Nobara smiles in determination as they all start walking towards their destination. Thank God her phone is fully charged.
"Papa, Papa! Where are we?" Five year old Nobara asks brightly, tugging on her father's jacket. Voronin Nikolay Kirillovich adjusts Nobara on his hip with a smile.
"Paris, France. You said you wanted to go, yes?" Nikolay answers, making Nobara gasp in delight.
"Paris, Paris? Are we gonna see the tower? I wanna go see the tower!" Nobara moves her legs in her excitement as stars practically form around her.
Nikolay smiles and shakes his head, eyes filled with guilt and longing. "I cannot go today with you. I have a very important meeting."
The dark haired girl wilts at the information, her smile faltering. Tears appear in her eyes before she furiously wipes them away with a scowl.
"But I... I wanna... I wanna go with you..." Nobara sniffs and turns her head. She doesn't want to her father to see her cry. Nikolay sighs softly and gently lifts his daughter's head.
"Masha, I may not be able to go, but I still want you to enjoy yourself. Anna will be going with you as you explore the city," Nikolay says softly. Nobara turns her head again with a pout.
"I wanna go with you! I don't see you anymore. I miss you..." Nobara trails off angrily. Nikolay smiles softly and leans forward, giving her a kiss on her temple.
"How about this?" Nikolay takes out one of his phones and hands it to Nobara. "Take as many pictures as you want. Take as many as you can and when we go out for dinner, show me your adventures. Tell me what happens through the pictures."
Nobara stares down at the phone, still pouting. She sighs and looks up at her father with teary eyes.
"It's not the same," She states in Japanese. Nikolay shakes his head with a smile.
"No Masha, it's not the same. But, when you go and see the world without me, you'll need some pictures to tell the stories you'll make, no?" Nikolay taps Nobara's nose, making her giggle. She covers her nose with her hand and smiles.
"...okay. But, you better stay awake! For every story I tell!" Nobara exclaims brightly.
Nikolay laughs and nods his head. "I promise, Masha. Now, let's go explore before I have to leave you to Anna."
Hey! Hope you all like the new story!
So, I know it starts out... weird(?). I don't really want to change the entire way Nobara meets the others since it wouldn't be helpful. Things have changed obviously, and I will change most interactions.
Also, I seriously have no fucking idea how I made this story. I just–I got Russian Mob vibes from Nobara somehow and it deteriorated into this...
I hope you all like the chapter! The next chapter will most definitely pick up, I had a lot of trouble trying to start this fic and this chapter is as good as I got. Bye!
