A heavy sigh, and the phrase babies having babies, was something I heard all to often in the eighties and nineties. In the eyes of the church if you have sex before your married, you're a sinner. To those truly devoted to Catholicism using birth control of any type goes against God, hence the phrase go forth multiply and be fruitful. Growing up in my middle class neighborhood , in a family of fairly devout and fairly dysfunctional Roman Catholics I saw many examples of go forth multiply and be fruitful.

There were several families in my neighborhood (I'm thinking of three particular families) that had really taken this to heart. Their good Irish Catholic up bringing brought fourth 9, 11 & 13 children(respectively), go forth multiply and be fruitful. According to the church if you refused to have more children you were a Bad Catholic, and if you used birth control you were evil (From the Fruuuits of the Devilll) and should be excommunicated from the church.

I read these stories in the papers about schools wanting to put condoms in the bathrooms at school. Gasp heaven forbid our children shouldn't be able to go forth multiply and be fruitful, but if they do they're Sinners and didn't have enough faith and will in God to control their Hormones. If you think will is going to keep a teenagers hormones in check

take a box of laxatives and see how long will keeps you from taking a S*T in your pants. If the child gets HIV or Aids they're paying for their evilness and having the morals of a goat. Go forth multiply and be fruitful. BAH

I know I'm a little behind the times on this rant, and I really don't know if it makes any sense at all. Maybe I'm just sick of people making comments that aren't willing to be a part of the solution. I don't have all the answers. I'm not a counselor(Nor do I play one on TV)or advisor of any sort. I could sit here and spout numbers and statistics etc Ad Nausea. I just think that we could spend our energies a little more constructively, instead of ragging, blaming and finger pointing.

Hmmm then again maybe I'm channeling Andy Rooney……Pissing and moaning again.
